- This is how unlock and delete the gm chevy gmc eeprom on a locked radio without the code
.
Gm endoded or programmed each radio specific to the vin of the vehicle it was going in. The dealer charges $150 to get the code and re-program a radio to a new vehicle. I also looked up several ways like pushing buttons 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 and called the 1-800-537-5140 number given to me and none of this worked my way should work on most gm GMC chevy saturn buick and pontiac radios with or without cassette from 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2001 2003 2004 2004 2006 Авто/Мото
Thank you! This actually worked for me! I've been trying to get a cd player into my truck and finally got one and it said locked I was pissed lol then i found this video and it actually worked my presets still work and everything
See that! I just posted a comment in your video before this one thanking you for the many tricks you show us that we can actually use and SAVE money with. And THIS was another one. Thank you and a very Happy New Year & Safe one for you and you entire family (at home the car lot)! Sonny (CT)
Thank you very much!
Who on earth is going around robbing mid 2000's GM cars for their radios?
Lots of people when they were newer. A replacement was $500.
@@johnnysouza5601 makes sense, there probably weren't many aftermarket radios back then.
@@1Thatstrangeguy there was but some people wanted all original dash. I didn't really understand it then. With today's infotainment systems I understand but not the stock 2000s gm radios
ill admit that a lot of aftermarket radios look really gaudy, i wish someone would come out with retro looking radios with dials and a physical needle but with modern electronics and bluetooth
@@1Thatstrangeguy what kind of retro are you looking for? They have those for most classic vehicles, 70s pickups etc. Look identical to original with modern technology
Thanks Craig been trying forever to try and get this radio to work did exactly what you said and it works fantastic awesome Channel thank you so much
Thanks Craig! Nice mod or "hack". Love it when people figure out how to get around things on the cheap or free. Love your channel!!!
What worked for you, pressing the bottoms or the other thing?
Omg thank you! Was so mad after installing newer version of old radio!! Now I have to do it all over again but at least it may work this time. Fingers crossed.
Will this work on the navigation versions of these GM radios too?? (Like escalade?)
Worked on a CD, tape player. Thanks man!
I wonder if this will work on a 03 Escalade with the Navigation head unit?
thanks for your nice info, and I wonder if we solder previous eeprom chip from old radio to new one then It may work properly?
Cool videos
Thank you Julio V
Stereos is a good hobby
Craig my tape player broke I use it for my phone the bluetooth cassette got stuck. Is it hard to replace the cassette part of the radio? You make it look easy to take out. How many screws and wires? I have another radio already that doeant power up anymore. I just want to use the cassette mechanism...do you you think this could work?
will all the other functions work after removing the chip? I have a used radio to go into an 05 silverado. I've already tried holding the scan forward and 5 button while pressing the power button on. The radio does turn on, but only the volume knob and tuning knob (not the seek or scan buttons) will work. The cd player also works if you insert a disc. I understand pushing these buttons is only a "test" mode. Just want to make sure all the other functions will work after I remove the chip (fader, balance, auto eq, auto vol, etc...)
Great video. Whatabout for '07 and up new body style?
Life saver!! Great video man
Do you know what chip I’d need to remove on a 2005 Chevy equinox radio?
Me sirvio mucho este video gracias desde Ags.Mexico
Thank you for this !!😁
If you know someone with a decent bi directional scanner, they can do the vin relearn for the radio. the only thing, when I used my snap-on scanner, I had to built a 2006 avalanche with the navigation radio for the radio option to come up. It still worked and that was done on a 2002 chevy s10.
Confirmed, worked in my Chevy Tahoe👍👍
Needed to look real close as mine doesn't have cassette, took out chip I thought was it after triple checking and voila it worked!
Amazing. This was the only thing that worked for me in my Chevy Sonic 2013. The chip was hard to find but I figured it out. 8 pin chip labeled EEPROM (next to the chip, not on it) The chip was in the same area as in the video but the board is layed out differently.
You saved me $150 on top of what the scrap yard charged me. Made my day. Cheers!
You think the EEPROM chip is on all radios with the lock feature, at least all GM vehicles?
@@jackburton2680 It's possible. Maybe not in the newer gen of vehicles but then again I'm no expert.
Great tip! Nice. Dunno why GM wasted their time even back in the day on locking the radios to the vin. I believe you can buy replacement knobs and buttons from Dorman for these radios...
If your taking the original stereo out and then putting it back in, do you have to have the code?
Very helpful 👍, thanks
It appears that the oem stereo from a 2003 S10 will work in a 2010 Colorado, they look very similar, is that correct?
