    A gift to every man, woman and child, from the Brotherhood of Nod. Victory - not just for our people, but for our species. The time for questioning is over. Rising from our trenches, our bunkers, our factories, we must all now partake - in the technology of Wooting.
    You're the first covering Toggle key as highlight with a cool example! I hear you on the double-tap option, we already have something related planned for Mod-tap, and will see if it makes sense to have it for Toggle key.

    • @ilikehiking
      @ilikehiking Год назад +1

      @@colbyboucher6391 I own a Fjell and have used it consistently for about half a year, and I don't consider programmable layers to be an equally viable alternative to having extra keys available. Needing to press two keys for a single action means that you have one less finger available at that moment to do something else, not to mention that it is inherently slower. For MMO/RTS games that are heavy in keybindings, having extra keys available is very valuable. Another thing worth mentioning is productivity. If you're proficient with task automation using Python/AutoHotKey, having extra keys available to dedicate to scripts is really handy.
      The 75, or perhaps 65XT layouts add extra keys without taking up that much extra space.

    I loath that handle thing, but I'd love to get a TKL version. All they have to do now is add a micro-actuator to strike the keystem at the point of actuation, and I'll be happy.

    • @dalriada842
      @dalriada842 Год назад +4

      I'd like a full size keyboard with the micro-actuators, and a speaker producing a pleasant "thock" sound at the actuation point. The 'tactile' or 'clicky' features could be disabled if not preferred. For keys set up with multiple actuation points, the intensity of both outputs would be variable in strength. I'd also like there to be a standardised open lighting API for keyboards, such that holding down any modifier key results in all the available options for that key being highlighted for the currently in-focus app, or desktop environment/window manager. This should also work when multiple modifier keys are held down. Current keyboard lighting is a massive waste of potential.

      Any kind of physical feedback in the middle of the keystroke kind of gets in the way of the whole analog keyboard idea. I'm married to the buckling spring and think linear is a gross development from people who were weaned on bad keyboards and never learned what a good keyboard is, but the analog mechanism is actually a legitimate functional justification for the zero feedback linear keystroke

    • @greyareaRK1
      @greyareaRK1 Год назад +3

      @@davidy22 It's presumed the actuator would adjust with the activation setting, or could even be turned off. It's an aspiration more than a serious request, and would no doubt be very expensive to implement.

    • @dalriada842
      @dalriada842 Год назад

      @@greyareaRK1 I generally agree. Though such a keyboard could potentially meet the needs of most high end keyboard users, and could therefore be mass produced to bring down the price. A single keyboard that could be software configurable to be linear, tactile, or clicky. With the features enabled or disabled on a per key basis to suite the user. If someone wanted a purely analogue input from a key, they could set it up that way.

The PBT caps that come with them now are really nice, and I haven't even been using the analog functions, but the quality of the keyboard itself is fantastic. If I had any use for a 60%, I would definitely get the 60HE. I don't really understand the point of them besides portability, to which the strap is understandable, but most people really won't need to be taking a keyboard around with them.

      One obvious benefit of a 60% keyboard is that it takes up much less desk space. I personally play fps games on a low sensitivity and love to move my mouse around a lot. Another advantage is the fact that it is more ergonomic, because more or less all the keys are able to be reached without moving your hands a lot and many functions are mapped in layers. Like: F5 is fn + 5 and so on. Still I totally get the fact that a lot of people need dedicated function keys, arrow keys and so on. The best balance for my personal taste is a 75% which I'm using right now, but I plan to replace it with a wireless 60% and play around with layers a lot.

      there 2 points to this. one is the style community, wanna have minimalistic workspaces, apple style. they dont need numkeypad (they dont do real work anyway) and they never understood what the fkeys or arrowkeys do.
      but the main point here is gaming, specially FPS comeptitive. most people and their dog who take this serious play with really low sense and gigantic mousepads.
      a small keybaord allows you better range of motion while having your your shoulder not extended. that avoids a ton of issues with your nerves and muscles down the line.
      in the past some kids started to hold keybaords in an angle, even 90 degree rotations have been seen to combat that problem. 60% idea is to allow those left swipes without that.
      that said i need my Fkeys, i want my numberspad back. i have a 10keyless apex pro, but really one one hadn i want may num key back on the other the extgra space is nice.
      and now im looting at wooting for the rapid trigger function :)

