  • A video comparing two scenarios with Snow Tires VS All Season Tires
All Season Tires are Falken Sincera SN250 in size 175 65 R15
Snow Tires are Nokian Nordman 5 in size185 65 R14
Both sets of tires have "one season" but the Nokians definitely have deeper tread.
Falken All Season TIres have around 36k miles on them
Nokian Snow Tires have 7-10k miles on them

Is this Fit manual or automatic ? I am guessing that might make a slight difference in handling?
I’m in the Pacific Northwesr with an older Fit stick shift. Haven’t had it in winter yet. We don’t typically get snow and ice here, but when we do, the city just grinds to a halt. I guess chains may be an option since most of the unpleasantness here in winter is wet roads and dingbat drivers who don’t understand physics.
At any rate, great video. The data is very interesting and I like the graphics .

      This is an automatic.
I have a video about tire chains and they’re fantastic if it’s icey or that slippery wet snow. If all seasons normally get you by except for 1 or 2 snowfall events I would recommend a set of chains over a set of snow tires. They fit well in with the spare tire.
In a world where money was no object have both a dedicated set of snows and tire chains.

So the snow tires were much better or not significant in difference?

They were much better. They felt better and the data at 3:10 kind of sums up the difference. A stop from 60mph was 200ft shorter with snow tires which is 2/3rds of a football field. To me that is definitely worth it.

@thehondafitguy Good to know! This will be my 1st winter in Minnesota w a Honda Fit. I've gotten conflicting advice over whether or not I need snow tires, but this seals the deal. I'm getting them!

I'm in northwest Ohio and looking at the Fit. I can't imagine swapping tires every winter!! Is this the only option if you want safe driving in the snowy season? @@thehondafitguy

@@tiptopgemdotcomthe fit doesn’t perform worse than your average front wheel drive car does but snow tires will significantly improve any car’s handling in snow and ice.
Being part of lake effect land I would recommend snow tires to you.
If you drive 10,000 miles or less a year you could just leave them on all year. If you drive more than that I recommend getting a set on rims.
I can change mine in the driveway in about 20 minutes and that includes getting things out and putting them away. Its what I did twice for this video.
Check out facebook marketplace. I have multiple times bought snowtires on rims for less than $200 for a set. Just make sure the rims are 4x100 and the tires are close to the same size.
These sizes are all tires that I’ve had on.

Another option if you’re only worried about getting home on terrible days is tire chains but they will limit you to 20-30 mph. I have a video on those as well.
