friends were "concerned" when I chose Marketing as a degree. I knew exactly what I was doing when I chose it and living in Los Angeles it made sense to me. fast forward 4 years and I graduate and I send my resume to all movie company productions and even theme park companies. I interviewed with companies like Universal to Disneyland. I ended up taking a position a few months later with the Warner Bros marketing division. Now I work on promoting their movie/TV releases, it's related products, and go to Hollywood functions. I personally don't care about the functions, but its a good distraction once in awhile if I feel like going. now everyone thinks I have an awesome job and chose a good major.... go figure.
I have changed my major so many times. I changed from computer science to anthropology to the health field like dentistry to nursing to finance to CIS to economics and now I’m in marketing and I feel like this is what I was meant to do the whole time. Not everyone leaves high school knowing what they want to do. Not everyone’s path is traditional or linear. I have always been very analytical but I have a creative side that I’ve been told to suppress by my family so I’ve been wondering around the general ed classes trying to pick what I’m going to do for the rest of my life. I finally landed on a major that I’m confident I will want to keep learning in and I would be happy putting in the overtime hours for. I’m excited for the job prospects marketing offers, and I plan on also getting coding certificates to see where that will take me.
I as well changed my major from Computer science to math to industrial engineering and finally, I chose marketing. Even though I am a bit behind the schedule, I'm over the moon to start my second semester which is going to be my first class in the marketing field. Thanks for sharing your journey with us, such an insprtiaonal story to share.
As someone who studied marketing and is going into a marketing role full time after graduation, I can definitely say that a career in marketing is SO versatile! Definitely keep pursuing your passions and things that you genuinely enjoy, because at the end of the day you are creating the legacy for your life and not others. I’m thinking switching to marketing, I feel like the environment is my cup of tea and seems interesting. I’m so shy do u have to present a lot in college? that’s one of my worries. 1000% agree about going with the major you actually want to pursue. I ended up changing my major so many times and I still ended up in the major I had originally wanted to study. I should've just followed my first mind, though I don't regret the classes I've taken so far! I always think it's easier to create a career out of something you love than try to create love for a major/career you have no interest in.
@@444fawn I’m not sure! I just transferred into it so I don’t have that much experience tbh. My friends in psych really like it though and find it interesting! I would say if you’re unsure try to take classes that could count towards both in your first semester since there’s sometimes overlap between the two majors in terms of classes. Or you could major in one and take a class or two in the other as an elective. But honestly don’t stress too much about it, even if you change your major you’ll probably still be able to graduate on time and have a good experience!!!!
I changed my career three times during my 20’s. I wish I had someone telling me like “hey try to look for a mayor you feel comfortable with, and not what other people say you need to study” Sometimes you have to hit your head yourself many times to figure out what you really want, and that’s ok, it’s your life, and you decide wha to do with it. I'm a social worker and when I told people what I was majoring in, I always heard "You know you won't make any money in that right?" As if that was the most important thing ever. I ignored the comments, followed my gut, and now I have been a licensed social worker for 5 years and am able to support myself without problem. So anyone who is reading this, always follow your gut and your passions!

The concept of not knowing your major when being in university seems so strange to me as I am from Europe and we HAVE to choose a program and if you get accepted, you will study the program you've chosen. No options to choose something different in the middle of the studies...well there is the option of dropping out and starting all over again but most of the people will continue studying the program/major even if they don't particularly like it just because they don't want to start from the very beginning again. Btw. I am also marketing and management major, I'm doing my master's :) Goog luck to you all.
Thats true unless your degree is similar to another degree if that makes sense. Like I know someone who after their first year of children’s nursing switched to midwifery. But yeah for the most part you wouldn’t really be able to switch course unless you start from the beginning.
That sounds so much worse than it is in America. I already feel a lot of pressure here to find out what I want to do but the good thing is, there's always the possibility of changing jobs or career advancement.
@@aftoncrain2042 I’m going to specify that I do live in Scotland (and even tho I technically do not belong in the EU a lot of university and college policies are still the same throughout Europe.) In Scotland, university and college are two different things but if you don’t know what you want to do it is recommended to go to college. A lot of people fall through the trap of thinking university is the only way to go and end up going straight to university to start a 3, 4 or sometimes a 5 year course. This means that if you don’t like your degree your studying after two years or whatever you’re kind of screwed with your options. However, college courses are “split up” if that makes sense, so instead of doing one four year course, you can do four one year courses. Now what does this do? College courses can get you into university (if that is where you want to do) and usually your college course doesn’t need to directly relate to the uni course. For example, HNC social sciences can still get you into nursing. So even though you’re studying two different things, because college gives you the basic knowledge it is not as intense as university and much easier two swap career choices.
@@aftoncrain2042 Even though I get where you’re coming from, I actually agree with how the UK and Europe don’t allow you to fully swap degrees. I mean, if you go and study English for 2 years and then switch to History you are missing out on A LOT of information.