Just did this on my suburban, badass bro 👌🏻
What year is your burban?
But didn't work on mine, no sound
Thanks! I can confirm that this works with the 2006 model without the tape deck for sure. The part is on a different part of the board. Bottom corner instead of the middle. But the part number was the same, except the first digit which was a 3 not and s. The eprom and neighboring components were identical. Thanks again!
If you had the original radio could you swap that piece from old to new and it work like it should
Yes, I guess I could
Does the calibration error effect radio performance?
Could you take that same part out and swap it if your getting a junkyard radio . Was told you had to get shop to do it cause you can't take one out and put one from another car and work .
Thank you 🙏🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥
Will that work for a 2006 Cadillac DTS?
Worked great thats awesome very easy
You got my like and sub thanks you
Anyone know where the eeprom is on a 2003 Monte Carlo 6 disc changer with tape deck?? I opened mine like the video and there's nothing that looks like the one in the video. I looked everywhere and I don't anything with that s code either. Thanks
I think it might have saved your presets, looked like you hit the band button twice and switched to FM 2.. thanks for the video!
How would you find the Eprom on a 2000 GM 09380152 radio?
Thank you very much it worked perfect
Does this work on the Escalade 04 digital headunit?
Worked for my suburban thanks
Will this help reset a new remote to the car? 2004 Chevy Impala. Thx!!!
I have a 2000 Buick LeSabre I looked inside the radio and saw no chip and now how do you unlock it because it doesn't light anymore
Why not use the eprom from the old radio? Would that work?
Can I take the face plate with the nobs and the board behind it and put it in my original radio on my 2003 Chevy Impala ???? As I bought one on eBay and of course it’s locked
Can the EEPROM BE exchanged from one GM radio to another?
Do you know on how to get the code and unlock a Hyundai car stereo Sir?
Does it have to reset every time?
Would the security lock on the radio keep my truck from starting
Would it work you that radio but the 6ce version
Any chance this works on a 2007 pontiac g6?
Love your videos Craig. How did you figure out (or know) how to get this radio unlocked?
A lot of reading into it and research
I yird this and it ficked my stereo up thanks man .
Mine too
Does it work on caddies 2000 2005 radios
The radio gets locked if power is removed. If the theft lock was set to secure radio. Should be able to swap into other cars no problem, and simply "unlock" it, by calling the 1-800 number and use a dealer code to get the unlock code. Then simply set up youre own security code, and when ever you disconnect battery in future, use own code to unlock. There are also a lot of scanners that have ability to program and set up these radios. The 1-800 number is meant for dealers only, but there are people here giving out the dealer codes.
Lovely, so I bought my factory radio to do this???
When it comes to a radio and GPS I have found that my iPhone 8 Plus actually does it all. It’s amazing how things have changed. Audible and Waze apps makes traveling easy.
Agreed
I don't see that eprong for my 2005 pontiac grand am radio. Maybe you can send a pic or another video, because my radio is locked and won't work
Question: If the eeprom chip in the old radio is the same as the new radio why can't you just remove the chip from the old original radio and use it to replace
the chip in the new radio? Old chip has the VIN number of the vehicle. Unless the socket for the chip in the new radio is different then it should work
did you get an answer for it? thx
Did it to an 2006 H3 stereo 6 disc pulled half the eprom out on it and it has zero issues .. remembers time presets and no errors.. crazy you saved my sister at least a hundred dollars!!! Get the factory monsoon stereo suns back.. dang it sounds good!! It’s a different chip number than yours.. but you got me in the right direction! Thanks!!
Still working? Putting in a new radio in mine now
What do you mean you pulled half of the eeprom out?
Say, does this shut off the theft lock to the vehicle
Worked perfect for me thanks
Does your sound work?
I tried it and my radio doesn’t turn on any more😢, could it be the fuses or what can I do?
ty sir it worked for me👌
It actually worked! Holy shit, it actually worked!
Not only is the radio locked but it's not even powering up there's nothing on the screen is blank how do you fix
Same
It worked. But now i have no sound, any suggestions?
Dude you are the man thank you ever so much it actually fucking worked I wasn’t expecting it to
What if your display shows InOP?
The gm line is not working???
Thanks 👍
Worked for me in my 07 silverado classic. However now anytime the key is in the ingition it dings, and even after I start the truck it dings about 7-8 times.
Dam what the number on the chip
Anybody know what that white mechanical pencil looking dial/nut is for?
