  • How To Train Pigs To Electric Fence - SIMPLE Set-up That Works
    Many folks are interested in raising pigs but are afraid of the expensive infrastructure that is required to care for them, particularly the cost of fencing. What if you could raise pigs with minimal cost, on pasture that was simple and easy. Today we are showing our simple set-up that works to keep pigs on pasture.
    We are also going to talk a little about loading pigs in a trailer and show our boar who is now in with a group of female pigs for breeding.

    I’ve been having a debate with my father in law. He REFUSES to believe u can raise hogs on wire.
    I keep telling him. Jack. Chuck here does it with ALL his pigs. Even shows you how to do it.
    I’m going to send him this video and end the debate
    Have a great day Chuck. Thanks again

      It just takes a little training but it can be done. We keep 700lb sows in with a single strand. Good luck

    I have two 50 kg and five 30 kg pigs on our farm in the Philippines. I’m trying to convince my beloved that movable pastures and grass fed pigs makes better pork. Better for ground. Better for health of livestock etc. Thanks for the video.
    We lent $650 for 5000 square meters of grass and orchard. Multiple fruit trees and loads of Karaboa ( Filipino water Buffalo ) grass. I’m paying people to cut down the grass with bolo and a stick. I think better to run the pigs on it. Maybe mixed grazing with sheep and goats first followed by pigs. Rotate frequently

    Hello! I realize i'm 2 years after you released this video, so hopefully you see this question. I see you raise your pigs on single strand electric. But in other videos you have them in pens. Is there a rhyme and reason to when they go to pasture and when they're in a pen? Also, do you have a fence running around the perimeter of your property in case they get out of their paddock? Thanks for your help and the great videos!

      We start piglets off in opens to train them to the wire. Once they are trained they go out onto pasture to finish. Yes. We have a perimeter fence on the property. Thanks for watching.

    2 questions for you.
    1. - can I intergrate new pigs with existing? If so, what's the best way instead of having a bunch of pens? We have 2, 4mo old gilts & would like to get a couple more piglets, at least 1 boar to breed the one gilt.
    2. Have you had any issues at all with your pigs having worms from being raised on pasture/dirt instead of on concrete? We have a neighbor that says he will never eat pig that isn't raised on concrete because of worms. Claims he knows someone who's butchered hog was riddled with worms in the meat. 🙃

      Yep. Tried again yesterday. Tester says 8000v DC they were screaming every time they went through it. I’m stuck for now. Thinking about a 120 volt charger and just run a trunk line on my perimeter fence so I can attach to it. I haven’t found any netting that isn’t back orders. I’ve got to get them out of the small pen.

  • @austinbyler6325
    @austinbyler6325 3 года назад +1

    Do you ever have issues when you take down the trailer pen with the pigs not wanting to cross where the wire originally was? I've heard of pigs not crossing where a wire once was even though it was taken down.

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  3 года назад +1

      Sometimes they are hesitant but they will eventually cross. Have to give them some time. As they get older, the more they move the faster they cross. These guys took about 10 minutes for everyone to come out of the pen.

    • @Skashoon
      @Skashoon Год назад

      Easiest way to get around that is to put up a removable, plywood sheet with t posts as a physical gate. Pigs will go through there. Then move that plywood to where you’ll move them next.

    Is it possible to train older pigs in this manner, ones who have never had the electric exposure

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  2 года назад

      I think it’s possible. I’d try it the same way with a training pen. Big difference I think is you’d want to make sure the training pen was pretty strong and they couldn’t bust out easily.

    • @SheratonParkFarms

    Morning. Why the cattle panels if you have a hot wire in the training pen

    • @yeagerxp
      @yeagerxp 3 года назад

      The hot wire is about six inches away from the pig panel, the pigs go nose around that wire they get shocked. As Chuck stated in the video it takes from a few hours to a couple of days for the pigs to get the message "Don't mess with the wire" then he moves the pigs.

    • @buckied1
      @buckied1 3 года назад

      They have to have something they can’t run through on the back side of the wire so they learn to back up instead of running through it.
