I have a request: can you do a video just like this one but with an “average person” (not a model), someone who doesn’t know how to pose? It’s obviously easier to work with someone who knows how to pose and is naturally gorgeous. 😉
Yesss i struggle with this a lot, ppl with experience are so easy to cooperate and work with but when someone is awkward with posing and doesn’t know how to im just not sure how to get them to become less stiff and pose better
I really appreciate that you put the settings you used when you show the picture... as someone just starting out in photography, it’s really helpful!! Thank you :)
@@britneebourne saw that actually, thanks... But I was wondering if she had some kind of tips or tricks based on her experience that she could share.. Apart from that video
@@violet_world9385 There are some weather conditions you shouldn't shoot in - for example in the middle of a tsunami or a raging forest fire. The threat to life is too high.
This is literally such a good video, especially for beginners who aren’t sure how to pose people and even showing the difference of the same shot with different exposures
I wish I had a better way of saying this but, thank you. I've had to completely rebuild myself from either tragedy or the less than fatal challenges of life, this being my fourth time. My new purpose in life has led me to a wish I knew where you've been all my life love for both photography and videography. I almost (just almost) wish I had skipped the academics to pursue this passion but who knows until its time, right? Over the past year that I've been learning from experts such as yourself on the technical aspects, it was listening to you in your videos that helped me to not just feel comfortable but also understand that I could not imagine doing anything else. I have been an educator teaching students from pre-school to post-graduate doctoral students but now currently I am temporarily unable to physically continue. With much thought and determination, I will still educate but in a different way that I feel will benefit people from all walks of life, and the camera skills I am learning will be invaluable in this endeavor. Hopefully, in a short time, this dream will reach fruition. I know this is wordy and possibly sappy but hey. Again, thank you.
Amazing video! thank you! I have a graduation photoshoot and it's my first portrait shoot. I'm a little nervous but very excited. Thank you for this video!
You have always been somebody I looked up to for the past 3 years or so when I started. So don't take this the wrong way but....shooting at 2.8 does bring in more light but if you wanna under expose just crank up the shutter speed. I always shoot wide open if its with one person, but if I shoot groups I then compensate. Keep up the good work Jessica!
I always shoot portraits around f 1.8-2.8 and then adjust the shutter speed for exposure. I also keep my ISO at 100 outside unless I have to change it.
Literally so helpful - basics but fundamental! I've watched hours of portrait videos and Learned a lot from this straight forward video. Keep them coming! :)
You are my absolute favorite photographer. Love how you teach at the same time giving us fantastic photos. By the way is the location at Canton Park in Michigan . It looks familiar
Thank you for this video. It was very informative and helpful. I’ve just been asked to do an outdoor graduation photography session and I usually only shoot indoors. Again, thank you!
So funny! Doing an outdoor photoshoot later today in a sunflower field! Two different ladies and their two daughters! Looking forward to that, and this video
Loved this. Please do one on how to take full body pictures, camera placement when the model is standing and when they sitting. How much camera tilt is just right if you're going for a low angle shot. Love you Jess💕
This was an super fun video. I am dying to see the rest of the process! You've done retouching videos before and stuff, but it would be so cool to see a video from you where you go through the entire process from posing the model to publishing the photo.
Hi Jessica!! Nice video! Maybe it's a good idea if you also write the focal length you shoot, because you say you're using a 24-70mm, but not if the shot was 24, 50 or 70mm. I think that this way we can also get used to differentiating between some ranges and others in the photos. Thanks for reading me! :)
We love the Daphne duck! what an icon we love it!!! More ducks please Jessica!! In all seriousness tho, Sophia is B.E.A.U.TIFUL! She's such a stunner, she just glows, she's so radiant! I just need to know how? honestly! so pretty!
Beautiful video and so helpful tips! Sorry for stupid question (newbie) but why change exposure by changing f stop instead of keeping low f stop number for blurry background and increasing shutter speed instead? Thank you!
Thank you for your knowledge and easy instructions in every video you've made so far I've personally learned alot from your teaching and look forward to more outdoor portrait videos and tutorials. Take care Jessica!
how do you find locations for photoshoots? like how do you find a location, or deal with busy city locations and potentially looking like a weirdo in public(like a swim suit shoot on the beach, or cosplay at a local park)? do you reserve locations?
Hi Jessica, I am new to photography. I am learning sooo much from your tips and photography techniques. Thank you so much for making such beautiful videos which are so easy to understand. Your prop idea was fantastic. Take care, regards
ive been told to work on my composition more. the more i research photography. i am starting to understand good shots are about angles and even how things angle in a picture. like moving the shoulders, tilting the head, moving a leg to reposition the body. am i on the right path??
I really like this video. Very informative. One thing I was looking for was the focal length you were at. I know you know it changes how the image looks so that would be nice to add to the information. Really nice video tho. Thanks
Thanks, watching this a year later because my daughter's prom is here. Was helpful to see the aperture setting part. So many tell you to shoot wide open for the bokeh, but I also like a but underexposed and get more detail. Thanks!!
Jessica, How can i make the background blurry and the prop you use it was blurry too, but the model was very clear. How can i do that? Love your channel btw!
These are some really great tips!! I'm doing my daughter's senior portraits and live in colorado... Not a professional by all means but love to do it. 💕
Hey Jessica I love your videos so much keep up the good content. I was planning on purchasing a camera for photography and I have my eyes on the Canon EOS 90D and the Canon EOS 5D Mark 4 so which one would you think be better for photography?
Thanks Jessica for sharing the tips ,it's really helpful. While watching your video I realized what I was lacking about portrait shoot. A request would you make another video on full length poses ?
Can you make a video about "what do photographers expect from a newbie model/a model in general?" pls? I would like to know that since I'm starting my modelling career and kinda terrified of letting the photographers down just bc I haven't had enough experiences posing on camera :')
As an amateur photographer for the past 3 years or so, I'd say I expect the model to communicate, first and foremost. Be open, don't be shy, make sure to tell me if something is making you uncomfortable, tell me if you need a break etc. Change your poses. Don't be afraid to do things, to try poses, don't expect the photographer to pose you 100%, take some initiative so I can work with that and correct what I see needs to be corrected through my lens. Be on time. Super important, sometimes we're shooting for a very limited amount of time or there are serious deadlines running. We can't always afford to waste time, even minutes, unfortunately. Be patient. Sometimes it might be hard to get the perfect angle or find the perfect settings for the photo, so try to understand that. It's not an ideal situation for either of us, it's even kind of stressful when you're shooting with a new model for the first time, but it happens. Be mindful, we get tired too and sometimes we lose vision of what we wanted to shoot and personally I feel so bad when it happens to me because it's like I'm wasting your time, but it's part of the process. Make sure you listen to instructions and clear your head of worries, they can show. We're a team, it's like I'm coaching you, you can't see yourself so you have to listen to pointers from me. That shouldn't discourage you or make you feel like you're doing something wrong, some models think that if they're getting a lot of tips from the photographer it's because they're not doing it right but that's completely untrue (also keeo in mind that some photographers prefer to talk a lot and give you tons of tips, hype you up etc and others are very quiet - neither of these means you're not doing well enough, it just depends on the person). That's all that comes to mind rn but I literally can't stress enough how important communication is, it's what can make or break a collaboration. Hope it helps. Good luck!

Do you have a tutorial for portraits on rainy days? Or harsh conditions....like unexpected weather conditions
I recall her posting a wedding video and in part of she had to shoot in the pouring rain and improvising.

I love how soft and relaxed her poses are. Also the whole chill vibe of this video is so relaxing. Lots of good info too thanks.
