One thing people don't mention very much about Dave's vocals is he generally writes killer lyrics and great counterpoint melodies against his hectic riffing. There's much more to singing than good technique, there's melody writing and story telling as the other dimensions
I've kind of always known this, but recently my 4 year old son has taken an interest in Megadeth and our usual guitar sing-a-longs have gotten nearly impossible as I try to sing along to these riffs that I've been playing for decades and finding it near impossible. Even seemingly simple songs like Trust - I honestly don't know how he does it. I have yet to make it through a single verse without tripping over myself on the fretboard.
Elixabeth grows more ravishing by the day. And can I just say how proud I am of her. It's not easy exposing your graying beard to the world without fear of judgement.
While playing those rhythms at the same time, nonetheless. Whatever you want to say about him, Mustaine's rhythm and pitch were impeccable, especially back in the day.

The entire "Rust in Peace" album is an absolute masterpiece! Dave's breakneck riffs, Marty's mind-boggling shredding, and David and Nick's rock-solid rhythmic foundation, it's just a perfect storm.
It's awesome to see her doing a vocal analysis of Mustaine. I have to confess surprise because Mustaine's voice is...uh...unique. He himself said that he doesn't consider himself a singer and most of what he learned was all self-taught and only as much as needed to actually play shows. But the riffs and the songwriting are legend. Easily my favorite of the Big 4.
It is that voice that is the reason why I have just that much more love for Megadeth that given the choise to choose only one, I would choose Megadeth over Metallica any day of the week.
I know this is April fools, but man... I've been waiting for this for a long time. Yes, Dave's voice is like that of disfigured angel's, but the way he delivers the lyrics in these songs is masterful. So much energy and purpose plus the message couldn't be clearer. Also worth mentioning that these guys were all freaking high on coke, or crack (or both) while they were performing. That's kinda impressive if you think about it. Glad they got over it and realised how great they could become. Megadeth's newest album is just brilliant. Really hoping for it to be featured.

Also, they didn't get over it, exactly. Dave has removed or driven off every original band member and writes all the material himself now with, more or less, studio musicians. Also, Dave's choice drug was Heroin as mentioned.
Yeah but although I think Nick wasn't living healthy till after this a bit but far as I know Marty Freedman was never a user aside from maybe smoking a joint once in a while.. But yes, Def heard about mustaine drinking very heavy and of course the evil dragon..

Rust in Peace is an absolute clinic. Most consider it thrash, but it is so much more. Arguably the Godfather and OG of technical metal. It is simply a masterpiece from beginning to end.

I was really fortunate to meet Marty Friedman a few weeks ago. It was a few days after he did the Megadeth reunion in Japan. He was still riding a high from that and just gushed about it when asked. He was humble, down to earth and put on an awesome show. It was a cool experience.
He sure "Cut off the heads" of all of us when solo on-tour with Queensryche in Anahiem a few weeks ago! Fantastic show. Was my 1st time seeing him solo, and my 1st time was seeing him on the Rust In Peace Tour. He really had the crowd roaring :). QR was just as great, was my 1st time to see them with Todd LaTorre, which Liz should react to as well.
You're really lucky guy. I listened Marty's album "Dragon's Kiss" before I found out he enter Megadeth. Actually I draw my attention on Megadeth because Marty became a member of this band. His guitar work is really fantastic and I was really encouraged when my friend said that my guitar work sometimes felt like inspired by his legacy.
This is so fantastic! My only regret is not seeing Elizabeth break down this incredible song. I’m very happy that she’s doing a A Tout le Monde, but that is such a very different song than most of the rest of their catalog. I would really love to see her analyze another one of their heavier and more technical trash songs. In my Darkest Hour would be a great choice. And I would love to hear what she thinks of the Skull Beneath the Skin. If she’s never heard it, I think it would melt her brain. Easily one of the most ambitious and challenging songs from any of the big four. It’s like thrash jazz, which makes sense, because Gar Samuelson, the drummer, came from jazz fusion.

