Chuck Berry is sixty (60) here, but he has the moves and attitude of a 25-yr-old kid!
Must have been all that farting and pissing on prostitutes
Like a good dad encouraging his children, oh Chuck. Legend of Legends
Guitars are on fire...but let's take time to appreciate whoever's boogie-woogie-ing the keys in the background is 🎹
Johnny Johnson is Chuck's original pianist, he played on all the original Chess stuff, he was great, he was half that sound. Willie Dixon played a lot of the original upright bass parts that Joey Spampinato is a master of recreating on his Danelectro bass and SVT. Fred Below played a lot of the Chess drum parts for Chuck, Steve Jordan is perfect for this. Keith got all the best players to play Chuck's music, the ones who understood it and could play it.
Johnny Johnson DADDY
@@G8GT364CI Thanks!!
@@G8GT364CI Yup, Keith pulled Johnon out of retirement (he was driving a bus if I remember). Barry thought anyone could play to him becuase HE was the act.
It's great to see Chuck in a happy mood with his mates and disciples. He had many disappointments in life. He wasn't and angel , but he brought joy to millions.

I love chuck Berry as much as the next guy, but I hope he’s rotting in hell for the shit he did
Thanks Guys. 🎶 Long Live Rock 🎶
Thank you Chuck Berry for giving us the greatest genre in the history of this world!! You are the real " king ' of rock & roll; "If you were to give rock & roll a different name, you might call it Chuck Berry" ------John Lennon
I saw John actually say that about Chuck Berry LOL on stage
No argument from me...

Really.pmsl.
Keith sho nuff did capture..... a bit more than Eric. Still all were great.
@@stevenbaker9871 You should get yourself a pair of incontinence pants then.
You want to say Chuck...
All I see is a bunch of people who love music to death having a lot of fun. I don't see any forced chemistry or bullying. Chuck looks like he's having a lot of fun and is in a different place mentally - as in, playing with people with a good energy takes him to another place, like something hiding in him suddenly opens up and brightens up the whole room. Now he may have been a hardass, but he was just trying to get the best out of everyone.
Exactly. Highly intelligent complex, alpha male without a doubt. And i dig his vibe
Hmmm I kinda see the awkwardness of wondering what Chuck is up to .....
These musicians respect one another and just enjoying jamming together, making wonderful music.
Chuck Berry is the true king of rock and roll.
Eric Clapton is so good
I'll second that!!
I'm so glad I got to see this video. Anyone who has the pleasure of viewing this should be grateful. Long live the greats of our time.
Something this special belongs in a national library or something. This clip cannot be lost, and I don't me just a few internet strangers saving hard copies, this must be properly preserved.
I hope there will be people among future generations who will appreciate pure bliss of rock'n'roll jam sessions like this. Studio versions are never that energetic 🎸🔥
When you get Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards, together. you can bet it's going to be one hell of a time I guarantee it.
I once saw Jerry Lee Levis, Little Richard and Chuck Berry live in one night. That was even cooler
Chuck is like a proud papa with his children. And Keith & Eric are nothing if not his babies
Everything sounds great here, we all know the guitar heros but the drumming and the organ sounds gnarly too!

Clapton is coasting. Such a master.
Overrated He's Flat No Improve or Energy

Come on, Chuck Berry wasn't exactly the, most innocent of people either, was he ?
Keep politics and music separate
If you like it, great if you don't, don't listen. Simple as that.
@@zenithslocos he’s not bringing politics into it. He just stating that Clapton is overrated and a average guitar player.
@@njshire6317 nobody can mix a major scale into the minor pentatonic like Clapton does. And the feel in his solos.
This is really a fascinating dynamic. You can tell by the looks on the faces of Clapton & Richards that although they might be happy to be there, they are both trying their best
to not piss of Chuck Berry, because know how volatile a person he is. It's almost like they are literally walking on eggshells, they just want to make their hero happy.

