To help those here--concerning "The Girls Here" introduction--Mary Wilson explained this in her first book "Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme." It became a term of endearment that Ed used after their first few appearances, under the guise that they were so familiar to the country by then that calling them something straightforward like "the girls" was obvious to everyone in the audience, both live and at home, as to who they were. Also, this term was unique in relation to all the girl groups of the day (none of whom got such personalized treatment in Ed's intros of them). The words to this song are surreal for Blondie. This is LITERALLY like her LIFE STORY regarding her music career!! Her facial expressions on certain lyrics could tell it all on here!!!
Yes, they are Jay. I want to see "In And Out of Love" performance. This is when Ms. Mary wore her blond wig. And I think it's the same show, were the ladies performed with The Temptations. Performing each other songs.
I never listened to that song. Super upbeat and happy sounding till you year the words. It is something that young people today don't realize. Life isn't always what you thought it would be, and you should handle it......crying and complaining isn't gonna get you where you need to be.
It was a shame if Flo had any sense she would've let Diana leave which everyone knew was going to happen as soon as 66' If she thought she was that great she would've certainly taken over singing lead. However she let drugs, alcohol and a man take her down the wrong path ... A shame indeed.

@@michellekirkendall818 So many so called Supremes fans hate on Diana so much; however, they overlook that Florence's erratic behavior put the business we call 'The Supremes' in jeopardy by her frequent missing of recording sessions, missing performances, showing up late, and outbursts in front of industry people. She did not act professionally in fulfilling her duties as a reliable member of the group. Can you imagine fans showing up at a concert and learning that someone again had to step in for Florence? Sure, she had experienced some trauma; however, the Supremes could not stop while she got herself back together.
My personal favourite Supremes song, and I adore the way they performed it here. I'm in love with every single facial expression Diana was making throughout this.
Love it when during the "it happened to me and it can happen to you" line when Flo and Mary first point at themselves with their left thumb then extend their right arm and point outwardly with their right index fingers
I was an eleven year-old white boy when I watched this on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1967 and fell totally in love with Diana. I made the mistake of telling my Mom how beautiful I thought Diana was and she told me that whatever girl I brought home when I was older had better be white. Well, I did bring home several white girls later on and had disastrous relationships with all of them. After wasting many years with the wrong women I ended up marrying a beautiful black woman who was also a singer and my Mom finally accepted my choice just before she died, when I was 46 years-old. I am still with my beautiful black wife to this day and ecstatically happy with her. Sometimes, who we really are comes out when we are just kids and parents shouldn't try to change them. I lost many years with my family because they wouldn't accept my choice to be with a black woman and can never get that time back with them.
One of my favorite supreme's songs, Diana's voice was made for this song...lol..it's like magic the way she has that big smile and sings beautifully at the same time.
Nothing but magic when the Supremes performed. And no lip syncing. Something about Diana’s child like voice and the beautiful background vocals that made The Supremes stand head and shoulders above all the other girl groups in that era. And they had so many great hits that still sounds good. RIP Mary & Flo. Gone but never will be for gotten.
Diana carried herself well, along with having a terrifically good singing voice, femininity, and dressed formally in long evening gowns. The Supremes looked....welll....supreme --certainly against the casualness of competitors and the times, when hippie sloppiness and weird psychedelic garb began to work its way through certain socio-economic classes. There was a revolt among white Boomers to dressing up---from which we really haven't recovered to any meaningful degree.
I really enjoy the clips that include the introduction by Ed Sullivan. These look so great for 55 year old color videotape. Thanks so much for sharing this with us 😎
This song is really a Prayer, when something Happens in life, we should just be thankful for it all, the Good, Bad and Ugly. And say That's Amore, Amen.
This is the best' visual' TV performance of 'The Girls' great camera work the way they go back and forth, and Flo looks happy and beautiful ,she was ready for us mere mortals
This is wrong billing, because at this point they were STILL The Supremes. Their name hadn't been changed until later in 1967 to Diana Ross & The Supremes.
