Always doing interesting stuff over there. You guy remind me of Penn amd Teller sometimes, Jim is always talking away and Jess comes in silent and gets the big laugh. That ending is the stuff of viral videos right there!
That's an interesting system. Some questions from the off grid cabin in Ontario Canada. How do you handle the effluent? Are there holes in the bottom of the barrels? Who is assigned the clean out job in a few years? In this neck of the woods, that type of toilet box is known as a "Thunder Box", has one hole, no barrels. When the hole is full, the box is removed, the hole filled with dirt, and topped with a newly planted tree. The box is relocated to a new hole. This alleviates the "discussion" as to who is going to clean out the barrels. LOL They can only be used in permitted areas. Congrats on your approval, and one step closer to your new home. We enjoy watching your videos. Glenn and Maureen
Thanks Glenn and Maureen! There are no holes. The idea is to keep everything contained. I'm not a huge fan of this system and actually prefer the one we're currently using which is based on the Humanure Handbook. I definitely recommend that as a read.
Great video Jim and Jessica! I love Jim popping out of the toilet at the end, that was awesome, you two are always full of fun. We have thought about a indoor composting toilet at times because we only have one bathroom/toilet in our house, always have. It was tricky with all 4 kids at home years ago, even when people come over, holidays or getting ready. It's something to think about.
I can't hardly wait to see your house, I wish I could get my wife to let me come spend some time helping with your new house build sounds a lot better than wintering in Idaho.
Nice job guys. Counties can be funny, can’t they? Glad you’re getting right with “the man.” It will save you a lot of grief later ... take care and have a fantastic weekend.
Congratulations on the approval Jim and Jessica! Nice job getting that done. And good work on the the three banger toilet build also. That thumbnail...LOL!
Great video & info, thanks, we're in Cochise County, too. Quick question - we're being told we need a "urine diverter", if we want til install a 3 bin composting system, however, the 3 bin system video on Watershed Management Group didn't have one either. County ok'd w ufone going into bucket, please? Thanks very much..
Came up a little short did ya buddy? Jess sits perfectly on it. If'n ya be nice she might get you a booster step. LOL. I was thinking this whole time you was putting a septic tank in the ground. That is wild they put you through such a run around for barrels. Keep up the good work and have a great weekend folks!
Lol! Thanks CB! Yeah my next project will be the booster seat.😆 This is only one part. I still have to put something in the ground. It's a small system though.
Too funny at end 👍🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽👉👉 to the outhouse good job .. Now I grew up old style outhouse it was a four hole .. Man-women-child- Child they were designed for different sizes .. Jim I think you need a small riser for you 😉 fantastic job .. Looking forward to more are your muscles 💪🏼 sore yet? ✌️☮️❤️☮️👍
Lol! Thanks Brenda! So you had an outhouse when you were younger. That definitely must have been an experience. Hopefully we won't have to use this much.
Hey Jim, could there be some type of pipe coming off of the barrel, so when it gets so high you could use the pipe to drain it to something in back and then use it for fertilizer?
yall are superheroes, u make everything look so easy! just watching ur signal boost installing the other day and now this im like oh no.. i'd definitely mess that up somehow/need help haha
"You want a little privacy when your doing your *business* in the middle of nowhere." I never knew you were a *businessman.* Looks like a great place to do *paperwork.* lol 😂😂😂😂
That's a good video. You sure going to be able to pet your pet cows when they walk to the you. It's heated during the summer and cooled during the winter. No cup holder or magazine rack. Have a great day.

Really that's what the county wanted you to have, now it's a party, now everybody can do their business at the same time, lol : ) please pass the roll down
Lol twerkin while you're workin! Thats what I do when I'm doing chores!! Jam out to some music!! Nice system!! I bet it'll get cold when you gotta go in the middle of the night! 😬
Are you going to add a roof? I know you don't get rain for most of the year, but I recall seeing snow on the ground there last year. And then there are the freezing temperatures during the winter.
I love this idea! What about, grey water? How is that handled? Oh never mind. You addressed that in the beginning. But what would be concidered a small septic?
The small septic that we have is a 55 gallon barrel used strictly for sink water. In Arizona it's still considered black water. This is the video that explains a bit more on that. ruclips.net/video/1NP9Gel9mtQ/видео.html
that a lot fancier than the one we had back home, but ours did have a roof and door, no barrels though.. I'm kinda surprised with all the digging you all have been doing that you haven't dug up some of those cowboys that Wyatt Earp , Doc Holiday and some of the others buried out there in AZ.
Probably should put some solar led lighting under the top of the box to help you see the rattlesnakes that find a way into and around your toilets. Also, how are you planning on emptying these? If you put nylon rope handles on your barrels, you could run a pipe through them and get Jess to help lift. Don't let them get too full. The waste will weigh 8-9 lbs per gallon. If you sink a piece of plastic culvert into the ground as deep as the barrels are, the earth won't collapse when the barrel is lifted for emptying, assuming that you are going to remove barrels for emptying. Removal for emptying would reduce the labor required to empty them.
Grats! And lol, that intor tune sounded like Kwaito... too close to home. And really SWEET that you went composting toilet, septics, unfortunately, has an effect on groundwater eventually. Just confused about a few things, like "insects". Covering material like sawdust = no insects, no odours, no issues? Joseph Jenkins for the win. Good book for sure.
Thanks Marlon! Yes, once the cover material is in place there shouldn't be odor. Insects might still frequent it. I think the flies are attracted to the water that gets put on it.
Ok Jessica comes in the last minutes, doesn’t say a word, and steals the show! 😂😂😂
Awesome job Jim! One more thing down! 👍🏻
Thanks Dominic! She has presence, doesn't she?😆👍
Green Dream Project For sure! 👍🏻

