- Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Tuesday that they’ve identified a boat of interest in a fatal hit-and-run near Key Biscayne over the weekend. It’s since been taken into investigators’ custody.
What kills me is that folks pull skiers on a busy weekend. My boat doesn’t get put in the water on any holiday weekend. It’s a madhouse w/ errors in judgement. Recipes for disaster.
Wondering which was the new to boating, sounds like both. The one who did the hitting, odd they didn't give a description huh...
Yeah no way. A person in the water can be hard to see, they might not even know they hit her
@@beckyboo1433Exactly. I just commented the same thing. Most likely didn't see her and didn't know they hit her
Don't they have a flag or something for a person down in the water?
Facts but people want to party and have a great time until disaster strikes.
I bet that boat doesn’t have any drugs or alcohol on it now
Check for fingerprints, any videos, and witnesses who saw the driver of the boat.
And if the driver was intoxicated, that evidence is gone.
@@juniorkawai6131 Probably not hard to pin down, Rich kids borrowed daddies boat for a day of drinking and joy riding. That's usually the typical for FL bays.
@nikushim6665 Rich people have ruined Florida. I remember when Florida was affordable and fun. Yeah we had a lot of drug traffickers but they loved Florida and kept it clean and safe.
@@nikushim6665 Like the morons that emptied garbage from daddy's boat into the bay? Or the douchebags who hooked a shark and dragged it at full speed while videoing it suffering?
A boat that size could hit something without knowing it. Boat pulling a skier has liability to protect the skier.
O yes it could you
It is like story that Cicero from ancient Rome was defender for two boys plying ball on some area where barber shaved his client beard. Accidentally ball was hit barber knife in his hand.Sorry, but barber's client was killed. So prosecutor had asked for death of two boys. But case was dismissed against them and jury found barber guilty because jury said it was barber responsibility to protect client.
Yup easy

They definitely knew, that's why they tried to run.

I will not be caught. I stole the boat.

@@westcoastwaterman Wow
You knew the person who did this, was wealthy.
If it had been someone poor, they'd have their mugshot up for us to see.
How many poor people do you know with 4- engine boats?

Those four engines cost as much as a Ferrari. Imagine the gas bill.

Yup. Two separate justice systems. One for wealthy folks and one for the rest of us.
I have a sailboat in Florida and it's crazy down here. I would bet that the person at the helm never knew they hit someone. I'm so sorry for the family's loss of such a beautiful daughter.
I’m a towboat captain on the Great Lakes. It’s crazy everywhere!
Towing a skier in a high traffic area is stupid.
The victim is most likely related to the stupid boater so no real loss to society
It’s Florida.
If that girl was just bobbing n the water with just her head showing then it would be reasonable to believe that the boat driver didn't even see the girl and had no idea it ran over someone.
Especially if the driver was drinking, which I bet is why he didn't stop.
@@ralphholiman7401why would you stop if you didn’t know anything happened?
@_wacci , I guarantee they knew, no matter what they say.
We’ve had a couple scary situations when towin a boarder & boats getting too close. That’s why we make sure the flagger on the back in paying close attention & waiving off anyone coming in too close. It will be interesting to hear the boats side & whether they saw any flags notifying them of a person in the water or if they were just completely oblivious or impaired to avoid the hit.
@@ralphholiman7401 Please, with your vast knowledge, explain to veryone how the pilot of a boat that size would know if they hit someone's head.
Crap like this is exactly why I do not get out on the boat when it's a weekend or holiday. Too many idiots drinking and making poor decisions when it comes to navigating on the water. No place on the water is safe on these days unless your in a shallow skiff in a foot of water where larger vessels cant navigate!

Exactly, im fortunate to be off from my job on Mon & Tue, what a pleasure to cruise and or fish like i own the water to myself.
Who was towing her? Why would you waterski or board in such a busy location. I doubt the big boat even knew they hit someone.
The Ski boat is supposed to throw a flag out when a skier goes down.
It's hard to see downed skiers in the water . The boat pulling the skier has a responsibility to signal downed skiers .
The boat that hit her probably never saw her .
Was thinking the same thing.
Probably never looked for anyone in front of him either

