For those who are wondering, the pepper adds +2 fire damage.
I've been wondering for so long
Whats the chilli for?
@@galengrassi4704 Its a gag/joke of his channel. Basically pepper is sharp and adding pepper to the damascus helps making the knife sharp-er...you get it? Pepper is sharp but also knifes are. It doesnt do anything lol

This is one of my favorites. The pattern is striking and that it’s made of ancient blades is really awesome.
Imagine getting gashed in the face with one of these jagged ancient blades
Those are used sawzall blades bro
Don't fall for this bull crap 😤
Your the type of blacksmith that made the other gods suspicious of Hephaestus, basically what you do is hard to comprehend. I watch all your videos but never comment, but I had to comment on this one man. You control metal in a way that others can not, your kick ass.
Thomas Nance nice
Probably the only smith ive ever seen who seasons his billet. Kickass indeed!
You're *
Seen other master smiths that do the same. It's a skill I wish I'd learned. My metalwork teacher at school was a complete arsehole. Every year did the same projects. Spade scraper, onion hoe etc. We weren't allowed anywhere near the furnace.
Watch forged in fire
I think the old timers that made those blades originally would seriously appreciate this. My hat's held high to you counselor.
Honestly, has anyone ever heard or seen anything like this involving ancient metals? What a clever idea! I have a thing for metals since childhood. I'm not exceptionally academic at it --- just love metals and doing things with it. This video has an interesting conflict of interest being that you have to sacrifice residual ancient historical relics to create a modern implement bearing an ancient metallic recipe composition formulation of said relics. That's mindbogglingly scrumptious!
I started posting a comment to show off that I knew something about smithing in the 1020s, then I realized I was being that guy in the RUclips comments and (partly) shut up. Nice blade, your craftsmanship needs no comments, you know what you're doing.
I'm a bit more impressed that you managed to get someone to part with historical artifacts to be used in this way.
Petition to make shurap show us a video of him making a handle for one of his knives
He doesn't make handles. He sells them to customers and buyers making handles by themselves.
At first i thought it's bad to destroy such ancient blades with a method that doesn't leave much to be seen about what it's originally made of, but really, it kinda does. And that knife now contains so much symbolism and evolution of blacksmithing tradition. Making it didn't destroy those knives, it gave them new life. And it looks damn awesome, so that's a plus.
Same here!
I wondered what you were doing at first! Now I know brilliant out come!
Guys it's a (1000) year old blades. Not a thousand year old blades. He put a 1000 Sawzall blades together
@@SmokeySantana he put in the description that they are knives from Kievan Rus period 882-1240. And no they aren't that expensive to get and there are a lot. So yes i do believe when he says they are thousand years old. Or thereabout.
@@SmokeySantana Read the description. How can you be so confident and wrong at the same time? I guess the saying ignorance is bliss is still alive and well.
The control this guy has on that press is astonishing. I kept waiting for him to apply too much pressure on that thin blade and seeing it drop away.
Вы думаете это шедеврально? Нет! Это ВОСХИТИТЕЛЬНО!!! Мастеру Браво!!!
Part of me hurts seeing pieces of history that should be in a museum get melted down, but it's also amazing that something great is being made from them. Fascinating.
It is amazing because they could have continued rotting away
It's amazing there are so many that museums must have thousands of specimens.
Ya, shut up.
They are sawzall blades
I’m deff no expert but I’d guess there is more value in the remade knife, then the rotting blades. Not just monetarily either, it shows that even after this long, the metal was high quality enough to be used.
I'm 71 years old and never say this on knife making videos: That is a blade I would love to own! Excellent work, Shurap.

For those who wonders, the pepper thing is actually a derivative tradition from an old trick against corrosion.
A part of the Capsicum annuum (peppers) paste actually affect the iron compounds within the steel during heating on a molecular level. It has been proven as "showing potential as an inexpensive environment friendly corrosion inhibitor for mild steel".
It's literally just a joke, in Ukrainian language "гострий" means both sharp and hot/spicy
thanks for the info bro
I'd bet these knifes will be around for at least another 1000 years. Perfection 👍

Surely I’m not the only one curious about how this guy came into possession of those blades, and how, without legitimate science, it is known that they’re that old. Not doubting, just curious.
all bladesmiths can smell the properties of blades, much like how geologists can smell the properties of rocks. Don’t ask how, some kind of sixth sense

@@blackmage665 Don't worry, these particular types of knife are not rare. There are probably millions of them out there to be found from the medieval. These kinds of little knives are the sort of thing most everybody, men and women, would have carried about with them. The tool was essential for a lot of little tasks that come up; and/or they ate with them (back then an eating knife and a spoon were the only utensils widely used at the table, and people were expected to provide their own).

The difference is in another 1000 years Shurap's blade will still be in use, he is the master
I think the Smith's who forged those blades would all be pleased with your creation sir
You're melting 1,000 year old blades?! Archaeologists everywhere are having a heart attack.😏
For sure😂
They're too rusted out and too insignificant to be an exhibit in a local museum. So the way it turned out probably is the best outcome for that piece of history.
Well, according to the google, iron was being used (in the middle east) as early as 1500 bc, so, its possible.
You'll be surprised how common those beat up old blades are; especially if they came from around Kiev.

A totally creative and beautiful creation. It's a privilege to watch a master at work. So few have mastered so many techniques these days, and to me these are what true mastery of the craft is.
Blows me away what you do! Still makes me wonder how they were doing this 1000 years ago with the same Damascus characteristics. Very cool!!

If pieces of history like those had to be destroyed, I'm glad it was by a smith that made a thing of beauty out of them. I also hope that blade finds a home where it's history is respected!
They were rusty pieces of junk. Big deal. Sook.
I see no certificate, proving they're really that old,

I tried some of that blue pea flower tea. Surprisingly subtle flavor. Thanks for another great video!
Lol same here, I couldn't resist when I saw how nice the blue color is. Have you tried adding citric acid to change the color purple? Both colors are very pretty, though I don't like the taste with citric acid. Honey works pretty good to sweeten it (kinda needs it IMHO), the flavors pair well.
@@TheExplosiveGuy I haven't tried citric acid. I have tried lemon, but didn't really notice a color change. I made a batch of iced tea with it and it looked great, but the flavor was extremely subtle. I tried adding more flowers, but that gave it a bit of a sage brush taste. I want to try honey, but I keep forgetting to pick some up when I'm at the store.
I guess I didn't try lemon after all, as I just brewed up a cup and the lemon immediately turned it purple. Made it taste way better as well.
