    You should do a side by side taste comparison of fresh broth next to canned broth next to freeze dried reconstituted broth - kinda like you did with the eggs! Would love to know if they all taste the same.

    Becky…I feel like you are an old soul. How you view things & how you are homesteading is a thing of the past for someone as young as yourself. The fact your parents only did gardening on a small level just goes to show this is something near j dear to your heart. Of course now you have the perfect space to have an amazing garden. Now that your Dad is retired I can tell your parents enjoy coming over & helping you. Gives them a chance to “garden” without having to deal with it on a FT scale. Your parents are just awesome. Actually your entire family is. After all life would be boring without family. I think they enjoy coming & helping you as well. Plus you pay it forward in canned & fresh goodies. ♥️. Keep it up kiddo. You will only continue to learn what works best & become an expert.

      Hi Martha. Yes it's very simple. I make the stock as usual (bones, vegetables, herbs, water and sometimes wine if I'm feeling fancy, simmered on the top of the cooker or in a slow cooker). Then strain the liquid - I line a strainer with clean muslin to make sure I catch everything - into a saucepan and reduce by half over a high heat. When it's cool, fill ice cube trays and freeze.

    Everyone should be creating food security in their homes. Prices continue to rise and shortages are happening whether you see it in your stores or not. Don't hoard everything at once but pick up a few extra shelf stable items and preserve what you can. Labor Day weekend wiped stores around me clean. I've never seen a Holiday empty stores before. It took them over a week to restock all the shelves. That should tell you something.

    Couple of questions: 1) How many times in a row can you run the freeze dryer before there's too much ice build up and you HAVE to defrost it? 2) What kind of repair/maintenance is involved with a freeze dryer?
    Loved the video, thanks!

    • @kristydechant7120
      @kristydechant7120 2 года назад +1

      Hi Carole, Harvest Right says to defrost after every batch. If you do not this causes the freeze dryer to work harder and not as efficiently. This can be done by the built in heater the freeze dryer has or you can leave the door and the valve open and let it defrost naturally. Depending on where you're at and your climate which you would prefer. As for maintenance you need to filter and or change the oil. If something does break they have a really awesome customer service system that will either tell you if you need to bring out to repairman or how to fix it yourself.

    I LOVE your channel! I had never canned before I found you. You have changed my cooking. I love cooking but due to a medical condition that makes it hard. I use to grocery shop on Sundays and then cook all the meals for the week which usually made 2 meals from my recipes. I use gallon size bags for the extra meals and I freeze them flat. We live in the country and don’t go out to eat like we had before, because there is nothing by us except at the gas station deli. I am currently on the look for an upright freezer! So again THANK YOU! 🥰

    I'm so jealous of the freeze dryer but not owning a home makes this impossible at this time.

    Freeze drying that bone broth is awesome and it takes up less space once it’s all freeze dried and your powder it it’s gonna be probably less than a quarter of what you actually had to start with and it’s concentrated

    I went to Dollar Tree and bought 8 of the 8.5”x6.5” Betty Crocker baking pans, they are my extra set of pre-freeze trays. When I’m ready to load the FD I just pop the frozen food out of these little trays and put it on the FD trays, two fit perfectly on each. Then I can prepare and pre-freeze my next batch to be FD.

    Missed having you do the taste test at the end like you did with the eggs. I love you videos. I’m learning right along side you and Budgeting so we can buy the freeze dryer also.
    Would love a video of how you clean and set up your oven.

    Hey sweetie... couple of things. You absolutely have to defrost the fder every time. Every. Single. Time. You can have the machine do that (which is what I do) or I've heard about people who put a fan on it and pull out the ice once it's partially melted. I just do other things, packaging up the food asap, washing trays, prepping food, etc. Also another thing, I learned from others that a frozen turkey can be cooked in a pressure cooker for 2 hours. Yup... I tried it and it's amazing. I put the turkey (I've done 16# turkeys) in there, an onion, 2 celery stalks, 2 carrots, pepper corns & bay leaves, fill up to the fill line and put it on the stove. Mind you this is my pressure canner that I stack pints 2 high in. Once it's rocking, I set the timer for 2 hours. I let it cool, put the turkey on a cookie sheet to cool faster, bottle up the turkey with broth that I just made. Take the bones, put them in my instantpot filled (to the fill line) with the same seasonings I did with the turkey, and do a 1 1/2 hr cycle and then I have even more broth and I can that up too. I hope this helps.
