It's kinda wild how much the perception of this franchise has changed since the prequels came out. Initially people laughed at the idea that anyone would be interested in intergalactic banking and politics and now there are in depth analyses for political and economic systems in the STAR Wars universe going back thousands of years.

    How to destroy the jedi:
Step 1: start a war that lasts for years.
Step 2: have them pick a side.
Step 3: watch them compromise to the point they are no lonher jedi.

I think we're all forgetting one key element: for the most part, the clones were fighting droids. They were soulless machines that almost seemed to reflect their own existence; to just fight and die. It would have angered them, and instilled a certain fear. So, they made their tactics more brutal. They weren't fighting living beings, and the line between droid and clone only seemed to be drawn at the flesh.
Basically, they quickly became desensitized to the violence against their enemy as their enemy showed a willingness to do whatever it took to win, and their enemy wasn't even alive. They also saw themselves in the droids, to an extent, and it both enraged and terrified them.
Then human officers seeing their clone subordinates and no different than the droids didn't help much either.

I just watch a documentary about the absolutely apocalyptic Battle of Berlin, the roads were so choked with rubble that soviet sappers were forced to literally blast away through the sub street cellars and engage in brutal CQB combat for every house and room, just to move forward. so this kind of thing isn't surprising when it's the entire galaxy at war.

@Tron I actually think this gives a reason for a lot of Imperial Navy designs and doctrines, you can't beat the CIS droid fighters, so your best bet is to knock out their carriers. The droid fighters are largely battery driven and lack hyperdrives, lightspeed out of the area then return a day or two later to mop up the offlined droid fighters. The Star Destroyers are all built around killing other capital ships, let the TIE fighters handle defenses until you can down the enemy carriers or base, and get out, it's the perfect ship in the wrong war.

the force allows a user to sense danger. there was an army of force using sith. they wouldn't have much of an ambush as you would think. to stay at range so sith could deflect your own blaster bolts back at you would be suicide.
they had to close at the start and battle at close range.
similar to the geonosian battle in EP II.

I also think Palpatine used the later Clone Wars battles as a vetting process for Non-clone non-Jedi officers. Officers like Tarkin rapidly rose through the ranks because they used brutality, terror, and ruthless efficiency as their primary warfare strategies, tools useful for keeping the Empire in power, and it’s subjects afraid. Tarkin is one who thinks excessive brutality is the same as skillful strategy, which is why he never cared about casualties under his command as long as they were effective on the objective.

However, I also believe that Palpatine deliberately pulled the Separatists’ strings in order for the Republic to Retaliate accordingly. Basically, Palpatine went no further than six degrees of separation; coaxing problems in order to bring out solutions & such.

Sounds like the GAR evolved just how not only Sideous planned but exactly as he predicted theyd go. Not that it was avoidable. Long, brutal, bloody wars like this require both sides to start however they feel but if they are ultimately going to win they have to be willing to do whatever that requires. Sacrifices have to be made. War is Hell for reason. They may very well have been sickened an heavily regretted the things they did. But that's what they joined up for, an in the Clones case literally bred and born into. An one in that situation has to do whatever it takes. War isn't won by always playing nice the longer it goes on. An the longer that went the more an more worse each woulda became depending on how much they intended to win. It's as much a "what will you do an how far will you go" to win it as actually doing it

“The Tactics sure changed. The uniforms were first a part of a shock tactic that didn’t work against droids since they didn’t get effected by morale. In fact, I wrote a little presentation that got some things for the scouts of my battalion, including more equipment and camouflage patterns to paint on. Around that time, all the scouts in the army started putting camouflage paint of many varieties, and sharpshooters, then entire regiments. Yep. I contributed to the movement that those damn Kaminoans put on us. If you think about it, they weren’t better than the people sending droids to cut us down.” ARF/CT-8711-12 “Cheng”, Captain And Scout of the 442nd Siege Battalion

What are mandalorian tactics? Not just against the jedi and not just against the sith either. What are their tactics against every other alien species that they fought against, especially in the mandalorian wars? My question is why are they the most superior Warriors within the Galaxy when we don't even have have any info on how they fight, anywhere in legends or Canon. Because I think it takes more than just a suit of armor and a bunch of fancy gadgets to make someone a superior war fighter.

    • @GeneralGrievous-1138
      @GeneralGrievous-1138 5 лет назад +3

Maringer86 We do have Legends info on their tactics, actually. It focused on heavy firepower and brute force, with their technology (heavy blaster weapons, armor, Basilisk war droids, and warships) being the backbone of all their strategies. Oftentimes they would just outright destroy entire or large swaths of worlds, using nuclear weaponry or turbolaser bombardment to glass them; at one point, their plans for an invasion of Kashyyyk involved glassing an entire continent to create a battlefield to fight on. In space, their tactics were primarily offensive and focused on overwhelming force, and the same was true for the ground; in both cases, they were usually more than willing to bomb civilian targets or just gun down civilians when they got in the way. One of their trademark tactical moves was launching an invasion by dropping their ground force down from orbit riding Basilisk war droids, which would waste no time with deployment once troops hit the surface.

On a smaller scale, we can see many Mandalorian squads or individual troopers emphasizing a great deal mobility and disruption tactics, something their famous jetpacks and varied arsenals aided with. This let them hit hard and fast, breaking up enemy formations and confusing their opposition. There seemed to be a focus on individual skill, rather than finely honed teamwork; while they could fight and move as a team, we can see a lot of times where Mandalorians seemed to fight independent of each other. Generally, Mandalorians seemed to pride themselves on being do-anything warriors, rather than individually specialized soldiers. One could reasonable expect any given Mandalorian to be able to fight, pilot ships, slice security, perform acts of sabotage or demolition, or perform reconnaissance. This would be something their glory seeking culture would emphasize. And while Mandalorians did emphasize a certain amount of honor in combat, it wasn't what some would consider conventional. Ambushes, hit-and-run tactics, terror tactics, and more could all be reasonably considered to be options on the table for a Mandalorian.
Ultimately, they were ruthless, well-equipped fighters that emphasize individual excellence, rather than fighting as unit. Not to say that they couldn't be well-coordinated and work precisely with one another. But many were often more ready to seek glory for themselves, than not.
