Years after retiring from their formidable ninja lives, a dysfunctional family must return to shadowy missions to counteract a string of looming threats.
How no one tried making ninja content since ninja assassin is beyond me. Hype for this
What a banger of a movie too bad it didn't get the attention it deserved. I would love to explore more of that universe.
That movie was the perfect balance between fan service and a believable story. Crazy how it started from a joke. Definitely an authentic classic that escaped the hands of hollyweird executives.
@@ComicaziThe actions scenes in the movie were well choreographed. But, the story, acting and dialogue was pretty much direct to video level. So not a surprise that it never got a sequel.
Right?
I still do not understand why there haven't been any shows/movies based on the Nicholas Linnear character from the Eric Van Lustbader novels. That's an incredible modern ninja story just waiting to be brought to big screen or small screen.
After decades and still not seeing a single movie about ninja that can beat ninja assassin (2009)
What of Scott Adkins' Ninja and the part two Ninja: Shadow of a tear.
I agree. But maybe with this, well slowly get there. It dont look as bad or cheesy as i expected, but we'll see.
Respect to Scott Adkins. He really tried. Tae Kwon Do just doesn't look right in a ninja suit.
The best ninja movie ever made was shinobi no mono series. But only for those interested in historical accuracy.
@@tatumergo3931I was just going to say the same thing. I absolutely love shinobi no mono. I own the whole box set. Castle of owls and seventeen ninja are also really good
This looks EPIC, Ninjas need more hype 🙌🏼
Facts.
Yeah been a while since they've gotten some love.
Real ninja it's only for scout and sending and receiving message ,they not train to kill ..but in movie they're more like assassin lol
@@MrRydoone they do train martial arts but yeah ur right
@@MrRydoone "not trained to kill" i can't .................... their houses were literally filled with hidden rooms, passages, floors, funneling entries, etc. for the ninja to quietly evade & execute intruders. Enjoyed this series so much. Desperately waiting for season 2. Plz renew this franchise for season 2.
After all millenials and Gen Z need to know Ninja Movies aside from Naruto 😭
Welcome back the glorious era of Ninja like the 80s 🎉🎉🎉
Exactly what I was thinking. There hasn't been a live action ninja movie in so long.
Gen Z more then Millenials
Us millennials grew up with ninja movies in the 90s. You mean Gen Z
TMNT:
edit: nevermind i sound stupid yall meant ninja as in non-magical, non-mutant, non-turtle, and preferably doing more ninja stuff and at first they loled, and then they serioused
Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja, Pray for Death, Ninja 3 the Domination. Still have em on VHS
Is the 80s ninja craze about to make a comeback?!
ninjas and transformers. the movie we all wanted but never will have.
Where's Sho Kosugi in this, right??
make it so
It really needs to! Naruto and Ninja Assassin can't do it all forever! lol
Please and thank you.
i love it when they dont stray much away from the origin of being a ninja.
Well there's two types of "ninja", normal people that were just highly skilled assassins using a unique set of tools to execute a hit on someone. And then you have what is more commonly known as the super natural ninja magic fantasy stuff like people jumping 30 feet into the air doing double back flips, while turning invisible and getting into 20 minute long samurai sword fights. Hopefully they keep it more grounded to reality yeah...
