I just found y'all, maybe a month ago, and really appreciate your content. I'm moving to the family farm within the next year and pigs are definitely on my list of animals to raise. I raised 8 feeders, 2 different times and loved it. Needless to say, this video really got me itching to get to it. Those are some amazing looking hogs! Thank you!
I love Saundra's laugh! Congratulations on your sales! 🐷🐖Awesome! Forest management question: when, or do you, remove rocks that the pigs have exposed and what do you plan to do with them? Perhaps I missed that video. Thanks for sharing.
Woot! Casrtraighting was a great event! Pigllets grew great!! Life on the Farm was GOOD!!! Not sure how you do it now, but we slit the bag and popped the nut out, cut it off and put "black tar" on, then, let them go. Black tar was a thick medicated substance that stopped the bleeding and helped heal the wound. Pigs only squealed for a minute and they were good! Since we grew for ourselves, we processed ourselves and ate everything but the squeal💞
That's the same black salve mom use to put on us kids. She put on everything. Dog, cats, kids. She even gave us a little ball of it for occasional itchy butt....lol
Beautiful, beautiful!! I ordered some electric fence Energizer and wire and I'm moving out to the pasture. Should be easy for me because I'm in the tropics. Thanks to your videos
I watch your videos when they come out and try to recognize by a thumbs up. Oofff. The numbers your talking of loss is tough..That hits hard when your small farm..You need every head to count from start to finish. Hope you can recoup. Appreciate ALL Your vids!!
You can fix that hernia when you castrate. You will have to cut a little lower. Then gently slide the intestines back into the inner cavity. Use a tiny zip/wire tie. Put it around the membrane and slide it as deep as you can. Tighten the tie and use a pair of needle nose pliers or forceps to pull on the tie and use your thumb to hold were the tie slides though itself. Then cut the tie flush. Make sure it is flush. Cut the testicle. Spray with iodine. Do not stitch it will let any possible infection drain. Give antibiotics or food that will bolster his immune system, like yogurt. P.S. chicken like the testicles its a good souce of protein.
We have started taking big groups at a time. We’ll run at least 10 in a group that we intend to take all at one time. We 9 in February 10 last month and 10 next month. Two litters on the ground and two due next month.
Love your pasture set up for pigs. How many acres is the group of feeders on that are rotating weekly? And how many paddocks do you have out of those acres? Thanks and appreciate your videos!
When you send the sow “down the road” is she getting processed? Does age matter in the meat quality? Do you just have ground pork from an older pig or can you still have the normal cuts?
for the least effect on piglets they should be castrated at 3-10 days of age. I also suggest in you all doing some reccord keeping on your sows as to how many they are having per litter, who they were bred by, when bred, when they had litter, when weaned, how many weaned, and so on. it helps you make better business decisions instead of trying to remember things. I run records even on the litter and write down details on each piglet when I notch and castrate (if needed) at 3-10 days. Does the mother lay on piglets? That is a bad trait and she needs to go. Does she take longer to bounce back from a litter, does she consume more feed?
Just found the channel. I’m going to start raising pigs for my personal meat but I was wanting to go ahead and start trying to get a boar and sow but have u noticed a temperament issue with having them in close proximity?
pig fence (you have 1 electric wire on the inside with a white netting outside the electric wire) - what type of fence is the white netting fence is it? name brand? is it also "hot"?
@@SheratonParkFarms I have seen them on the auction advertisements lately. Ritchie bros and another one that is 3 letters. Not ALS but it makes me think of it when I see it flash by. Similar letters.
At 1.50-2.50 per square foot per month....when does it become more efficient to keep them on the hoof? In addition, if the power goes out or forbid a compressor, you would risk loosing an entire herd worth of meat in 48 hours.
I got 3 piglets for sale my question is how do you get in the market of selling the meat and or the pigs so you’re not sitting on them very long I would like to get in to raising pigs and chickens with doing my honeybees
So many people that raise pigs are getting out and raising something else because of the high feed prices. Any one who can stay in and find cheaper feed ( pastured pigs) can make a go of it. If you can find a brewery to sell you there hops you can get a cheap supplement to mix with your feed. If you have cattle farms handy you can get last years bales of hay the cows will not eat, just throw it out ...good for the soil and the pigs will eat a lot of it.
Well I have a question as I’m new to this. I DO NOT understand all this legal stuff on the USDA and the such. So what do I need in order to sell these pigs and chickens and quail and rabbits? I absolutely do not understand all of this legal stuff and I’m loosing my mind!! 😅 if anyone cares to slap in here what registrations or certifications I need to fill out and send off that would be great. I would ask my wife because she is super smart but she doesn’t believe in me on this so I’m basically doing it all myself and I’m stumped!
County extension agent, or ask around at the auction at the nearest livestock sale barn, or livestock association in your state or county . Let people show off how much they know.
i was wondering do u have to have a licence to resale ur meat we raise r own beef an pork here ive had people want me to sell them a calf an feed it out
Having 100lbs of sausage to sell at once would probably tempt you to accept a cheaper price to get the quick cash. Or being nervous that you weren't emptying or the freezer quick enough for the next giant shipment. Not having that option keeps you holding to the accurate pricing for your quality product. Bigger is not always better.
Any thoughts on holding back some breeding stock from your super star black sow? Seems like her genetics could get you back on track even sooner than expected.
People made money in the old days because they didn’t need $100k worth of machines and feeders etc… people are lazy today. Let me know how I am wrong. Worker issues were around than also and I am old enough to remember.
Ms. Sandra is on top of the data, number and quick witted memory. She is a gem!
Wow! That looks like hog heaven! Appreciate you and the care you give to your animals!
Pigs are looking great!
God bless you and your family!!
Something about watching a pig scratch makes me laugh every time!
God bless you and your family. 🙋🏻♀️♥️🇺🇸
That's a great dilemma , get / keep more pigs ( sows ) for next year!