😆Thanks Josh! She knows how to work the "straight man" angle.😁
I was playing around with thumbnails and this ending kind of just happened. 😀
Your humor and realism is underrated and I love you for it.
I'm going off grid in Mohave County starting in September, love your videos man and good to be your neighbor.

Thanks Katie!😀
The toilets do come in handy. Cheap and they don't use water. Are they permitted there, or would it have been under the radar?
You always seem to have fun no matter what you are building
You have to have fun. It's what it's all about.😀
I can't hardly wait to see your house, I wish I could get my wife to let me come spend some time helping with your new house build sounds a lot better than wintering in Idaho.
Thanks for the thought Dan! I definitely love the winters here. It gets cold, but not too cold.
Thank you so much for this. If you only knew how incredibly helpful this was!!
That last 30 seconds reminded me of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street popping out of his garbage can LOL He was even green!
😆Lol! I never thought about that until now.
Nice job guys. Counties can be funny, can’t they? Glad you’re getting right with “the man.” It will save you a lot of grief later ... take care and have a fantastic weekend.
Thanks you two! We can't actually build the house until these things are inspected. We kind of have to build this.😔
Green Dream Project yeah, we know how you feel. OTOH, you’re inoculating against future “fun” with the county! Good luck.
Good job making sense out of an acceptable 3 barrel composting toilet that meets requirements on Arizona
Thanks William! Hopefully this meets the requirements. I couldn't actually find too much reliable information.
Green Dream Project if this works out you have pioneered the way for many
Thank you my friend
Awesome compost toilet system. You have the good skills of DIY.🤩👍🥰👍👫
Thank you so much!🙏
This is awesome. Except I would be afraid of snakes. Love the composting toilet idea!

Lol! Thanks Jay! We had all kinds of fun with this.😂👍
Hi guys good job. But I would have put the vent up and out side. As it not nice after a while. It is great with what you're doing out there.
One more project down! One step closer to house build... Jessica looked like a queen sitting on a thrown.
Lol! She did look regal.😀
Thank you so much for sharing this with me . I difintly think I'll be able to use this concept . Hi Jessica
Awesome Sherry! Very cool. I also recommend checking out the Humanure Handbook if you haven't already.
Thanks Jim for the entertainment to a not so interesting subject but very necessary.
Thanks Florie! I always try to bring the thunder.😀

Thank you so much!🙏
Congratulations on the septic system! How awesome!

LOL!!! You should have put that at the very beginning HAHAHAHAHA
That's a good idea! Missed opportunities. 😥
That is pretty cool! Hope all gets the approvals needed 😊
Thanks Zule! Fingers crossed. 🤞
Dudes! Congratulations. My property is in Yavapai and they are tough. I had to get a “professional” one, whatever that means....
You can pack the dirt from the pit between the barrels and the wood box. It will insulate it.
I just want to say “thank you” for not showing us it in action haha
😀Thank you! That's one of the reasons we chose Coshise.
No problem for not showing it in action, but you should have seen the other thumbnails.😆👍

Music makes the work go so much faster.😀🙌
Wonder if 3-barrel system is accepted in Apache County? Saw a similar setup with 2 barrels.
Jim, can you use a porta a potty?
Are you going to add a roof? I know you don't get rain for most of the year, but I recall seeing snow on the ground there last year. And then there are the freezing temperatures during the winter.
No, no roof. I'm really not too concerned about actually using this.😆👍

I agree, it was funny to see him pop up like that lol 😂😂😂

Meant to suggest extending the vents helps remove odors, as warm air rises.
Good job. Did you pass your inspection?
We're still a bit a way from inspection yet. Hopefully soon.

So you can have a composting system instead of a Septic in AZ? But it has to be 3 barrel instead of 1?
Instead of Jack in the box if Jim in the box, great video and update. What size septic do you to put in?
Thanks Michael! I'll detail the septic soon.😉👍
digging YES we need more rocks for the crop circles.