@@wallysingelman5370 Yes! That threw Mary off balance. Mary knew that the name change was coming but didn't know when until Cindy officially joined the group.
Berry Gordy wanted the Motown sound to be heavy on bass. That was unique, as songs were usually light on the bass. All of the Supremes song has heavy bass, and this really adds depth to the overall sound.
Just seeing these ladies again is like Christmas, it was always a gift, like their Silver Bells rendition...Love You Miss Ross, rip Mary and Florence...Thank you for the video..
There is such a unique vibe and presence music from the 60's and 70's that will never be duplicated. From Motown to Pop to Rock and Country that captivated and set the standard for timeless music. The Supremes, Temptations, Smokey Robinson, The Beach Boys, Herman's Hermits, Jefferson Airplane and Johnny Cash are just a few of my favs. My list goes on and on.
Great performance that makes ya fall in love with all of them. At 2:24 Diana's personality just jumps out at you, and goosebumps when she sing 'Yeah I'm riding high on top of the world'. You can see the sheer joy she felt singing this song. boy...if you missed the Ed Sullivan show on Sundays nights....your week was Empty for the next 6 days.......it was a show I think most families watched every Sunday.... it was Church...NFL Football ...and then the Ed Sullivan show..
The words to this song are surreal for Blondie. This is LITERALLY like her LIFE STORY regarding her music career!! Her facial expressions on certain lyrics could tell it all on here!!!
What’s even more chilling is that this is her last performance on Ed Sullivan.
They are cranking out The Supremes' performances now after Mary's passing! Thank you!
Yes, they are Jay. I want to see "In And Out of Love" performance. This is when Ms. Mary wore her blond wig. And I think it's the same show, were the ladies performed with The Temptations. Performing each other songs.
This is my favorite TV performance from this lineup. The angles, the gowns, the energy of the song. I love it.
We can call them one of the best groups ever . Have you ever watched them performed live Melody maker ?
So true
great summer song sung by three delightful ladies
Ed Sullivan must have really loved this group because they made many appearances on his show. So much so, he simply called them the girls.
I never listened to that song. Super upbeat and happy sounding till you year the words. It is something that young people today don't realize. Life isn't always what you thought it would be, and you should handle it......crying and complaining isn't gonna get you where you need to be.
Mary took fabulous to the next level in this clip. Wooohooo!
I know, it's not just me, that can see, but the camera LOVES flo. She just draws it's attention !
I’m sorry but I can’t take my eyes off Diana! This woman is pure glamour 😮
The Supremes sound so beautiful and look beautiful too.has the word LEGEND written all over them!
Diana is just beaming in this performance! Mary looks stunningly hot, such a shame Flo would be out, she had an amazing soulful voice
It was a shame if Flo had any sense she would've let Diana leave which everyone knew was going to happen as soon as 66' If she thought she was that great she would've certainly taken over singing lead. However she let drugs, alcohol and a man take her down the wrong path ... A shame indeed.
@@anthonyyusef5897 why don't you shut your disrespectful mouth. You are always badmouthing Florence Ballard and it's getting boring now. Go tell the wall.
@@georginahawcroft8044 Anthony Yusef is absolutely correct! She could have taken the Supremes to the next level in the 70's! She decided to self destruct! She could have been victorious!
What a beautiful sound….such talent and beauty.
WOW ! October but eartha. Sure makes u feel warm and Christmas
My personal favourite Supremes song, and I adore the way they performed it here. I'm in love with every single facial expression Diana was making throughout this.
I’m in love with Diana, period 😝 marvellously talented, her enthusiasm definitely stood out
Matt
Well said. She is what attracted me to the group. How can anyone resist her yearning to please the audience?
@@RP-oe3uq I think audiences responded to that raw enthusiasm that shone through in every performance... even on RUclips video it’s palpable
I always loved Flo with short hair 😍
One of my favorite Supremes songs.
Very good performance. They're all so beautiful and vibrant.
Sweet Florance is cooking on this performance.
My eyes were only on Florence! Sweet, lovely woman, who truly had a beautiful voice.
