okay to save time, she tried to get more sleep, changed her diet by studying her ancestral diet, which led her to cut out most gluten, and that made a major impact. she did detoxes which removed toxins from air pollution, . she slowly weaned off thyroid meds over 14 years, and she studied her estrogen and progesterone levels , then slowly weaned off those hormone replacement drugs as the sleep and diet improvements made a positive impact. also she had a witchdoctor or some clairvoyant come into her house to burn smudge sticks of Southwestern US Native Indian sage and herbs around her home to rid the house of negative energy from the previous home owner. she didnt see that one coming,. she didnt in believe any of it but it opened her mind to think positively and to work on a positive healthy mindset. went to some functional medicine conferences and gradually over a decade , everything worked out and healed her.
- Intermited fast, having daily periods of hunger. Eat less often. - Walk 30 minutes a day, increase as possible. - 2 days a week do 20 minutes of HIIT with strength training. Increase to 60 minutes when possible. - Do elimination diet and find out what works for you. - Take digestive enzymes. - Meditate at least 10 minutes a day - Take cold showers - Weekly shock the system by alternating heat and cold. Example: 10 minutes of sauna, 10 minute of cold by jumping in a swimming pool, alternating between the sauna and pool for 1 hour. - Find your purpose - Love and accept others for who they are and the path they are on and the fact that it is different than your path. - Journal - Love yourself - Forgive yourself and forgive all others - Follow your intuition These were not mentioned here but I felt the need to put this.
You don’t work our nearly enough. You need to work our every day. HIIT and strength training are both important. HIIT will improve your cognitive abilities and strength training will give you bone density and muscle that increase longevity.
@@johnvictorengland7703 anymore than 3 times a week and you don't give yourself enough time to recover and build muscle properly and it depends what your goal is. For purposes of purely maintaining health this is more than enough.
@@NintCondition You're correct. 3 times a week is more than enough. Everyday working out actually wears down the body unless you are in your early twenties. Muscles and other systems need time to recover between workouts on the cellular level.
Bottom line: YOU DON'T NEED MEDICINE :) Medicine is like a band aid to help you relieve the pain temporary without fixing the root cause. If you take your time and do your research, you will find the cure from the nature. I said this because I have done it and it helps me tremendously when my PCP only gave me pain killer with side effect :((
it also creates an energetic "intensity"..its how prayers get "answered" asap, because we are all energy and vibration...we are emitting a frequency like radio station...how strong or weak it is is dependent on us and our desire/intent😀
I don't know why so many docs stop learning in med school. I used to think I was practicing "alternative" medicine. Now I think it is an augmented style to all the conventional medicine.
I wanted to briefly share how I got my Hashimoto's thyroiditis in remission. 3 years ago I got a infection in pancreas which cause me to be nauseous so I didn't eat for 9 days (basically fasting, however definitely not planned) but tried to keep up my fluid intake. It just happened that when I recovered I needed to have my labs drawn and my doctor was so surprised because my labs reflected 90% remission of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Asked all kinds of questions and once found out I hadn't eaten for 9 days, only had fluids asked if would wait 6 months and do another long fast (5-9 days) and see if we would get it in complete remission. That is exactly what happened after the second fast and now 3 years later, I am still in remission from Hashimoto's thyroiditis. :)
Sometimes the T3 T4 was out of balance and sometimes spot on. Antibodies were for Hashimoto was always high until I did the 9 day fast and by the 2nd time (6 month later) no more. I had my immune system chinking away at my thyroid for 35 years, so it will take some time to have it recover/regenerate and we are working on that. After the fast, to break the fast (especially since this was a longer fast) I would break it with bone broth and after an hour or so, depending on how I felt, I would have half of an avocado and wait and see how my gut was doing and slowly introduce different food again. Also before the bone broth I would take ion biome on empty stomach to restore gut balance. Dr. Mindy Pelz is a wealth of information on fasting, especially for women (find her on youtube)

I’m an acupuncturist with a background as a histotechnologist. I am so grateful for this combination that has helped me see health issues in the the eyes of western medicine and how it correlates to disease patterns in traditional Chinese medicine. I love the power of herbal medicine. We treat the whole person, not a named disease. Diseases must be treated on all levels: physical body (electrical, structural), chemical (nutritional, microbiome) and spiritual/emotional. If one area is affected eventually all areas are affected.
