I'm playing some gigs with Ike Willis and have been showing my wife some of Zappa's work and stumbled upon this vid. You guys absolutely killed this tune! I'ma show uncle Ike tomorrow at the gig
I have listened to Live at the Roxy maybe hundreds of times and that trilogy can bring tears of joy to me. Your arrangement, musicianship and passion that you brought to playing this has elicited the same effect on me. I have to echo, that that I am overjoyed(!!) that younger musicians are keeping Franks music, not just alive but vital. Thank You!
I am a hysterical Zappa fan in that I am really REALLY into his music 24/7 as many other zappa fans are, and i simply LOVED this ! You made a great job out of this nearly sacred trilogy, and I especially appreciated the very "zappian" ending ! The whole 16+ minutes were energetic and passionately played. Also it's great to see younger generations picking up FZ's music. As I say with my nickname ever since he died : "ZAPPA LIVES on forever" also thanks to you ! Thanks a lot ! You deserve many more LIKES than you have. Only goes to show how desperate the music scene has become !
@@StrangeChangesBand As a Zappa fanatic I had the same thoughts and feelings watching this. You guys are amazing. Covering Zappa is a crazy idea almost nobody in their right mind would attempt. You guys pick one of the most complicated arrangements and nail it while improvising or modifying stuff here and there just like Zappa would do at a live show. I love the whole thing. Keep doing it.
It's worthy of attention thinking that none of these guys was even born when this music was composed and published. That says a lot about the composer, the music, this performance, these arrangements and these musicians. It's beyond a quick word what is needed to state what I'd like to state. Brilliant.
Wow guys. Just found this. YALL NAILED IT!!!! I had this playing in the background and 5 minutes in I had completely forgotten it wasn't Zappa. 'Don't you ever Wash that Thing" is really hard. Kuddos. Arf!
Holy Mozes...... I always search for FZ music, and now after all these years I found this. I am a HUGE Zappa fan and have almost all of his records and albums. This is the best interpretation of his music I ever heard. Zappa plays Zappa is a shame. There is no love in it. No passion, no feeling. And this clip has it all. FZ smiles in where ever he is.
I think you might be selling ZPZ a little short. I saw them live and they had plenty of passion and feeling, as far as I could tell. We can agree that this group here definitely haa it, no doubt!
Yeap, this is very much Frankish. Plus the variations in first half. The brass section is marvelous as as well as the unisono of brass/guitar/bass. Frank, who originally played drums would be probably happy with this “low profile” drummer. The bassist is good too and deserves to be more visible at least in super-wide angled (GoPro?) camera.
Hey guys, I think I've listened to Roxy and Elsewhere a thousand times (it's not an exaggeration), it's by far my favourite Zappa record, and one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. So I'm usually distrustful when someone covers or rearranges it, understandably worried they won't do it justice... BOY WAS I WRONG! You did a TREMENDOUS job, I'm speechless, my father (who introduced me to Frank) couldn't express how much he appreciated your work, he just kept nodding with approval! Much love from Italy
Every music course taught at uni/college should have a required final year course "The Compositions of Frank Zappa" - no pass - no paper LOL. This was tight guys !!
I'm 60 and this is one of my favorite Zappa pieces. Expertly executed guys. It's good to know that kids are working this hard, and have the chops and the passion to pull it off. I wanted to clap at the end. Kudos!
As a musician, I can tell you that took a TON of work. Also, I could tell some of you were gasping for air / energy mid-song. That's a marathon. Super musician power and endurance must be set on high. GREAT job!
Quel bonheur de voir la nouvelle génération s'en prendre au répertoire du grand Zappa avec autant de talent de précision et de plaisir.Bravo les d'jeunes!!
I come back to this video over and over because as a super-freak level fan of Frank's, this is such a perfect recreation of one of Frank's signature movements. Every one of these talented musicians has STUDIED this piece and mastered it. I can't thank you enough for taking the time and applying your amazing talents to Frank's scores. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Excellent! Don't You Ever Wash That Thing is an amazing and difficult-to-playcomposition - You guys pulled it off! Mr. Toro - great bass work, great tone - reminds me of Fowler's work with Zappa.
Great job!!! We all love his music and so, thank you for learning it, practicing it and playing it for all of us out there searching for another gem of his brilliance.
I can never get enough of people bringing so much passion and enthusiasm for Zappa's music. That was a sheer delight to watch you all perform that - thank you! I love the way so much energy was given to the brass, for me it's what makes Arf/Wash have such an impact. God that was excellent. Bravo!
Not an easy arrangement by any measure, but you guys handle this with ease. Well done guys. You do us proud, I will happily share this with others who also appreciate the master composer Zappa!
Great F'in work, more enjoyable to me as a 59 year old who has been seeing and listen g to Frank for 46 years, than seeing ZPZ. Love the horn section. All good.
Wow,well done guys: a really professional piece of work ;the 3songs perfectly performed to the notes and Master FZ would be more than happy to see his music played by a group of young musicians who could be his grandsons and who weren't even born when he died in 1993.Hats raised for an excellent work , there is a brilliant future for these chaps.
@@StrangeChangesBand yes you're right and l hope this nice influence by such a genius music maker will encourage you to create your own work as great as his music , I'm certain the name "Strange Changes " will one day make it to the top, because you've got what it takes to make it,good luck guys.
Huge Zappa fan here, I just found your video and I really enjoyed your tribute, very well done, excellent! Like someone said before: it's so encouraging to see young people playing Zappa so we know his music lives on.
Good version of this - one of Zappa's best. No big names, nobody you'd have heard of; just a bunch of music-school guys with love for Frank in their hearts and enough time to practice and get some very hard music pretty solid.
Absolutely stunning tribute to Uncle Frank! 👍👍👍👍👍 Hats & socks off, you guys. Was that a liitle teardrop that just rolled off my late great Uncle Frank's eye?
I love how you guys squeezed a bit of " Aproximate " into your trilogy lol ,the Aproximate noodling was my favorite part ,I'm wondering why nobody else caught it . Good shit guys .
That was really good you guys, excellent! Side 2 of Roxy and Elsewhere LP has long been a favorite of mine. It is so heartening to hear Frank's music performed and performed well. Thank you so much - that just made my day.
Nice performance! And arrangement. Some of my personal favorite FZ pieces. Has a great feel and energy that other people playing FZ's music forget to apply.
Great mix, i can feel the zappa vibe man, sounds like Chester is playing the drums, the growls with the synth and horns are spot on, lotta work, great band