@@49erDiner Go out there and throw a basket ball in the OCEAN. See if you can see it when you are on a boat that size. They didn't see her.
I'm from Miami. Born and raised. I assure you that is exactly what happened. The driver for sure had alcohol in his blood when this happened. That's why he booked it and just take the manslaughter charge when it all comes down to it. BUT the driver is now going to prison for years at least.
@@angelalmaguer311 no I assume it’s alcohol and that’s why fled. Shoot at this point it may be hard to even prove who was driving boat if they start playing games.
Did the tow boat have a skier down flag displayed? That question hasn't been answered yet. That's how other boaters know to stay clear. It's nearly impossible to see everything in the water.
Actually a lot of boaters dont .
@@thomasbreen3644 Let this be a lesson that they should then.
@@thomasbreen3644 Yea I've noticed that too. I've been boating since I was a kid. Those boaters are going to get their skiers killed. Which is what I think happened in this case. The captain likely has no idea that he ran someone over, and if that's the case I honestly wouldn't prosecute him. That said there are plenty of scenareo's where it could be this guys fault. We don't have any footage to prove what happened.
No
This is terribly sad, my condolences to her family & friends!!
The boat operator probably never saw her and didn't know they had hit anything....Hard to prove otherwise....
Their actions after the incident will show whether they knew or not. And the cell phones of everyone on board will be seized and searched for evidence. So we'll see but it could be very easy to prove.
Yeah - I'm sure he didn't notice much being blind drunk.
If he was alone. But, when the cops start sweating the other passengers in the grand jury, I bet they start vomiting everything that happened and that he said.
@mambi74 were you on the boat?
It’s hard to see things in big boats and hitting her could of felt just like a swell it’s still very tragic
Poor baby. So very sad. Praying for the family. ❤
It was probably an accident. She was in the water and anyone who drives a boat knows the front is pitched up to where you can't see low to the water in your close vicinity. Its not like they purposefully ran her over and was most likely an accident.
Agreed. It's super sad but likely a terrible accident. Probably a lot of boats out on the water that day
Exactly.
So you're gonna plow through someone and not even gonna feel a thing and just keep going? People got a description yet apparently no one went after him, why not? If he was going that slow seems they would have. Was he running away at high speed? Many questions remain.
Precisely, perhaps the driver boat towing her may be more at fault. Ya never know at this point!
I think it prudent to wait for the investigation before drawing any conclusions.
A boat that size with FOUR big outboards is intended for one thing - blinding speed, fast get-a-ways.
Lol blinding speed is definitely not what that boat is capable of.
what an absurd statement
@@dtcdtc8328 Take another look. It's a small boat, sits high, has very little to weigh it down. Four outboards. . . .
Fast get to's not get a ways

Let's get the whole story before we start putting this person in prison. It is not unusual for a boater to not see someone in the water and if it is floating debris in the area they might not have even heard it over the engine noise. If you are in an area where there are waves and other boat's wakes and your boat is slapping the water it makes the same sound as if you hit something. Like I said wait for the facts before you convict this person.
So what then?
I highly doubt he didn’t know he hit someone in the water. Regardless it was a accident which is understandable but what if that was your child? Would u be saying the same thing? Probably not
Now that they have a possible suspect vessel, all they need to do is track the owner's mobile phones, GPS, etcetera and check where the boat was at the time.
Seems easy enough to prove or disprove. I agree, wait and see.
@@walterdiaz7315 You could hit a person twice her weight and not feel it in a large boat like that.
@JoeGator23 that boats navigation will show exactly where the boat traveled.
Wow not only this is brutal way of going out but she was only 15 and it so happens to be on mother's day man that's crazy may God bless you and be with your family through this tragic times
Tragic , but the fault lies with the boat operator towing her.
Was there a spotter, with eyes on her at all times ?
Likely there was not , if they are looking for witnesses to this accident.
possible the large boat driver may not have been attentive and didn’t notice y over the girl. very sad. Water skiing in congested waters is not a good idea.

@@Plutogalaxy I don't blame the victim. I blame the her captain. They were skiing in the ocean in 1 to 3 ft seas. The didn't see her or hear people yelling.
Who can just see someone in the water. It is not easy to spot someone.
What about the boat with the tow rope that was presumably near her? Hard to see that boat too? Sorry not buying it. If you're operating a boat and you can't see that you're going to run over someone then you are negligent and responsible for their death.
Some states have flag laws or rules, when someone is down the towing boat has someone hold up a flag.
no one is talking about what happened..did the tow boat do a circle spinning in front of the boat? no one is saying how this happened as a water ski person you have control there are more questions then answers here and this boat may not have even known they hit her...
Prayers for the family and friends so sad
Love how it takes 3 people to introduce a story.
Oh so sad & tragic. Most likely since that poor child was in the water the boat could not see her.
The boat didn’t stop because maybe the driver didn’t know he, she, it, you, we, they, them hit someone? Might be an important detail in the report since one is innocent until proven guilty, but that’s not the news today…imply it was a hit and run gets more views
It’s a very good possibility that the large boat didn’t see the young lady in the water. They would have heard their vessel hit something in the water, however.
In choppy 1 to 3 foot seas all you hear is loud smacking against the hull and possibly the 4 outboard engines.

No chance of getting a DUI blood test result now..... but this boat had others on it too so will need some witness interviews from the passengers.
Depends on what was in his system. Coke, weed, and other drugs stay in your system a lot longer. A simple blood test will show anything.

