Yeah, I encountered this particular model in multiple games. but I could only see it from a great distance - whenever I'd come closer it would transform into a regular car.
I had a car like that once. It was a Radio Flyer. Gravity was the engine. Its top speed was more than 30 mph but the only way to break was to roll it.

08:24 That used to actually happen with old cars. As a kid in the 70s, I remember a family friend died from being impaled by the steering column as a result of a front end collision.
I had a pamphlet that came with my Saab 99 from the 70s disgusing how proud they were of their crumpling steering wheel column to avoid things like this. That's also why the key was located between the seats, so in an accident you wouldn't break your knee on the ignition switch... yikes
I saw this tucked away in the vault at the Petersen Museum and told my nephews about it, but never got to see the inside or quirks and features. Thanks for sharing this Doug!! (btw, I can see you doing a series with the Petersen cars. Makes me wonder what else they'll let you drive!)
They should've called this the "Polycar", since it's polygonal and exterior is made of polycarbonate.

Looks like a design I made for an auto when I completed USN aviation structural and hydraulic mechanic school back in 2002... Ofc, it was probably a lot weirder as I also designed an electric /hydraulic drive system with Vickers 9 array and also utilized articulation and all wheel steering... But I. It's face, it follows the design aesthetic closely, but rather than a Lamborghini Countach, replace it with a F117 with bare wishbone suspension protrusions...
Glad someone is doing wacky stuff too.

It would be interesting to see what kind of radar signature it puts out...also, depending on how thick that polycarbonate body is, it could have some decent anti-ballistic properties as well.
this is just a golfcart frame with a few piece's of plexiglass attached to it, it even still has the beeping when switched into reverse... and I love it

Given that there appears to be no horizontal or vertical planed panels, if it were made from the right materials it would be a stealth vehicle. No police radar would be able to get a reflection reading on it, like stealth aircraft.

It's more about right angles, rather than vertical or horizontal specifically, but the point is the same nonetheless. Also, though, 30 MPH is so slow, that it wouldn't stand out against the background, which in itself would make it stealth. It's how notching a lock in a fighter works. Blend in with the ground in such a way that you don't appear to be moving and you disappear.

In this case low res refers to a technique used in polygonal 3d video games to optimise performance called LOD (level of detail) which modulates the visual fidelity according to distance from player, the level of detail on a game asset/model depending on distance from view. The farther away from player view, the less detail is needed because the user can not discern them anyway and so the game engine reduces the amount of ressources used by said model by lowering the resolution of 2D textures on the surface AND by lowering polygone count to the point where a car can actually look exactly like this Lo Res car, in opposite the closer the more detailed until it reaches 100% original detail again.
This car is a low res LOD model of a countach .

I feel like a couple small exhaust fans in the lower rear would solve the issue of it getting too hot inside. Looks like there's space to hide them too
I'd love to see some custom builder make a larger version of the basic body shape (plus sticky-out bumpers and so on as requirred by law in whatever region) that has a more sporty powertrain and mechanics, and I suppose a few more panel lines to give it actual doors and a separate engine compartment etc. I'm sure it still wouldn't be up to supercar standards just from the limitations of hiding everything away under the facted exterior, but you could probably achieve at least stock 70s muscle car performance, basing it on mechanics from one of the modern sporty coupes.

Technically speaking, this is low-poly not low-res.
I work in VFX and we use the term low-res all the time when referring to polygonal meshes.
Watch me speed build this in blender in 30 seconds, with textures and shaders, and it render in 0.23

@@countchoculitis1528 Yes, you can call low-poly low-res. polygonal meshes are kind of the approximation of realworld bodys. So the count of polygons is related to how closely the mesh matches the realworld body. So the term "resolution" is matching.
The same with framerate (temporal resolution)

With a few tweeks can be transformed into a real ev. There will be lines for the front and rear bumpers. so they can go inside the biody in an impac. A true battery pack and a single electric motor. A control panel and just a screen for all controls. Exagonal screen to match and exagonal steering weel. Pneumatic suspension to get real low standing. Ceramic tinat inside all surfaces, and electric AC. Maybe a $25K low res true electric car.
It is rumoured that designers originally modernised the speedometer by replacing km/h with fps, then they reasoned max speed could be increased by lowering the resolution of the vehicle 😂
This looks like a James Bond villain getaway car, disguised as a sculpture in his evil lair. "You will never get me Bond!" as he opens up this showpiece in 30 seconds and drives away at a leisurely pace of 48kph while the lair is collapsing under the volcano it was built on.
Just as practical as a moped.

The wheels are probably "hidden" so they don't throw rocks and other road stuff (water) all over the interior.

YES, Except the Wheels are NOT completely sealed , so Rocks , Dirt, Dog Poop can still enter the car from the Exposed sides.

@@markplott4820 Unless you're sliding sideways, virtually all of the debris will be shot out radially on the same plane as the wheel. Very little is going to go laterally unless maybe you're sliding. Would you rather be hit by a little, or all of it?
