Brilliant. This is now a regular feature of my week. Who’d have thought listening to 5 middle aged men talking about car seats would be this good. Brings back a lot of memories. Thank you so much. Keep up the great work. I’m just off to checkout the Spotify playlist…
Senna story - a former colleague was working for Customs at (I think) Inverness airport when a private jet landed to refuel en route from Canada to Switzerland. The pilot came into the wee office and was chatting away to my colleague and mentioned his passenger was Ayrton Senna. As far as my colleague was concerned, this was God. The pilot brought Ayrton in to say hello and my colleague only spoke to him briefly but he asked what Ayrton's best racing moment was. No question, qualifying at Monaco in 88.
Fantastic Pod, gentleman. I really, really enjoy listening to you guys. I love the additional pics which make it easier to follow along with all the fantastic references. Also, Chris Cooper is spot-on with Telegraph Road by Dire Straits. Brilliant track. -Tim
Ayrton Senna drove the rally cars at Phil Price Rally School near Knighton in Mid Wales. Phil is sadly no longer with us either, but the photos from that day still adorn the walls of the cabin, and from my time spent there in Phil's company it was quite apparent that he was very proud of having shared that experience with Ayrton.
They so make me chuckle... But the passion they all have is barely controllable at times! As said, luv the pics added for reference. Keep it coming guys...
Great episode! Recaros, GT3 and driving songs :) The Chain has to be in there. Agree with Chris C Telegraph Rd is 14mins of driving perfection. Huge Senna fan too. Last year my 13 year old got to meet Bruno at the Member's Meeting. I was stoked.
In my late teens/ early driving years, it is a near miracle that I managed to survive late evening blasts along country lanes in my mum's Fiesta 1.1 litre, goaded on by Telegraph Road blasting out as loudly as the slightly modified stereo could take - magic!
I believe what you described as the ideal motoring movie with an old racer taking a younger one under his wing for that important victory is essentially the plot of the Pixar film "Cars"
Hi guys. Thank you for putting this together, it makes my week. Something for every petrol head no matter how young or old. Awesome!! Keep up the great work 😎
Best week so far guys 👏 The senna memories were fantastic , great track to drive to is “ The Impossible Dream “ Andy Williams purely because of the Honda advert
Yet another excellent episode Gentlemen 👌🙏 Good shout C.C! telegraph road…. Empty tarmac, late in the evening, making progress 😉 in the zone 👌 Looking forward to next episode…. My fave weekly car addict fix 👍
Yes telegraph road, me and my dad used to listen to that whenever we had a road trip to the caravan or something. Made him put it on repeat. Hotel California too, bittersweet symphony!
Totally with Harris on the late 80's Porsche sports seats. I had them in a 944S2 and they are still the best seats I've ever had in a car. Weirdly the worst seats I ever used were the Recaro's in the Rover 800 Vitesse my first ever boss had. They were so uncomfortable and not that supportive.
I’ve grown to really enjoy this podcast. Thought at first just going to be grumpy old men. Then it dawned on me I’m 50 now and I’m a grumpy old bar steward myself. Hahaha. Look forward to the next one chaps.
Definetly Recaro seats on an airplane adds to the joy of traveling and excitement. In cars they are THE best, period. Ford versus Ferrari, I watched on my way to Haneda Japan from Heathrow and loved it. Not because it's very precise about the action and the cars, but had great characters and penances the real theme there, which is a man's dream and is revenge.
Regarding seats, I think both Saab and Volvo should be mentioned. And it was technical seats as Sweden has been far ahead in research on ergonomics, and these seats were heavily influenced by that ❤
This is somewhat of a trick answer but the most comfortable seats are the air seats in trucks or tractors, ride like clouds and genuinely no back pains after being in them all day.
Another great show. Thank you. Question - lottery garage but must have the following 1) Hot Hatch, 2) classic for investment, 3) Saloon, 4)SUV or Estate, 5) Convertible, 6) Sportscar, however each car must be from a different decade
@Chris (Cooper), its was RS2000 (not RS200) that Doyle drove....very different thing. I am sure you know this on reflection - slip of the tongue. Agreed....Recaro are the best...from my Ford days (RS2000 roadcars, and Rally car days....then my BMW Dealership days where the Recaro option was invariably ticked. Also the Scheel seats of the E9 3.0 CSL. Aesthetically gorgeous in their simplicity and effectiveness. I still love the 1966 film Grand Prix....for all its naivety, it reflects a glamorous/dangerous era, and Rush was a tear jerker, but you are right Chris )Harris)....difficult to highlight a great motorsport film. The Eclat didn't have a Renault engine...You are thinking of the Europa surely? Never 'got' the Senna fandom thing....lost on me. (Heretic). Personally Neil, I cheered when Schumacher took-out Hill.....sorry.
