I agree on the Milwaukee M12 screwdriver being bulky, but I still like it. It's great for assembling and breaking down things. The power seems fine, considering it's only meant to be a screwdriver. I use mine quite frequently around the house where it's well suited for small jobs.

I love the Milwaukee drivers. I like that they are not over powered and have built a ton of projects with them. I have two and an as soon other Milwaukee drills, impact drivers, and impact drivers. I more often than not reach for one of these to drove screws because I’m less likely to overdrive or strip out the threads. The clutch works well and The battery last a long time. I really like it and don’t have a problem with it.

Over priced and under powered. I've got a little cheap pink electric driver that I found doing a clean out on a job, it worked so I kept it and threw into the tool bag. It works great for brass screws, cabinet work, light covers exc it works fantastic. Not sure how much it cost but I've been using it doing construction trade work for about 5-6 years, never replaced it, the battery, or charger. And I'm pretty sure the whole package might be $20. I would've never bought one but I would definitely buy another one if this one goes out.

Yes, the Milwaukee M12 Fuel drill/hammer drill and M12 Fuel impact driver does 85% of the work I do. I almost never need the M18 Fuel. It's much smaller than DeWalt's 12V line, and if I need more power, I put the higher Ah battery in. If I was suggesting someone buy one impact driver & drill/hammer drill kit, it would be the M12 Fuel. It's spectacular. The one he has is the junky non-fuel (brushed) version.

I recently bought the knipex twingrip, and it is a very good slipjoint plier, with screw extracting features and great teeths. I also use bosch 12v platform, and this compact screwdriver is my favorite. And the Bosch go 2 screwdriver is a great alternative to the Dewalt one. The only difference is that the battery is not removable, it charges via USB.

VDE screw drivers always used to be too fat, it has been standard practice for yeah to strip an inch or so of the end just to fit things like brakers. Over here it's pretty common to require the use of VDE tools and cutting the insulation off would void the test so the manufacturer's came out with the slip ones. I remember people getting very excited about 10 years ago when they appeared in the catalogue. I also remember getting into trouble for stripping the screwdrivers, I worked on pretty high powered stuff at the time, The sacrifice is in the strength though you end up with a much thinner screwdriver, they end up with a lot of flex so are less good on larger terminals in my experience.

    • @realworldtoolreviews
      @realworldtoolreviews  2 года назад +2

That definitely makes sense. The Wiha ones definitely seem pretty strong, but I don’t really use them on big terminals. I’m glad they started making thinner insulated screwdrivers because those fat ones are a pain. Thanks for your comment 👊

I use the m12 fuel surge all the time. Its well balanced, not too heavy, small, decent noise level and packs a punch. The 3 speeds and feathering the trigger allows you to go from not stripping small metal screws to seating lag bolts. I don't believe in one brand does it all but Milwaukee did well with the m12 line, for DIY specifically.

I never liked klein linesman pliers. I aways used Channellock's. As far as drills go !!! Application is everything.
I once worked on a light retrofit job where they were changing over to electronic ballast, I used one of those 4 volt drills & a 5/16 & 11/32 sockets on the drill. Worked perfectly !!! Light & when your your looking at changing some 1200 ballasts that cheap 4 volt drill made it easier. I have both the M12 brushed and fuel screwdrivers.
You are spot on about the size of this thing. I got the M12 brushed screwdriver for cheap on ebay, it came broken, got refunded and Milwaukee warrantied it so it was essentially free. My knee jerk reaction when using it for the first time was, "damn this thing is big for being so weak". I can't believe there are videos on youtube of people saying how much they like this thing. I thought I could use it on electronics, but nope its massive. I essentially leave it with a XC 4.0 battery in the bathroom and use the hex drill brush attachments to clean the tub and sink. I cant complain because I got it for free, but if I had to pay for a screwdriver, i'd be better of getting some cheap cordless one on amazon that is much smaller and cheaper.
Then I found the M12 fuel screwdriver for super cheap on ebay ($70 ish) and bought it. Same large size, has 2 gears, noticeably more power, and much better run time. But it lives in an unusual place in M12 line up, and I think there is a reason why nobody does reviews on it on RUclips and few people bother owning it. The installation driver offers so much more versatility due to multiple heads while still being precise for delicate fasteners. I think you could even use the M12 surge on the lowest setting for somewhat precise fastener installation, its quiet, and much more versatile being an impact driver. No way would I want to pay the full MSRP on the Fuel screwdriver. They also never have sale promotions on it, compared to the other M12 tools.
Both of these items should be avoided and skipped over. I should have spent the money I put towards the fuel screwdriver on the installation driver if I really needed something precise.

We got the Klein multi nut driver w 1/2” for work, saved a little bit of weight by ditching the 5/16 and 3/8 since 11-1 has those. I will say the wrench assist handle on the multi nut driver is a life saver, but I just HAD TO modify the handle. I thought it was so ridiculous, what a waste of space why would anyone need a handle this freakin huge. I cut off the rubber lining and at least an inch off the butt of the handle with a band saw. Inserted a rubber grommet, plugged it up and sealed it. Came out as long as a regular 11-1 handle 😎

But I do agree, it’s bulky and two guys I work with have demolished there’s but mine is still kicking because it just chills in my tool bag because I prefer my Klein Hollow Shaft Nut Driver set over the multi-tool by a long shot! “And who uses a 3/16 inch nut driver anyway?” lol I laughed at that one pretty hard but I honestly use it as much as my 1/2 inch and my 7/16 because I am a cable lineman (coax splicer) and all of our seizure screws are 3/16 so mine is damn near worn out haha! I bought a Klein insulated 3/16 for when I’m loosening hot seizure screws and it’s waaaaay to thick to fit in there so I may try to cut the insulation back like you did. Great idea man! (Maybe DeWALT has a patent. 🤔)
Even if it was about the thickness of the M12 battery, but a cylindrical form-factor - that would be pretty cool and easy to keep a firm grip on.

As you, I like good tools.
I don't want to sound like a blind Milwaukee brand defender, It is just want to make a little note about the Milwaukee M12 2401.
I have several sizes of screwdrivers, impact screwdrivers, all the way to small impact wrenches.
I can't say the 2401 is my favorite tool, personally, as you, I could prefer the Bosch GSR12V-300HXN if I got the money ($50 vs. $130), but the 2401 for sure is the one I use the most.
Assembly and disassembly of appliances, pcs, car interior stuff, residential HVAC, small wood and plastic works that requires an small amount of torque to avoid ruin parts suit perfect to this screwdriver, and if you already have M12 cordless line there is not a lot to think.
    Thank you again,
    JC