This does work on all GM radios HOWEVER it can cause oddities. I did it to my locked radio in my pontiac and now everything works BUT it forgets presets everytime you turn it off, the CD button works intermittently but the CD works when you put it in every time. And the radio thinks theres a tape player now. So user beware!
It worked on mine but now I have no display but the lights are on
How about 05 chevy impala?
@@dannie0048 should be the same
2003 gmc seirra 2500 if that matters does not look the same or have same part number I guessed an pulled out of two that look the exact same as in picture and it worked but it won't look anything like his radio and isn't in same location
Thanks a lot I think I might try and solder my old one in swapped radio
Did u try it? Did it work when you swapped the old one
@@JENNBG0 sorry I never tried it
Does your sound work?
Still going to londonderry auction remember you from there
I'd tried doing this but my gm radio looks exactly the same as yours outside but the inside is completely different
That's when you have to be careful ... This video is for some models no for everything why do some youtubers make video and generalize about it ...they say this is for every gm radio and not
My radio came out of a 2003 impala and it's the cd/tape deck and the inside of mine does not look like your
Thank you
Can you just put the chip from your radio in the replacement one
Thanks Dude! We definitely owe you a beer!!
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THE CHIP WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE???
2010 Cadillac Escalade do same thing help
In mine with out the tape player just cd and xm the chip number was 9355093 worked like a charm great video
“It may not remember your statures stations”. That because EPROM stands for Erasable Programable Read Only Memory. In other words it’s designed to maintain the memory of the radio.
Will the EEPROM removal effect clock memory? That’s all I care about losing. Presets don’t matter.
@@reedharrell5279 I'm not 100% sure but I would think it would. If you know/think about the BIOS Battery in a computer this EPROM is similar. The BIOS Battery maintains the date, time, chipset, fan speeds, and others. The EPROM is maintaining similar information. So if there is not constant 12V to the radio the entire time then you will even loose your clock. Again I'm not 100% positive on this.
Great info. Couldn't you replace eprom from the old radio?
Hi Wayne. Did anyone confirm this? It is what I was thinking.
I used to refurb these radios. Buy a new GM most likely a refurb radio without you knowing.
I did that with electronics like those instrument clusters and abs modules. Half of the repairs were to already 'refurbished' boards.
Recently received my GM radio for my Monte Carlo ss from Factory radio. Doing your exact method wouldn’t fry this radio right?😅
Did it work
Ty so much for hack bro saver u the man
If you do this can you still mess with the security of vehicles?
i’m assuming it’s just the radio since if you take the radio out the security of your vehicle is still the same
Anyone knows how to know this ship in h3 2008 1 cd headunit
Well, you did the preset on fm1, when you turned it off and turned it back on, you went to fm2. So, of course it wouldn't go to 98.1 cause you saved it on fm1, not fm2.
That’s one heck of a catch dude. I had to screenshot it so that I could see the numbers LOL but you are absolutely correct.
What do I need to do if there is no sound got it unlocked video did me good but no sound
Did you ever figure it out??? Been scrolling thru comment and videos I’m not figuring out anything
Have the same problem no sound
Pushing the number 5, seek forward buttons while powering on also unlocks these radios and all functions work as they should..fyi this button method is said to be a temporary fix and eventually the radio will lock again and you will have to do the 5 seek and power on again
Thank you!!!
It works for a 2009 Chevy Trailblazer Lt 2. Thank you!
Just did it myself. Cassette deck works for cassette adaptor but CD is messed up
Did not work for 06 with cd player..
I understand you enter numbers into radio that by passes no start problem
I've replaced a few GM radios, my scan tool can unlock them no problem. I've never heard or seen this exploit before. Makes me wonder if the radio would be able to program a key fob. For GM cars that have key fobs, it can be programmed without a scan tool by using the DISP on the factory radio. I wonder if removing the EPROM (or is it EEPROM?) would interfere with that.
Oh! Dear ! Loooooool
What scan tool are you referring to in this case? Hopefully one that isnt 10,000
@@FredFlintstone21, I have a Launch X431 Torque, costed me about $2,300. HarborFreight sells one called a ZR Pro I think, sometimes it's on sale for $999. I believe that it's the same scan tool rebadged because the interface is exactly the same, and the input for the subscription key is also the same. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy a Autel Maxisys, which I probably will eventually. The X431 that I have is good usually, but sometimes it's a little buggy. I was able to program key fobs into a 2002 Impala, but not into a 2003 Impala. It was the scan tool's fault because I was able to program the fobs using the factory radio.
Does sound come out with the Cal Err code? I heard it takes a few weeks to learn the new vin. Did the Cal Err code ever go away?
