CANNING JARS COMPARISON- testing & comparing Aussie Mason Jars and Ball Mason Jars

- Over a decade ago we purchased our Ball mason jars in Australia via Aussie Mason. These have been great quality and have lasted us years. But due to a recent mishap and gifting over the years, we needed some new jars. So I recently bought some more Ball mason jars and also for the first time Aussie Mason jars too. This is the follow-up video to that one where I took you along with me to the Aussie Mason warehouse in Carrum, Victoria, Australia to pick up my jar order.
In this share I compare the Aussie Mason Jars with the Ball Mason Jars. In the comparison of the canning jars, I do two different recipes. One with a 25 minute canning time (Ball beef pot roast canning) and one with a much longer 1.5hr canning time (beef stock canning).
I also compare the jars side by side and make some interesting observations on the dimensions of the canning jars and volume.
This should be a helpful watch for anyone looking for canning jars in Australia. And in particular mason jars in Australia/ Australian mason jars.
We have held off on using any yet, so I can check the seals are holding well. And so far everything is great and all seals are holding tight. We are very pleased with all the jars and lids so far 😀
This is great. I keep watching and will get brave enough 1 day to start canning. Your videos are so informative and I am trying to learn. Thanks so much Rachel ❤❤❤
So lovely to hear they are proving helpful to you and I do hope you build up that confidence to give it a go. It is a great skill. 💖
Thank you. Great to know there's a good alternative to the ball jars. I will try them out for sure.
I have been continuing to check the seals and they are all looking great. Like you, we are happy to find a cheaper and more accessible alternative.
Good Morning :) Thankyou for sharing it was a great video , I love my Aussie Mason jars and have been buying them for years we normally wait till a sale comes up , I just bought some more about 2 months ago , I will say tho I really dislike their lids , there thin and will rust much sooner then the Ball mason lids , this is why I never use them for anything other then dry goods , you may want to put those to the front , We have a great supply of both Aussie and Ball so no one favourite , I have also have just as many Fowlers so well and truly covered :) , your meals look great .
Thanks for the tip on the lids. It's great for both us and others reading through the comments to hear some further info shared with a longer experience.
@@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus your very welcome , I do hope you don't mind when I add my thoughts but Ive lost some really good meals because of bad lids and it can be heart breaking , I also think its great we can share the good and the bad so that others can learn :)
@kerry1963qld I absolutely love the sharing and appreciate it 💕

Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed week.
You too, and thanks for watching Pat! ✨️
Great video , thankyou 🙏🏻
Thanks for watching 😊
Nice video, I'm still collecting store bought jars as they work out ok and are as good as free. Making orange, rhubarb jam today as I saw a recipe on another channel. You use the whole orange, skin and all so I hope it tastes nice.
That recipe sounds yummy Christa! Hope it turns out as great as it sounds.
I also have use both brands of mason jars and have not had a problem with either of them , when I worked in a commercial kitchen we always roasted the bones for our stock , even roasted the veggies as well .
Roasting really takes it up a notch, doesn't it 😋 Thanks for sharing your experience with the jars. It is good to hear from someone has used them over a length of time Sylvia.
Are you thinking of doing a trial of whether the lids are interchangeable?
I've got quite a few of the old Ball jars that need new lids. It would be excellent if you don't have to worry which lid goes where.
Nice video.
I will definitely try interchanging the lids, as I did get a box of lids too.
After you completed your canning, do they need to be refrigerated?
The great thing about canning is that we can store these on the shelf. If you are interested to know more about canning, this intro video is a good one covering canning basics.

Oh I want to try the Aussie jars. How do I order them to be shipped here in the states?
I can't say for sure if the sell to the US or not, but this is where we got them from

quart and a liter?
best to pull the pot off the stove rather than tip the insides to hit the lid before it's had a chance to cool down and seal. typically, they ping once they start to cool.
and leave space between the jars so that all sides cool equally, not all bunched up together.
Yup Ball ones are a quart and the Aussie ones a litre. Happy to get that bit extra in the Aussie Mason ones 😀
Typically we do our canning outside on the biogas burner, so we don't need to tip them to the side. Agree it isn't ideal. Unfortunately most of our inside kitchen has shelves above, so nowhere to drag it to.
