I've seen a lot of people on social media talk about how unrealistic the relationship is in Heartstoppers. Of course it is and so are 90% of all hetero romance/rom coms and dramas. It's a feel good tv series, that depicts a healthy, happy growing relationship between to two high schoolers, it doesn't need to be "realistic". Enjoy it, because it helps set the precedent and pave the way for more movies and tv shows with LGBTQ+ couples with happy endings and we all know growing up that shows like this HELP A LOT of us! Growing up as a millennial, we had very few representation in the media and even then, they were usually caricatures of our most used stereotypes. Shout out to 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' for making Willow and Tara such an iconic gay couple. We won't even mention what or rather the lack of what Boomers had back in their days, I can only imagine. It's funny because so many people talk about how we have too few choices when it comes to gay stories with happy endings and then when we finally get some, they say they're unrealistic and unrelatable. Even if you can't relate to it personally, It is an incredibly cutesy and heartwarming series.

because of the gay films and series i watched before, i was slightly on my guard if Heartstopper was gonna do a twist like Charlie's dad dies, Ben outs them, Nick is just playing him... 😅. I like how Heartstopper is just a straight forward show
As a Boomer a series like Heartstopper is just too unrealistic and outright hogwash. At that age sex is predominate yet these two characters bump kiss and gaze at flying birds over their heads. There is no hint of real intimacy. Ridiculous - lying to the viewer in this way creates a viewer who will never find real happiness because any relationship they ever have will never stand up to the twinkling stars and blue-birds they have been conned into believing should hover and flutter with every boy they meet. That isn't gay life, it is a gay rainbow fantasy. Again, ridiculous.
Heart stopper is amazing. Totally different from Elite. It is family friendly but will put tears in your eyes often.

I can totally relate about the high school thing, it was completely uneventful for me, I didn't start dating until after I graduated and even now I don't have much going on
What you mentioned about high school is sometimes called delayed adolescence in the queer community, there is also a term for second adolescence for when you come out/figure things out and finally have those experiences that most people have in their teen years, it really messes you up sometimes, there are actual studies that suggest homosexuals who were openly gay in their school years are better adjusted as adults.
When you mentioned that I FELT SEEN, I'm 24 and I still have't lived some basic aspects of my sexuality because I live in a rural and conservative area, I also have some trauma from my first relationship and sexual assault later one, plus body image issues because I'm chubby.

At 55, I still remember the trauma.

You gotta watch Heartstopper. It's such a cute depiction of what we all wished we had in high school. LGBTQ media needs to be more positive and uplifting instead of negative.
When I was dating, my guy payed for a lot of things, but he has a better job than I do. So, I got a better job, and now I pay for many things. Buying things gives you some pride and control, more than if one partner is buying everything.

I’m 74yo, and had a bf starting my junior year of hs. That’s right, 1964. We kept it on the down low but it lasted three years.
OMG, you’re a champion cuddle buddy?!? I love that. And the thing about not being able to relate with high school gay TV, totally. Although I love the hope and positive outlook, and I think all the positive gays on tv and in film have really helped people of all politics and beliefs become for comfortable with us. So even though I personally can’t relate exactly, I applaud those being made.

It's hard to say much about heartstopper without spoiling but I guess what I would say is that yeah, it's a feel-good love story on the surface. If you're looking for that then you'll find it, but if you're looking for more complex issues about LGBTQ+ identity and mental health then you'll find that too. The author herself said in interviews that she wanted to address those issues without compromising the positive representation of LGBTQ+ people that the show was meant to foster. Plus first seasons always kind of skim the surface - that's why I'm hoping they'll get a second one to further address the complexities of these characters.

You can NEVER have enough cuddles! I LOVE to cuddle, but by boyfriend doesn't. One, my torso gets super warm, but my hands and feet get cold lol. However, he really hates it because whenever we do, he falls asleep. No matter how wired he is. I've always done that to people. They always pass out. You NEED to watch "HeartStopper"!!!! I was worse than you in school. But the show is SUPER worth it!!!!

I’ve heard lots of folks got jealous after watching heartstoppers because it was soo not their own experience. Made some of them sad because they missed out on the experience of dating and whatnot in hs.

Totally agree with you on guys that are hot. My boyfriend is a little chubby. I have a couple friends who have actually asked me why I am with him and not someone who weighs less. First of all...rude! Second, because he is kind, thoughtful, and so attractive that I can't get enough of him (and he knows everything there is to know about Star Wars, Star Trek and the Marvel super hero movies!). Some gay guys are so focused on the generic lean athletic body types, they miss out on great guys.

Heartstoppers is really good, like you said about how beleiveble it really is, it isn't. I'm graduating high school on monday and it was nothing like how it is on the show no matter how much I wish it was.

Heartstopper is incredibly cute but highly unrealistic - for example, in English secondary grammar schools such as is the setting, as far as I can tell Nick & Charlie are separated a year apart, educationally...
16yo Nick is at least what used to be called 5th form, now known as Year 11, US Sophomore; maybe even Lower or Upper 6th/Year12-13/US Junior or Senior, if he's supposed to be 17 (maybe) or 18 (don't think so) years old.
14-15yo [as one episode makes 100% clear] Charlie is 4th form/Year 10/US Freshman.
As such, they would never be in the same classes unless Charlie was exceptionally academically advanced OR Nick was set back, retaking previous academic years, in which case he definitely wouldn't be captain of the school rugby team.
Regardless of any of the above, they would never be in the same "form group", not even just for daily "registration": just doesn't happen. Ever!
The closest you might get would be if they were both living in the same 'house' at a boarding school (think along similar lines of segregated dormitories for Griffindor etc. as in Harry Potter)