Her final performance with them tho..
@@pianoman551000 Blondie!! Lol
@@oxyquan313 The words to this song is literally like her biography 😢
Literally !
Love it when during the "it happened to me and it can happen to you" line when Flo and Mary first point at themselves with their left thumb then extend their right arm and point outwardly with their right index fingers
It’s indescribable what they mean to me❤❤❤❤❤
I was an eleven year-old white boy when I watched this on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1967 and fell totally in love with Diana.
Glad you were able to find the Woman that made you Happy..no matter the Nationality she was..
The point it she Made You Happy & Love You❤
One of my favorite supreme's songs, Diana's voice was made for this song...lol..it's like magic the way she has that big smile and sings beautifully at the same time.
Wow they were so beautiful especially Flo and Mary. Their dresses were so beautiful. Sometimes Diana had a sexy voice.
Ed must have really liked them or this song. He seemed into it. This is a GREAT performance. RIP Ed, Florence and Mary.
I never get tired of this performance.
There was a revolt among white Boomers to dressing up---from which we really haven't recovered to any meaningful degree.
even more today
I loved this song!!
So so true. And what a classic one.
How can you watch this and not get goose bumps?
This is the best' visual' TV performance of 'The Girls' great camera work the way they go back and forth, and Flo looks happy and beautiful ,she was ready for us mere mortals
I loved those hairdos of the 60s! Plus, as a young boy, I couldn't take my eyes off her facial expressions. Bat an eye at me anytime, Diana!!
I love love love this performance. They all looked so happy and enjoying their perfomance🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is wrong billing, because at this point they were STILL The Supremes. Their name hadn't been changed until later in 1967 to Diana Ross & The Supremes.
The billing officially changed in July/August, with the release of their next single “Reflections”
@@jfblog23 July, 1967 with their performance at the Hollywood Bowl, was the actual change of the group's name.
@@pianoman551000 Didn't Mary say in her book that she and Flo had no idea of the name change and saw it on the marquee?
@@wallysingelman5370 Yes! That threw Mary off balance. Mary knew that the name change was coming but didn't know when until Cindy officially joined the group.
The girls here!
Oh Ed. Bless ya!
Just listening to the Supremes' makes me feel great! What a wonderful group!
The quality of The Ed Sullivan Show videos are fantastic! They are much better than videos I see from the 70's and even some from the 80's.
He’s amazing, God bless him, his family, friends and followers!
Berry Gordy wanted the Motown sound to be heavy on bass. That was unique, as songs were usually light on the bass. All of the Supremes song has heavy bass, and this really adds depth to the overall sound.
Mr. James Jamerson
Just seeing these ladies again is like Christmas, it was always a gift, like their Silver Bells rendition...Love You Miss Ross, rip Mary and Florence...Thank you for the video..
Awesome, awesome, awesome. Historic performance.
the energy, wow, such a light performance.
all bright and lively, the supremes. plus the airtime flo and mary had, amazing.
I will always love the original supremes Florence Ballard may she
The voice, face and stage presence of the Legend and Icon that is Diana Ross. Magical!
Never realized how beautiful Mary was. I was just a kid back then.
This was absolutely fantastic. I could not stop smiling. All three ladies are so professional and a complete gift here.
Great performance that makes ya fall in love with all of them. At 2:24 Diana's personality just jumps out at you, and goosebumps when she sing 'Yeah I'm riding high on top of the world'. You can see the sheer joy she felt singing this song. James Jamerson's baseline is such a masterful and driving force and ya can't help but move your body and bob your head, especially when they modulate up at the end. Ok, Lemme go rewatch again...
I was 15 in 1967. Everybody appeared on Ed’s show!
Happy Heavenly '78th' Birthday to dear Florence today (June 30, 2021). We Miss you ! I'm shooore Florence, you & Mary are providing the Vocals up above today... God Bless your Soul, mi favourita...
Diana was just energized in this performance. her expressions were so happy and voice perfect.
Man! Ed loved The Supremes.
