      I wish we could get a remake of the first. Or the third one to be more like the first with the UI and QOL of the second. The second is my favorite but mainly because it lets you know what you're doing and has a proper UI, but if you look close enough it's an RTS through and through. Once the mask falls down it's difficult to not think about it.

    13:18 - Tbf, this is also addressed. He originally saw that you have the potential to defeat Jack of Blades. He even gets very excited during your final exam, especially when you do the archery section, he says something akin to, "Yes, that's it! Now, strike lightning at me". At that point, he's stacking his chips on you. But later, he lost hope some time after your final test because Jack was so powerful and so on track to achieve his goals. He thought Jack couldn't be stopped. After you defeat Maze, he realises that you have reached a high enough level of power that Jack no longer seems so unbeatable. You reignite his hope in that fight. THAT'S what he's proud of. You brought him back to that feeling he had when he tested you in your youth

    What gets me is that the Heroes' Guild will have quests for both good and evil outcomes on the same notice board. So you'll go over there and see a quest reading "Help! Bandits are raiding our shipments and we need protection! The Merchants' Guild", and then next to it is another quest reading "LOL, let's go kill some merchants, Sincerely: The Bandits".
    It's a bit odd, is all I'm saying.

    • @deathstar6998
      @deathstar6998 Месяц назад +13

      Its odd but considering the Heroes were like a force of nature controlling the world both for good and bad it makes sense that both kinds of quests are available. Besides the whole concept of good and evil in Fable was very primitive but still interesting.

      @MoffMuppet Месяц назад +21

      @@deathstar6998 See, I get that part. All I’m saying is that if I was a merchant in Fable, and had just asked the Heroes’ Guild to help protect my next caravan, only to then pass by their notice board on the way out and find a separate quest to ROB my caravan, I’d feel a bit put off and question the seriousness of the guild.
      It’d be like going to the supermarket and seeing a notice for ”Missing cat, Mr. Whiskers”, only to find another notice next to it saying ”Check out this sweet cat I just yoinked”. And the notices both have pictures of the same cat.

      @Drewpdoo Месяц назад +3

      No way!! I didn't do an evil playthrough until TLC came out, and I was so disappointed by the Sword of Aeons; like you get the exact same sword either way. Avo's Tear didn't exist before The Lost Chapters, the real reason is so that people could do the post main story quests without having to use the only viable weapon in the game, since they would have to balance the new quests to be a lot harder for people with a 500 attack weapon to not get bored.
      So instead, by nerfing it they were able to balance the quests more fairly for people who didn't want to use one of the two swords.

    I remember in the original (and I think The Lost Chapters too) that the save system allowed you to cheese the Hobbe Cave quest to obtain unlimited silver keys via the Hero Save function. Dig up the silver key at the old lady's cottage during the opening of the Hobbe Cave quest, do a Hero Save, then quit the game. It would save your Hero's inventory but NOT the world state. So the key would be in your pocket + still at the dig spot. Rinse and repeat. Doesn't work in the Anniversary edition though

    Day 2 of finally playing Wrath of the Righteous:
    Wow, now that I’m in the tavern and getting to speak to and make new allies: it just feels like I’m reading a really good book. I’ve done nothing besides spend an hour reading dialogue, but I already know more about my comrades and their personalities than by the end of some other games I’ve played.
    I absolutely was not expecting the city to open up as much as it did after leaving the tavern. I feel like I have a dozen different places I can go already, and I absolutely love when that moment hits in a game. The transmog golem outside made me laugh too.
    You were definitely right to warn about bugs, even much later after release, I’m encountering a few every hour. I didn’t even mention that I somehow got entirely stuck in the character creation screen on the last page, it just entirely froze up and I had to force close the game and start from scratch ;-;
    Can’t wait to see the game open up more. I’m sure the combat is gonna get a ton more complex which is both exciting and intimidating at the same time!

