      It’s a decent class for sure. In English history they used to have a 1 MAA/Knight to 9 archer ratio. Shooting pointy sticks is quite powerful.

    I just started less than a week ago.
    My favorites: Officer, Skirmisher, Man-at-Arms
    Not interested: Field Engineer in its current state, Ambusher
    Had a hard time playing as: Devastator, Raider, Poleman
    Chill fallback: Crossbowman
    The others just don't stand out so much yet: Guardian, Crusader, Longbowman
    Having trouble figuring out why my character sometimes doesn't do what I click him to do.
    And it is hard to apply useful tricks in the heat of battle. Being able to perform a triple feint doesn't mean I can do it anytime.
    Playing mostly third person to get a feel for the situational awareness.
    Also having trouble measuring the distance where Jabs and Kicks would work. But at least the occasions are obvious.
    Additionally having extreme trouble finding shields on maps when I lost mine or want to get one if I didn't have one at all.

    • @klevinduck
      @klevinduck  3 месяца назад +3

      Hi again. Officer I would say is a great starting subclass for beginners. The knight class is general is great because of its high health pool and really reliable weapons.
      Field engineer is perfect to team based objective play but in direct combat it is quite bad. Ambusher has a lot of nuance to it that a new player won't understand right off the rip but overall it isn't really a good class and can be hard to play.
      Devastator and Raider are part of the Vanguard class which I think is hard for new players in general because of the lower health pool compared to knight or footman. The relatively increased speed and stamina won't help if you don't have good footwork or can't dodge attacks well.
      Poleman is great due to it's long reaching weapon but you really need to have good teammates on the frontline to thrive. In direct combat Poleman's weapons are a bit clunky to use and you can feel like you're getting rushed down.
      Crossbowman is really chill for beginners so good pick haha. Longbowman is harder to play but has a lot more killing potential.
      All of the points you bring up about applying combat tricks, situational awareness, finding shields, etc are really learned by playing and getting a feel for the game. You'll get the hang of things eventually so don't get disheartened if things don't click right away. I've made several beginner guides that are really basic because the points you bring up above are simply learned by playing more.

      @rudolphantler6309 3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks.
      The problem I have with Devastator, Raider, and Poleman is that their weapons' attack speed is so slow, enemies with even slightly faster attack speed can run circles around me. And it's not like I'm playing duels either, I'm mostly in practice mode.
      I'm actually doing the same to them when I wield a Short Sword.

    • @klevinduck
      @klevinduck  3 месяца назад

      I see what you mean. When I first started playing I only used fast weapons like the one handed mace. When you get used to spacing and using footwork to side step attacks using big weapons that are slower becomes easier. Checkout my highland sword video and you’ll see that even when using one of the slowest weapons a lot of damage can be done with good positioning.

    • @rudolphantler6309
      @rudolphantler6309 3 месяца назад

      I don't like one-handed maces in this game, but the short sword is pretty good.
      Oddly enough since I last replied I had great successes with the HEAVY MACE! That thing seems oddly good.
      Sadly, a lot of times the game is unplayable for those who didn't play Chivalry before because there is no SBMM, level 1000 players destroy lobbies and outright deny gameplay or fun or sportmanship.
      I've grown accustomed to outright leaving matches where there is a player above level 400 or so which I absolutely cannot stand up to. There is a point where losing so hard has nothing to teach.
      But sadly sometimes those same level 1000s use alternate smurfer accounts below level 200 to use the same skills to yet again destroy any semblance of fun the game could have had and laugh and teabag all their way to their own real life failure.
      But on an unrelated note. Is this game still being developed by the makers? I heard the last update was about 4-5 months ago with the Goadendag, right? Or is it abandoned now? Because the Vote Kick system is broken, the matchmaking autobalance is also absolutely broken especially considering bots shouldn't even matter, the battle pass campaigns require third party authentication fixes to function properly, and it is a real shame that the Falx weapons are only skins yet not distinct weapons.

    • @klevinduck
      @klevinduck  3 месяца назад

      Game is no longer receiving content updates. It's fun but will bleed player count.
      In the last couple of updates skill based team balanced was introduced for the start of the round. There is sometimes mid-game autobalance but at this point the good players will still play the game and newer players will keep getting matched up against veterans. It's like that for all niche games with hardcore fanbases.

