I have that exact bike in the 22" frame and the same Dolomite paint scheme. It's the 1991 model. I bought it new in Washington, rode it hard for 30,000 plus miles over the next 30 years, and it's still as good as new. They are truly one of the best bikes ever built.
This was great to watch! Thanks for taking care of that old girl. Friend of mine has an old Klein that I've ridden a few times. It's always a treat, you can really tell the difference.
Great restoration old shovel on that classic bike and cleaning up the classic parts you inspired me to like restoration old bikes and cleaning them keep the videos coming brother 🤘
I love how easily that front derailleur went on! If its the spring loaded type I've played with before...mine didn't go so easily. Thanks for sharing these videos and inspiring a new hobby for me!
I love swinging by the salt lake bicycle collective. Love checking out the used bikes and digging for parts for my old vintage bikes. And what a great cause!
Let's not forget the Bridgestone MB-1; fun little retro-rocket(!). Doing a 1 x 10 conversion (Advent X groupset), running 2.3s, and a wider riser bar adds some modern spice to the trusty steed. Borrowed a friend's; it was a blast. The Brooks saddle was super-nice too; took the sting out of washboard sections and crappy roads. Bike handled telepathically.
I had an 18 inch attitude i used to be a cycle courier in london i had slick tyres on it then id fit off road tyres at weekend and ride out to the country side, Did this every week for 6 years,Its still the best ride ive ever had .so smooth and the head bearings never needed looking at .I wish i kept it
I remember riding through the woods back in the 90s on my cheap mountain bike and seeing a guy who was riding a Klein. I’d see him every so often and boy did I drool over that bike. It was bright neon green.
Nice to have you back! And with a sweet Klein on top of everything, I've done a service on a Klein's attitude client not a long time ago and it was a pleasure to work on it. Full XTR, mint condition.
Randomly and frustratingly i was in SLC travelling from the UK for work. I even got stranded for a day my birthday) due to cancelled flight. If only i discovered you before today. Awesome video
As always, an awesome video and a superb restoration. Thank you for sharing the links. Keep up the good work, sir; your restorations and the thought process behind them are very inspiring!
That is a classically beautiful frame set and I have never appreciated just how much so till now. The collective looks like a wonderland, thanks for sharing.👍
Wow! Sir ,your w/shop so amazing to look, very good arrenge, clean and saefty when you cleaning parts, I'm must follow your step for next video,Thank you Sir
@@el_micha it’s cheaper and faster for assembly. It’s also a pain to remove which is why Old Shovel did not disassemble the fork, but resorted to greasing an area that doesn’t require grease
@@pcbootleger But if it just lasts? I mean when the sealed bearings are shot, they need to come out and new ones come in. Ok might be harder to change for the average human. I find adjusting cone bearings a pain - esp. in wheelhubs and cranks. Most other industries just rely on sealed bearings. And oddly enough they got to withstand much harder conditions than mt.biking and still last…
@@pcbootleger I guess it is a press fit as used for bottom brackets since a couple of years or in other industries. The steerer tube might be milled out a bit or sth. like that, so the bearing has a seat I suppose…
Just awesome 👌 Sadly I couldn't afford an early original KLEIN ATTITUDE however I do have 2 later 2000 era ATTITUDE's that I'm working on. Ive decided to go with 1x11 drive train for a modern riding experience, but ill be painting them in early paint schemes, Gator Fade and Horizon linear. You're videos have been a great influence and inspiration 👏 😎
I'm realy happy that you changed the wheel set for a better one , the one who was on it was a total disgrace for this beauty ! Well done Oldshovel ! This brings back a lot of good memorys ! Thank you !😃
I recently picked up my 90s dream MTB, a 1994 Giant Cadex CFM3. All original parts except a replaced front rim. I love it, but the 90s aggressive riding position doesn't love my aging bones. On another note, I had the same Suntour Self-energising canti's as that Klein on my race bike back then.
$4500 is the going rate for just the frame for these bikes with the original paint. It does seem high until you understand the rare value of this bike.
All the original '92ish Deore XT... The Cooks crank... The paint... The frame....The rarity... This is a package. The parallax hubs with rhino lite wheels was very fitting.
I was just wondering last night if you would have an upload this morning...good to see. That was a sweet bike! I wish that we had something like to Collective in our area. It seems like the biking roots in your area go much deeper than in my area.
So glossy! i have a mat finish with is great 500404KR | RAL 5004 | witch is a awesome color to f1 red bull, but that gloss... Oh the grass is greener on the other side but im happy with my color, always black but in full sun sooo purple you should try it Shovel!
Kijiji Guy had three he was selling together for best offer, here in Toronto. I later enquire to find they went for $7500 CAD. I rode a fine burgundy one at a store, back when. Crazy money then, too.
You didn’t show any checking, cleaning repacking or adjusting of bearings. I wonder for the pedals, BB , hubs and upper and especially lower headset. Also application of grease or loctite on bolts. Is that all up to the buyer?
Question: Why do you grease the freehub? The cassette does not move on the freehub and there is no point in greasing it. On the contrary, greasing it will only attract and accumulate dirt. 🤔
I would have changed rear brake cantilevers with spare Shimano, replace rear brake pads and re paint seat post. Also black rims and a stem more straight. It would be really awesome!!!
That's a lot of soap and detergent, I was wondering whether you'd repaint that, I think Klein is famous for their paint jobs. Wise choice to do as little as possible.
What a great bike and a nice frame size. Thats very rare i think. I also bought one of my dreambikes couple weeks before. A storck organic light. Cant wait for the first ride🤟🏻
Never personally worked on a Klein but I can see from the video this bike has non standard headset and bb. They appear to be press fit because I can’t see any treaded rings to remove. removing pressfit non standard bearings would go down a rabbit hole and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. That said a short video on how that head set works with a quill stem, before there were aheadsets, would be cool!
It’s a valid question. Both we’re working great and are sealed bearings pressed into the frame. They were all working great and looked like they were in good condition. I did not remove them because of the value of the frame and that in the process of removing good working parts I could chip the paint. There was not a significant enough need to remove them to overcome the risk of chipping.