I have a chronic illness and my ex rheumatologist laughed at me. Changed to a different one in the same office. Total difference! Be your own advocate!
My rheumatologist was no help so I got a second opinion. The 2nd did some tests and concluded "I wasn't 25 anymore." Finally, I found a doctor who wanted to solve the mystery and discovered I have intrinsic factor antibodies and needed B12 shots. I feel like myself again! And it only took lots of struggling with doctors and thousands of dollars worth of tests!
This should be required listening for every doctor. It’s so frustrating when doctors lable people with mental illness or being a “difficult patient.” The exact same thing happened (is happening) to me. Everyone including my own wife thinks it’s all in my head. The arrogance/ignorance of so many doctors is just tragic.
We are difficult patients, or lots of us are. The problem is that the doctors are the reason we become difficult patients. When doctors contradict each other and say things that are completely incoherant or irrelevant we can do nothing other than say "hang on doctor that doesn't make sense". They are incapable of accepting the validity of our remarks and they don't like us questioning their opinion. For many of us our lives are falling appart around us and doctors refusing facts because they don't understand them is very frustrating. Our frustration is legitimate and doctors should take this into consideration and not presume that the frustration is just because we are weak minded hense all are problems are psychological. When you've seen enough docrors who are all too happy to accept that it's all in your head your friends and familly find it very difficult to not believe them. After all they are doctors and they are supposed to know what is going on. It most certainly is tragic, and i hope you find the answers that you are in so much need of.
I truly feel like this is an epidemic and so many people struggle with a similar story. Mine was 10 years ago and it took so much for me to heal. But even the functional medicine doctors were not helpful. It took so much strength to heal.
@@camendt75 It is an epidemic. The quality of the air on the planet has reached the point where many peoples lymphatic systems can't cope well enough. It's a more crap coming in than going out situation, it all builds up at different speeds for each inividuel. Women are more affected than men because the gas exchange in the lungs is different, they have smaller lungs. Eating a more healthy diet reduces the crap intake and helps the body cope better with what we are breathig. It's not rocket science. Eat a vegan diet or a carnivor diet, filter the air and the water and they will both help. It cannot be because of the specific diet they are totally contradictory.
I'm 63 and avoid doctors, nearly all of whom have failed to help me, and in one case badly scared me with a false diagnosis. What I have learned from self-experimentation is that "less is more," meaning less food, less often. I'm not interested in weight loss, merely feeling optimal, and fasting gives the body time to heal, followed by a healthy diet of real foods. Aside from posting this, I don't discuss my health regimen, as it provokes a lot of unwanted advice and even worry. Do your own research, so much easier these days, thanks to videos such as this one and many more. Best wishes to all for a healthy 2020 and beyond.
@serendipidus1 I agree. There's a famous quote by Sir William Osler, thought to be the "father of medicine" (I talk about his writing in my last video). He said, "Listen to the patient. S/he is telling you the diagnosis."
I began my painful journey when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. Went to doctor after doctor (M.D.'s) Of course my tests were coming up "normal" so they told me I that it was "in your head". Finally I went to a D.O. & was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Took yrs of self help & changing my diet. That was 30 yrs ago. I'm feeling great now & have not had a flare up in 15 yrs. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I love hearing TWO DOCTORS discussing how the basic medical system does not know it all. Acknowledging the body systems tied together with diet. HUGE! Thank you!
I once dared to tell my specialist that certain food trigger an auto immune response on me by experience. He immediately didn't want to listen to that. But I knew that he wasn't going to listen in the first place, I would never bother again because only if he had the disease himself he would know first hand. Yes, Food with Gluten specially cookies makes me feel terrible right the next day, I don't need a doctor to tell me otherwise.
