Best Countdown to date! I’m glad to be your friend Shaun and glad to see you improving so much! So proud of all your content! Glad to kick your butt once Splatoon 3 is released 😝😊🤣🤣
Love seeing you mention TRG and Masae! Honestly, I would love to see an official video with you guys together. Hopefully, MAGFest will be in person in 2022 (hope to be there as well).
I was definitely not expecting number 1 to be what it was, but it is a fantastic game. I didn't think I'd find a game from that genre that would be fun! Glad to see a countdown from you again, hope life is treating you well!
First thing first, I miss your videos, the mix of your type of humor and detailed analysis is just amazing, welcome back! Secondly Holy shit I did not expect cyber sleuth on the list, as for hacker's memory (aka the side story instead of a sequel?) I haven't actually finished it, but the story's gonna make you cry, especially at the end when you grow up with the og Digimon (aka the Japanese dub one)
10. Great. BTW I'm also guilty, I haven't played any of the DLC because I don't see the difference between it and the normal game other than a different character. 9. You're right! We actually got 4 generations of Pokemon in the 2010s! Anyways, I can definitely agree that gen 5 was epic. I liked BW1 more than BW2 but BW2 were still a lot of fun 8. I agree, I am much more of a Nintendo fan. BTW I don't have any interest in Digimon. 7. For some reason I thought it would be Kid Icarus Uprising, but this is good too. I preferred Epic Yarn though, but I won't judge you 6. Yup, we all knew which game would make the list. I personally think this game is good but I REALLY hope we get another traditional 3d Zelda soon. BTW I was expecting you to bash on Age of Calamity when you brought it up. 5. Never heard of it 4. There we go. That's the entry I expected to be #7. Then again when I realized #7 wasn't this game I realized "Of course this game is going to be higher than THAT." 3. Great! 2. Indeed. BTW Chuggaaconroy's LP is also one of the things that got me into the game (well that, and the Gaur Plains stage in SSB4) 1. A good game
My top 5 would be Infamous second son, hat kid, hollow knight, epic mickey 2 and of course smash top off the top if my head, Keep up the great work Chaos
Black and white two totally get a chef's kiss in my books! Great story, New areas, and OUTSTANDING music! Team Plasma's grunt battle theme is probably the best song in the whole game!
Tbh tdx is better than rtdl in my opinion: Better bosses Hypernova Better subgames Better copy abilities with the exception of circus I'll admit that was dumb More original story
Makes me happy to see Xenoblade in the top 3. It's a great series that I'm happy has gotten recognition in recent years. Its been one of my favorite series of all time tbh. Imho tho I'd have to pick Xcx on the Wii u as my fav entry as surprising to xenoblade fans as it may be. I won't give a whole spiel on why I love it, but as corny as it sounds it genuinely changed my life as the avatar system paved the way for interacting with the community and their own avatars with stories. I've opened up way more than I ever thought just by making friends thanks to the game and improving on my struggling creativity as well and I'm forever thankful Xenoblade Chronicles X could bring people together as much as it did.
I agree, XCX deserves more love. Almost nobody I've seen prefers it over XC1, XC2 and BOTW. Personally, I like the world, music, story & combat of XCX more than BOTW yet BOTW is constantly heavily praised while XCX feels forgotten. I wouldn't be upset about it if we could finally get a port or a sequel or anything substantial. Even in Smash Ultimate the most it got was a few below average spirits...
Good list, a number of the games mentioned here are among my favorites. Have you had a chance to play Ys VIII or IX? Based on the stuff you have on here they seem like they'd be up your alley.