    It's great, Chyrosran22. I am three years into use with my *Ace Pad Tech 60%*. It has several distinct issues, but the typing of the switch is a strong and distinctly better experience over MX Red switches where I had began two years earlier.
    I love the sound of those ALPS switches you showed once, particularly I believe _"ALPS SKCM Orange."_ I know the Matias board review you did also favored my ears.
    I do appreciate sound, but feel and then form factor are my biggest interests, I think. I do want a smaller board, and I have always believed want a heavier typing experience. I think I'm going to act on that in 2023 or 2024.
    I am hoping to try altering switches by adjusting their springs. Apparently most of these things are like 40 to 60 grammes actuation? I cannot know where I'd want to be.
    On the note of feel, the whole reason I've ever gone for these linear, non-"clicky" sorts of switches is because I feel more in this utilitarian headspace. I feel more physical about the board. I want it to do the purpose, serve the purpose.
    And so that comes down to what I think are the springs. I am hoping by making the keyboard be at the right sort of like... stiffness or resistance, to the heaviness of my typing, that I can achieve a more satisfying, quality, and indeed consistent and reliable typing experience. I've always been the bottoming-out sort of heavy-handed clacking typist. I don't know that I want to stop bottoming out as a means of saying _"hey, this keyboard is great for me,"_ but I think I want the thing to be more matched to my brutal hands. I am going to beat this damn keyboard!
    I kid. I am not going to beat this damn keyboard. We do not do that around here. We do not beat keyboards.
    But I maybe I'll get a nice super durable keyboard so I can beat it. Do you see how Chryosran22 seems to take pleasure in dropping those heavy kilogramme keyboards on their wooden desk? I've seen them drop battleships and battlecruisers and resonate in my ears!

      Thanks for your suggestion, Duncan. It's something I wll think about and evaluate as options on which direction I move forward with keyboards.
      I am happy with what I have. But I am curious. I've only tried two things, and I _imagine_ based on how I type that either a strongly light or strongly heavy keyboard is preferrable me. Because I sometimes actuate keys accidentally, I assume that I need heavier responses and not lighter ones. But I also generally feel interested in that heavier feel.
      I wonder if the "box navy" is able to have its clickiness removed. I'd want to get rid of the clicky sound signature if it doesn't affect the stiff tactility.
      I was thinking I'd need to acquire this effect by way of changing the springs, but Chrysoran22's video suggests that the stiffness is achieved by another means. At least that's what I interpreted. That's interesting.
      Chryosran22 did again mention the Matias Click switch, which I know was already something I found attractive, both in sound signature and board design.
      Thanks, Duncan. :) Things to think about and weigh into my decisions.

    I do hope that Wooting makes a fullsize keyboard with that case bezzle of this 60HE, those cases where the switches are exposed just kinda look like unfinished shite to me (though I am still tempted to get their current fullsized keyboard)
    Also I greatly empathize with your lack of patriotism. As a resident of Lawrence, Kansas myself I consider anywhere outside the county as the barren over-privatized hell hole that is is, and I think it as nothing short of a miracle that prop 2 didn't come to pass here

I still prefer short travel keyboard, nad for work I use the magic keyboard on my Mac. Great having touch id, and it works like a charm, no problem with bluetooth connection.

    I'd say the sling thing is there so you can easily get it out of a backpack or shoulder bag. Not a bad thing on some bags, I have a Ogio Mach 5 Motorcycle backpack and on the big pockets my keybord is sometimes a bit of a bitch to take out. The sling would help, I think. But yeah for other uses, its stupid.
