Mega Man 6 - Plant Man's Stage

  • Next up, in no particular order, is Plant Man! Due to me going through the stages buster only, the only "order" I care about is going after Flame Man and Plant Man first so I can get the Power and Jet adapters. I do intend to use them to show various secrets and so forth in other stages, so having them is a must. I am basically taking the same sort of relaxed approach for the rules in these runs as I did in my Mega Man 9 perfect runs. Although none of the bosses are difficult enough in Mega Man 6 for me to warrant using their weakness on them (during their actual stage, at least).
Plant Man's stage is actually fairly long... Not long like Stone Man's stage from Mega Man 5, but long because there are many obstacles that slow you down. The biggest offender is the mini-boss (which there are two of as usual). The gorilla tanks are vey annoying to take down without robot master weapons as the only way you can avoid being hurt by them is to keep pushing them back with your shots. They do not get pushed back very far, though, so you spend a lot of time just shooting at them without any openings to actually DAMAGE them.
Plant Man himself is also a bit of a time waster as he likes to have his shield up most of the time. You can only get a maximum of two shots in on him each time he fires his shield away, so this can cause the battle to drag on for awhile. This is especially true without using charge shots as the buster only does 1 damage to all the bosses in this game.
    Enjoy!~

Funny how the Stage whose Boss gives you the Jet Adaptor is the one you'll probably need it the most. Seriously, this place is brutal.

Plant Man is easy, but his stage more than makes up for it. It's brutal.
People don't experiment with the Power Adapter a lot, mostly because the Jet is so shiny, but it actually has some very interesting uses. Fully charged, it can blow through shielded enemies like Mets, Shield Attackers, and even Knight Man. Also, it can send some enemies flying backwards, like the curling pucks in Blizzard Man stage and, most hilariously, Mr. X.

I was on a road trip a couple of days ago and this stage's bgm came up on my playlist. I had forgotten - or rather, never realized - how good the music was in MM6.

One of those levels where you wonder if you just become old or if this game is just brutally hard.

Don't say that Plant Man is a joke! Mr. X said these were the strongest Robot Masters in the world! And who are you to disagree! :p

Okay people...who is worse... Plant Man or Quint? I hate Quint WAY more than Plant Man, because, in all seriousness, I'd rather fight a flower that's actually capable of damaging me than a guy that just jumps on a pogo stick and nothing else. People make fun of Plant Man for a number of reasons when the REAL awful Robot Master was right in front of you in the Gameboy Mega Man games.

If this game had "Doc" stages, then Wood Man would definitely appear on this stage (because forest scenery).

6:19 I don't know...the Skull Barrier and Star Crash were pretty bad, too. At least the Leaf Shield didn't disappear after one hit.

From what I've heard of the Plant Barrier (in the comments, just now) it doesn't seem that bad. Skull Barrier was decent, but it did have ammo issues.

In my opinion either Jewel Man or Star Man was the coolest shield boss.

Of the six NES Mega Man games, this is among the best. Probably my second favorite adventure with Rockman 1.0 as it combines a lot of what I love about Mega Man. I love the weapons, the chargeable lemon cannon, the stages, the things Rush can do, and a lot of the signature Robot Masters. The most telling exception is Plant Man, of course. And even he has some things going for him. Never mind the fact that he's flower themed; I know some robot monsters are more cute than intimidating, but Plant Man is neither of those things, just silly looking. While the stage is mostly uninteresting, I do like the final third of it with those flying flowers and health fruits growing in the trees, as well as the flying hercules beetles and swamp pirannha. The boss fight can be kind of annoying at first since he runs at you and tries to jump on you, but once you catch on to the limits of his movement patterns, it becomes pretty easy. And of course, the Plant Barrier is among my least favorite weapons in the game, only able to attack an enemy if you get close enough, unless it dissipates upon contact with a bullet. But the real reward here is the Rush Jet. Sure you are unable to charge your weapon, but Mega Man is also a platform game, and the form gives you a jetpack. That is awesome! And for some reason, Tomahawk Man is weak to the aforementioned flowers for some reason. Maybe allergies?

The song in the background should be the song Plantman
