  • When Prince was still alive, an invitation to Paisley Park was the stuff of dreams for a Prince fan.
But now, anyone with $50 can visit. You just have to drop off any camera equipment, including your phone, in the lobby - and be satisfied with committing the experience to memory.
Today marks four years since Prince’s untimely passing. And while a steady stream of unearthed material and re-releases keep his memory alive, there are plenty of superfans who would love to mark the occasion in person. But COVID-19 is preventing them from making a trip to Chanhassen to pay their respects to their idol.
Before the coronavirus pandemic shut everything down, VICE took a very exclusive look inside Prince’s enigmatic fortress with Dan Piepenbring, Prince’s unlikely co-author on the experimental biography, “The Beautiful Ones”.

He had several homes, not sure where you get this "houses and mansions everywhere" nonsense but his "original intention" for Paisley Park was for multi-purpose, one-stop-shop, work, rest and play, but you've somehow concluded that he was living there 'unintentionally' after 29 years?

My husband was invited to Paisley Park in the 90’s, a friend of his was recording in his studio and he ran into Prince in the hallway. We would go to his night club Glam Slam he owned in Minneapolis in the early 90’s. A friend paid a membership fee so we would could use the pass, you could hang out with Prince on a private floor overlooking the dance floor. He would be in the corner by himself observing, he gave the vibe he wanted to be alone. He would crash the dance floor in the downtown Mpls bars, he would walk through the middle of the dance floor with his body guards. Fun memories, he loved Mpls!

It was always like 11pm on a Wednesday night. (It didn't necessarily mean prince was going to perform. It could be a band he wanted to watch) I passed as I had to work early the few times we were invited. I never imagined we wouldn't get another chance with him passing. Oh My! How time flies! 1980 was 4 decades ago! I had a blast in that decade. I love the good quality, in-depth documentaries about everything that happened in that bombastic decade. Over the past 3 decades, many details get blurred or forgotten. I remember the music, MTV ruled the pop culture, lots of great movies--but, the other areas of the 80s I can barely recall, if at all.
Prince, Michael Jackson, and Madonna ruled the dance floors/music scene. Today, the 80s seem as if they occurred a century ago, not the 40 yrs!

He was also a man who helped people in need. That empathy side and selflessness was never highlighted. His spiritual side also was very powerful. if you listen to and hear his music it's truly
SOUL MUSIC. Just writing this to honor him and perhaps some younger generation can feel his depth and know of his greatness of heart. He was very discreet about his humanitarian side. True greatness.

I'm from Scotland, UK and could never get my head around that folk lived not far from him and would see him out and about lol. If I had lived not far from him I would have been hiding in bushes and stalking him hahaha. A bloody genius and beautiful man. I still can't believe he's gone. I'll be heartbroken all my days 💔💔💔 Forever grateful I got to see this man live on stage xx

I live in Minnesota & I am from the Twin Cities. It was an honor to have Prince as one of our own. His death impacted MANY, but us here in Minnesota... it hit hard. I visited his home with friends that were fellow fans (I would go as far to say "Super fan" lol) & left Balloons as well as a note. It wasn't much, but to be there was a great honor & now every time I watch Purple Rain... it's more of a tiny ritual in celebration of his life. Prince was awesome, there will never be another like him.
    💜RIP Beautiful one💜

I'll be very honest here, I never liked Prince or his music as a teenager of the 80"s, I was a metal head and still am. It wasn't until his untimely death when I started to watch all the videos people were posting here on RUclips that I realized what a great and talented musician he was, and that's when I said t to myself, wow I really missed out on one of the great ones.

There will never be another Prince, he was such a special talent, things are always better when you work hard, and dedicate yourself, sacrifice and become part of the vision, in his case the vision is living on , and the rebirth of his craft will continue to shock, amaze and the talent will continue to take on a life of it's on. Rest in Peace, Prince. We miss you, thank you for sharing your music, and giving us something wonderful to continue to listen to. God Bless.

I dreamt of Prince last night. He had made some paintings and wanted to explain them to the future buyers. His paintings were so beautiful but rather dark in colours, but always with a purple part standing out. Loved them. I cant believe his anniversary is today. Sooo weird. So weird.

I had a dream of him also. We was at his home and he was showing me a remix / animated version of beautiful ones. Then he looks me in the eyes and said" the beautiful ones we always seem to lose huh?" I started crying because I recently lost someone close to me then I woke up. This is the 2 time I had a dream of him in this week. It's crazy how it's on his death anniversary also 👀👀👀

Prince was not only a phenomenal song writer and persona, he was a very accomplished guitar player. Watch his solo on while my guitar gently weeps he did with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. Its mind blowing.
