Those "just because" hugs from your kids are some of the best kind. I have to say that even though my two are 19 and almost 21, it still makes me stop and thank God for my kids when they give me "just because" hugs these days.
Mr Brown did an excellent job in rushing in to encourage a distraction with his sword from the pigs getting into the grain storage. Those are smart pigs. They came running straight to you to see if you had a treat. WTG Gideon. Good job!
I agree with Rebecca, they have been coming back to the house and not wandering off. There's so much pasture between their own and the house not to mention all the woods around. I think they are lonely and looking for the other animals since the others are on the lower pastures now. Good luck with figuring it out. 🤔👍
Gideon rose to the occasion and proved himself to be quite the pig herder with his valiant herding sword. A young boy with the incentive of a young man. Oh my. He was determined to protect the feed room. What a day for the Rhodes. Birds and pigs getting loose. The feed bucket and voice command works like Pavlov's response. Blessings Rhodes family.
Always enjoying the longer videos, with such rich storytelling, and and endless supply of pig drama these past few days. The boys running with Teddy is the laughter we all need in our lives. Unbridled carefree joy, is there anything better? Maybe freshly made ice cream, but always thankful to be able to watch along. Thank you!!!
Becca is absolutely correct!! Your pigs were bored, and curious, and wanted an outing. They aren't "imprinted" on you, but associate you with social interaction and probably a break in their tedium. In Europe, people in villages raise pigs, and unfortunately FOR THE PIGS, have found that confining them in tiny pens/closets without the ability to play and root, is the easiest way to keep them. Even if it's more work for you, you are raising your pigs in a much more humane and caring environment. THANK YOU!
I am continually impressed with the way you ask your boys to solve problems on the farm. So smart! They learn to solve all kinds of problems with minimal input from you. Wish I would have done that with our boys.
Premier1 makes the short black fiberglass posts for the pig fence, putting them in between every white post on the fencing seemed to help with my pig that would occasionally run through.
Oh Justin and family I am so sorry. I did laugh when the pigs arrived on the way to your home. Their target the garage! Smart pigs. They seem so pleased to see you. There are bonuses. They are calm and easily handled. They stay together on their excursions. Their target seems to be the house when they hear you working. Now the laughing comes with understanding snd empathy. We farmed large whites and landrace pigs commercially and yes, I have done my share of pig wrangling. Great vlog. Nice to see John again.
I remember you giving the pigs some burnt wood one time! They stayed busy with it and it was good for them! Maybe these pigs are just bored! Good luck and I love your channel!
Run the handle through the spokes of the wheels. That way they will only be able to move it about 1/3 a rotation before the pipe binds up stopping the cart.
The Pigs just want to be with the rest of the family their lonely out there by themselves lol. Love the Polar Plunge. Sheep moved great. Them steers are a piece of work. Moose kicking his heels up lol then Hamburger making a break for it. Darn Boys 😂😂. Another good looking Brunch. God Bless and Peace Be With You All
For the pigs, you can use landscape pins. Unfortunately, it will slow the regular moves because you have to pull the pins but it helped me keep the pigs in.
I feel your pain Uncle J. We had a horrible time with our 3 pigs for about a week until we figured out our fence grounding. Thank God we got it figured out. Definitely lowered the enjoyment of raising the escape artists! Uhhh...watching the vlog. U were feeding em ONCE a day? WHAT??? crazy man they were missing all that good grub!
Pigs are forever trying to get out, and they are smart. My buddy has a pretty goog number of hogs on one of his land leases. He had flexible moveable fench like what you use and they starting probing the fence for spots they would not take the hit, or they just took the hit to get out once every bit of grain or vegetation was gone. They also just get bored and wanna explore for more grazing. If they can see green grass or other hogs nearby they will get out. It is an endless endeavor for him to keep them in. He ended up upping the voltage and putting in hard posts with higher tension wires they cannot simply push through. You guys are smart and lure them back to then pen with food. lol
I have one sow who loves to scratch her back on a live fence and taunt the other sows into getting shocks whilst she is the other side. Her sister threw her info the training fence when she was young whilst I was watching. After they get used to the fence they tend to keep away from it, that can be a pain when moving them as they will not cross the old line without plenty of encouragement.
It appears that there isn't enough vegetation for them to eat in the area you have fenced for them. Maybe if you move them to the next section with more vegetation, they will stay in the fence.
I’ve spent the last two days developing my garden, planting out, feeling thankful and in my element! I was blessed to be buzzed by many bumbles, and fluttered-by by butterflies & dragonflies, accepted by a robin couple, and objected to by a beautiful tiny goldcrest... I can not begin to tell you how this has lifted my lonely self! I may have EDS, but I’ll be darned if I stand in my own way of doing what I love! ☺️ Justin made me miss my garden so much... I started up again (insert long illness story here) a few months ago! I’m drawing up plans and budgets for chickens and looking into Pygmy goats... not till next year now, I’d like some beds down first for chicken greens.... I see tons of woodchip in my future 🤣 ✌️🇬🇧
It is so fun when you move the sheep and cows. LOL Hope the pig escape problem is fixed. They crack me up. They walk a long ways to the house when they break out. Nice to see you and Jason doing things together. Jason misses his Bacon Brothers. Ha. They were escape artists for a bit too. Nice video. :-)
Justin. I've been seeing your issues with your pigs escaping. I use the same net and when pigs get out I put a brick between each post on the bottom non-electric wire. That slows them down trying to lift up on it, causing them to get shocked. Worth a try.
Don't know how efficient it would be but You could probably use a sous vide cooker. You don't even have to put it in a pot and it stops heating and holds desired temp as long as you want.
Miss Grandma And Big Daddy lol they need to come home ,stop traveling And while I'm at it where is Rachel missing her to. Justin how in the world can you get anything done ,with all THOSE BEAUTIFUL VIEWS ....JUST GORGEOUS.. LOVE YOUR VLOGS.
Yeaaa milkshake time for the chicken wranglers..... MARSHMALLOWS......we moved huge sows with them...you use it as a treat and they love them.... Can you put them in other areas more often...they get bored....we’d put piles of lettuce and veggies scraps, meat scraps etc underneath piles of tree brush...kept the hogs happy rooting around....
Oh oh oh! What fun! And a delightful memory. One boy, one brain etc was our phrase with three boys of our own, plus all the other 'usual suspects' (my nickname for a bunch of gorgeous lads) who were around. They may lose focus as the group grows bigger but they have heaps of fun. Love your parenting style.
I love you and your family. I couldn't sleep and happy I found one of your videos I haven't seen. Although I have watched many videos again and again. I thought the brain/boy thing was so funny. Take care and good luck with those stinkers (pigs and boys!!!!)
1 boy 2 boys 5 boys...stunned vacant look. JUSTIN you cracked me up. Thank you. I needed that. The dreaded poison ivy got me while I was trying to remove it. Lol. Deer eat my purple podded beans but doesn't touch the poison ivy. Ugh!
I have seen that 180 is pasturized and 115-118 is the time to add cultured, plain yogurt to warm milk to make yogurt on my yogurt maker temperature guage.
Maybe you could set up a game cam on the pigs to figure out what they're doing to get out? Or maybe they need a steel shaw like the sheep with a row or two of electric (aluminum) wire on the INSIDE??