10: Ah yes, the game that Kickstarted the Indie Revolution (I’m sorry). I’ve actually played all 4 campaigns, and personally I’m caught between Shovel and Specter for my favorite. 9: BW2 kind of feels like an end of an era for Pokémon. Not only is it the last sprite-based game in the main series, but the PWT almost feels like a curtain call with how you can fight previous gym leaders and champions. I’m not saying that’s a good or bad thing, but it definitely gives off that vibe to me. 8: I actually just finished this game (and Hacker’s Memory) at the start of this month after starting it in mid-July. And I have to say that it’s a great experience. But my biggest takeaway from it is DON’T DRINK THE COFFEE! Also I discovered that if you leave the game in sleep mode, the Digi-Lab still counts the time into level grinding, which really helped me progress even when I was at work. 7: I’m honestly the opposite of you for this one: Planet Robobot is my favorite with Return as a close second. Though it has been a while since I’ve played both games, so maybe I’ll revisit them down the line. 6: The Switch really had a good launch with this absolute gem of a game. 5: I honestly haven’t played this one since I feel like Fire Emblem Heroes is a big enough timesink for me, but it definitely looks interesting. 4: I haven’t played this one either (mainly because I’m left-handed which would make the controls even worse for me), but I absolutely love the characters and writing. 3: I’m honestly not into multiplayer games that much, but Ultimate definitely kept my attention, especially with World of Light. 2: The main reason why I haven’t got into this game is because of its length. If Digimon Story took me just under 2 months, I can’t imagine how long it would take me to beat this game, let alone the sequel! That being said, both their stories are pretty amazing, and the gameplay looks pretty satisfying. 1: See number 3 for why I haven’t got into this series, but it’s nice to hear how much this game has impacted your life. As for my favorites, I’ll admit I have a hard time making an actual list for them, but my #1 favorite is definitely Pokémon Sun, mainly because it got me back into Pokémon after I fell out during Gen 6 (mainly due to me not getting a 3DS until 2015). And while ORAS definitely helped, Gen 7 truly brought me back, and it’s actually the main reason why I kept using my 3DS until Sword and Shield came out. Overall, it’s great to have you back, man, and I wish you a great rest of the decade.
Despite not talking to you as much as I used to, I'm glad you're my friend buddy. Maybe one day we can collaborate again and have it not be shitty as fuck.
My top 5 of the decade. 5. Portal 2. It’s such a great puzzle game with entertaining dialogue and a great sense of personality to it. The puzzles are fair and its such a well put together game. It’s a shame Valve can’t count to 3 though. 4. Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy. Crash 1-3 were some of the first games I played so I almost died from hype overload when it was announced. The games aged like a fine wine and the games are still well designed and fun. It’s a worthy blast from the past. 3. Undertale. Undertale is a fantastic indie masterclass. The characters are fun, gameplay is innovative with its bullet hell mechanics and the music is godlike. It’s one of the few game I played that made me cry because of the heart this game has. 2. Persona 5 Royal. P5R is the best JRPG that cane out this decade. The story is superb, the characters are well written and just fun to be around. The music is too damn good. It’s a JRPG that bleeds with style and tight gameplay. Some honorable mentions are Sonic Mania, Cuphead, Dragon Quest 11, Forza Horizon 3, Rivals of Aether, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, and the Stanley Parable. 1. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. It’s a game that I love so much. The characters are all great in their own right but it’s that design philosophy of quick matches that sells it. It’s the game that I have played the most because it’s that damn fun.
I have a lot of things to say about the Kirby entry on this list, but before I get to that I should probably mention my other favorite games of this decade. Portal 2 is my favorite game of all time because of its clever puzzles and incredible writing, Mario Galaxy 2 is my favorite Mario game and platformer with its really good level design and mechanics, and Celeste is my favorite Indie game with some of the best level design in a 2D platformer, tight controls, and an immaculate story that does a great job touching on depression and anxiety. Now with that out of the way, let’s talk about Kirby. As someone who’s learned to love Kirby ever since I first beat one of the games, Return to Dream Land is very good, but it’s pretty far from my favorite. While I enjoyed my time with the game, the later games just do things a lot better imo, especially with the remake out now. Base RtDL miiight beat out Triple Deluxe, but even then I wouldn’t say TD is in RtDL’s shadow at all with its own solid level design, one of the best line up of new abilities in the series, and probably the single best Dedede appearance outside of Forgotten Land even if Hypernova is a pretty mixed gimmick. Robobot absolutely clears RtDL imo thanks to it having the best level design in the series to date, a REALLY fun speedrun mode, having such a damn cool ending, and the Robobot Armor being the best gimmick in the series by FAR. Even Star Allies beats out RtDL in a category that’s become incredibly important to me: the post game. This a category that base RtDL absolutely flounders in with the weakest secondary playthrough of modern Kirby and a kinda whatever Arena and True Arena. Meanwhile, Star Allies has the best Speedrun mode, the best Arena mode, and the second best post game mode in the entire series. In fact, I actually put Epic Yarn and Super Star Ultra above RtDL too thanks to the charming style and cozy feel of the former and the latter just being a great update to an already really solid Kirby game. I’ll finish this Kirby dump by saying that I still really like RtDL, especially it’s main game. There’s just a bunch of other Kirby games I like more.
