Marin should 100% take your retro / rebuild as a model and re-release that bike as a limited edition. It is that amazing! With that, Please find a proper XTR Rear Mech and bring that beauty full circle. Love your work!!!
I always enjoy the restoration videos, I see the passion, dedication and knowledge you have, thank you for sharing this passion. greetings from Costa Rica.
I love my Marin. It has given me 15 years of fun and usefulness and still rides like new. I am now using it to ride/carry to my dad's rehabilitation center for his care. It has been a great investment.
I spent nearly 10 years buying retro mtb's from our recycling centre. I dont see them in the centre now, guess they are loved or lost. I had a good sized collection at one time but you cant ride them all and at 50 Y/O i have only 5 now. Plenty of retro bikes around in the UK and the Malverns bike fest has a great show & Shine. Seems like you still have plenty of old stock to work with there and make some great resto and restomod bikes. Much appreciated 🤙
Beautiful restoration. The rebuild of the fork was really cool. I've been watching your videos for about 18 months, and it inspired me to restore my 88 Miata Path Runner. Unfortunately the frame was way too big for me, so I found a Reflex F1 frame to "Swap" in. Lol...this turned into a crazy project where only a couple of components from the Miata could be used on the Reflex frame. After 5 months I finally got it assembled, running, and shifting pretty well. I hadn't ridden trails in about 25 years, but have really, really enjoyed riding my "New" restored Mountain Bike. This winter I'm hoping to break it down and repaint it using some of the techniques you've shown. Thank you for your content, inspiration. It makes me feel great riding my restored Mountain Bike on the trails.
I love this bike. In 1992 I started to paid attention to MTB just in 1995 I can assemble my first MTB in Argentina. Love this color this brand and now day the way their are building bikes! Ah! Last comment... lovely music track at end of this built! Love it. Keep doing this! This is a passion and a therapy!
I had a 92 team issue nickel plated, full xtr, answer manitou forks was a fantastic bike, lovely to see you getting this one back in top condition enjoy the ride
Love it - these are the videos that got me into you channel in the beginning! And as a 90s mountain biker I can watch these restorations all day long 👌🏻
Lovely restoration! The job that you did with the Judy, is simply amazing. You are blessed with parts, and kits to keep alive MTB old school stuff, here in Argentina is very hard to find spare parts of forks with only 10 years, it's simply impossible to do the same that you did with a near 30 y/o fork. As always, great video! Big hug!
This might be my favorite restoration you’ve done. Those classic Marins are just gorgeous and the upgrades you made to the fork were very cool. Excellent work!
Lovely job and especially the fork rebuild. Kudos on not only getting the parts but actually taking the time to record it all. They are complicated and fiddly.
It's always fun, watching you, saving old bikes. Lots of good tricks i took for my own screwing. At least, i ain't got any more place to store bikes....my wife says: You got 4, it should be enough. I hope you will go on and let us take part in your work. Best regards from Germany.
I love this build one of my favourites of yours, I had an early 90's Marin Muirwoods satin black with fluro yellow rear triangle, used it as a commuter bike with very narrow cut down bars to get through London traffic
Wow, a few things... 1. Beautiful restoration, as usual. Really happy you replicated the original paint 2. Nice work on the shock overhaul/restoration/swap. Excited to check out that specialty store 3. I had a weird emotional flashback to watching your videos during the pandemic. Thanks for continuing to make great restoration videos!
Over the years at me being almost 30, I’ve had quite a few older bikes such as a khs crest from 99. A 92 diamondback topanga. A 99 specialized hard rock. And now I’ve been riding a 98 or so Gary fisher Big Sur in 2023 and ended up putting newer parts on it and made it a one by 8 instead of a 3 by 8
Awesome restoration as usual! I was a little disappointed to see you left off the bar ends, those were indicative of bikes of that era. When they're set up properly, meaning not so high up in the air, they actually work very well. I've been riding since 93 and still haven't given up my bar ends. They provide alternative hand positions and definitely aid when you're climbing out of the saddle or going up a super steep grade. I even remember a brief period when they came stock and you could see them on bikes in the shops.
That Synchros BB is incredible. I have one in my 94 Zaskar still running the original bearings. I hope they last forever because replacements aren’t common.
Like watching my father work when I was a teenager. I wish I had paid more attention. Thank you for an epic video. I love the Park tools and apron for real. So cool dude🎉
Love the build. I have an old set of Mag21s I was debating clearning up and rebuilding but they are pretty trashed. Still gives me some thought on how to do it, just not sure what to do with them 🤣
I saw Paul Brodie build his new gravel bike up. Splatter paint job, you should check it out. He pulled out a set of oury grips and my first thought was, old shovel! Great restoration. Nice fork rebuild!
Sei sempre attento e preciso , tratti MTB come macchine d epoca ,ridandogli una seconda vita, facendo attenzione a nn stravolgere la sua natura Number one😎😎😎👏👏👏👏👏👋👋👋👋👋
I own a 92 Eldridge Grade. 2 Years ago my Steering-Bearing went out and so i also upgraded it to a RockShox 30 Silver (~50$ Deal) with new Bearing and so i had to convert it to a "long" 110mm Ritchey Stem. I am so use to my "29 so the "26 Marin felt "Dwrafish" in Comparison. But now with the Long Stem too much of my weight is to far forward "over" the Steering so it feels wrong with the Turning Spot straight under my shoulders . I think about to get a backsloping Seatpost.
They do feel different. These old xc bikes often feel like a time trial mountain bike of sorts. Way more upfront and crouched. They still rip on the right trail though.
Great work and some great product demonstrations for folks like myself wanting to keep my 95 Judys alive. Those stanchions still look like new and it looks like you've done a cartridge oil change once or twice before : ) Rock Shox changed mine under the original recall mid/late 90s. Unfortunately I have one of the Ti allen screws at the brake brace rounded and now can't get it out ! I have a 94 Kona Explosif with the same tube set - I didn't know Marin used the Tange Ultrastrong with the ribbed down tube until now. Really nice to see that, its fairly rare. In 1994 the Marin Team Marin was ultra light - lighter than the Explosif. Did you manage to find anywhere supplying replacement Tange stickers? Finally, love that BB you used. Great job - I am sure that steel frame will go another 30 yrs easy. 👍
Hello, thanks for sharing such beautiful videos. I’m curious about the bottom bracket: did you have it in your garage or you bought it for this rebuild? Anyway which are brand and model? Could I buy it on line? Thanks in advance Ciao Luciano
you put a Chris king headset, so it definetly deserves a silver Thompson post....excellent build and fork rebuild! in the video at the end was that Ned Overend riding??? looked like a Rocket 🙂
Thanks for the offer. I did find some XT brakes, the ones I installed. I plan on keeping the Manitou for for now. You never know when a use will come up.

