      Sudden Arrival Thanks for the support! Actually, in the novels Gandalf preferred to go through the Mines of Moria while it was Aragorn who was reluctant. In the movies, it was Gandalf who preferred not to go that way. Hope that helps!

      I love Gimli, he is one of my favorite Lord of the Rings characters, could you do a video on Denethor II. He had a wife named Finduilas (wife of Denethor), one of the reasons he became bitter was after she died at the age of 38. I think doing a video on both Denethor II and his wife is a must. I like the book version of Denethor II more than the movie version. Simply put Denethor II had a hard life in both versions book and movies.
      One thing to note about him:
      Sauron attempted to wrench the Anor stone to his will but failed due to Denethor's strength of will, his integrity, and his right to the use of the stone. But this caused even greater stress upon the steward's already weakened body, coupled with the apparent invincibility of Sauron shown him by the stone.

It could even be debated that feanor had an influence on the hatred that existed between the elves and dwarves through the silmaril that has come into thingol’s possession

    My favorite piece of lore about Gimli is how respected he was as a warrior. Aragorn mentions to Legolas at the Battle of Helm's Deep (when they were wondering if Gimli had survived his retreat to the Glittering Caves) that he'd never seen anyone wield an axe so skillfully. I'm pretty sure someone in the books (I want to say Gandalf) said that the fact that the dwarves of Erebor allowed Gimli to accompany the Fellowship was a huge gesture (which few of the council of Elrond fully appreciated) showing how seriously they took the mission, as the dwarves knew that war was on the horizon and Gimli was considered to be WAY their best fighter.

  • @chriscooper654

    A nice tribute to the character. I love how Gimli comes to represent the Dwarven ideal through the course of his life: enduring as stone against toil, unyielding against temptation and deception, utterly loyal and even uncorrupted by wealth. Gimli and Legolas’s friendship is one of the best written in literature. Its just such a beautiful tale of two hostile groups coming together and looking beyond the appearance and what society may deem appropiate. To then find a lifelong friend. They were meant to defend gondor in isildurs time and fled, and were cursed, aragorn's deal was "fulfill that ancient oath and i will lift my ancestor's curse from you" they defended gondor in pelennor fields, oath fulfilled. If he refused to release them from they're oath after the battle. he would of become Aragorn the oathbreaker, essentially cursing them for eternity but with no way to control them, he would of had to fight the hordes of mordor, and an undead traitor army trying to kill him for betraying them to further earthly torment...he gave them a second chance, they took it and made good of their oath to the house of the king. And so aragorn rewarded loyalty and honour borne of a second chance at redemption, with honour and loyalty in kind. In short it was the only just thing to be done.

    Man... Words cannot describe how much I absolutely adore the character of Gimli. Out of all the many amazing characters Tolkien created for his story and Legendarium, the son of Gloin is definitely one of the best in my opinion. His hilarious personality and his development from not liking the elves to growing to have a high respect and fondness for them (even making such a strong and amazing friend out of one of them (with that being Legolas) that lasted even beyond the shores of Middle-Earth) is amazing. His history, of course, is equally as great. Thanks for making a video on our favorite dwarf, Yoystan! :)

    Someday I would enjoy a Faramir character history/focus.
    I've been trying to figure out how to suggest a quote on Tolkien Gateway and I haven't been successful so far, but I feel it as relevant now in our world as any time in ours or Arda when it is said- "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." --Faramir in The Two Towers.

      oh and I always have wondered if Tolkien like some "pipeweed" of his own. lol it even exist back then? which the answer must be yes but maybe it was taboo to speak of. I've heard the first forefathers of our country liked them some "pipeweed" as well lol so it must have existed during Tolkien's time lol. wasn't he English tho?

    • @Gwilfawe
      @Gwilfawe 5 лет назад

      @@seriously..... Yeah! So Tolkien was English and while im sure there was some """pipeweed""" in his time and place, and while I wonder if he had ever tried any, it has been verified that he enjoyed "Old Toby" or pipe tobacco thoroughly. I think he also enjoyed a good ale or brew.
      I was hooked on the movies for years and never read the books. 4 years ago I found a place to listen to the Phil Dragesh version of the audiobooks online for free. Since then I've listened through LOTR nine times now I think. If sitting down to read isn't your thing I would highly reccomend the audiobooks (you can listen in the car or while doing chores or whatever) its great! Phil Dragesh does what I think is an Immaculate job of getting voices from the films spot on in the audiobooks. Also there's music and sound effects through all of Phil's version. It's really great.