My top 10: 10. Dishonored 2 9. Wolfenstein The New Order 8. Super Smash Bros Ultimate 7. Devil May Cry 5 6. Gears 5 5. God Of War 4. Red Dead Redemption 2 3. Final Fantasy XV 2. Doom 2016 1. Bioshock Infinite
My Top 5 is 5 Splatoon 2 ( After a long time play online shooters it’s just boring to me now ) 4 Uncharted 3 ( I played every uncharted game and I loved every game but 3 is my personal favorite) 3 Undertale ( I love playing indie games and a some don’t get enough Recognition that they deserve ) 2 BOTW (I love me open world games and the freedom it gives funny enough I never owned many Zelda games I own windwaker and Majora‘s mask ) 1 Xenoblade Chronicles ( I can go for a full essay on why this game is my favorite of all time but to keep it brief the story had me hooked for the entire adventure and playing it on the Wii when I was 13 I got the game late 2014 on Christmas it blew my mind and hell I did cry at some points but now playing the DE as a young adult I still cried a few times..)
My top 10 games of the 2010's 01 Smash Run on 3ds 02 Smash Ultimate 03 Rivals of Aether 04 Kid icarus Uprising 05 DK Country tropical freeze 06 Freedom Planet, 07 Mario 3d World, 08 DK Country Returns 09 Sonic Mania 10 Shantae Pirates Curse
Well, yes, Shovel Knight *was* gigantic in the indie gaming community. I don't really thing it was the giant push that thrusted it towards greatness. There were many other games around it's time that were similarly great and influencial. Also, if you haven't *play Cave Story and/or Hollow Knight!* I have a feeling you'd like them, as they have a lot of similarities with Shovel Knight along with being indie darlings.
If I had to pick my top 3 games from and played in the 2010's, they'd be digimon cyber sleuth, spiderman PS4, and breath of the wild reasons for cyber sleuth: cemented my love for the digimon franchise, fusion gave me interest even though I still see it as a weird show, rearise provided a taste, but cyber sleuth gave me the full course meal. Since I had no interest in sword and shield during that time (and still don't to this day) cyber sleuth did a really good job curing the monster collection itch by tenfold reasons for Spiderman PS4: it was the first game I ever gotten for my first non Nintendo console in a long time, it had a lot of strengths and it made me feel good actually branching out from just nintendo ... and this is from someone who grew up with nintendo, still remember my first console being a SNES that my grandma currently owns. reasons for breath of the wild: it was a damn good game, it had godly moments, and that sound track ... it's just so godly. so glad I was able to get a switch on the launch day
I heard that remix of the battle theme from Smash, and I knew which Pokemon games it was. I love the Gen VII games. ;) Edit: My disappointment is immeasurable. Don't get me wrong, Black and White 2 are amazing, but they still stuck to a plot formula that while works, has been admittedly getting stale, with X and Y easily serving as the final nail in the coffin for that formula. Edit 2: Once again, I ain't surprised Fusion helped revitalize interest in Digimon in the West. And come on, his avatar says it all.
AWWWW SHAUN! I LOVE THIS! I'm so glad to have you as a friend my dude! this turned out really good!!!!!
It's so nice to see another chaoskey countdown

Honestly the story with the last segment was really heartwarming. Great work dude.

A mention for me is fire emblem awakening. This game helped bring the fire emblem series from the brink of death and brought it into popularity.
Good list, a number of the games mentioned here are among my favorites. Have you had a chance to play Ys VIII or IX? Based on the stuff you have on here they seem like they'd be up your alley.

I'd add yakuza 0, but I played that after the decade ended, but it still introduced me to one of my favorite franchises
While it may be late, it just neans you had more time to consider your choices
