    Building a FULL Shower in a VAN (Cargo Van to Tiny Home Conversion)
    I'm in the middle of building a cargo van into a tiny home for a subscriber of this youtube channel. In this episode, I'm building a full shower equipped with a rain-head shower faucet, shower wand and fully pressurized hot running water.
    Before building the shower, I insulated the wall behind it with wool insulation. Next I framed the wall where I wanted to secure it to the metal shell of the cargo van itself. Then I used a combination of 1/4" an 1/2" plywood to make the three walls of the shower.
    I drilled a hole though the floor of the van for the drain of the shower. I then installed the shower pan and covered the cracks in the wall connections with flashing tape.
    The final step in water proofing was to roll on several coats of waterproof membrane onto the plywood walls. Once this was complete, I added PVC wall tiles to the plywood walls to give the aesthetic of a traditional shower.
    Plumbing:
    I used a 16 gallon fresh water tank to supply the water system that I installed. The water pump pressurizes the system and pulls water from the fresh water tank into an electric water heater and then the cold and hot water lines connect to the shower faucet.
    Drainage:
    I used aluminum brazing to make a sturdy frame for a gray water tank to be mounted underneath the van. I used rivnuts to attach the gray water tank frame to the solid metal frame of the vehicle. Then I connected the drain hose from the shower to the gray water tank and added a gravity powered spout for easy drainage of the gray water tank.

    Awesome job! I love how you mounted the tank underneath. Looks hella strong! A tip for you if you want immediate and consistent pressure from your water pump, you should put in an accumulator tank. It's like a little air pressure tank that goes just past your pump in the system. I put one in after my first build and it's amazing how much pressure I have as soon as I turn on the faucet. I also have about 20 seconds of pressure if the pump is switched off.

    nice little shower! however, the fewer cuts on those shower wall pieces, the better...no matter how amazingly well your cutie-pie sister caulks, *water finds a way.* also, just the cold-warm cycling, and road vibrations will lead to tiny little pull-aways from the caulk-edge interface, and water will seep in, or condensate. not too big of a deal because of your 4 coats of red guard, but let the material work for you, not against you. :)

    • @AnhH88
      @AnhH88 Год назад +1

      I was also worried about that tiled shower. It would have been better to go with a one piece metal insert but I’m sure he did that bc the client wants that wall title. Vinyl is better than actual tiles but it will not hold up over time.

    • @mjremy2605
      @mjremy2605 Год назад +1

      This tile is probably the Palram brand or similar. It is tongue in groove for most part so you already have a locking system. Caulk is additional. Considering how little the shower it used - one shower a day at most, it should hold up for a long time. The looks are stylish marble and the material is very lightweight. Sure beats ceramic or heavy glass tile. The one piece inserts (which I have) are a royal pain to clean with soap scum and water spots all over. They are butt ugly, and yellow with time becoming uglier, yuck! What choices do you have really? Metal inserts have other issues and are pricey, heavy, hard to cut, etc. Tile is too heavy. FRP sheets are hard to find in decent colors and large, heavy, cumbersome to install. Make one mistake in cut and whole sheet is ruined. This is a good solution. When it degrades, replace it.

    • @douglasharley2440

      @@douglasharley2440 Yes, you are right. Only in places though. This vinyl tile comes in 12 x 24" size so you have to cut some ends. Not too many hopefully.

    Question: Have you ever thought about designing a "rain collection system" so you won't have to constantly refill fresh water? All you need is water filters and UV lights to clean the rain water for consumption. But, you can stay off grid longer if you have a "rain water collection system". Just something to ponder. :)
