Unless you were born somewhere between late 80s to early 90s and played this game as a young child then you would not know the power this ending has to make one cry
It really shows that the journey was always the best part, and never the destination. Honestly looking back at when I played through this game when I was 5, and witnessing this, it still lives to be the BEST ending to a video game to date.

Tomorrow is my first day of college and although I am excited, I knew I had to play this one last time. It's a great way to say goodbye to my childhood. But I sure as hell am going to miss it.
I will never forget the countless hours of my youth playing this game to get to that point. Then the disappointment of a cake and "thank ya so much for playing my game" it was well worth it though one of the greatest game ever

It just seems like a magical, accomplished moment to me, like I'm so happy to see her, for it's THE Peach! Man, she and zelda would've looked GREAT in Smash Bros. 64...

If you pause at 5:32 it's a relatively clear shot, but he's visible from 5:31 when the shot widens till 5:34 when the shot cuts from the castle and to the cake.
This was the first game i got for nintendo when i turned 7 in 1998 i played it all the time but i never beat it but a few months ago i found it in my basement and started playing and with a broken analog stick i finally beat the game. i recorded it on my phone and i felt so fulfilled. it only took about 10 years to beat.

When I was like 11, this game was THE SHIT!!!! I played it religiously everyday and FINALLY beat it a month later. Thank God memory cards were invented then. But, when I beat it, I was like, "gosh, who woulda thought Peach would be in the stained glass? YOu were like looking at her the whole frickin time! If I were Mario, I'd be like, "get yourself kidnapped one more time, and your givin' me somethin' more than just a cake"... even if it does look lip-smackin good...
