This album changed me, especially Anna Stesia. The amount of sonic detail is mind-blowing. 32 years later, I can still find little subtleties that I hadn't noticed before. It's another major testament to Prince's genius. I guess the fact that many didn't get it just made it all the sweeter for those of us who did. Albums like Lovesexy & ATWIAD are like a litmus test for true Purple Fam.
This actually is the most PROGRESSIVE album Prince created. It is an unique position in his ouvre, he hasn't done anything like this before or after. It is my most favorite Prince's album ever. It is super dense, complicated, with many changes within even same song. Positivity is an absolute TOP of this album, just the whole song construction, lyrics, and incredible solos.... i wish it lasts forever....and of course the estate should release the European leg of tour because it was simply the best ever! I have seen Prince few times (but not in '88) this is my greatest regret. It was a concert that changed everything! Live versions of "I wish U heaven", "AnnaStesia" and other songs were "once-and-only" making my jaw dropped!
Nicely done. The only I would have added in fact #9 was the fact that the cd was in a continuous play. I remember it driving me crazy that I couldnt skip to another song.
Some pressings had the tracks separated. I have a copy of each but cannot remember how I knew the 2nd one had separate tracks. I consider the 1 track version to be the 'proper one'.
My favorite Prince record. There's just such an incredible quality to it that I can't describe, but I feel like the spiritual high Prince was feeling while making it is evident through the record. And I respect his decision to make it a continuous track, especially given the "shuffle play" society we have become. Long live ALBUMS!
Lovesexy is the album that got me hooked on Prince. The guitar riff on Glam Slam was slamming! I was only a kid, but knew this album was amazing. At the same time, the Lovesexy concert was on TV. Wow. I had those two videos and watched them for years.
The only time I ever saw Prince live was on the _Lovesexy_ tour, in Pittsburgh, and it remains one of the most astonishing concerts I've ever experienced in my life. I do hope the Estate gives the Dortmund show a proper Blu-ray release at some point, and an expanded edition of the album itself (particularly with the original full-band version of "Lovesexy"). As for favorites, I'm also in the "I wish u Heaven" camp. It's so perfect, so simple. "Dance on" is a close second, though (jawdropping!).
You continue to amaze me with this series. You put together so many deep facts I've never heard. I laugh at other people's attempts to give us " unknown facts" which turn out to be often regurgitated common know facts or myths. Thank you!
Lovesexy was the first Prince album, that I ever had bought, inspired by an LA Times review of that year. I first played it on my Walkman, and was’floored’
Thanks for this! Although it's usually difficult (almost impossible for me) to narrow down just ONE favorite, I keep coming back to Lovesexy as my favorite album.
This "Facts You DIDN'T Know" series is great. Thank you for putting them together for us. I loved Lovesexy. October 16, 1988 at the Greensboro Coliseum was my first Prince concert - Lovesexy. One of the most extravagant stage shows complete with is Daddy's Thunderbird and a basketball goal set. Prince would shoot baskets during musical breaks. Loved that album.
There was a documentary on the BBC in the early nineties and at one point you can hear a Lovesexy remix in the studio. I’d love to hear the full version of this track on a rerelease from the estate. I was lucky enough to see the Lovesexy tour at NEC Birmingham when I was 14, It blew my mind and this album always stand out for me. Another great vid Violet Reality, thanks.
Love this album. Prob top 5. Prince fans know that is saying something. Surprised no mention of it being released as 1 long track on CD. I bought my first copy from BMG Record Club which is tracked.
The thing I like most about this album was that Prince reinvented funk in his image. This is a funky album, hands down. But not like what you would expect. Not like PFunk, or Rick James, or even "Prince" funk. This was so out of left-field, that I still scratch my head in wonder. There are sounds in that album that I am still discovering. He has solos that run throughout whole songs, hiding in the background, buried. It's such a weird album. Not like psychedelic-weird, but New Wave-Pop-Gospel-Prince-Funk-weird. And I love it.
Great video, Casey! ‘The Black Album’ was the sound of Prince throwing himself against the padded walls of his psyche. ‘Lovesexy’ is the sound of Prince’s soul bursting out of a straitjacket, running wild with extended sleeves and flying buckles.
With Alphabet street started my musical attention towards Prince, and instantly he became my favourite singer, artist. Listening to "Glam slam" and "I wish you heaven:" sealed everything and I'm a Prince fan since a 1987. "Lovesexy", as an album, is on my #2 personal list, while my most favourite song is of course Alphabet str. My personal top 10 includes 3 song from "Lovesexy", e.g. A.S, Glam slam and I wish you heaven. I happen to see "live" in Tv the "Lovesexy" concert in Germany, and I read it is considered one of the best concerts of Prince the Genius. Thanks for the video TVR.