what you talked about is so relevant to the concerns i had going into college!! i wanted to go in as an elementary education major but then i received so much judgment... "teachers make no money" "you'll end up hating kids" "teachers hate their jobs" etc etc... i let those judgments that strangers, my friends, and my family were telling me to influence me :/ i ended up going in as a psychology major / premed track because i was focused on money because i let everyone make me feel like i needed to go to college for something that'll be 'worth it'. i am currently in my first semester of my third year of college. i transferred schools and changed my major to elementary education. i am so much more happier and feel so much more fulfilled and satisfied with what i'm learning. people have told me that i seem so much happier in this major (some of which are the same people who told me NOT to do elementary ed!!). it's amazing that you've been so vocal about feeling out of place in your major and your college because it's so REAL!! so many people go through this and feel shamed or embarrassed for having to change their majors or transfer schools and they SHOULDN'T. it's nice to see you so happy hannah 💗

For the past 5 years I've been wanting to study Architecture because I'm a creative person and I love drawing. However, now that I'm a senior in high school I've changed my mind and I want to major in Marketing. @@jayayyy2878 Not dumb at all. You don't know if you don't ask, and you are getting a good head start. :) Accounting is very broad. So far, I have taken the basic accounting courses, computer courses, and finance. Statistics and other general business courses are next for me. I am very happy with it! There is so much opportunity in the field, and it's much more than just doing taxes (although that is something that I am personally interested in). When you get to college, I highly suggest taking advantage of every opportunity to explore the major, such as career centers or seminars. I hope I answered your question somewhat. Don't stress about it too much, because it is okay and very normal to be unsure. Best of luck!
Yes!! I ‘m a senior in undergrad too and I changed my major from Political Science to International Relations to Criminal Justice until eventually settling (AND ADORING) English Literature! If I could tell freshmen anything, it would be expect to change your major/minor at least once!

You definitely made the right decision! What you're doing with your YT channel IS marketing, so you're already getting all of that real world experience. Marketing touches every aspect of a business from strategy to creative and financial (personally, I always loved the strategy). I have my MBA in Marketing (and Finance) and did brand management for many years. My advice would be work for a few years and explore different areas of marketing. MBAs are expensive, programs usually want a few years of work experience, and you may not even need an MBA given what you're doing with RUclips, etc.💕

What I love the most about this video is just from the way you speak and your expressions we can feel the passion and love you have for your major. I have so many friends who absolutely hate their majors because they went with whatever other people told them was the right choice and it just sounds painful. I’m a business education teacher for 5-12th graders. I teach things from keyboarding to accounting to marketing to HR. I absolutely love it.

The concept of not knowing your major when being in university seems so strange to me as I am from Europe and we HAVE to choose a program and if you get accepted, you will study the program you've chosen. No options to choose something different in the middle of the studies...well there is the option of dropping out and starting all over again but most of the people will continue studying the program/major even if they don't particularly like it just because they don't want to start from the very beginning again.
Btw. I am also marketing and management major, I'm doing my master's :) Goog luck to you all.
Thats true unless your degree is similar to another degree if that makes sense. Like I know someone who after their first year of children’s nursing switched to midwifery. But yeah for the most part you wouldn’t really be able to switch course unless you start from the beginning.
That sounds so much worse than it is in America. I already feel a lot of pressure here to find out what I want to do but the good thing is, there's always the possibility of changing jobs or career advancement.
@@aftoncrain2042 I’m going to specify that I do live in Scotland (and even tho I technically do not belong in the EU a lot of university and college policies are still the same throughout Europe.) In Scotland, university and college are two different things but if you don’t know what you want to do it is recommended to go to college. A lot of people fall through the trap of thinking university is the only way to go and end up going straight to university to start a 3, 4 or sometimes a 5 year course. This means that if you don’t like your degree your studying after two years or whatever you’re kind of screwed with your options. However, college courses are “split up” if that makes sense, so instead of doing one four year course, you can do four one year courses. Now what does this do? College courses can get you into university (if that is where you want to do) and usually your college course doesn’t need to directly relate to the uni course. For example, HNC social sciences can still get you into nursing. So even though you’re studying two different things, because college gives you the basic knowledge it is not as intense as university and much easier two swap career choices.
@@aftoncrain2042 Even though I get where you’re coming from, I actually agree with how the UK and Europe don’t allow you to fully swap degrees. I mean, if you go and study English for 2 years and then switch to History you are missing out on A LOT of information.