If it is comfort - the Daimler double six Vanden Plas. Actually the Princess 4 litre Rolls Royce powered Vanden Plas 1964-68 had the most magnificent cloth armchairs . The S1 Elise effectively had no seats at all.
Each episode is as good as the other, great collection of "car nuts" being able to spin a lovely engaging story. In the side note, Ferrari vs Ford movie had a great cast, wonderful acting, only to be let down with the racing footage.
I hear everything they are saying about this F1 film and fear they may be correct. However, if you were to watch "Moneyball" (a Brad Pitt film production) you can see that he has a great understanding of sport and what makes that sport special to hardcore fans whilst telling a story riveting and entertaining enough for those who have no interest in baseball. It's a wonderful film, only based in part around a true story of the Oakland A's remarkable 2002 season where they competed with the big boys on a fraction of their budget. If you havn't already, go and watch it. Also a very good example of a great film with Pitt acting as a mentor (sort of) to his understudy..
Best car sticker/sun strip. Best number plate. Best breakdown story. Best cylinder firing order. What was the last car you had to double de-clutch in. Best experience sat on a car roof. Have you ever bothered with all season tyres in UK. Will EV adoption get above about 33% which is approximately the number of two or more car homes and if not what are OEMs going to do when their sales drop 70% because they are forced to make a product hardly anyone is buying
Grand Prix is literally the best motorsport film out there, the cinematography has yet to be matched by another motorsport film since. Rush had a pretty good story with stellar acting, but 1966s GP just has that cinema perfection i look for in a Motorsport movie
The single biggest problem with motorsport movies is they're going "and here we are at Kyalami going through Barbecue" and I'm always "no you're not, this is Oulton Park, and the scene you say was at the Nurburgring, was just Clay Hill, so shut up". Or it cuts from them going through Eau Rouge to Blanchimont to Les Combes to La Source and then the Bus stop. ARGH.
Question: why has no one opened a museum with every car in it? If I had Saudi cash I would open a museum with the top spec of every car ever made from 1964 onwards.... similar to your dream garage video....but then race them against each other BMI style.....and how much money would it take?
It's interesting the point you raise about motor racing movies but feel that Top Gun is great. As someone who grew up living on Air Force bases no movie meets my expectations - I've seen military aircraft do things that are utterly beguiling - therefore you have to ask who is the target audience and I'd say an F1 movie is probably not for us geeks. I think you also touched on a critical element to be successful it must contain the human story - that's what Rush did and Ferrari vs Ford.
On Senna memories: Spa 1991 was my first F1 race. 10 years old. We entered the track passing La Source. Senna's was the first car I saw and heard. That throttle blipping sound of his will stay with me forever. ruclips.net/video/boCZPVREe5E/видео.html
Motorsports inspired films don't do as well as car culture films. Motorsports are good to watch, but it's harder to relate to than Johnny joining an illegal street racing club with his riced Honda Civic.
What was a cornier racing movie: Ford vs Ferrari or Viva Las Vegas? It had so many cringe errors and the extremely overacted portrayal of a secondary character in Ken Miles. The real life story did not need embellishment and fiction. Carrol Shelby emerges from rural Texas to wind LeMans, create his own company, assist the Ford Motor Company to commit a Space Program like project to win both the Sportscar Championship and LeMans then walks away to live in wild Africa for 12 years, make chickens and chili and be the longest living heart transplant recipient. Matt Damon did the best he could for a midget...there is simple no one in Hollywood that tall, good looking and charming. Life better than fiction.
Guys you missed the point about the F1 film. The Brad Pitt one is just some Hollywood fiction appealing to masses. Not a story told. Wish you actually answered the question
Subject of motor racing comedy's, should be an f1/ the thick of it/office mash up Revolving around the team principles , pay drivers ,& assorted clueless lanyard wearing VIP/insta tw*ts The FIA & liberty Captured by a NF esque crew
Boxing fans love Rocky because they're aren't enough good rivalries in boxing. Yes they're are some, but not many to really stir the interest of nations. Plus the modern day boxer does 1 fight per year... Imagine if Lewis Hamilton only had to race once a year... F1 does have great rivalries and great stories. Loved Rush and although flawed I did like Ford v Ferrari. But a fictional F1 film, I think will flop..
Zzzzzzz 911 nerd talk again Nordschliffe. Rest of this is fantastic but jeeze. Thank got for the ten seconds skip function (presses a few times during your 911 sesh)