Thanks. Appreciate y’all watching
What do you think about the American Guinea Hog breed for a grow out operation?
When you overseed are you broadcasting by hand or using machinery?

A.I. will be taking office workers jobs... and Boars jobs to.
Yep 🤣🤣
Not the boars, they work for free, and you can eat them.

Awesome do you have any problems with boars around piglets in your operation?
Have you looked at getting a used reefer trailer and run on solar?
No. We hadn’t considered that. Interesting idea.

Will you be showing us out here in RUclips land video's on AI? Would really like to hear all about the process from you guys
Lease a reefer.
Send hogs to butcher then back up the reefer a couple days later once they're boxed up.
Is raising in the woods better for taste or cheaper to raise
I have 8 processed in the freezer. Do you have tips on how to get it moving (selling it)?
Will the processor ship directly to the customer?

In addition, if the power goes out or forbid a compressor, you would risk loosing an entire herd worth of meat in 48 hours.
Can I come and visit your farm soon
Is the one leaving going to freezer camp being that old
I got 3 piglets for sale my question is how do you get in the market of selling the meat and or the pigs so you’re not sitting on them very long I would like to get in to raising pigs and chickens with doing my honeybees
All those trees around them, & they only seem to have stripped the bark of saplings & barely touched the mature ones.one that I could see?

What's the timing on the pest cycle for pigs?
I honestly don’t know. It is probably different for different stories of pest.
Do yal bring the hats to the farmers markets to sell?
We haven’t been but certainly could.
I've heard it's difficult to AI pigs. Can you speak to that?
Not difficult at all. We’ve Duke a couple of videos on the topic.

Yes. In NC we have to have a meat handlers license. Reach out to your local agriculture extension agent to see what your state requires.

People are buying cheaper cuts obviously that's why sausages are going out the door. Grass fed pork is the best pork.

Yep. That’s part of the plan. She’s an awesome sow.
