The Ents are perhaps the saddest and most angry of all the free peoples. However even with all they endured even when the dam broke and they began their last march even then they were not hasty in their persuit and treebeard had a lot to do with all of that. His song was indeed the song of fangorn.

One of my favorite characters in the entire legendarium. The entwives disappearing makes me cry every time I get to it in the books. Thank you for the video!
I think Tom Bombadil must be _much_ older than Treebeard. Tom was there before the first drop of rain or the first acorn fell. He was there before Melkor came to Arda (which would make him older, in one sense, than the Ainur). Treebeard was old, but not older than that.
One theory that I've heard, tho I don't recall which YT channel, is that Tom is the literal representation of the song of creation itself, which is why he wasn't affected (effected? English is weird) by the One Ring
Hi 😀 I think Tom says he was there before Melkor descendes from outside to Arda, I understand this to be the instance when Melkor left the void beyond Earth to attack the two lamps 🤔 He was not the Dark Lord yet when he entered Ea (which is the universe that contains Arda) and some of the wording between Tom's account and the description of Melkor's attack is similar. Anyway, I agree that Tom should be older than Fangorn, as it seems that Tom saw the first plants grow. But it may be that they spent the same amount of time in Middle-Earth, as this continent was formed after Melkor's assault I mentioned earlier.
"We have just agreed...................................................................you are not orcs." The very spirit of the forest, and all that grows. If anyone ever stands besides a giant redwood you'll think of Treebeard and know what it's like to be near something so old and strong and long-lived ❤ I really hope he found the Entwives, or at least found out what happened to them🥺
Thinking of the Entwives makes me really sad. I like to think that they took up refuge and hid in the Shire, which is why the shire is so lush and prosperous. I like to think the Ents were reunited with the Enteives.
Yavanna's Onodrim served a crucial role in Middle Earth and much is owed to them, both before and after the War of the Ring, and to Treebeard above all. It is sad that the over time their numbers continued to wane to the point the Fourth Age was their last, the world is a sadder place without them.
It's on my wishlist that a Tolkien- loving author would write some other stories. One of them would be that Ents eventually get together with the Entwives.
I recall seeing or hearing somewhere that folks wondered if Tom Bombadil and Treebeard weren’t two aspects of the same being. Regardless, I’m sure a conversation between them would’ve been interesting indeed.
Great video as always yoysten love to learn more about middle earth I have learnt 10 times more knowledge from this channel than I have reading all the books
I like to think that Merry and Pippin met Treebeard one last time, when they left their holdings and positions in the Shire and retired to Minas Tirith. Surely they would have taken the opportunity to seek him out, and for Treebeard, hardly any time would have passed since he saw them after the fall of Sauron.
I wonder about the Ents that didn't make it to the Entmoot. Perhaps the journey was too far. Say the Blue mtns or forest east or north around Rhun. How many still wander Middle earth in the Fourth age?
Often when I walk my dog Strider (white Warg) in my forested back lot and free the young trees from their bent snowy traps I feel like Treebeard. then when I harvest the older trees for firewood I hope that Treebeard or any other Ents are not present.
Thanks for this video, hearing about the various aspects of Middle Earth gives me a peaceful feeling much like the books do. I think you made a minor mistake: The Ents decided NOT to enter the war during their council. It was when they perceived what Saruman had done to the forest that they responded with their fury.
Thanks for the support Steve! In the movie, that is how it happened, with them deciding not to go to war, but in the book, their deliberations during the council took them to the decision that Saruman should be opposed. They already knew the extent of his devastation to their forest.
It was actually really clever to change the "Old Willow" encounter from happening in the Old Forest in "The Fellowship" to happening in Fangorn in "The Two Towers" and therefore changing Tom Bombadil to Treebeard being the one to save them. This way Peter Jackson was able to keep the entire encounter without having to introduce beloved yet distracting Tom Bombadil. Even tho I personally would have kept the Barrow Whites sequence and only give a hint to what or who might have saved the 3 Hobbits. I faint "and his boots are yeloooww" in the distance or something
The Old Forrest and the Old Man Willow. I know that he is more Huorn than Ent, still a connection. It's not the Tom Bombadil Forrest. If you haven't already, will you do a spotlight on the Old Forrest please.

He came, I think to Fangorn ultimately because the Numenoreans used the Great Forest of Eriador in their ship building. Which is why the Gwathlo is named as it is, even though it is bare of trees.

Treebeard is one of the most melancholic character of the entire legendarium, even more than the Elves. His words convey a sense of loss and nostalgia
Well said. I had never considered this perspective so deeply, and yet so succinctly.
Treebeard is the oldest creature in middle earth aside from Tom Bombadil. Naturally, he has the weary of the world.
