Those are great tips! My favorites are: Throw what you know (i.e. your favorite discs) and It's ok to lay up. I have saved so many strokes just by putting a disc at the bottom of the pole to take a par instead of running it to take a bogey or worse.

    Great content!!! Some bonus tips:
    1) Play your own game. Trying to do crazy stuff outside your "ability window" because someone on your card is throwing huge bombs will just earn you mistakes.
    2) find your optimum disc weight and have all your mids, fairways and drivers in that weight. Heavier discs slip out of your grip early, lighter discs come out late. A certain weight for YOU comes out closer to your intended line at a higher percentage. Mine is 169-170.
    3) Manage your aggressiveness. If the odds of you getting a 2 or a 3 on a hole are very low, then the odds of you messing up and adding strokes are high. Instead come up with a play for the guaranteed 3 or 4. Not adding the stress of those unforced errors will help you shoot better on other holes.
    4) Practice a "barrel putt" or "dad-putt" for those times when running a 20-30 footer could cost you extra strokes like OB behind the basket or a drop-off. Think of it as trying to drop it in the basket on a lob trajectory without chains. At least you still have a chance to make it but drop within 5 feet.
    5) think like a boyscout and "Be Prepared" A towel, drink, alcohol wipes for pine pitch, powder, range finder, pencil etc.
    6) practice specific upshot distances like 50' 100' 150' with flicks and backhands. A rangefinder only helps you if you've practiced the distances so you know what to throw.
    7) at a new course look at the distance on the tee sign and play it like it's 30' longer and you're more likely to land pin high.

When it comes to the edge of your putting range, like in his tip 2 where he said it's better to lay up: A lot of time there's a 3rd option. Maybe your normal putt with a normal putter could leave you 25 feet away for a scary comebacker.
Instead of giving up on making the putt and laying up, you can throw a different shot, like a putt with a low-glide disc with a berg. It's a little harder to make (maybe 10% instead of 20% make chance), but is unlikely to be 25 feet past. You could also throw an overstable approach disc on a bit of hyzer for a similar effect, a bit tougher to make but there's still a chance, and your comebacker will still be easily makeable.

1:48 Disc down to hit the fairway.
4:56 Lay up an unlikely putt (especially if facing likely long comeback).
    9:02 Throw your preferred throws.
11:41 Scramble out of the woods by any means necessary. Find the gap, get creative and hit it.
13:20 Throw your favourite discs, the ones you know best.
15:42 Avoid out of bounds at all costs.
17:12 Throw lower lines to minimize error.

One minor correction regarding the upshot bit: most players, pros at least, suggest that throwing the shot that hyzers against the wind is more predictable and helps control the distance, rather than the one that the wind helps sweep over. Unless you need to get around a corner or take a big skip or something. So where you said right to left wind might make backhand seem obvious, I would say that makes backhand tougher on that shot than a left to right.

Great video and throwing it low is so key also why I do not like 6-7 glide discs… they just sail way too high

As a mediocre player myself (I'm happy to hit Par... And on 2 local courses I haven't even managed managed that (There's a left side River and a tree lined boulder dash involved.. nuf said)
Anyhooze... Some tips (especially for the player just looking to be OK... (Rather than way out the back)...
1: Almost all beginners Hyzer their shots while trying to learn everything all at once (like X-Step, Reach back, The pocket etc...
Forget ALL those things and work on 1 thing before all those others... Stand up a little straighter, don't run in... just learn to throw the disc FLAT... Once you can throw it flat you can proceed!
(I give people a good starters tip.. Just stand sideways to the target and pull a disc back and forth across your chest, Armpit height, like your sawing yourself in half... Don't look at the target...
Now let it go at the target.. still not looking... (in fact look down at the disc in front of your chest while doing this to see it FLAT not tipped down)... This often gets them their 1st straight throw.
2: Aim at the basket (or at least to the right (if your a right arm backhander)... As Trevor said above.. up in the air means it travels off course further...
3: Learn how to throw a disk a million different ways... (oh that's exaggerating.. half that)... For example I have a swamp find Tesla.. It's a little more over stable than it should be but gives me a nice flat straight.. followed by an ADHD moment when the disc realises it was supposed to fade.. so it hangs a hard last minute left....
So.. I don't throw forehand.. but that thing just feels great in my hand.. so now its a great forehand down a corridor and then hard left...
But there's more... on a flat field, thrown hard forehand on a 1pm steep angle.. it rolls off for... well I got a 260ft roller and 30ft putt on a 280ft hole last week just for uhhh... giggles...
But wait... It lobs over trees with the same angle to become a roller on the other side..
But wait... it does that great frisbee Hyzer above, Yeeted out to the right while staring at the basket..
But wait theres more... thrown on a 45deg hyzer at the ground gets a great skip for that "under branch and out round the tree" shot..
But wait... thrown from my side at 6pm up into the air and it drops back down spinning backward, great for a wet ground Tombstone.
Basically I throw about 12 discs.. and may not be the best at getting everything right... but I seem to get out of some really bad holes (rollaways into the undergrowth etc) with some odd throws.
4: for a 50ft upshot... try an over stable putter or soft sticky over stable mid... put it on a 30deg Anhyzer and throw it at the pin... not too hard...
I can empty my bag on my left hip without looking, put the disc by my left ear, and put them at the foot of the basket no matter what the numbers.. as they all basically fade to flat at about 50ft with a soft throw enough to just get it there...
(I also use a similar throw, up and to the right to finish 50ft away on a 50ft basket.. it flies straight & up. tips left and falls at about 45deg at the basket..
ok it doesn't often go in... but it either goes left, right, front, back of the basket within 4ft.. a drop in...
then you can combine the 2 with a Anhyzer flex at the basket that turns flat just before the chains.. and if it misses, usually only goes 10ft on.. but man a flex Anhyzer putt will impress people
but maybe you can leave that until you can THROW THE DISC FLAT.

I'm relatively new to the game, but one thing that has carried over from my archery experience is how important the mental game is. You have to learn to play smart. On my home course hole five is a 400ish par 3 with a single tree in the fairway, tree line to the left and open to the right. I can't hit the gap left yet with control, but I can get just right of the tree and par the hole easier than trying to force the gap. It's not pretty but I generally par the hole that the rest of the group doesn't.

This is a great video, but the “drivers are inaccurate” thing may be misleading to new players. If you shank a driver or a putter it’s going woods early - they are equally shankable. There are two issues with faster discs - they move more in flight to the right and left (generally speaking) and they kick way further off of trees. Tighter lines require slower discs and throwing lower. Even a putter will leave the fairway if you hang it 30 feet in the air and let it hyzer to the tree line.

Hey I’ve been playing disc golf for a year and a half to two years now and am trying to see there are any discs I should try and add to my regular use. I currently use a small variety of a disc including Innova Star shryke, Discraft NukeSS, Innova Firebird, Innova GlowTL, Innova Mako3, and Prodigy PA-3. My most used are the Shryke, Mako, and PA. Any other discs I should look into?

i would recommend the Zone, super grippy plastic and a great approach disc that fades right on a RHFH and left on a RHBH.

Stop overthinking and the thought of missing. Yea it will happen, but the chances of it missing skyrocket if you walk up to the putt worried about what happens when you miss.