They have to stray greatly from the origin or it would be really boring! lol The original "ninjas"(shinobi) were spies. Most of them were village folks not even trained to fight. Their jobs were simply to camp out and gather intel to report back to their commanders. As time went on they realized the need to put themselves in more precarious situations to complete their jobs so sometimes they'd have to get in deep undercover and pretend to be someone that belonged to a rival clan/camp etc.
During night they'd wear black so it was harder to see them(I know that's obvious) just to sneak into an enemy camp and hopefully steal some belongings with the clan's "crest" on it making it easier to blend in. They rarely even carried weapons because that would draw too much attention.
When they became a bit more closer to the fighting ninjas we are familiar with was when some samurai and ronin also became spies some decades later. They were already trained in military combat so all they needed to do was hide and watch and if they got caught they knew how to fight their way out. If they carried a weapon it wasn't the good ol' fashion Leonardo katana, but a shorter one. Less noise, less size, easier to hide, easier to use in tight spaces. But most of those other weapons were samurai weapons, some police weapons like the sai and jitte.
Assassinations did happen, but very very rarely as it wasn't their primary job nor was it really needed. And seriously, how many people would actually volunteer to hide in a sewer underneath a guy taking a crap to plunge a spear up his butt? 😂🤮 (old Uesugi Kenshin rumor)
@@hugejackedman3447 False. The only thing that you said that was correct is the fact that Shinobi lived in villages. Now lets get to the corrections. Shinobi were, in fact, an independent *Warrior Sect* exceptionally skilled in fighting arts. Their fighting-skill-reputation preceeded them which is why they were able to get paid as mercenaries. You think a warlord is gonna hire someone to sneak into a castle and kill his arch enemy without any fighting ability? ? ?.....LOLOLLLL. They should've never gave you internet, dude. Log-off and study before you come on here saying dumb shit.
@@JanWynd *Hire?* lol That goes to show you DO know what you are talking about but you need to humble your ego a bit.
THE ORIGINAL shinobi was the main idea here, which you totally overlooked somehow. ORIGINALLY there was no hiring process till the Koga and Iga established actual ninja sects offering their services and that didn't happen till the daimyos realized that the shinobi could actually turn the tide of battle.
You really think a culture of warlords that practiced, preached AND believed in dying on a battlefield would actually have ninja villages from day one ORIGINALLY? If I were as condescending as you, I'd say something like stop watching so much Naruto! BUT I like treating people like they deserve respect.
So, before you respond any further let me know if you are willing to drop that snarkiness and conversate with some maturity. If that doesn't work for you let me know before you say anything else so I will know to stop wasting our time.
@@hugejackedman3447 No ego to be humbled, just delivering truth to an arrogant fool disseminating false propaganda. Sounds like your sensitive fragility got the best of you. You are not a victim here, just an ignorant individual spreading falsehoods about Nin-shu. You sound like you got your commercialized interpretation from the National Geographic. Study the *real history and research before you come on here saying dumb shit.

