Holy crap just did mine on an 05 silverado. And it worked!!! Thanks man for the help no need to buy a radio now. I bought the truck with the radio locked. I thought i needed a new radio.
Hey man , thank you for this video , I bought this junkyard CD player for my 04 Trailblazer, did exactly what you did , work like a charm !!! you're the man !
To ANYONE still reading the comments, If you have Bose, installing a radio from a non bose truck will NOT work. Ive been working on these trucks for years. The radios are different. You won't have sound if you install a non bose radio in a bose truck. I tried everything in the past. Most suburbans and yukons with bose had the radio shown in this video. Some had a cd/cassette but was more uncommon. I'm going to be doing this later, so i will update the comment with my experience later.
It can and will work if u disconnect the harness to the amp behind the hvac lol ..trust me it will work all ur doin is bypassing the bose stuff and retaining the factory speakers except the little sub and amp😊
@@joeroe2839 no it won't bubba. I've been working on THESE trucks for 10 plus years. You CAN'T use a Bose radio in a non Bose truck, and you can't use a NON Bose in a Bose truck. No matter what you think. I've been there. I've done it all. It's not that simple. We're talking about OEM radios here, not aftermarket garbage.
Worked like a charm (sort of) I now have a factory 6 CD player in my 04 Silverado. only issue and it's a minor one is the volume isn't quite as loud as the original. I'd guess about 80% of volume of original Didn't hold the radio stations after truck was shut off for 1 hr
I've been screwing with radios like these for a few years. According to other sources if you only break 1 pin of the chip you removed (called an eeprom) which if I remember correctly is the top left pin if you're reading the number on top of the chip it will still retain station memory. I wound up doing a Y91 navigation option swap into my silverado. Surprisingly unlike the base/up level radios similar to yours, Y91 nav radios can be unlocked without a tech2 scanner. You can get knockoff scanners with GM diag equipment for roughly $120-130 on amazon
Gave it a try. Top left pin. Ended up with the same issues as some of these guys on here. Cant access c.d., "cal err" and no memory BUT radio works! Beggars can't be choosers
Go on eBay and order the eprom number. The new one is blank and will relearn to car vin with key on. And you will have all your presets and work like new.
Vehicle has to have had the same type( not "base" radio) of unit originally. Tried to upgrade a 2003 GMC van from AM FM only "base" radio to a CD /tape RCL unit. Unit will not power up with key "on". Has display functions only with key "off" after doing the "5-seek up- on" trick. Cannot retrieve the two 3 digit codes to give to dealer so that operational code can be given. Radio otherwise does not power on with key"on". Original " base" unit reinstalled and works with no issues per prior to swap.
I also have a base radio am fm. Installed a radio like the one shown in the video and it worked with all the issues people are complaining about. Don't know why yours didn't
@@willg2273 Ex rental truck did not have correct factory wiring to ignition to facilitate install. Have seen this before. Not my first radio rodeo. Cost 25 bucks by seller misrepresenting compatibility.
Worked on mine. The numbers on it didn’t match up but🤷🏻♂️. I knew as the radio was it was junk before and if it didn’t fix it, it was still junk to me 😂 i hate after market radios so this worked out better for me
I bought that same radio but not sure which chip I'm suppose to take out I have 3 possibilities. How did you obtain chip part number? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Try unhooking the battery I had to do that in my 2004 Grand Prix. Just so happened that my battery died and went 7 months without my not rejecting my CDs or taking any others. But once I hooked that new battery in they began to reject without me even touching the CD player
Got a 2013 GM similar issue. Do you know if U have to desolder the chip to get it off. My understanding is U have to replace it with the old one as it's a EPROM chip.
I had a problem with volume button and the CD player so I swapped the face plate and the CD player from one at a salvage yard and swapped on to my original radio so I didn't have to put in codes.
My 2004 Suburban radio turns on all the dials work including the volume, but I cannot hear anything. It was working when I was in the car and I came home for a few minutes got back in and guess what no sound can I get radio wiring diagrams, any ideas
Me an my father got one out of a junkyard earlier took it home plugged it in said locked done exactly what u did to unlock urs plugged it back up and it want do nothing now!
2002 Ford Navigator, radio work with lots of static . Can't get anything from CD . How do I get this thing to work, push buttons on screen nothing happens. What's wrong?

I have the same radio and I removed the chip and I still have to use a code and it turns off after about 10 minutes of play

I forgot as soon as you open the door it turns off the radio. Or wait 10 min and it shuts off automatically.
Just tried it. Have two radios like these was gonna throw them away till I saw your video
Worked for my 08' Envoy different numbers on eeprom but same exact location.
Gracias buen video me sirvió de mucho salí del problema

I’m needing the same info for an 04 suburban. Did you ever find how to verify the chip number?

11:59 I heard (Believer by imagine dragons)
You need to put the chip of the other radio! Of course if you have other gm radio!
Did your front speakers stop working? I followed instructions and the front speakers don't work now only the rear ones do

Omg!!! This was an absolute lifesaver and super easy!!!!
power button is the top one with no paint on it...power is constant for clock...
Me an my father got one out of a junkyard earlier took it home plugged it in said locked done exactly what u did to unlock urs plugged it back up and it want do nothing now!

Thanks man worked 👍
Did this and now I get error across the radio

couldnt you just pull the original chip from your orginal radio and then use it in the new better one?
My radio did remove the lock, but no sound on speakers
Same. Did you figure out how to get it to work?
2002 Ford Navigator, radio work with lots of static . Can't get anything from CD . How do I get this thing to work, push buttons on screen nothing happens. What's wrong?
