    Someone should’ve uploaded in loving memory of Hollywood Pictures, when it got defunct. RIP to both Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures respectively.

    It’s gonna be one of those labels that will be the answer to “Why is THIS on Disney+?”, to which it will be responded “THAT WAS DISNEY?”

    Yeah; I don't exactly have the same nostalgia for Hollywood Pictures as I do for Touchstone, but hey, that doesn't mean I don't have any fond memories of watching movies released under the Hollywood Pictures banner. Some examples of films released under the label that I remember seeing include "Sarafina", "Quiz Show", "While You Were Sleeping", "Mr. Holland's Opus", "Celtic Pride", "The Rock", "Jack", "Gone Fishin'", and (probably the most noteworthy one for me) "Simon Birch".

    This brought back so many memories of my childhood, I remember watching films under this label such as "Tombstone," "The Sixth Sense," "Arachnophobia" (first Hollywood Pictures film), and "Super Mario Bros." which is what boosted John Leguizamo's film career. I've been wanting to see "Spy Hard" and "Jack." Hollywood Pictures' second film called "Taken Care of Business" was the first film for J. J. Abrams to have any involvement in as he went on to do Transformers and later Star Trek films. It helped Eddie Murphy expand his horizon beyond Paramount with the Hollywood Pictures film "The Distinguished Gentlemen." "The Sixth Sense" helps boost M. Night Shyamalan's directing career. Despite popular belief and several poor films released under this label, I kind of miss this production company and it is sad that this is now been dormant for 14 years. I don't think people understand the nostalgia involved in this how many careers it helped boost. These movies released under this chain may have had several flops but helped director and actors realize there are bigger things to come. Maybe this was a company that people would work with to inspire them to move on with Hollywood Pictures and/or other people.

    I hope Mr. Coat talks about the History of New Line Cinema and even Regency Enterprises, also talk about the Rise and Fall of British Film studio Polygram Filmed Limited someday! (btw I'm surprised you didn't mention Camp Nowhere in which Christopher Lloyd was in that movie!)

    Another thing that came out of Hollywood Pictures, was their music label:
    "Hollywood Records"
    Which in the year: "1995", put out the John Lennon charity album:
    "Working Class Hero: A Tribute to John Lennon"
    A compilation of John Lennon songs covered by various musicians and bands.
    That's something that came out of Hollywood that's worth remembering.

    Another cool thing about Hollywood Pictures is that it was the first film company Eddie Murphy worked with that wasn't Paramount. Because back in the 80's, Eddie Murphy could only do movies for Paramount, because they tricked him, into singing, the last of one of those types of contracts. But in: "1992", Eddie did his first non-Paramount movie, with: "The Distinguished Gentleman", which was released by Hollywood Pictures.
    Which I looked on your letterboxd page and I see you've never seen: "The Distinguished Gentleman". Well, take my advice Stefan, you're missing out. If you can, definitely check Distinguished Gentleman out, because it's an underrated gem of Eddie Murphy's. And when you do see it, maybe it'll inspire you to do another episode of: "Which is better?", in which you compare it to: "Head of State", because those are both political comedies starring famous African American comedians. Me personally though, I prefer Distinguished Gentleman.

      Eddie Murphy probably would have done Ghostbusters if it weren't for that deal. That same deal was also made with Edward Norton. His clear dissatisfaction showed in his lack of promotion for the movie The Italian Job.

    Ah yes, I'm glad you brought up the fact that this company produced my least favorite film. As you pointed out, how many movies are bad enough to kill the career of a fake name?
    And I get why they didn't last: Even with some of the big films, Hollywood Pictures definitely had a B-feel to it

    • @fromthehaven94
      @fromthehaven94 3 года назад +2

      If Disney thought ahead, they would have done what companies like Sony (with Screen Gems), Universal (with Rogue Pictures) and their onetime subsidiary Miramax (with Dimension Films) did and make Hollywood Pictures their genre film division. Have all the Bruckheimer action movies, the Pauly Shore comedies, and some of the horror movies (they only made Puppet Masters and Deep Rising) under Hollywood and the rest under Touchstone.

    • @andywinslow9638
      @andywinslow9638 4 года назад +3

      Mr. Rogers. Because he isn't afraid to talk about the worst things( death, divorce, war, etc.) and does it in a way to help kids through it. Sesame Street is good but didn't always take on these issues the right way(the 3rd at all to date as far as I know). You're probably going have you ever seen goodbye Mr. Hooper? The problem I had with that is it really gave no reason it happened and I flat out found the ending with Big Bird just crying and saying well I'm going to miss you Mr. Hopper as demeaning and kind of stupid if Im being honest. How about saying you'll always have us and Mr. Hooper not suffering? However they did an updated one where Elmo's uncle died that was handled really well as it said I know how you feel and had Louie telling Elmo and his niece Uncle Jack isn't going to be replaced but said he'd like to take them to a ball game.