    Hi,im a relativly new player and pretty much the whole community hates soo much on archers like they are completly overpowerd and i really don't understand why.Sure there annoying but op???You have to actually aim to get kills.So in crowd modes like TO its way easier to get high kill games with melee weapons than it is with ranged weapons.I really don't get the hate.And i really apprieciate you opinion about archers and that you don't downright curse everyone who picks them.

      Welcome to the game and I hope you’re having a good time :)
      People don’t like archers because there’s not much counterplay against ranged attacks beyond stay out of line of sight or use a shield. That’s what makes archer so powerful but also why it’s hated, especially by high level melee players. A lot of players have big egos and you can put them in their place with a few well placed shots.

    I want to point out one thing I don't agree:"if you find yourself in melee range you are playing crossbowman wrong" then why they give me the banner to put next to the frontline and an axe that can be shot? Personally I fight really close the front shooting at targets close range and quickly switching to melee by throwing my crossbow to the enemy. Is so aggressive that enemy just don't aspect the archer to strike them instead of reloading infront of them. Btw I proud to say im devastator main and often on the top 3 players of the team devastator can't be played like a knight. While knights are the honorable frontline the devastator is the guy next to them that when they engaje he is going to easly sneak behind the guy and bishot him. The devastator have more stamina so you can affoard to dodge with every attack and block to save yourself more. The only problem is friendly fire that will kill you more then the enemies does.

    • @klevinduck
      @klevinduck  Месяц назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting. To address your first point, if you 1v1 an exact clone of yourself that up is using any other subclass except longbowman you will lose. This is because objectively speaking you will have inferior health, stamina, and weapon stats compared to the other subclasses. I believe throwing your crossbow is a gimmick play that may work once in a while or against inexperienced players but you are potentially sacrificing your main source of reliable damage to get aggressive with a class that is subpar at melee.
      To address your second point I agree devastator cannot be played like knight. It doesn’t have the health pool to frontline. I agree with the points you made but I keep my rankings as they are because I believe the higher ranked subclasses are better what they do or are in general better overall compared to devastator. I also in general rank vanguards lower than knight and footman because they are quite susceptible to swords and bows which can two shot them more often than the other two melee classes. The lower health really sucks and stamina doesn’t matter too much in TO in my opinion as compared to duelling.

      The snowy level is called Thayic Stronghold. It is a Team Objective (TO) map and you can get to it via 64 or 48 player mixed modes from the quick play menu. In the server browser you can look for TO | Stronghold to get it as well. Hope that helps.

    I think you’re mostly there with your class breakdown, but there are some picks I disagree with.
    Raider should not be in B tier. There’s a reason that double Dane axe or Dane axe and messer are basically a noob’s cheat code to getting cheap kills. The Dane axe is a two-hander that has the superior reach and damage of a 2 hander combined with the speed and agility of a one hander, all while dealing increased damage to footmen and knights. It has a 90 damage overhead, which is equivalent to the greatsword, a much slower and more cumbersome weapon. When thrown, it does 100 damage, which is more than any thrown weapon in the game. There have been many kills that I’ve gotten with the Dane axe on guys that are close to full health, and it one shots most archers unless they’re overhealed.
    90 percent of the time I am killed by a thrown weapon that is not the throwing knife, it’s the Dane Axe. Raider even has the war horn, same as Officer.

    • @klevinduck
      @klevinduck  9 дней назад +1

      Thanks for taking the time to comment and I see where you’re coming from. With a specialised playstyle you can do very well but in general the other classes are better in my opinion. Maybe Raider could be bumped up to A tier but I kept it at B tier for a few reasons which are probably already mentioned in the video.
      1. Health. Vanguard HP is lower compared to the other melee classes and on maps where there isn’t room to move much (e.g Falmire bridge, Montcrux Portcullis, Thayic portcullis) or when you can’t fall back from defending a vital objective, the class doesn’t have a lot of staying power. It gets two shot by most two handers, bows, and even two light overheads from swords. I find the superior health pool of knight and footman makes a big difference. That being said, all Vanguards get significantly better the more open the maps are but so do the other classes for my playstyle.
      2. Weapon selection. Dane Axe is good. Two is better but I feel all the other two handed axes are superior in reach. I had a look at the polehammer website (no longer exists) for all my detailed stats. Dane axe does have a bit of speed to it but I personally believe in TO reach is so important in a big melee. Yes you can throw weapons but it’s inconsistent and you could lose your weapons aka your primary sources of damage. If you wanted to you could throw other axes as well and they all do significant damage but like I said it’s not consistent. Anyway I am a believer that one good primary weapon is usually better than two less good weapons and to me the Dane axe is still not as good as most of the other axes. You can disagree with that but in my mind 32 knights with Waraxe, executioners axe, battle axe, big shield + one handed axe or spears, or poleaxe will beat 32 raiders with whatever combination of weapons 95% of the time. If it were 32 messers or even 32 one handed swords (almost the same length as a longsword) + throwing knives vs raiders GG.
      3. Playstyle. I believe raider is suited to roam the battlefield with its high speed and stamina to deliver damage where required. Direct large group combat is not ideal due to its health mostly. That being said you could do the same as crusader but you have a superior primary weapon, tertiary weapon, and health. If you use the one handed axe as a secondary that’s an additional projectile you can throw for ~68 damage. I believe Crusader is just on another level compared to raider although raider is faster, has more stamina, and has the better ability. Those three traits I do not value as highly in TO compared to health and weapon selection.
      I do like discussion so thank you for commenting but I think raider to B tier is fair. At most I’d put it in A tier behind the crossbowman (crossbow man has fast, consistent primary weapon damage, the best one handed weapon selection, good defensive options, and the best ability).