@@livenow1788 That is an understatement. I would look at it upside down, there are few fields where conventional medicine is effective and those are not diseases but trauma and wounds or broken bones and the invention of antibiotics, antifungal and antivirus. 95% of conventional medecine is treating symptoms, knocking down the patient with drugs (opiates) or cutting a part of the body. That sums it up.
Out of the hundreds of autoimmune doctors I've heard or read about, she resonates the most. I noticed how most doctors are always missing one factor: our own intuition. Not one body is the same and it's very important to connect to our own body to feel what it needs. Yes, docs help to guide us but not many teach us how to connect to and listen to our own bodies, these beautiful vessels that are much more intelligent than we allow them to be! Go Dr. Li!
I went through every single stage of illness that Dr. Li went through. I'm year 6 into my healing journey but KNOW that my autoimmune journey started YEARS before I hit rock bottom. I decided to take control of my health and saw major improvements and can now say that I absolutely put my autoimmune disease into remission. It propelled me to spread the message as far and wide as I could. I switched careers and made my life mission to help people get over their thyroid/hashimoto's disease!
Where do you practice? I recently took myself off my meds and feel better already. But weight gain and some other issues are a problem. I have growths in my thyroid that so will get rechecked every year or six months. But the meds were giving me heart issues.
@@victoriaaustin2468 I healed myself of a severe asthmatic histamine intolerance/auto-immune disorder in *_5 months_* and lost 26 lbs in the process by adopting a fasting lifestyle with very clean food when I did eat. I can totally relate to all of these. I stopped seeing my doctor & started living my life again . Fr the basics. Sleep, movements, rhythm, eating properly ( I thought I was before but I wasn’t doing enough) , and stress ..getting rid of toxic people around me . Until today I’m still learning, food, sleep, our body & mind & getting rid of the rashes & joint aches all over my body. I am healing myself not by traditional medicine but what my grandparents did ...all back to basic & jump start my body . Traditional medicine is not for chronic diseases. Doctors can’t tell what sort of autoimmune diseases I got . Gluten..got rid of that devil 5 years now. Reading all food labels. Preparing all my meals & walking 30mins a day !
Similar experience but I'm a nurse, I had celiac, Sjogrens, fatty liver, HTN, depression and anxiety from a bad diet. I quit the meds and fasted at 1st then started a diet full of healthy fats and nutrients. I feel so much better. I'm sitting next to a stack of old text books. Learning meditation was a turning point for me. There's too much wrong in our current medical system to mention. Here's to seeking and finding real health!
There is a Very REAL connection between our physical/biological self and our emotional/spiritual self. When you are able to understand and to heal the inner-emotional self; your physical self can be fine tuned and repaired. This I believe whole-heartedly from my own experience in healing. The hardest part is getting to the root of the 'trauma' when a person may not know or recognize it may exist in one's self. Sometimes this is hard to accomplish if you are being artificially medicated. The body is equipped with the ability to heal. Finding the right way is key.
This video should be mandatory for ALL DOCTORS as part of their CE. They should also mandate 1000 hours of nutrition training for ALL doctors as well. This story with Cynthia Li is MY story too! Becoming violently ill in Mexico while on honeymoon - and I was "never the same since." Later finding out I had chronic Lyme, Endometriosis, Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Celiac Disease, PCOS....and so on after seeing a string of specialists. It was finally a homeopathic doctor that was able to educate me of the cascade effect of the food I was eating and stressful lifestyle I was living (Lean Cuisine was a "healty meal" and running 8-10 miles per day on the treadmill followed by an hour of heavy weight lifting FOR YEARS). I thought I was "so on top of things" and boy was I wrong. After years of coming to terms with my food sensitivities and hormone imbalances, I'm finally starting to recover. After gaining 85 pounds due to exercise intolerance and overall fatigue (and depression) I'm about 75% back to a healthy body. @@ralsharp6013 Yes, it's best to avoid the consumption of this oil or any food with sunflower oil due to the fact it is too high in polyunsaturated omega-6 fat and is highly refined and oxidized which greatly contributes to chronic inflammation plus the formation of damaging free radicals in the body. You are much better off eating a small amount of sunflower seed. Avocado, extra virgin olive & coconut oil are much safer and healthier. Grass-fed ghee/butter is also a healthy choice. It can also be used externally as a paste applied to the skin to heal a rash or minor cuts or wounds more quickly without scarring.
