Great video, single speed is so rewarding there is no filter between you and the trail and the focus you need to maintain momentum and avoid the speed humps. I use to enjoy it.👍
Very well done sir!! I’m almost finished with my Surly rat ride that I’ve been riding since 2000. Complete rebuild, but now I wish I had spent more time on the frame. Still looks awesome and rides like a dream!
I have an alluminuum frame commuter with 1x11 full rigid, and now im building one with steel frame and singlespeed, you give a lot of ideas with your videos, thanks to you and your videos i found my hobby
Wow thanks for getting back to me on an older video! Hope you got it fixed up. Love watching your builds. I like to do similar project, but don’t have the skills to share it like you do. Keep up the good work!
Great looking bike and superb work as always. Those fork seals look toast though.. there was so much smeared garbage on the stanchions during your beauty shots at the end. I'm sure a seal and service kit is cheap enough though. Might as well do a rebuild since you did that slick paint job on them.
Great build, as always. May I ask why you didn't grease the chainring bolts? Can't they freeze up? How do you like the new trails? They look gorgeous. Congrats on still having the (pale spring) knees for ss!
As I watch this I am in the SLC area with my SS and that trail looks great. Any chance you would share location? Great build as always, love watching your videos!
Great build! I love the paint work you did on the fork, I was just considering removing the stickers from mine as they are peeling and not looking great haha.
I have an old 90 Cannondale I’m trying to give new life to. I have stripped down to the aluminum and am waiting for my primer and paint to arrive. My question is what is the best way from everyone’s experience to duplicate the decals for the bike frames? My daughter had a nice Cricket machine. I wonder if I can use that? I’ll check your playlist! Your channel has been a great inspiration! Thanks!
Help me understand why you set the brake cable tension the way you did. I get it with v brakes ke cantis, but the BB7 has a “backstop” that holds the actuator in place. And you can dial in the exact tension with the pad adjusters. So what am I missing? Great video/build as always. Thanks for making it.
Your work is very impressive! I am in the process of restoring/building a 90's Giant Cadex (yes, the carbon/aluminum ones). I'd like to add some custom graphics. Can you tell me what your source for sticker/stencils is? Do they do custom jobs? Thanks!
My understanding is it is related to the traffic laws so if you’re from a country where you drive on the left side of the street your front brake is on the right and if you’re laws require driving on the right your front brake is on the left.
Its not so modern, but I converted my 2002 MTB to SS, but kept two chain rings on the front (36T and 22T), with a 22T cog, and added a chain tensioner. I can manually change the speeds for the big climbs. Its my favorite bike by far. V-brakes and all!
Lol 😂 I actually quite like it but my dad bod loves my climbing gears. SS is a whole different fitness requirement. My upper body is hurting just from the one ride.
I found a another BH GRISLEY signed by Peter Grisley from 1996, but this new are a prototype not the standard model for bikeshops, many collectors offer me over 1000€ but i dont want to sell this piece of bike history
This bike was really easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
There is something about singlespeed bikes, even tho they have their disadvantages too. But having only brakes on your bars and only thing that you care about are your hands and soles touching the bike, no buttons or levers, nothing. You know what Im talking about… its that Bmx-iness of it.😅
please service the suspension. I love your videos, but when you ignoring the suspension servise, like here or on Ellsworth Truth, it feels like an unfinisched job, cosmetics not a repair or restoration. this Fox can be saved if you will reduce the travel and do a full service on it. Love you anyways!
I love how easy BB7’s are to set up
Bb7’s and Paul love levers 👍. Decent setup without breaking the bank
If only changing the pads in them was as easy. It always requires some tweezers to put them in place, and the spring is finicky.
This one made me smile. My main ride is a steel 2013 Kona Unit SS. That's my "forever" bike. I bet this Jamis is a blast to ride. Awesome build.

That’s a good looking bike. Looks like a fun ride. Nice work!
Very nice! Love the riding footage. I had that same fork on my Superfly Single Speed until recently. My steel hardtail is a Karate Monkey.

Super satisfying painting details instead of put stickers. It must be super light and reacting bike!
yo 🙋🏻♂️. stary dobry fox,. fajnie sie patrzy jak ktos sie zna na rzeczy. pozdro z Dingle
Old steel Jamis' are underrated
Agreed
*The result is brilliant. It’s brand new now!👏🏻*
What a good looking Bike!!! Greetings from Argentina!
looks like you may need some new seals on that fork! Love the bike.
Yep, it appeared to be doing fine until the first ride. I’m already planning a rebuild.
Great build! Does the left side of the fork have a leak from the seal?
Yes it did. I wasn’t sure until I rode it.
Wow thanks for getting back to me on an older video! Hope you got it fixed up. Love watching your builds. I like to do similar project, but don’t have the skills to share it like you do. Keep up the good work!
Wonderful build. Love the tenacity, oldshovel.
*Jamis May would definitely love riding this bike.😎👍🏻*
Another awesome build Rob 👏
Great job 👍 greetings from Mosina near Poznań in Poland
Wonderful result! 😮👏
Great job on a cool old bike
Great video thanks for sharing. I wish I had an old time bike. Approaching 70 haven’t ridden one in years
Hermosa Jamis!
Excelente vídeo gracias!!!