I didn’t realize there are copies with the songs tagged & separate. With this information I have just found my newest EBay project, to locate and purchase one of those CD’s. Great job with the information. You actually found a tidbit I didn’t know; Positivity on Mavis’ “The Voice” As for my fav: Anna Stesia
OMG. Of course the Lovesexy tour should be digitally released. An anniversary edition of the album containing the tour would be awesome. Best song 👁 Wish U Heaven. And of course I have to say it: Elisa Fiorillo!!!!! Just last week got the vinyl of the 12” Who Found Who. BTW looking for the vinyls of 12” America & Mountains 💜🟣🟪🟣💜
Great video, for me some of the stories you dig up are so refreshing to hear again, I hadn’t heard them in so long. Other stories I had not a clue. As far as the cover art I remember hearing in that time period how many retailers wouldn’t sell the album because of it. You’re mention of Walmart was interesting to hear I had no idea that they were one of the retailers that refused to sell it. In that time period they were no where near the size they are now, they hadn’t opened up a store in my hometown yet. Today there are at least 6 super stores in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
It’s funny I didn’t realize this was continuous play since i first had it on cassette. When i bought the CD i still didn’t realize it because i never wanted to skip a song. By far top 3 favorite Prince album for me.
Thank you so much. LoveSexy is my favorite album from Prince. I really hope the Estate does a deluxe edition of the album and includes that never before released original version of the title track. I'm so curious to hear what it sounded like.
Anastasia is my favorite from Lovesexy. Mr. Leeds had just settled down for a long winter's nap when Prince called him about making that video. He wasn't too happy.
Fun fact... if you got a bar/club that has a digital jukebox.. you can play all of lovesexy for the price of just one song... b/c its one big track. I used to drive my local bar crazy :)
The line is one of my fav prince tracks I love the way it starts, the estate should definitely make a digital re-release and include all of the things that weren't as well as livesexy
It’s hard to pick a favorite song from Lovesexy as it’s one of my favorite albums of all time and one of the most unique musical experiences you could ever have, but the incredible“Anna Stesia” is definitely one of my favorites. I’ve never heard anyone else pull off the unique experience of “Anna Stesia”.
I'd love to see a deluxe box set for this album (along with the black album) like they did with 1999 and Sign o the times. If they could put the concert as a DVD or Blu-Ray along with it I'd be psyched!
0:17 look on the lower left of the CD it says "Mfd for BMG Direct Marketing Inc." BMG was one of those 12 CDs for a dollar clubs! Prince mention the practice in the 1996 song "I Rock Therefore I Am" with the line "Somebody selling 12 CDs for a dollar. Make we want to holla." Holler, because he did not get paid for those CDs as they were 'promotional.' And the VHS Version was released in two parts but part 1 was the 2nd half the show and vol 2 was the first part.
Great video man!! He really wanted everyone to hear this album from start to finish and experience this lp as a whole story. What a interesting artistic decision. ✌️ great job.
Dam! I thought you were going to explain. The concept behind him not putting blank spaces in between songs on this album. When I brought this on cassette and I was mad as hell because I had to fast forward to find a track. But I still enjoyed your info on making this great album. THANKS!
Favorite song in this album is ANNASTESIA. Any clue on why Prince made the cd to this album continuous play with not breaks in between the songs??? And does ANNASTESIA have a meaning or is it somebody his singing about?? Thabk you for your series love the facts of all of his albums
I thought I have all the studio bootlegs (especially from this era), but I was sadly mistaken. You've managed to dig another one 😊. I've never heard of the different version of Lovesexy song. My favorite is Anna Stesia. It's probably my top 10 song anyway. And I'd love to see digital release od Livesexy (the uncut version).
I just love your Facts on Prince’s CD’s so greatly done. I was hoping you would of answer on thing that I been wondering about for years. That is how come Prince release LOVESEXY all content on a single track with no track indexes. Thanks again and keep up the wonderful work.
My 2nd concert ever in life and it is something I'll never forget. I didn't "get" his medleys/chopping up his songs; I didn't like the live "Let's Go Crazy", for example. Well, now yeah it's incredible in my eyes and ears. One of my favorite albums of his and a landmark for me. PS-you asked if the estate should release the Germany video of the "Lovesexy" tour. Um, yeahhhhh. 100% agree.
This album released the same time DEAD OR ALIVE released the NUDE album. I remember the local tower records had a huge display of the two . Record , cassette, and CD of both were sprawled across a wall. I was SO HAPPY!!
My favourite prince’s album, my ranking: 9- Posivity 8- Lovesexy 7- When 2 R In Love 6- Dance On 5- Alphabet Street 4- Glam Slam 3- I Wish U Heaven 2- Eye No 1- Anna Stesia 10/10
We are long over do for this to come out on bluray. I love this record I would love a lovesexy deluxe. I also would like them to reissue the black T-shirt you showed in this video. I wish you heaven! Stay safe and healthy!