@@DarkAngel-cj6sx Yes, I'm currently taking chaga daily for overall health and disease prevention. More specifically, I'm taking two different mushroom products. One is a blend of five medicinal mushrooms (reishi, chaga, cordyceps, turkey tail, lion's mane) with cacao and coconut palm sugar and the other product is just ground chaga powder. They are both dual extraction and micronized to obtain the full benefits and for better/improved absorption. They are kind of expensive but it's much easier than purchasing the raw material and making my own from scratch at home. Besides the fact that I really like and enjoy chocolate so it's a win-win for me.
My doctor let me use the natural route for a crippling autoimmune disease. She was wonderful. She said she took an oath so if she saw things getting really bad she would have to give me meds as per her oath but it’s my choice to take them or not. As she saw me getting better and better she started learning natural medicine. She was wonderful, supportive and life changing in my healing. I’ve got a great doctor ❤️. The doctor prior to her, when I was noticing little symptoms here and there but didn’t know it was autoimmune, she told me “you’re young, you’re thin, you’re fine. It’s all in your mind”. Meanwhile my body was attacking itself hour by hour.
Yesss!!!!!! Absolutely yes!!! You are correct and your doctor is a doctor and not a parrot repeating what they have been teach since the beginning of their carrier. Mine are like that or I teach them Lol! Some of them are listening carefully now about other ways to do. One of them saved his legs by just receiving a lymphatic drainage! After 17 days hospitalized and receiving the strongest antibiotics ever, he did not improved. I recommend the drainage because it was clear that his system was clogged and was just transporting garbage up and down all day long without having the capacity to clear itself and the body from harming crap. And of course, could not transport the antibiotic to the needed places. He did and a little later he was running like a kid and he is big man! How could he forgot what lymphatic system is about? Well they know what it is but do not know how to holistically work with it. Same with the rest of the body- mind - spirit.
This is my story. After more than 15 years of trying to figure out what was wrong with my body, I ended up with a Psychiatrist telling me that I had Clinical Depression. I explained to him that if I had Clinical Depression why do I still have goals? People with depression lose hope. That was not me. I just wanted my body to help me achieve, and my body was tired and in pain, so that was frustrating me. I explained that my body is making me get frustrated, and that leads to depression. He wouldn't listen to me. A couple of times he even dozed off in front of me...like sorry for boring you sir. He waived me off and just handed me the slip for the next appointment. I have found my own remedies, and today, I own my own wellness clinic specializing in massage. I see many people who are this same position, and I am happy to fast track them to wellness. Now, I refer patients to functional medical doctors who they can go to to get real answers.
This is exactly what is happening with me. I've been sick 13 years which has caused depression. I also have dreams and goals but this pain and suffering is stopping me from Doing anything which is making me depressed. 😢 No ones listening.
I followed Dr. Brooke Goldner and Dr. Berg's advise. They have lots of videos on youtube and they are SOOO helpful. What helped me was changing my diet and introducing more vegetables (juicing them every morning really helps - spinach, kale, celery, chard, zuccini) . Stay away from high inflammatory foods like highly processed foods, gluten, dairy, sugar. Goodluck!!!
There is a famous saying in Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine), quite simply put, 'food is medicine'....it cant solve everything, but truly changing your food habits changes the game...