    • @technologicallyilliterate
      @technologicallyilliterate 9 дней назад

      @ I think you raise some good points here
      Health: I agree that Vanguards are generally low at 120 health, but raiders, devastators, and ambushers alike all benefit from increased movement speed and stamina, and if you play them correctly, you can actually win huge fights all by yourself. I play Raider a lot in TO running Dane Axe and messer, and my biggest 1vX’s have been won on Raider, including a 1v8 at one point. And even when I die to multiple attackers, I usually take a few down with me on Raider, which I cannot say holds true for other classes. You are right that choke points make for a disadvantage, but I like to pull people away from the point as Raider, or flank completely and sprint attack/heavy overhead from behind rather than just stick myself on the front line. But, when I do have to do that, the horn and the team heals are there for that reason, and I can keep myself alive. I also loooove the Messer as my backup for that reason; it has extremely good range on all attacks, but especially stab and heavy stab, which I use to poke enemies around the bodies of the friendly knights in front of me.
      Weapon Selection: you are right that the knights have generally better weapons, as nothing beats the officer knight with the poleaxe or heavy mace or longsword, but I think it’s actually just about on par with Crusader for me, only I don’t think Crusader has a weapon that can match the Dane axe’s speed and versatility, except maybe the Q-staff. The only better vanguard weapon, imo, is the warclub on Devastator. I think that you can definitely throw some of the other two handed axes like you mentioned, but none of them have the damage and speed of a thrown Dane axe. The windup on the Dane axe’s throw is maybe a frame or two longer than the throwing knife, if not the same speed, and that makes it incredibly more useful to throw with both superior windup and damage. The other two handed axes are much more unwieldy to throw and usually do 20-30 damage less. I can also see what you’re saying about having one really solid primary over two mediocre primaries, which is why I also think officer knight is far and away the best class, especially on offense, as well as guardian for defense. But, what’s also cool about the Raider is that, if you lose access to your Dane axe after throwing it into an enemy’s face, you can pick up other weapons and still carry two primaries. Go for enemy weapons on the ground, and you can kit yourself out with insane combinations like poleaxe and messer, or poleaxe and war club. And as a raider, you have even more stamina, which takes even further advantage of stam drain negation weapons you pick up, especially poleaxe.
      Playstyle: I think the raider is actually more of a dive DPS, where you’re meant to flank and pull enemies out to 1vX. You have to take advantage of the superior movement speed and stamina to really make the most out of raider, but you can 1000% participate in big team fights, even ones right on the objective. If you kite a group of enemies, you can literally just take advantage of the half second dodge cooldown and spam left dodge,
      Moving around in circles around the lead man, where the other enemies can’t hit you. And in that 1vX, the superior speed means you can target switch like a motherfucker in a way that knights just can’t due to slow speed. Knights are still better overall, but raiders have a very high skill ceiling that you can take advantage of to completely stomp in pub lobbies. I frequently see Raiders, including myself, top fragging.

    • @klevinduck
      @klevinduck  8 дней назад +1

      Very good counter points you made and I agree with you. Raider good as dive DPS for sure. Knight is the best generalist class.
      Also at the end of the day in this casual game you can do good with any class haha. I have a video of me topping the entire lobby with just fists and a shield. With the right playstyle you can adapt to any lobby and have a lot of success.