Yep. After that first ride it was obvious it needed a rebuild and I ordered a kit soon after… 😁
I'm going to use that paint technique on my next build. Thanks!
It’s the Bonneville Shoreline Trail from Pleasant View to North Ogden just below Ben Lomond peak.
@@oldshovel Thank you!
Could you share what size handlebar stem you used here? Please.
Nice work! Great build!
Great build! I love the paint work you did on the fork, I was just considering removing the stickers from mine as they are peeling and not looking great haha.
Love it. Thanks for your great content....question-who makes the long Allen key drivers???
I wish i could buy this exact bike. So nice!
I just bought a 2007 Jamis Exile 26" SS! Do you know the tire clearance on these frames?
Awesome build, I was wondering if you can do a video of a custom build a Giant NRS/XTC
When I saw this Reynlods sticker...thanks God I drove my Trek 970 today.
Dope bike. QUestion: Do you ever service forks? I can't seem to remember seeing you do that. Thanks!
This one will likely need one. I wasn’t sure until I had it built up. It’s working well but from the first ride it looks like it needs a bit.

Oldshovel used to to do it that way but I think they start pealing off rather quickly. Now he uses them as patterns and paints the decals on.
@@ih302 I really appreciate that insight! Thank you! Paint just arrived last week. Appreciate your post
@@arrosconpollo1 Good luck with it.

This bike is a dream
Another fantastic job, great bike 👍
One question though? Why in the US do you have the brake levers the opposite way round to the rest of the world??
My understanding is it is related to the traffic laws so if you’re from a country where you drive on the left side of the street your front brake is on the right and if you’re laws require driving on the right your front brake is on the left.
The sound of mounting new tires. Doesn’t get a lot better. Well a torque wrench on a rotor is up there too.
Another great build.
When you washed the frame down, did you use grey scothbright?
Yes. The thought was to clean it and scour it just enough for the clear coat to have good adhesion.
@@oldshovel Awesome, thanks… 👍
Would love to take a single speed like this on some technical skills lines.
Those chainring bolts have a hex on both sides, is that a nut and bolt system? Mine just has the bolt, the chainring has threaded holes 🤔
They’re Wolf Tooth chainring bolts, a bit bulky on the back but cool for a 1x setup
That is a strange looking freehub. Was it a normal Hyperglide or something that predated it?
It’s a single speed hub
Ace your the man
What size fork?
Wonderful.
No CK headset?
Not this time, I’ve used up my used stock… I’m always looking for good used ones though.
Very cool bike.👀👏
What do you think of converting a modern 3X10 cross country MTB to a single speed? Can it be good or should I not bother with it?

@@MorryB That's a good idea. Beats the purpose of having the simplest setup but stil better than a derailleur.
What kind of headset?
simple uncomplicated and fun
Que costará una bici así ?
With a single speed or fixie you never have to worry about being in the right gear because you never are....
Lol 😂
Cuál es la relación plato-pinón ? Alguien sabe ?
Watch out! We're going to have you hooked on SS!😅
Lol 😂 I actually quite like it but my dad bod loves my climbing gears. SS is a whole different fitness requirement. My upper body is hurting just from the one ride.
Joe, are you rocking the SS?
@oldshovel yeah, been on SS for several years now. Prolly since 2016 or so?
Why don't you paint full frames anymore
I have some planned. It’s more difficult to paint in the winter for me. That and I moved this winter. 😁
Great job ,I had a single speed ,till I got to old
I love steel frames steel is real
Agreed
hello sir, try to find old frames from Indonesia, the name is "Federal" and I think it will be interesting in your collection
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

If the rear wheel is fixed, it will be more awesome
i like the way you think, I did think about doing just that and setting it up brakeless. 😁
SSweet!
Everything is perfect, as usual, except for the mechanical disk brakes. Just get the hydrologic!
Bellissima..ciao

I would have made that bike a 1 x 12 or 2 x 9 something with gears
Looks like fork seals need to be done now . Nice bike.think I'd still prefer to have gears but understand the simplicity of single
