Just what I was looking for. It blows my mind how people waste space on full-size MILS roads, especially when modular buildings themselves have pavements.

I have a Lego city on schelves because of limited space. The fun thing with having limited space is that you need to come up with solutions. And with those solutions your city is going to look different and unique.

Amazing I wanted to add road to my marvel buildings and space is a premium on my book shelf. I’ve been looking for ways to cleanly have a road plate surround the buildings but with an added curb that integrates with a Mils. Thanks so much!!

The newer road plates give the option of creating a one way road system in a town/city layout, which is ideal for those of us with limited space.

Very Nice idea ! Really liked it ! I am starting to have space limitations on my city... I think I will follow your idea ! Thanks - that was (as always !!) a very nice video !!! Please keep on with your city "migration" and share !

If you build your road plates on a 16*32 baseplate + 1 plate height, like you do with the 2x2 plates, then there is no need to add an extra stud of curb, as the road will come right up to the plate layer under the tile pavement of your MILS building baseplates. (in other words, the 2-plate height from the curb you add to your roadplates is the same as the MILS upper part). Thus, you can have your roads on an exactly 16 studs wide road. Or if you can spare the extra stud on each side of the road, I would advise to extend the road surface to accomodate 6-stud wide vehicules, instead of that extra curb.

Thanks! Yes definitely an option … the only caveat with that is if the MILS plate for the building is using non light grey plates then it will show if you don’t build up the additional stud wide length

@@artofmanslife Yes, that's why I make sure to use light grey plates for the front row of the buildings' MILS plates.

Awesome video man! I'm new to your channel and you've got some great vids! I really like how you're incorporating the new road system! I actually use both the old and new system in my city! So this is very useful!

Thanks so much! Means a lot! I was on the cusp of getting the old plates just before they announced the new ones so I held off glad I did purely due to the space… but I do like them

@artofmanslife yeah luckily I was able to have a few spare of the old plates. If you see in my city, I use the old plates in my downtown area, and the new ones in the suburbs of my city.

I've been converting my modulars to MILS. I'm using a variant that is built on 16x16 plates as the base instead of using a baseplate. I'm considering what to do with the roads -- part of the rationale for my design is to keep the height consistent with the new roads.
One idea I've had is to place the technic connector bricks on the studs at the edge to build the curb, reducing the road width by 2 studs. With your design, I would place 1x8 plate pieces along the edge, or possibly even 2x8to hide the connector pin details. I've not decided yet which one to go for.

Sounds like a great idea! Yeah the baseplate height really screws with the height planning as you need to replicate that height for anything next to it. Removing it removes the problem for sure

Great video, having a linear city on a shelf I have been playing around with the road plate hight and width myself. I have decided to go with the somewhat rare (but findable on Bricklink etc) 16 x 18 baseplates giving me the same width as you have. Roadplate directly on baseplate and curbs made of bricks not plates and finished with tiles. My issue was that not being enclosed I did want my MILS road to be conectable via technic pins, but obviously the technic bricks show their holes on the road side, in the end I managed to line up my technic bricks with the low, 1 x 4 studded areas of the road plate and placed a dark grey 1 x 4 panel (part 30413) in said 1 x 4 area, the back of the panel covers the technic brick and my pavement is dark grey so best I can come up with for now !

oh thats a good idea with the unique sized baseplates - had no idea they were around!
