    Mr. Tucker, thanks a million times over for the treasure trove of videos that you have posted. I have dabbled in watercolors off and on for 25 years or so and have had much more disappointment and frustration than pleasing results seemingly no matter what I tried or how low I've kept my expectations. Your videos have helped me understand elemental to much more advanced concepts and techniques than I would have ever figured out on my own and have helped me climb out of the abyss that i've been stuck in since nearly the start. I'm very grateful for your fabulous generosity, expertise and teaching style!!! The timing during this lockdown is heaven sent too. Thanks again!!!!!

    Hi Gary, I love the mood that you create by using these graded washes!
    A question about the color choice you use in these (and other) washes. Is there a specific reason why you frequently use yellow ochre and some of the cadmium colors? If am using the more "opaque" watercolors, I end up with somewhat duller paintings if I mix them up with other colors and when they dry. Yours don't have that at all and seem really vibrant. For me the more transparent hues such as raw sienna, alizarin, burnt sienna are easier to handle.

    • @allanpennington
      @allanpennington 3 года назад

      Im no expert however watching many videos it seems to me that not all colours are made equal. They may have the same name between brands and in some cases even the same pigments in them however depending on the carrier and manufacturing process they can range from transparent to semi transparent and even to opaque. So experiment with different brands, choose a colour you like and that works for your style and don't be tied to what others do but be guided and then make your best choice.

    Absolutely love this. Why does this seem so utterly simple compared to what a hyper realistic artist does and yet its anything but simple or easy. My mind tries to make realistic images and its a struggle to stay this loose. Why is that?

    I see in Winslow Homers watercolors of clouds a repeating theme. The background clouds form a simple sloping pattern ; not too complicated to compete with the subjects.

    Gary - I love your work and your instruction. Most inspiring!
    I do have a question - I'm not to the point of buying Arches paper yet, but I can't help noticing the watermark
    in the upper left corner. Is this a common concern with this paper? Seems like it could ruin an otherwise
    great painting.

    • @reneeaubuchon6683
      @reneeaubuchon6683 6 лет назад +2

      I had the same question, so I hope you get an answer. Also Arches paper is said to contain "organic gelatin." I am assuming this is an animal product- and something I would prefer not to have in my watercolor paper.

    • @tbomber
      @tbomber 6 лет назад

      i assume this was from a roll and perhaps the very first section of a brand new one, but i'm not sure.
      arches blocks do not have any watermarks. they are excellent. you will notice a big difference. i recommend 300gsm (140lb). cold press and rough are both spectacular.

    • @viktorial1882
      @viktorial1882 5 лет назад +1

      Hey guys! You get a watermark in one corner when you buy a full sheet (you’ll know it’s a full sheet when it has deckled edges all around). I have several watercolour blocks from arches, they don’t come watermarked

    How do I keep my paper from warping and buckling? Yours always seem perfectly flat and normal. Is there a magic type to buy and will it cost a kings ransom? I'm just beginning and love your videos

    • @GaryTuckerArtist
      @GaryTuckerArtist  4 года назад +5

      Scoot - thx for the question...my paper buckles as well though sometimes hard to see in the video. You can try 2 things. #1 stretching the paper which is time consuming (search stretching watercolor paper on RUclips) or #2 300 lb paper which is expensive - I have settled on developing my technique to accommodate some buckling, working in smaller areas, and letting things dry before adding important detail.

    • @MsBettyRubble

      It's Arches watercolor paper. So it's at least 300 rough. Any good watercolor paper should do the trick though.

    Me. Tucker I am an watercolor amateur artist and I follow your demonstrations .I made a picture from your photo in Venezia canal. You didn’t mean anything with it.
    It just was an accidental shot, but I challenged the occasion .Please let me know how bad it come out .I respect your word...Greg Solomon

    Yes, your clouds have the basic structure of Homer's. But he put a few minutes more of work into them.