Love how eloquent, passionate, Knowledgeable and down right hilarious you all are. You are my people.
Loving Neil Clifford. Just generally, every week, cool AF. And Manish, pure class.
Amazing show as always. Telegraph Road is a cracking song, but I find it one I fall asleep to last thing at night as it's so relaxing!
These are fantastic podcasts, 100% my era. Never come across Manish before but an absolute star IMO, keep em coming fellas.

Ive shared this with everyone because i like it so much. Please continue to make it
Just Brilliant and funny as always. The stories that the group have is awesome and as a person in his early 50's, I can relate to all the topics. 👍👍
Great stuff gents as always, look forward to these on a Friday now
Thanks for including the pictures 🤟

Another great chat this week. The senna memories are great. Discussion idea for next time, best steering wheel design
Best week so far guys 👏 The senna memories were fantastic , great track to drive to is “ The Impossible Dream “ Andy Williams purely because of the Honda advert
Yet another excellent episode Gentlemen 👌🙏
Good shout C.C! telegraph road…. Empty tarmac, late in the evening, making progress 😉 in the zone 👌

Love this little podcast alot, please keep it up.
Going from strength to strength
Loving it
Yes telegraph road, me and my dad used to listen to that whenever we had a road trip to the caravan or something. Made him put it on repeat. Hotel California too, bittersweet symphony!
Manish always has such an eloquent way of telling stories
Awesome podcast! Been listening every week! Also, glad to see I'm the 12th follower to your Spotify Playlist! Keep it up boys! 👌🏾
That lambo story is incredible it speaks to type of thing you can experience when you aren’t on your phone
This stuff is priceless 🤣
Epic..thanks for your efforts 👌 💪
Got the Clio 182 & Integra R DC2. Great to see the appreciation for both cars!
excellent work with the inset photos! keep up the good work

I subscribe to a few channels and to your credit, I haven’t “hidden” any of your episodes yet. Keep up the great work.

Such an entertaining escape listening to these lads
Come ooonnnn.... Days of Thunder is an absolute classic!
This is somewhat of a trick answer but the most comfortable seats are the air seats in trucks or tractors, ride like clouds and genuinely no back pains after being in them all day.
Chris' Senna choice was the one I'd have picked. Excellent article, I 'think' I read it in Cars & Car Conversions...
Another great show. Thank you. Question - lottery garage but must have the following 1) Hot Hatch, 2) classic for investment, 3) Saloon, 4)SUV or Estate, 5) Convertible, 6) Sportscar, however each car must be from a different decade