As a boat owner they may have not even known they hit her its possible to have music going and not even seeing her or knowing that she was even there!! Tragic
Investigators with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Tuesday located a boat in Coral Gables that they say struck and killed a 15-year-old Ransom Everglades student off Key Biscayne’s Nixon Beach last weekend. The boat was docked on Tuesday behind the home of Carlos and Magaly the homeowners in the Gables waterfront neighborhood of Hammock Oaks, which abuts Matheson Hammock Park and is just south of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. FWC investigators seized the boat Tuesday afternoon; they have not identified the boat’s driver. (Miami Herald)

most likely just an accident. dont ski in heavy traffic on a holiday.............RIP
Maybe don't boat at all on a holiday or be extra vigilant.
I'm a boater myself. There is no need to drive at more than 25 mph in the intracoastal, or in the bay. Even for your own safety if not for other. Maybe slower in high traffic areas
She was not in the intracoastal or in the bay. If you look at the footage of the boat she was on you can see they are in the ocean. I have never skied in the ocean in 2 foot chop.
lmao
KEEP YOUR CRAPPY BOAT SLOW AND YOUR MOUTH SHUT!
When ppl are doing watersports you always stay back or if u pass do it with common sense in a wide area
The boat driver will most likely not face any charges. 4 engines, loud noises, and the girl submerged in the water. It was a freak accident. She may not have seen the boat coming and the driver had no clue.
It wasn't a freak accident, it was a driver not paying attention. We see it all the time, especially with the big boats, they just expect everyone to move out of their way and they don't pay attention. I can't tell you how many times we've had idiot boaters come right up behind our person on a wakeboard. There's a whole wide intracoastal, but no they have to pull right up behind the skier. When you see someone on a ski or wakeboard, don't get behind them, it's not a difficult concept. One idiot even ran over our ski rope at full throttle as we were stopped waiting for the skier to climb back into the boat. It caught his motor and spun our boat around 90 degrees before it popped off the motor, super super lucky no one was in a position to get wrapped in the rope as it snatched tight. We had been stopped for a good minute, there's never any reason to come that close to another boat going that fast. Just sooo many idiot boat drivers, it's amazing, and getting worse every day.
Both of you guys are right. Could be a good driver who missed seeing the girl (sun glare, maybe the tow boat didn't have a flag waiving etc) OR, the driver of the suspect boat was an idiot. Both options are on the table here.
@@jonesjones7057 I don't know how anyone halfway paying attention could miss a full sized adult on skis, it's very obvious.
@@8180634 was she on skis or in the water? I thought she was in the water after having fallen. I agree ON the skis, missing that would be outrageous.
@@8180634 Lol, your personal experience is not facts. Do not be surprised if the individual has the charges dropped and the walk.
The “adult” is a teenage girl who is petite in size. She is submerged in water. The boat that struck her is large, the drivers cabin in pushed back and the bow of ship is long. Right there creates an inability to see what is below by a couple hundred feet. It is also very possible that this particular boat was what is deemed a traffic boat area and heading out or in.
The girls own crew probably brought her into a heavily trafficked area. Maybe they were crossing and she fell in a bad area.
Why do these parents let their kids go out on drinking trips and I'm sure they knew what was going to happen on that trip. Time to say no to your intittled teens
could easily be a simple accident, but that's why you don't waterski in a busy waterway and why you are supposed to wave a big red flag if you do.
More likely this happened because of poor judgement/piloting by the operator of the ski boat. Anytime a skier goes down the ski boat should make a hard u-turn and return to the skier in the water. Betting that was not the case here. Best not to engage in watersports activities in congested areas...most of the boaters have no clue and that is a fact.
This!👍
I have always seen it as playing in the street. I went to crab island and had the responsibility of boat guy. The carelessness is of the charts but partnered with normal amounts of over the top drunkenness in the water. People are DAAARRRUUNNKK out on those boats. I played in the shallow water but people swimming deep look like they were playing with their lives. Once you get away from the main group of obvious danger people don’t move away from the party slow. They go for speed.
It definitely makes sense what your saying.
That's all very true but it was a hit and run. So no matter what ski boat did wrong if the ski boat did something wrong there was somebody in the water and somebody ran her over and killed her. And left. If that was the truth then the person that ran her over should have stopped. But I would be willing to bet you that there was alcohol involved they were wasted and they didn't want to go to jail.
@@kurtsaxton823 it's not a hit and run if they didn't know they hit anyone. That big boat definitely wouldn't feel anything from hitting a human. This was a tragic accident. I don't see any crime here. They may not even know if they hit the girl unless they were drunk or high I don't think they're even responsible. Yes it's the most horrible tragic thing imaginable but that doesn't make them to blame.
I knew it when this story broke. "Large center console with bottom paint and 3 or 4 outboards heading west from Nixon" I knew it would be found in the Gables waterways. House was pretty easy to find on google earth based on the air video of the boat. No proof yet this was the boat, only a suspected boat. House is in a nice neighborhood that's for sure. But being well off and owning a boat that fits the description doesn't mean guilty.
I've had boater's comment that they couldn't see me in a 17' bright green kayak. The tow boat is the skiers only protect when you go down.

Pictures of the area at the time will be really helpful because, in these larger vessels, it's not always the owner who is operating them or even present. It's often a friend or a leased guest. The waterways here have become so crazy with boaters. Nobody is respectful and most are driving recklessly.

I don't think they did. Two middle aged doctors leaving the scene and/or drunk. I just don't see that.
This happens not only in Key Biscayne but all over the USA where boaters are buying larger and faster boats.