I was diagnosed with lupus at 25 yrs. I always rebelled against the high dose, toxic drugs the doctors wanted to put me on. I only took the bare minimum and ate well, got lots of rest and have remained as stress free as possible and I'm still alive 30 yrs later and I'm not a big toxic, bloated mess. Conventional medicine is almost worthless for autoimmune illness in my opinion.
After being diagnosed with connective tissue, RA then lupus over 13 years, I’m scared. I want to remain hopeful but at time I can’t stop myself feeling fearful, lonely and helpless
Stress can trigger cancer and many serious conditions. My adrenals/thyroid are a mess. This may or may not have been caused by stress, but the physical results are very real. To dismiss "stress" is such a cop out.
This is really great to see that doctors are speaking up. I wanted to mention that I learned that alot of cheese is processed with gluten and is not marked as containing gluten. I was in France trying to order a gluten free cheese dish and the chef came out to me and says that alot of these cheeses we produce are made with gluten - it's really made a difference for me to stick to the cheeses that are marked gluten-free.
When dairy is pastuerized, it completely changes the structure of it from beneficial to harmful. Raw dairy is healing to the body. Dr. Axe compared pastuerized milk to vegetable soy oil loaded with sugar, whereas; raw milk is fine.
Gluten will kill the body yet everything is made with it. Try finding a loaf of bread without it. Impossible. And, if you do find gluten free it’s unbearable in taste.

From my experience: if you have a chronic condition, read as much as possible about it in legitimate scientifically validated sites. Observe your symptoms and keep a notebooks and record everything you do, eat and frequency of your symptoms. NO doctor however skilled can replace your observations. However for urgent need go to UC or ER. Above all follow a healthy lifestyle including proper diet, exercise, meditation and take things easy. Kathryn Alberalla you are absolutely correct! They want to have you depending on 100 different pills to keep treating side effects from the other 50 pills. It’s a disgusting and sad cycle. And the saddest part is that our society has been conditioned that this is the only way to be treated.
Kathryn Alberalla 100% correct! I’ve been experiencing this for over 10yrs. If the doctors had their way, I’d be on 20 diff medications. @@AP-bo1if Yes, I know, but as these diseases progress they tend to damage vital organs, and when in life endangering situations, one is drawn back into the quagmire of 'modern medicine'.

Wow! 'Difficult patient' stigma is something I know so v well! also, the way drs treat you with psychiatric meds - anti- anxiety, depression... so glad to hear someone else knows and understands it. Being told often to visit a psychiatrist. Autoimmune is a lonely journey.
I wonder if I will ever encounter a physician who says this to me? They know I am an academic, clinical, and research psychologist with 20 plus years experience, they wouldn't dare! I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism due to low TSH levels. The diagnosis is always confirmed in lab work, not just symptoms in traditional medicine. This is for insurance coding and billing purposes. We have the same paradigm in clinical psychological practice. Am on thyroid meds. I think this started with a meal in a Houston Chinese restaurant in the late 1980s. Dont remember what I ate. I was 40, dizzy, so dizzy I was throwing up. After a month, I had a MRI to check for brain tumor. I have have had balance issues ever since 30 yrs. FInally after four mos wearing scopalomine patches my vertigo eased up. I had had chicken pox in my childhood. Later in my 60s, Shingles appeared, treating with aycyclovir. I had dental issues took two courses of antibiotics killed all my gold gut bacteria, got systemic candida. Treating that with Fluconazol. Some functional medicine pratitioners have studied thousands of medical studies and found that three common factors were in most thyroid patients a viral infection, followed later, sometimes years later by vertigo, tiredness etc.,. Then high stress becomes a trigger. Finally gluten and sometimes dairy sensitivity. That fits my path. I am certain I have had chronic low level hypothyroidism. The causes were multiple. THe management is multiple.....I have inflammation of nerves with numb feet, cold hands and feet, muscle tiredness and weakness, it is believed the cerebellum in the lower back of the brain is inflammed infectiong balance etc. I have periodic brain fog...my intellect when not exhausted and inflammed, is not affected, not my long term memory. My short term memory IS affected when I am inflammed but not, when I am not inflamed. I am not depressed , I was mystified and curious, not, happy about symptoms but otherwise happy in my life. I know everything has a cause. I was eating a very healthy high plant medium protein diet, low sugar, low gluten diet. Now I know that isnt enough for ME at THIS stage I must have NO sugar, substitutes, or gluten. SO this is a journey for me now my body needs more protein, red meats as I was anemic . More spinach, folic acid supplementation. Zero gluten. Zero sugar.