XTR brakes would also complement the build☝
My brother in the USA has a Marin Team Titanium frame hanging in his garage. I'm trying to persuade him to bring it over next summer.
A poster i would have had on my bedroom wall. Love the little touches and real thought to the details.
It's always a pleasure watching you build a bike. It's almost as good as building one myself.
I always enjoy the restoration videos, I see the passion, dedication and knowledge you have, thank you for sharing this passion. greetings from Costa Rica.
Thank you my friend
I love my Marin. It has given me 15 years of fun and usefulness and still rides like new. I am now using it to ride/carry to my dad's rehabilitation center for his care. It has been a great investment.
Love the color-matched front shock- like a colored headstock on a guitar, sets it off nicely-bella!
Thanks 😁

A note of respect for the graze under your right elbow. It's a familiar look.
The Specialty Retro Products stuff is impressive too.
You inspired me to restore my 1992 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo with the elevated chainstay and S shaped seat tube.
Awesome

This is one your best, for sure. Killer build.

That looks absolutely fabulous. Race-ready!
Wonderful restoration. The paint came out amazing!
Thanks
Stellar build, your attention to detail is impressive, I bet it’s a blast to ride, nice job!
Thanks my friend
Great work, at a glance i thought this was my palisades trail from the same era, such a lot of fun rides on that bike
Youre a wild man to voluntarily take off those awesome v brakes for some smooth post cantis wow
Great work,i had a scott super evolution in similar colours ,way back when, brought back some good memories
That is mint, literally! My favourite resto to date, chapeau!
Gorgeous build. Thank you for sharing it.
Thanks
Very nice restoration. Thank you for sharing