Preserving the physical bike in real life as well as on the web for generations to see. This was a great video, man.

Missed you, man. So happy to see you again back with the awesome videos.
Gorgeous bike. I love the one piece bar and stem matching the frame paintwork. Magic.
One of the best retro MTB of all time!

Can't beat how smooth these bikes operate..its night and day. Nice clean rebuild🤌
Remember these when I was racing at the time, a dream bike. Just restored my 1992 Diamond Back axis with the same XT group set

Yayy, a new OS video! Glad you're back, I was wondering how you were doing and hoping everything is ok!
I'm glad you put quick a release on that rear wheel. 🙂Awesome job!
KLEIN bikes are just beautiful… I have a KLEIN AuraX Road bike and the finish of the welts and the paint is just amassing 😊
Nice to have you back! And with a sweet Klein on top of everything, I've done a service on a Klein's attitude client not a long time ago and it was a pleasure to work on it. Full XTR, mint condition.

This video is a content match minefield. Kudos for taking on the editing challenge and showing us this amazing bike.
I'm glad you're back! Thank you for the video...
Hearing Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi in the background made me smile, those guys have a great taste in music!

Been wondering when we'd get an old shovel video. Great bike to return with.
Awesome bike and restoration job!
And interesting (and cool) to hear
Mariya Takeuchi's Plastic Love in the background! :D
A beautiful bike Rob .I'd be so tempted to have touched the paint in
Those pressed in bearings on the head set and bb really do last forever 👍Great video!
Yeah, I wonder why the rest of the bike world went for all those shitty cone bearings for decades…
I was wondering how that was held in. Is it like the Cannondale Headshock bearings?
@@el_micha it’s cheaper and faster for assembly. It’s also a pain to remove which is why Old Shovel did not disassemble the fork, but resorted to greasing an area that doesn’t require grease

Nice to see you chose a different wheel to go back on instead of the one that came off the bike.
that´s awesome shop, we don´t have places like that In Spain, very nice video, nice to save and restore , thats the way for a better world¡
Just awesome 👌