@@latinaalma1947 i just got the same symptoms low tsh, normal t3 t4. muscle tiredness weakness with just little usage. May i know if you have cured yourself? is the answer zero gluten and sugar?
I am a physician and was treated the same way before being diagnosed with lupus 10 years ago. I am sorry you were treated inhumanely. There is no other word for it. Self trust and nutrition is the beginning of great healing. Hope you are doing better. Be brave.
One very important point the doctor made here was the spiritual/emotional awareness and healing. In my personal experience, emotional baggage tends to get stored in the body and eventually manifests as physical symptoms. Being in touch with your emotions, healing trauma through writing, praying, meditation, forgiveness of self and others is paramount. Finally, l agree with the anti inflammatory/detox/clean diet are important in healing and prevention. But l would also add fasting as an important ingredient in staying healthy. I highly recommend it to all my patients as a means to lose wait and heal/prevent chronic disease and cancer.
So true.... we are body, soul, and spirit. Physical, emotional, and spiritual. What affects one, affects the others! And unforgiveness (of self and others) causes all kinds of diseases, especially cancer.
@@elenadecosta l mean abstaining from all foods for a min of 18 hrs to a whole day done once a week. Always with your doctors approval because fasting is not for everyone.
I really like the word "step-wise" to describe the healing journey. It can seem so overwhelming to cut out gluten, dairy, sugar, and meditate if progress is not made in a step-wise manner. Start with something such as cutting out gluten, and take your time with it. When you are ready, go to the next step. With every step, you realize that you are that much stronger and you can keep going.
🌿🌸🕊 what you're saying is true unless you have a life threading disease (have already had heart surgery, severe diabetes, cancer, severe arthritis etc.) then you don't have the luxury of changing your diet/lifestyle slowly.
That's what I did. Just little steps that grew into bigger and even better steps. The challenge is getting the family to understand why you don't want to cook their shit food anymore because they have not yet experienced the down fall.
It was not an accident that I came across this video at this point in my life, suffering for a long time now from an auto-immune disease. Thank you for sharing Dr. Li and Dr. Hyman. God bless you and yours!
I have an autoimmune condition, symptoms of lupus. Lichen Planus, heart, liver, kidnney and spleen pain. I gave up trying to be heard by the doctors, so I started researching. And that made them angry, my doctor's office sent me a letter telling me I couldn't see my doctor any more because I had asked them to stop sending me to specialists. The ones I had seen had given me drugs without telling me they planned to, and were treating me with disrespect. There was a kidney doctor who yelled at me for not wanting radioactive iodine. I had been having thyroid symptoms and my mother has hashimotos. I said I didn't want contrast. And this woman treated me like I was being a difficult 4 year old. She was the last straw. I asked to just give me blood tests and stop sending me to specialists anc they tlld me I couldn't come there for testing or to see my primary anymore.
So sorry you had to go through that. The arrogance of the medical establishment is horrible. And many times when you talk to them and ask questions, they have no answers.
That is so sad I just think its not how, they should treat people they are paid to help why not discuss why ,, they want you to have certain meds what for and what they help !,, and what side effects could be

Einstein's Cat That is a life long journey. One thing I suggest is to step outside yourself and try and see the person (which is you) as the primary care giver of that soul. You have been given huge responsibilities with that soul. How are you going to take care of it?
