I was a yard hostler for 4 1/2 years at a trucking company my brother worked at. I really enjoyed it, and it taught me a lot about truck maneuverability and the basics of backing for when I went over the road.

Very good job! I've been in this business for 28 years and it's refreshing to see young people do such a good job and take pride in their work. I've never driven a yard jockey with tandems on the unit, I love the space you have between the cab and reefer. We have reefers come in and the motor is like a foot or two from the back lol. I was a truck driver for 9 years as well. Seen a lot and it looks like your company has nice equipment. Keep up the good work.

Lift the trailer off the ground a little bit before doing the tug test. As you can see in this video, it puts a big strain on the landing gear if you dont. I've been doing this job for 19 years, and I always lift them up a couple inches before tugging. 😊

That Autocar has no rear suspension, It's axle and frame. It rides like an old log truck. The Kalmar trucks are like cadillacs in comparison, air bag suspension better placed controls etc. I drive both on a daily and always go for a Kalmar unless I want my spine compressed a little bit 🙃

Those yard goats are easy to maneuver in with their short wheel base & being up close to the very front of the tractor unlike conventional cab tractors where you're further back away from it. Also those yard goats are the most common fifth wheel cabovers in the USA these days. I remember there was a mix of cabovers & conventional cabs on USA roads back in the 1980s & down. These days I very seldom see any cabovers besides yard goats, fire trucks, garbage trucks, crane trucks, & a few others.

Driving on point! Only suggestion as someone who has been in the industry for a while, is ear plugs while hostling. That model seems quieter than any yard goat I have driven but in the long run, wearing plugs might make a difference.