Just acquired the same bike in the uk can't wait to restore it hope it comes half as nice as yours
Total Digg! I just rescued a '95 homegrown and will be doing the SRP fork rebuild.
You are amazing, I really enjoyed your restorations, your videos are extremely inspiring.
Love this build. Amazing bike.
Awesome thanks
Very nice build,Rob! When Marins were still Marins. I have a '92 Eldridge Grade and love it.
Awesome
I’ve learned more from your videos than any where else when it comes to the old bikes.Your video style and aesthetic is spot on.🤙
Oh man, incredible job, congratuletions.
Turned out beautiful!
Thanks
That turned out gorgeous!
One of your best looking builds! It would be great to show how to put new bushings into old forks. Thanks
Thanks
Love these old mountain bikes.
Good job on the restoration and another great video! Thanks for sharing!
Another fun watch. Thanks you!
That Synchros BB is incredible. I have one in my 94 Zaskar still running the original bearings. I hope they last forever because replacements aren’t common.
Very Nice Restauration, espacially the fork rebuild
Looks great! Just needs some green Salsa skewers for the finishing touch.
That would be cool
Like watching my father work when I was a teenager. I wish I had paid more attention. Thank you for an epic video. I love the Park tools and apron for real. So cool dude🎉
Great job! Love a vintage Marin 😊
Thanks
Great build love the marin
Thanks.
came out gr8 ! well done.
Thanks
Hi there from the philiphines
Perfect restoration more power❤
I had no clue that Syncros made bottom brackets, let alone Titanium ones; very cool🤘🤘
Great restoration!
And he’s back! Thanks for taking the time to show your process… just a quick question, wet or dry sanding?
Wonderful job!
Great to see new life injected into another old Marin 👍😎
Ooh you rebuild the forks. I had discussions about this with mechanic. Late 90s we're pretty heavy, or spend big money. Wish you were in Marin.
I’m just happy someone is now making rebuild parts. SRP is awesome.
Wow what a beautiful build buddy, i really love the passion you put into your builds… awsome 👍👌🚵
Love the build. I have an old set of Mag21s I was debating clearning up and rebuilding but they are pretty trashed. Still gives me some thought on how to do it, just not sure what to do with them 🤣
I’ve been there. You’ll have to plan a restoration around the fork 😁
beautiful build
Beautiful as usual!❤️🙏🏼
Very nice build!
Thanks
I saw Paul Brodie build his new gravel bike up. Splatter paint job, you should check it out. He pulled out a set of oury grips and my first thought was, old shovel! Great restoration. Nice fork rebuild!
Paul is awesome
I saw that Paul Brodie video and thought of Old Shovel too! I'm hooked on Oury grips.
Great build!! I just bought me a '98 Trek 930 and was planning on fixing it up. Any idea where I can get Trek decals to put back on?
I’m not sure. The remake my own masking vinyl for the most part. There are a few folks out there that make them and sell on eBay
I have to admit after it was done it actually looks pretty good.
What a beauty Bike!! Love it❤
Thanks
Absolutely nice restoration 😉👍
Thanks
I use regular alcohol to installl the handlebar grips so I don't scratch it with the air nozzle
Good tip

Marin Bikes are not just bikes.. they are feelings..
As bicicletas dos anos 90 são icônicas!! É pena que no Brasil o mercado ainda era muito restrito!
This video is awesome. Would love to see a small caption explaining each step so I can learn what you're doing!

yet another video that makes me wish that my 1992 Bridgestone had a 1 1/8" steerer.
Good job!!
Thanks
Nice bike and Nice Job!
Stunning! One question: what happened to the XT Shark's Fin (0:39)?
Awesome 👍
Was hoping for some retro music too! 😎
Lol I do what I can with music licensing 😁

Ciao Luciano
Nicely done job. Beautiful bike, wish now a days thigs were made same, long lasting and repairable. Respect your passion!👍
Thank god for modern forks, which are simple for maintenance. I have always avoided suspension forks when I was young, because of their complexity😂
You might have touched on this in a previous video but where do you get your stencils from?
I make them myself. I have an older video of it.
@@oldshovel nice! To the search bar I go
Great vid I think it needs one last thing a xt sharkfin chainstay protector
I believe I have some XT cants on my Gary Fisher Pro-Cal... Going to swap to V brakes on it... Let me know if you want them.
Do you make your own vinyl stencil?
Beautiful bike!
Confirmed my Pro-Cal has XT cants on it in very good condition. Let me know if your interested in them.
Thanks!
Chris King 7075-T6 aluminum Headsets🤘🤘
How far back did you go with bike brands ?? Gary Fisher or older classics??
you put a Chris king headset, so it definetly deserves a silver Thompson post....excellent build and fork rebuild! in the video at the end was that Ned Overend riding??? looked like a Rocket 🙂
Meravigliosa!
🙏
I’m curious. Why put a coin inside the grips? Is it to just make the end of the bar ‘solid’ instead of hollow?
I have a spare set of Marin Lite cantilever brakes. Wanna swap for the Manitou fork?
Thanks for the offer. I did find some XT brakes, the ones I installed. I plan on keeping the Manitou for for now. You never know when a use will come up.
@@oldshovel Yes, the first 4 Manitou forks are CNC works of art as are the array of 90’s canti’s.