    I just love Fable 1. I first played it back in 2004 or 2005 and it's been one of my favorite games ever. Back in the day I used to replay the game a lot, always playing with a different build. As an archer, as a warrior, as a mage, as a made up Death Knight (Warrior with certain magic) and so on. Sadly the game was never as difficult as the first time I played it when I basically played in the way it was intended. I very quickly figured many exploits out on my own back then and have learned many more over the years and now I always play with exploits and just blast through the game like it's no one business. BUT I still love the story, the characters, the world, the setting and I am very excited for the new Fable, the Reboot, because I hope and pray that they manage to bring back the magic of seeing and exploring the magic of Albion for the first time again.

    The Whisper decision showcases one of my pet peeves in game writing: You get a choice for a character to live/die or stay/leave, but no matter what you pick that's the last time you ever see or hear from them, as though they were never in the game to begin with. It makes sense that they didn't want to write two different story branches, and back then there might have been technical limits too, but in practice, it goes beyond a simple lack of consequence for your choice and takes it to a whole new level by erasing them from existence either way.

Along with the economy game not needing you to turn into a murder hobo to get all of the properties in a city, maybe a bit more grindy since you couldn't take advantage of buying out a stock of gems to re-sell it to traders for more on repeat.

    Utterly fantastic game.
    Sure, it's actually quite broken gameplay wise. But I think most of us never noticed or even cared about this back when we played it for the first time. Partially because we were a lot younger, but also because then it wasn't that common to research everything about the game online. Finding every little secret, solving every puzzle and completing all the sidequests was what made this game so satisfying for me.
    Fable 2 wasn't -as- good in my experience, for me mainly because the story and gameplay were fairly bland. But it was still enjoyable for those same reasons of exploration.
    Don't talk to me about Fable 3 though. The awful inventory system ruined that game for me entirely.

      Tbh, the physical game manual had all the most important cheese strategies mentioned in it. Afaik, it mentioned "this mission has a load of enemies spawning all the time, it's a great place to stack up your combat multiplier and experience, especially if you combine it with the powerful Physical Shield skill that makes combat easy!"
      And everyone I know read the manuals back when I was a kid, because that was the only thing to do while the game was installing

      One of my favorite memories in all of my time playing games was discovering that "Physical Shield" protected your experience multiplier on hit. You can chug mana potions and easily rack up a massive experience multiplier, maxing out your character really early on.
      Nowadays, it's impossible for me to not hear about cheeses and exploits, but back then discovering something myself was awesome.

    Fable Anniversary lighting is pretty borked on 360 as a heads up. As is the melee combat.
    I think ive heard the XBox ports of both versions are the intended so keep that in mind.

    People have been criticizing the style and looks of the characters from the upcoming reboot, but they must not have been paying attention. Fable has always been gritty, chubby, unclean, "ugly" etc. It's part of the whimsical style.
    I'm glad they aren't making it as clean and girly (and creepy) as anime or your typical 5 o'clock shadow hero guy world. Fable has charm and personality.

    It has been over a decade for me to, but I think you can get younger to if your pour your gold into the good temples donation. Making gold somewhat usefull in the long run.
    It might also be worth mentioning the skill elixirs give you 1000 point times your multiplayer combat. Soo raising it to 50 and then pop up one elixir will give you 50000 Strenght/Skill/Magic experience.

    Anyways, thing with Fable: The Lost Chapters, which I've also played a lot when I was younger, on paper it looks unbeloevably epic, almost too good to be true. And funny thing is, everything is there... sort of.
    Like, they are not lying per se, it's just all kinda half-assed :D But even then, the game is lots of, taken for what it is, rather than for what you imagine it would be :D

    The main thing i want these newer games to realize is the way you get loot. For example. Exaliber in fable is a unique way to get a powerfull weapon. Its not just a drop. Same thing with that hammer in morriwind that ways like 1 million or something lol…. Thats how looting needs to be done.

    I will always have a lot of love for Fable and it has some really interesting mechanics. But I think the true test of any game is how much it defies the passage of time and I just don't think Fable 1 has aged well in that regard. Whereas, for example, the original metal gear solid on PS1 still blows 99% of modern games out of the water for me regardless of its graphics because of the timeless quality of the base product