Never 'got' the Senna fandom thing....lost on me. (Heretic).
Personally Neil, I cheered when Schumacher took-out Hill.....sorry.
Before it starts: Gt350R recaros, GT3 carbon bucket, civic type r red jobies, Lexus RCF seats.
I love the Lotus Eclat, i'd have one now!
best podcasts you've done! keep it up
keep this going! its amazing!
If it is comfort - the Daimler double six Vanden Plas. Actually the Princess 4 litre Rolls Royce powered Vanden Plas 1964-68 had the most magnificent cloth armchairs . The S1 Elise effectively had no seats at all.
I've never had an issue with the Clio 182 seats personally. Pretty comfortable at least.
Clio Trophy seat is fine. The cars brilliant. Nothings can be that perfect, the Yaris is worse but can be corrected with lower runners.
Mr Harris, you forgot the w204 c63 seat... as per your c63 507 video (which I watch about 4 times a year). I may be a bit biased, as I own one myself!
Gonna suggest for next weeks chat, Edward crashed cars special @collectingcars
Each episode is as good as the other, great collection of "car nuts" being able to spin a lovely engaging story.
In the side note, Ferrari vs Ford movie had a great cast, wonderful acting, only to be let down with the racing footage.
Favorite podcast. PLEASE improve the audio quality though, hard to follow sometimes for a non English speaker!
Nothing as grand as an LP400 but dad brought a Cavalier SRi in 1988 with Recaro’s and they were just the best
I hear everything they are saying about this F1 film and fear they may be correct. Serious banter in this podcast. Hilarious.
Fiesta RS 1800 had incredible seats early 90s
Ive just received and read a copy of "Welsh Rarebit" at least Senna had the chance to scratch his itch.
Cheap Sunglasses is a hell of a shout
A great song for driving is also Chris Reas Road to hell, specialy the 2006 live version with the intro. Even better than original in my opinion.
@Manish with Moët you pronounce the t as in ‘Mo-et’ (not Mo-ey) due to the Dutch surname of the French-born founder.
Much as I love Chris Cooper's suggestions (2-car garage 15K to spend), where is he getting a Vauxhall VX (Holden VE Clubsport) R8 for 8 grand?
I’ve seen some for 10 before. He said he was spending 20k anyway lol

Can we have the playlist on Tidal as well please, for the hifi geeks?
Is having a 125i, 335i and 535i a "6 cylinder" collector addict problem?
No.
@Sugandese Nuts Correct, is the most fun of the three by far.
Grand Prix is literally the best motorsport film out there, the cinematography has yet to be matched by another motorsport film since. Rush had a pretty good story with stellar acting, but 1966s GP just has that cinema perfection i look for in a Motorsport movie

Honda Type-R Red fabric seats?

I would suggest that a 2010 volvo leather seat is the most comfortable thing in the world.
Wayne Gretsjy NHL legend, is a havaderen that handed down the gauntlet well m😎👌
Top notch 👌
I love this madness 👍
RS Fishnets
£15000, 1st gen Cayman S (13ish) and the rest on a knackered Volvo V70 T5. If I had the spannering knowledge I'd probably do the same
Question: why has no one opened a museum with every car in it? If I had Saudi cash I would open a museum with the top spec of every car ever made from 1964 onwards.... similar to your dream garage video....but then race them against each other BMI style.....and how much money would it take?
The t in the French word eclat is silent.

Something must be said about the E36 M3 "Vader" seats...
Has no one seen Rush? I thought that was a fantastic movie about Lauda and Hunt
Better than going to the pub
Imagine not mentioning Talladega Nights 😵💫
Nascar drivers have said that it is more accurate than you might think. 😄

Great show that I look forward to watching 👌👌 keep it going....(one thing though, can someone tell Neil to stop covering his face with his hands 🤦🤦)
Somehow every British person is a world class movie critic
Do Apple Music not Spotify

What do you fellows think about the Netflix F1 series? I like it.
Royale Blood, the Black Keys Thickfreakness for a b road. BRMC all you do is talk for that late summer night drive or early early morning drive
Mr Moët was a Dutchman. The “T”is pronounced
Can we please talk about the fruedian slip - "the reason top gear is good" - we are know he was thinking of Harris then...surely?
Mogwai - My Father My King. 20 mins long
Talladega Nights....watch it.... That is all.
Topic for next week: worst ever dashboards. I'll throw in the Fiat Multipla as food for thought.
Any Subaru Impreza or Mitsubishi Evo
On the topic of there being no good motorsport films… Have you never seen Cars?!

So Clifford made his story up? Senna was long dead by the time the Australian GP was coming up.
Neil said that, the night before Ayrton's passing, they were planning to go to Adelaide for the last GP.