I don't know if it's as cold as it was when I was young, that's 40+ years ago. Where we used to get in there are rocks so no diving, feet first. it's all crystal clear. never found a shark's tooth but they say they are there.
My family was watching the pig escape family was laughing, memories. We run a three strand hot wire around the 'mobile bacon units'. Works better than the net for us.
Justin: "...they're not following as good..." Me: "There's no SKIM in there." out loud, yes really. Back to the vid. So nice to see the TXBros back to visit and Jason take the plunge. But Grandma: I hope you are well and relaxing, we'll see you real soon ;)
I'm afraid Rebekah is right it's not so much hunger as boredom. Usually when pigs learn how to get out it's more of a game and hard to contain them. If we have one that gets out we usually move that one to keep them from training the other ones. If we can't break them they end up in sausage early. Good luck

Pigs are sociable and smart creatures .. they like you lot, you are their family/parents, and they want company. Hard to take in as they are destined to be dinner.

love the channel watch it everyday with my 6 year old he loves you guys. If you are feeding the pigs each time they escape the fence, be careful not to condition them. My first thought is that they know to find you when they are hungry knowing that it means a snack. But hopefully that shelter is the fix. Maybe they need something to play around with, or a bigger patch of land to be on. Perhaps they are bored. I don't know anything about pigs... Man, I gotta say, the time it took for Justin to stop Sally, open the door and jump out for the chickens was amazing HAHA..
I love the way you teach the children live type skills. Raising your own food is a great skill to develop. Great video. Thank you for sharing.
They don't like being all alone up on the hill and came to see you.