I’m the original owner of a Klein Attitude in Linear Gator Fade paint scheme and it’s in perfect condition. It’s my forever bike!
Man I would love a shop like that near me! The used parts bins are awesome!
I remember seeing one new in the local shop, those colours were so vivid.
I'm realy happy that you changed the wheel set for a better one , the one who was on it was a total disgrace for this beauty ! Well done Oldshovel ! This brings back a lot of good memorys ! Thank you !😃
What a beautiful restoration, great work!
The one and only dream bike especially in those colours stunning
Currently running a Supercaliber with the integrated bar. Definitely going to do this paint scheme on it now!!
this bike is the piece of art
The integral bars and stem is pretty cool.
What a great restore! I’m a 90’s kid and I’m still biased that those were the best years for cycling. So many great memories. Thanks for this one.
Plastic Love playing in the background just perfected the vibes, Thank You for this awesome video!
Someone playing "Plastic Love" in the background makes this even better for me... they know good music
I freaking love the bike shop vibe
Good to see a new video. I was getting nervous!!
nice work, making it look easy
loved the bike, my friend has one...also noticed the music in the background was "plastic love" by Mariya Takeuchi.
So mutch love in your work! and it's not fake shit with fake rust and a stupid solid chain and what ever they do on youtube these days...
So much bike stuff 😲. I'd be in bicycle overload!
The SLC Bicycle collective is such a gem! I am like a kid in a candy store every time I go in!
Beautiful bike! I would love to have seen those work chainrings be replaced though...
Nice vid fella, great build, just wish there is a bike shop just like this in London UK, I think not 😏.
grandiosa construcción ,quedo excelente esa MTB ,saludos desde Colombia
This would be my candy store. Love it and great shop
This is a great shop in SLC. I've built two bikes there a few years ago!
Oh nice you added quick release hubs cool much better that way with a cassette should be good to go now
Delaware's Newark Bike Project and Urban Bike Project (in Wilmington, Delaware) are excellent
Wow, would love some kind of shop like this in Italy

Worked at a bike shop that sold Klein and I don't remember the rear bmx style dropouts. Looks like a Tinker Juarez bike!!!
Wow, what a bike! Great video!
It's a really cool project. The bike is nice, the video is nice too.
Are those Cooks Bros cranks ? Probalby a collectors item now 💪😎🙏
Awesome bike and great job with that restoration!
But on sale for $4.500 on the shop's homepage?! Come on, where do we end up with those prices...
Indeed. I went and looked too...that's a bit ridiculous, right? And this is funding a bike collective? Get a little at a time. Not all at once ..

What a awesome place well done rob 👍
Very much satisfied with the product .
Welcome back brother- and what a way to cap off the year. $4500 fat ones for this puppy is a fair deal. Kudos to whomever picks it up!

That was a very nice rebuild.
Another Really Great Video. Well Done.
That is everyone of a certain age dream mtb. I was a pure road rider when new and I lusted for one
Awesome parts bins, I would probably expend a couple of hours just switching out saddles just to find the perfect one for my personal anatomy.
I used to have a Klein Performance road bike. I still regret having sold it.
This was my dream bike in the 90s. I had forgotten how long undershifters had been around for. Was expecting real oldskool thumbshifters.
That Walmart back wheel was blasphemous..lol.
Yeah, that was not stock 😂
Love this build, what kind of headset system is the Klein?
Rear facing horizontal drop-outs? How rad is that?
Kijiji Guy had three he was selling together for best offer, here in Toronto. I later enquire to find they went for $7500 CAD. I rode a fine burgundy one at a store, back when. Crazy money then, too.
WHAT was with that PoS dept-store rear wheel, is that how they got it?
You didn’t show any checking, cleaning repacking or adjusting of bearings. I wonder for the pedals, BB , hubs and upper and especially lower headset.
Also application of grease or loctite on bolts. Is that all up to the buyer?

Wthat a bike, and that shop is even better...
Beautiful 🤙🏼
Please do a touring bikes restoration. Got a Miyata six-ten. I need some inspiration 😊
I love this bicycle model from KLEIN
Great refurb but I missed some of your key ASMR bites like the tires inflating. Also, that crankset is beautiful!
Muy buen trabajo y además entretenido, me gustan mucho los videos congratulations. 👍🏻