Clapton is a killer rhythm player he, Chuck Berry having a grand ole time.
Held it together after Keith got angry. Steve Jordan being a bit provocative and Chuck being Chuck.
Was at Chucks house. Met everyone! So cool!
Chuck Berry respected Eric Clapton big time. even though he was legend in his own right.
Keith once said "I argued more with Chuck Berry than I have with Mick Jagger!". Also I love Chuck's tone, kinda round sounding and a bit pokey too.
The TONE is because of the GIBSON, those guitars all have it...just got to know how to get it out of them...Berry knew how too ! Never saw Chuck Berry play anything but a Gibson ES model, 335's, 350T's and the one here, a real beauty... ES-355. Those pearl in-lays are the TITS !
it sounds like he’s playing through a 3 inch speaker
@@bluzzedude2677 True. I've seen him walk off stage in the middle of shows and leave because he didn't like the way someone was playing. That's because he wouldn't tour with or pay for a backing band but expected one to show up to back him at shows. He didn't give a shit about fans or other musicians. He respected no one and it's well known he stole his style from T-Bone Walker and most of his riffs and song ideas from his piano player Johnni Johnson ( Johnny B Goode ) and who later sued him for song credits and royalties.
Berry was good for his 15 minutes. Keith Richards and others kept his music alive for decades when it would have been long gone. Not to mention he was an arrogant, abusive S.O.B.
@@paulcolbourne9112 Berry said on many occasions that big band orchestras led by whites such as the more famous like Benny Goodman & Glen Miller were a huge influence on both he & Johnson. Those guys would get arrested in the towns they played in back in the day. They were the outlaws of their time.
I know a promoter who booked Chuck Berry for a show. While Chuck Berry really did innovate rock and roll and should be given an immense amount of credit, he was a rotten bastard to ANYONE he talked too. He would book gigs with an insane contract rider that included nothing but him showing up with his guitar on X date and X time, to play this show. His contract was written almost that it couldn't be met and it would be defacto breach of contract and he would be paid a larger sum of money. Long story short: he showed, complained, wanted nothing but boutique gear to be waiting for him, wanted a backing band to be waiting for him, and will not play with a setlist. *Everyone has to be ready for Chuck. Period.*
Chuck Berry is so happy with the STONES playin his heart out, thanks Keef y'all did so good.
chuck berry, the true king of rock and roll. there will never ever be another like him.
what a blast... Chuck fanning the Keith flame is a priceless moment. Gotta love that Steve Jordan taking his jacket off while kicking the ending. That jacket could not have waited one more second. What a band. Who ever picked Joey was inspired. Joey Spampinato and Bill WYman are the swingest bass players ever.

Understand you I do not
I was only 16 years old. It was 1992. I heard about a local free concert coming to a municipal park near my house. Some kind of 50's night type of thing. There were a few bands including Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, but the headliner was one Chuck Berry. Even only being 16 and kind of a musical noob, I knew who Chuck Berry was. Every guitar play that I worshipped at the time, from Angus Young, to Slash to Clapton cited Chuck as a reference. After the Mitch Ryder set, I left my lawn chair at the back of the lawn section and made my way to the stage. Front and center, chest against the stage. Chuck Berry came out and rocked our world for a solid hour. I had the pleasure of being 5 feet from him through the whole event. The duck walks, all of it. It was pure magic. I really still didn't realize until years later what Chuck Berry actually meant to rock n roll music. I never saw my lawn chair again, but I did see some damn good rock and roll that night! I have seen many legends since, but that one will always stick out in my mind. Thank you Mr. Berry for your influence, and for the memories. Rock In Peace.
This is insane, first time seen. Enjoyed it so much!
This is rehearsals leading up to Chuck's 60th birthday concert. The clip is from the documenttary "Hail! Hail! Rock & Roll".
Great performances by Etta James, Linda Ronstadt and Julian Lennon amongst other greats. A must have DVD for all lovers of music.
Oh wow, then he died 30 years later after this at 90 years old
Saw that documentary, it was awesome
oh mannn.... 3 of the greatest guitarist ever, playing and jamin all together!!!!
The wildest ride Keef was on was trying to corral Chuck at 60! Dang you Robbie R! You wrote it!
I like that Keith was adamant that the original piano player, Jimmy Johnson, was invited to play in the jam session along with Eric Clapton.....It's hard to imagine that Chuck was born in the same year as my 94 year old mom, who was in her 80s when this was recorded.
That's JOHNNY Johnson, and he was the piano player on ALL of Chuck Berry's big recordings back in the day. He continued to play with Chuck off and on until he passed away in 2005.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Johnson_(musician)
JOHNNIE JOHNSON!! NOT JIMMY!! I don't know why he's not in title too, he should be but this is great stuff.
Johnnie Johnson for the win! Killin' it. Honorable mention goes to Clapton's first solo.
It(Clapton's solo) sounds like Chuck is singing
Clapton shouldn't have even been there. He seemed miserable the entire time.
I have listened to this jam many times, I think I am going to turn it into a daily habit. 🎸🎸🎸🎹🥁🎧🎵🎼🎶
D'excellents musiciens réunis pour faire la musique qu'on aime, un grand merci !
Eric Clapton has been sober for so long you can clearly tell in this clip that he's faded and not exactly "present" (and still playing better than 99% of the guitarists on the planet). Big ups to the old man for sticking around.
This is great.... you have the father of Rock and Roll Chuck Berry....not to mention Eric Clapton " god" ....and the legendary Keith Richards....and this is a great jam session that just sounds too good to end. And I think they could easily have played this for 20 minutes and no one would become tired of it. Great session.