But I agree with you, I believe although it sounds harsh that we can't change the major, it is a good thing. As a junior music major, I’ve heard so much negativity towards my major, and let me just say: choose a major you love. Don’t listen to the negative people. Like Hannah said, you will find a way to make your career path work if you love it!

what you talked about is so relevant to the concerns i had going into college!! i wanted to go in as an elementary education major but then i received so much judgment... "teachers make no money" "you'll end up hating kids" "teachers hate their jobs" etc etc... i let those judgments that strangers, my friends, and my family were telling me to influence me :/ i ended up going in as a psychology major / premed track because i was focused on money because i let everyone make me feel like i needed to go to college for something that'll be 'worth it'.
i am currently in my first semester of my third year of college. i transferred schools and changed my major to elementary education. i am so much more happier and feel so much more fulfilled and satisfied with what i'm learning. people have told me that i seem so much happier in this major (some of which are the same people who told me NOT to do elementary ed!!).
it's amazing that you've been so vocal about feeling out of place in your major and your college because it's so REAL!! so many people go through this and feel shamed or embarrassed for having to change their majors or transfer schools and they SHOULDN'T.

For the past 5 years I've been wanting to study Architecture because I'm a creative person and I love drawing. However, now that I'm a senior in high school I've changed my mind and I want to major in Marketing. It's a huge change for me but like you said if you really love it you'll find a way to be successful and the only thing I know is that I really really love it! Thanks for the video!! As an accounting major, I can relate so much to this. I went to a university, switched majors a total of 4 times, transferred back home, & here I am in accounting. :) I love my business classes, but I don't feel tied down because there is SO MUCH you can do in the school of business! @@jayayyy2878 Not dumb at all. You don't know if you don't ask, and you are getting a good head start. :) Accounting is very broad. So far, I have taken the basic accounting courses, computer courses, and finance. Statistics and other general business courses are next for me. I am very happy with it! There is so much opportunity in the field, and it's much more than just doing taxes (although that is something that I am personally interested in). When you get to college, I highly suggest taking advantage of every opportunity to explore the major, such as career centers or seminars. I hope I answered your question somewhat. Don't stress about it too much, because it is okay and very normal to be unsure. Best of luck!

Yes!! I ‘m a senior in undergrad too and I changed my major from Political Science to International Relations to Criminal Justice until eventually settling (AND ADORING) English Literature! If I could tell freshmen anything, it would be expect to change your major/minor at least once!

I would give anything to go back and choose it from the start, I was also influenced by people saying its useless and a waste of time. this hit so hard for me, my whole life I grew up wanting to go into interior design/architectural design & construction management and my dad never supported it and said I wouldn’t make money or find a job bc it’s not popular, so I took a year off going to a school I hated taking random classes and working towards entrance to nursing school bc I thought that’s what I needed to do and what people would be impressed by, but I was so unhappy and unfulfilled and now I’m at my dream school working towards a degree in Interior Design and I’m so happy, I wish they taught us more in high school it’s okay to struggle with finding what you want to do and not going to college right after hs... we all have different paths ♡

You definitely made the right decision! What you're doing with your YT channel IS marketing, so you're already getting all of that real world experience. Marketing touches every aspect of a business from strategy to creative and financial (personally, I always loved the strategy). I have my MBA in Marketing (and Finance) and did brand management for many years. My advice would be work for a few years and explore different areas of marketing. MBAs are expensive, programs usually want a few years of work experience, and you may not even need an MBA given what you're doing with RUclips, etc.💕

What I love the most about this video is just from the way you speak and your expressions we can feel the passion and love you have for your major. I have so many friends who absolutely hate their majors because they went with whatever other people told them was the right choice and it just sounds painful. I can't imagine having to spend years studying something you have no passion for and then spending more doing a job you hate.