oh my gosh this looks amazing - all the 80s and early 90s kids remember how cool ninjas were , everyone wanted to be one - so happy to have a ninja show coming back!
An old mate of mine who was a phenomenal martial artist dressed like one when he went after a gang who beat his brother up. He found the lads, hanging around in a park. There was a big wall that he was watching from the top of. He dropped down into the gang and battered all of them. I was outside the park when it happened and this lad came running out saying a 'f***ing ninja just came from nowhere and beat us all up'. Me and my best mate just looked at each other and said 'Billy'. That would be 40 years ago now. Funny thing was, they tried to get him done by the police. Went to the court and judge said 'did anybody get a look at his face'. Of course, nobody had.

I like the tone having some more of this family element to ground us. Music choices in the trailer were on point.

@@matthewsamuel1706 I had a search, and I couldn't find it! But, considering it's the same song throughout the trailer, cut up into stems, I would say it's probably a sync song - i.e an artist recorded it and it's been bought/licensed for this trailer. I hope the family has good chemistry; what amazes me more in the trailer is not just the action but there are some beautiful shots so my hopes for this to be good are high .
Ninja, Samurai, Yakuza, Mafia, Black Market, Underworld, These are interesting when done right. Not that romanticized drama to fit Hollywood standards.
Dude, they are all romanticized and this show wont change it..Samurais are portrayed far more chivalrous than they really are at times...yakuza are portrayed as honorable which sometimes is complete nonesense...There will always be a certain romnatization in the movie or tv show medium
Japan tries to brainwash the world thinking their culture is cool. Samurai are just mercenaries, yakuza selling drugs and hookers, ninja are low class assassins who mostly did filthy deeds. Nothing special about them.
@@UNSTABLE111 exactly samurai were busy betraying each other while the ninja were the ones actually sticking to their word.
As somebody who likes history shut up already, the more fantastical versions can be interesting as well and can coexist with the more grounded version, not everything has to abide by the standards of history nerds.
@@eatYoselfokay no, you have samurai who were extremely loyal and ready for self-sacrifice, more specifically they would have been the fudai samurai who followed their lord directly for generations.
Then you have Tozama samurai those guys were not under direct control of their lord to simplify they were basically a kingdom within a kingdom had a bit of their own autonomy and were less trustworthy but that's because they were more loyal to their own clans if a lord could not provide guaranteed protection they were more likely to switch side, this was done as a form of survival.
There were Samurai who were basically considered folk heroes by the common people.
Ninja was a job title, so Samurai could be ninja.
Holy crap, I needed more ninjas in my life and Netflix is delivering, big time.

There are recently talks of bringing Yakuza games and adapting it into a series. Btw there is already a Yakuza movie which was released in around 2006 or 2007 I guess which was produced by Sega itself. Pls do check it out
Granted, the actual Yakuza game franchise is fun/great, ..dont limit yourself to a mere movie-adaptation of the game. There is a wealth of great Yakuza-themed films from Japan. Yakuza gangster films even rival that of Scarface from the states.

This really looks amazing & good, not over the top, cheesy or unrealistic take on the Ninja, like so many 70's & 80's ninja movies portrayed, but bringing ancient traditions of a ninja to present day, while being able to see how these characters think and react to everyday situations, a sense of realism and character development. The cinematography, lighting, set design and costume design looks great.
I mean, literally everything about ninjas is a fabrication. Mostly pulled from Japanese theater from Meiji Era Japan. Hell, the black pajamas come from what stagehands would wear in Noh theater.

Seriously Japanese are way more ahead in giving content than kdramas and kmovies till date i don't understand how squid game is more internationally known and famous than Alice in Borderland
As a Japanese, the only thing I can say is that JPA companies are not good at promotion. They can make some awesom movies other than anime, but they lack the sense to make advertisements to promote them overseas, so many of them are not seen overseas. Then there is the problem of localization. It's frustrating, but I think Korean films have a great sense of localization as well as advertising, and know how to attract people.sry my broken eng.
@@善悪の基準は人それぞれ seriously they need to improve on advertisement more If done so nothing can stop them tbh there r a lot of talented Japanese actors who are not recognised internationally too
it's the hallyu wave. A government plan to push korean content internationally and it works.
On the other hand Japan is a closed market. They don't really care about selling their stuff overseas.
That's why they still stick to the old 30 fps / TV show color grading for their dramas because their audience are used to it and they don't want to change it for international audience (that's why it feels cheap but actually it's not).
But I've remarked things are slowly changing. They seem like they want to conquer international market nowadays as they multiply collaborations with the western producers (for the visibility).
So I hope for the future Japan would open their Cinema, Dramas, Music for the International audience because they are so damn talented and have many brilliant movie makers / actors / actresses and incredible Music Industry.
This I agree. The more famous Japanese are promoted overseas well, the obscures are heard through from friends and social media circles, you watch them and say why not this wasn't release here or there? It's frustrating.@@善悪の基準は人それぞれ
So true! Japanese movies always very original and out of the box ideas that cdramas & kdramas would never dare to have. Good writing, dialogue and characterization too. Even the cinematography and production value is improving recently too. Thankfully, we have fan translators, but I just wish jdramas were on platforms like Netflix and Prime Video more.

I want more live-action ninja/shinobi content that isn't just in anime again. There's lots of controversy behind their historical accuracy, but regardless, they are the collest badasses in history, even if it's the fictionalized ones.