Your piggies love you! They break throw the fence to find you...Trail cam could help you see just how smart they are
i think it's funny and cute that the pigs know EXACTLY where to go to get 'daddy' to give them something to eat.
You have a very smart lil young boy helping you with your work and his growing so fast blessings he helps you a lot
Your children’s work ethic is amazing

You can attach a foot long metal spike with 3feet long chain to the mobile shelter and just put the spike in the ground and increase the feed for pigs
you guys should carry radios.
That pasture is glorious.
The pigs just love you so much! They miss seeing you and want to visit daily ;)
Greetings from South Africa, Justin. Love your channel. God Bless.
Justin. I've been seeing your issues with your pigs escaping. I use the same net and when pigs get out I put a brick between each post on the bottom non-electric wire. That slows them down trying to lift up on it, causing them to get shocked. Worth a try.

Justin how in the world can you get anything done ,with all THOSE BEAUTIFUL VIEWS ....JUST GORGEOUS..
LOVE YOUR VLOGS.
I watch your videos and I’m always amazed at how much you do! Amazing!
Always love seeing protects with Jason. Debra.
use two grounding rods, it will help complete the electric current through the fence and shock them better
Its a day for houdini escape artist animals! I love your mentality with it all. Still so positive and problem solving.
Yeaaa milkshake time for the chicken wranglers..... MARSHMALLOWS......we moved huge sows with them...you use it as a treat and they love them....