What a wonderful overview, facts I never knew.... Was the I wish U Heaven video done at this point in time? I had the privilege to go to both sold out concerts in Detroit 😊 Can't wait to see your other videos!
Love Sexy Hands down is that baddest track.. I love hoe it comes on too the base line, it's just off the fukn chain... That whole album was off the chain!!!!! REALLY HARD TO CHOSE JUST 1
This album is also the first time you hear the words New Power Generation. It's said right before Eye No and if I remember correctly there's artwork with the words written inside the album. The visual I'm not sure about. My vinyl is buried somewhere along with my parents' records
A very under-rated album, and I wish Prince himself had put ome promotion behind it; chock full of great records - Positivty; I Wish You Heaven; Dance On and yes, When 2 R in Love; but my favourite is Anna Stesia
I hope the estate does release a version of this album, even if the only difference is that it is not one continuous track. That was the single reason I hardly listened to the CD and opted instead to wear out the cassettes I kept buying and the LP.
Also, the cd and online streaming versions of this album doesn't contain individual tracks for each song. Instead the entire album is one long track. I bought the CD twice and i also have the streaming version. To have separate versions of the songs (which currently can't be purchased on their own individually) we have to rip or download the entire album to our computer and use our audio editing program of choice to trim, edit, and save each song as individual track files. It's an annoying inconvenience to do this. No ones ever explained why the digital versions of this album were released like that, but my guess is Prince did it deliberately to parent the album as one concept piece that requires the listener tio start at the beginning and not be able to skip tracks to their song of choice. Additionally since it was a fact that Prince was very instrumental in boycotting apps that shared his music to b point where his albums weren't available for streaming until the day he died, I think he put a wrench in convenientl bootlegging and ultimately prevent easy file-sharing of each individual song from the entire lovesexy project. I honestly can't find each song isolated anywhere. I wonder if Prince's estate will ever fix this problem with a properly formatted future release.it would be great to skip through the album without scrubbing the tracks for each song
Its a pleasure 👀 Ur videos. 👁've learned so much more about de ♂ n de 🎶 n continue 2 add 2️⃣ my treasured collection. Cudn't separ8 anyting from my 💜 album but if forced, 👁 always look 4ward 2 'Dance On' wen listenin, as woz intended, start 2 finish 🎵🤟🎸🎷🎹🥁🤘🎶 Keep up de gud work! Lk.
I purchased this album in cassette when it came out. I did not like it @ all. I couldn't get into the direction Prince has taking on this album. But after his passing and some of the concert footage I've seen here on RUclips. I found a much better understanding and appreciation for the genius artist that Price is. ( is in present tense 'cause to Me He's still lives in his songs). Hopping that the Prince State release not only LoveSexy live but others concert specials like Sing of the times, The Nude Tour in Spain and much more. And one of my favorite songs on this album is Glam Slam, LoveSexy and I wish you Heaven.
When 2 R in Love is one of Prince's greatest songs.
Saddest thing is never digitally releasing Lovesexy Live. Amazing tour every fan should see clearly.
I had both vol 1 & 2 on VHS..but I can't play those any more. It would be an awesome release on Blu-Ray with well-produced DTS sound. Maybe one day?
This actually is the most PROGRESSIVE album Prince created. It is an unique position in his ouvre, he hasn't done anything like this before or after. It is my most favorite Prince's album ever. Nicely done. The only I would have added in fact #9 was the fact that the cd was in a continuous play. I remember it driving me crazy that I couldnt skip to another song.
Wasn't that only the original release? I heard later versions edited it to a 9-track album.
Some pressings had the tracks separated. I have a copy of each but cannot remember how I knew the 2nd one had separate tracks. I consider the 1 track version to be the 'proper one'.
If you stream it, it's still only one long track. I bought the vinyl to this and it actually had grooves on it separating the songs
The UK had a second version with tracks released
Annasteisa is a stunning song and one of my all time favourites. It’s haunting and yet beautiful and very moving.
It was such a beautiful album cover. “Glam Slam” is my favorite song on this album.
My favorite Prince record. There's just such an incredible quality to it that I can't describe, but I feel like the spiritual high Prince was feeling while making it is evident through the record. I wish U Heaven is my favorite off lovesexy / it’s an underrated pop gem.
Top 3 Prince record for me.
1. Sign
2. Dirty Mind
3. Lovesexy.
The musicianship on this record is on another level even for a Prince record.
That’s how I felt about parade. That and lovesexy sounds nothing like anything else in his discography. Two brilliant albums
For me;
Come, Lovesexy, New Power Soul
@@taffysaur For me it was #1)1999! #2)Purple #3) Rain Sign o the times #4) Dirty Mind #5) Prince self titled Ablum. 1love