Kirk has almost all of Elizabeth's facial expressions down pat. There are a couple that he left out, but maybe it was the lack of being impressed by Dave's vocals compared to say, Dio that kept those dreamy stares from Kirk's repertoire. Also, Kirk, You didn't restart the song from the beginning enough times. C'mon, Bro. Hearing Elizabeth laughing and watching Kirk keeping a straight face as he glances over to poke more fun at Elizabeth without saying a word was the best part of the video. So glad you two have a great sense of humor and a relationship that allows you two to play like this.

Originally Dave had not intended to do vocals. He wanted to focous on guitar but he couldn't find a singer he liked. So David (ellefson) said well why don't you just do the vocals. And so he did out of necessity. And that Dave can do vocals over those complicated riffs is pretty cool. 🤘 Also I love that he cracked up Elizabeth with that opera remark lol

I saw Megadeth on tour a couple months after 9/11. They played Holy Wars for the encore, and Mustaine returned to the stage with an American flag-painted guitar. In the context of the time, it absolutely brought down the house, and the memory remains etched in my mind.
Megadeth is really not about the vocals. Dave just kind of fell into doing them himself almost by default. Nevertheless Rust in Piece is an unassailable masterpiece of thrash from beginning to end.
When I was 14 on the youthanasia I got close the dressing room after a show , band walked by and asked if I needed anything signed, got my shirt signed by everyone, gutair picks, drumsticks ..then the pizza guy showed so I had a slice with them , great guys , what a memory
Yeah, Megadeth is my favorite metal band. At first I was a bit hesitant because of Dave’s voice. It grew on me. The breakdowns and time signature changes are the reason why I stayed. Rush is my favorite rock band. So naturally Megadeth is at the top of my metal favorites. The riffs, the lyrics, everything about it screams musical nerd metal paradise haha. Musicians generally have a great appreciation for MegaDeth😊
The Rust in Peace album is fantastic from start to finish, highlighted of course by one of the greatest yet underrated metal songs of all time, Tornado of Souls.
My favorite part of late 80s, early 90s thrash (other than the awesome diggy duggas & chugga chuggas) is I often learned way more about foreign policy, military imperialism, geopolitics & mythology than any class I ever took.

Dave's voice, those gnarly nasals, may be an acquired taste, but I can't think of Megadeth's music without it.

Originally Dave had not intended to do vocals. He wanted to focous on guitar but he couldn't find a singer he liked. So David (ellefson) said well why don't you just do the vocals. And so he did out of necessity. And that Dave can do vocals over those complicated riffs is pretty cool. 🤘

I saw Megadeth on tour a couple months after 9/11. They played Holy Wars for the encore, and Mustaine returned to the stage with an American flag-painted guitar. In the context of the time, it absolutely brought down the house, and the memory remains etched in my mind.

Megadeth is really not about the vocals. Dave just kind of fell into doing them himself almost by default. Nevertheless Rust in Piece is an unassailable masterpiece of thrash from beginning to end.
Same with Lemmy and Motörhead
When I was 14 on the youthanasia I got close the dressing room after a show , band walked by and asked if I needed anything signed, got my shirt signed by everyone, gutair picks, drumsticks ..then the pizza guy showed so I had a slice with them , great guys , what a memory
Yeah, Megadeth is my favorite metal band. At first I was a bit hesitant because of Dave’s voice. It grew on me. The breakdowns and time signature changes are the reason why I stayed. Rush is my favorite rock band. So naturally Megadeth is at the top of my metal favorites. The riffs, the lyrics, everything about it screams musical nerd metal paradise haha. Musicians generally have a great appreciation for MegaDeth😊
Yes, very hard not to be in awe-- not just EVERYTHING about the playing but singing while playing these riffs is hard to comprehend 🙏❤️
The Rust in Peace album is fantastic from start to finish, highlighted of course by one of the greatest yet underrated metal songs of all time, Tornado of Souls.
I think Holy Wars is the best tune but Tornado has the best solo…

Megadeth is the band that got me into metal. The first album I heard from them was Countdown to Extinction. Still enjoy that one to this day.