Why don't you install a couple Wildlife Cameras near the pigs to determine how they're getting out?
I love you and your family. I couldn't sleep and happy I found one of your videos I haven't seen. Although I have watched many videos again and again. I thought the brain/boy thing was so funny. Take care and good luck with those stinkers (pigs and boys!!!!)
The pigs are like HEY, Were Bored and coming to hang out. What ya got to munch on? YEs that sounds like a couple of boys coming over.
We had a spigot in our trough to hook on a hose and drain into a garden or grass.
Hi.... Justin Rhodes nice to see you, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐕🐖🐈🌱🐑🐄💒🎥👍👍👍
At least the pigs come home to you , instead of running away.
They came to the food source. They need more food. Good luck!
Maybe a little Chickasaw bridge. Sounds like it would be right up Jonah’s alley with a bit of Dad input
Well --- atleast they came to the house this time!! They know who feeds them! That was a long journey for heaven sakes.
I like when you pointed at the ground and said kids! More snacks! Lol.
. Kinda cute how the pigs always run towards you, even as they escape. 🤣 At least they are coming home
You could stake down the bottom line on the fence. that way, if they try to lift up the fence, they'll get shocked just trying. Just a thought.
1 boy 2 boys 5 boys...stunned vacant look. JUSTIN you cracked me up. Thank you. I needed that. The dreaded poison ivy got me while I was trying to remove it. Lol. Deer eat my purple podded beans but doesn't touch the poison ivy. Ugh!
Man you have some good helpers!!
Thank you for answering that question about the "sea monsters", I've been so curious!
I have seen that 180 is pasturized and 115-118 is the time to add cultured, plain yogurt to warm milk to make yogurt on my yogurt maker temperature guage.
Very good pigs keeper with cute a little helper, nice sharing 👍
Maybe you could set up a game cam on the pigs to figure out what they're doing to get out? Or maybe they need a steel shaw like the sheep with a row or two of electric (aluminum) wire on the INSIDE??
It would be great to see more about your cats, what they are catching and how much, how much ground they are covering.
What a rough day on the farm! But you guys handled it as always.
We used to swim at Silver Glen Springs in Florida, there used to be mother of pearl in the boil. Very pretty. but our fingers would get numb and your ears would hurt, you'd have to get out and warm up before going back in. we'd swim over schools of fish and drop bread (hamburger buns). I don't know if it's as cold as it was when I was young, that's 40+ years ago. Rock Springs is cool, too, the boil comes out of a cave (that was barred up to prevent tragedy) and flows down a winding creek pretty fast and dumps into the lake. You can float it. Where we used to get in there are rocks so no diving, feet first. it's all crystal clear. never found a shark's tooth but they say they are there.
I would love to see a separating cream vlog and cooking one with your farm food!
Bees would love that clover and your gardens...
Justin you need bluetooth sensors on those fences to make sure they are on/off
I'm afraid Rebekah is right it's not so much hunger as boredom. Usually when pigs learn how to get out it's more of a game and hard to contain them. If we have one that gets out we usually move that one to keep them from training the other ones. If we can't break them they end up in sausage early. Good luck
Pigs on the Loose ! 🐖 They look like they know exactly where home is 🏡
Y'all are Truly Blessed to have Wonderful Children that help do the work. Especially this day and time♡♡♡ That's pretty hard to find. GOD BLESS EVERYONE ♡♡♡ CONGRATULATIONS to y'all's Precious children ♡♡♡ CONGRATULATIONS to y'all for teaching them to work☆♡☆♡☆♡☆ This brings back alot of Precious Memories of my childhood. Put a trail Camera up to see how they are geting out
You need to get a trail camera to get shots of the pigs escaping. Now that would be interesting.
Pigs are sociable and smart creatures .. they like you lot, you are their family/parents, and they want company. Hard to take in as they are destined to be dinner.
Piggies just want company! They hear all that fun stuff going on, you know. Oh my goodness! Cows and pigs both on the run! Some days are party days I guess.
Those pigs coming down the lane! Cracked me up.
What type of egg layers do you recommend for a chicken tractor and a suburban yard
On a hot day that tub looks marvelous!
We always said, “Sooey, Sooey, Sooey!” That’s traditional. 🤣🐷🐽🐷🐽
Maybe a night camera to check where and how pigs are escaping.
This is the best stuff - IMO - what doesn't work, and the smarts to share it :) We love the drama, and the suspense to find the solution. I think it's a gift to one another to be transparent about ups and downs... what works and what doesn't... saves many from the same mistake, and encourages humility and fellowship... thanks a big bunch! : ) (There's a reason you're approaching 700K!)
Love your channel, learn so much from you all. I have 2 questions.1.)What is the breed of your turkeys? 2.) Also can you please explain your grit? I live in eastern NC and during this coronavirus lock down, I had a hard time finding grit and sometime even feed due to it being sold out. I see you sourced it from your land, which in turn lead me to wonder what self sufficient ways might I be able to source grit for my chickens?
Good luck with the pigs, which do seem to head for the garage, maybe remembering early days in the stall. Do you ever count your walking steps after all chores and tasks are done?
Just a thought: thinking of chicken coops but for pigs. What if you made a 12' X 12' X H 30" - 35" frame with wood with idea like a picket fenced moveable. And can also, to back it up put electric fence inside? But it would be able to push or pull? If all else fails a few stakes to secure it?
I know y’all miss GMom, great video! 👍👍👍💯💯💯
Sooner or later you’re going to have to go to something more permanent with your “grid”, something with wooden corner posts that can have three wires or more, for the pigs and cows, wires that you can make hot at any level based on what’s in a particular enclosure, and the moveable gates. Don’t ask me what you’re going to do with the chickens and turkeys, since you don’t have the setup like Joel Salatin does for his broilers and turkeys, but you could still use your mesh just inside the three wire system, you will just have to weed whack more. BTW...did you ever train those pigs with the 11k volt charge like Joe Salatin suggested. If you did, you would think you wouldn’t have a loose pig problem.
The lowest temperature for pasteurization is 145 degrees F and it has to be kept there for 30 minutes, so I think it would still be considered "raw" ;)
Great video, @ 13:30 that cow almost kicked you, wow that was close.
love the channel watch it everyday with my 6 year old he loves you guys. Just my experience here but we hand feed pigs 2x everyday, they never squeal at us like yours do both this batch and your previous. I've always assumed they weren't getting enough from the scraps you feed. Now we only feed a balanced feed ratio since we are raising purebred breeding stock. But I will say in my early years before I put together a good feeding program as soon as the back door on the house opened the sows would start squealing until the feed hit the pan. When I watch you feed pigs it still triggers me to that noise (like nails on a chalk board) from a decade ago. Either way I feel ya it's never great knowing an animal has figured out the electric fence, every time you leave its nerve racking not knowing if they'll be out when you get home. Good luck
Hey Justin have you thought about putting a game cam out to see just how the pigs are getting out?
The pig 🐖 roaming around like nobody business hahahahha 🤣😂😅
Pigs are on Rumspringa
For your tomatillo plant, can't you root one of the suckers to make your second plant for pollination?
If you are feeding the pigs each time they escape the fence, be careful not to condition them. My first thought is that they know to find you when they are hungry knowing that it means a snack. But hopefully that shelter is the fix. Maybe they need something to play around with, or a bigger patch of land to be on. Perhaps they are bored. I don't know anything about pigs...