Incredible album & I soooooo wish I had gone to see to tour. The Lovesexy Concert needs to be out on DVD ASAP.

Thank you so much Carrie! We appreciate your continued support 💜
Lovesexy was my first Prince Album that I listened to. Fell in love with it and then started my Purple Journey
Appreciating this album more as I listen...fav track : Anna Steisa or I Wish U Heaven...or Alphabet Street....
I love this series 🤘💜🤘
Lovesexy was the first Prince album, that I ever had bought, inspired by an LA Times review of that year. I first played it on my Walkman, and was’floored’

My most favorite track off Prince’s Lovesexy lp is “I Wish U Heaven”.
EightiesMusiqLover Me too. The extended EP of this is so amazing!
Ditto, such a pretty song.
Love this album. Prob top 5. Prince fans know that is saying something. Surprised no mention of it being released as 1 long track on CD. I bought my first copy from BMG Record Club which is tracked.
Love this album especially “I Wish u Heaven” my fiancé bought me the “12 single recently from eBay and I treasure it 💜💜

"Dance On" just ahead of "Positivity" and 'I Wish U Heaven"

I’ll also add that I discovered a great breakup song off the Lovesexy album which is “I Wish U Heaven”
OMG. Of course the Lovesexy tour should be digitally released. An anniversary edition of the album containing the tour would be awesome.

I love this video series! Happen to know why this album isn’t streaming on Apple Music?
Anna Stesia!!! "We're just a play in your master plan, now my Lord, I understand.."
Damn bro you u did your homework keep them coming... great facts
If Prince's Lovesexy album cover photo is offensive, then I don't know what it is. At least it's better than Nicki Minaj's anaconda photoshoot.
Casey, cool new info as always ,many thanks👍🇬🇧
I definitely think the estate should release the Lovesexy tour! I was 1 day old the day the concert went out 💜
Love Sexy Hands down is that baddest track.. I love hoe it comes on too the base line, it's just off the fukn chain... That whole album was off the chain!!!!! REALLY HARD TO CHOSE JUST 1
By far, one of Prince's most creative, mystique & funkiest albums..
Would like to hear the original "LoveSexy"...
This album is also the first time you hear the words New Power Generation. It's said right before Eye No and if I remember correctly there's artwork with the words written inside the album. The visual I'm not sure about. My vinyl is buried somewhere along with my parents' records
Favorite song when the album was out was Positivity but now, it's When 2 R N Love
Favorite track ¨Anna Stesia¨💜
👁No is such a brilliant track. The horn arrangements... genius
Without a Doubt, the Most SPIRITUAL PRINCE Ablum He ever Made. 1love
Fav Song on that album was Anna Stesia.
A very under-rated album, and I wish Prince himself had put ome promotion behind it; chock full of great records - Positivty; I Wish You Heaven; Dance On and yes, When 2 R in Love; but my favourite is Anna Stesia
PRINCE was so Freaking Creative, even on a Fly the Man was so Original &. Creative, he turned Lemons into Lemonade. 1love

"I Wish U Heaven"
I heard a deluxe edition is in the works 💜