I commented in more detail on the thread below regarding the summary of the interview, but overall I'd say, this interview was worth it and think every PCP and medical student should watch it. She clearly expressed what every single person who's suffered from any type of chronic pain and gone through the usual channels in our "healthcare" system feels when no answers are found and every specialist sees you with a narrowed lens and no answers mean it's in your head type of thing
A great interview, thanks. As a chiropractor who does Functional Medicine for decades I found the self journey about thinking ,"I know it all" as a ____ doctor that this applies to all doctors, DCs, MDs, NDs, etc. We think the one thing we learned or found is the only or main way to heal people and we lose our open mindedness to other disciplines of healing, traditional and modern. Be open minded as a doctor and never stop being open to other ideas if healing. Thanks.
This conversation strengthens my faith in God. We are designed and everything works in unison the way God intended. I’ve never heard the term Functional Medicine before but I understand it immediately.
Lo Mei Seh. Yes, but how did she heal? Good was to hear she learned basic intuition, to turn off the left brain and on the right. To take herself for walks at regular times, not just her dog! To get sleep, since that gives necessary energy etc. Did you get what else? And WHAT is the inflammation diet? Vegs? Some say animal protein is good for inflammation, my nutrition therapist said it gives inflammation, at least in larger quantities. Idk what to eat, esp since OI can't digest protein, not carbs and not sugar, and have been stuck in sugar addiction and compulsive over-and undereating for years. With teeth eroding and breaking quickly and terribly, I can't even chew properly which worsens digestion, absorption etc, and I have too much stress and anxiety to chew for long, too. So exhausted, get very little done, and feel chased by the need tió save my life an´nd do sth useful and LIVE. Hope you answer. I am serious in self-help, but too threatened, sleep deprived, malnourished through stress and isolated to be clear and motivated. HAve struggled for decades.
@@Medietos Animal protein from (almost all) mammals does give inflammation, just research Neu5Gc. There is one thing which reduces inflammation more than anything else; Omega-3 oil. Flax seed is the only seed which has much more Omega-3 than Omega-6. Our stomach acid can't break down the hull, so it needs to be ground first. If using only the oil; flax seed oil oxidizes easily (is called going rancid), so needs to be kept cool and as hermetically sealed as possible. You also need some coconut oil with it, to enable to body to convert it to the usable form. Get a nutrients & minerals test done, and take care of any deficiencies, primarily through diet, secondly through supplements. Both magnesium and calcium are a lot easier to just take as supplement. You should aim to transisition to a mostly alkaline, ketogenic diet. Stay away from highly processed artificial "foods". If you can't chew your food, use a grinder or blender first.
@@silvergreylion thanks, but what made you think I did not know anything because I had forgotten just that Q? Oh, how I need advice on the things I do NOT know! And individual support. Have to get blood sugar in order and manage to eat 3 meals, and with small portions only of wild meat, it should be Ok.I am too sick for the health program with HMA I want to do, and need assistence to manage. An advocate to get the assistence...I know my imbalances 2,5 years ago, and don't think they are better, since stress is too bad for body to digest and absorb etc. Can't make energy, freezing since years , with hot skin and freezing cold. Would you be good enough to Please pray for my peace, stress relief, assistence, restitution, home, money, healing situation and -helper?. Keep well.
@@Medietos Have you ever had a stool sample analyzed with regard to the bacterial composition? From your symptoms/condition, I'd say your intestinal flora could be out of balance / "corrupted". This can happen with strong antibiotics, as they can kill off part of your intestinal flora, and it doesn't always recover by itself. Thing is, some bacteria keep others in check, in that they prevent them from multiplying too much and 'taking over', but if they're (almost) gone, then you'll have some overgrowth. If your stool sample shows a high percentage of fungus (which it never should), then that's a big part of what's wrong. If you have a temporary improvement from eating something with crushed garlic (which is very anti-fungal), then that's because the fungus dies off temporarily, but grows back once you eat something with carbohydrates, as it consumes primarily sugars, and keeps doing so, causing your blood sugar to crash. This is what causes abnormal sugar cravings. Now, it's not healthy to keep eating lots of garlic for weeks on end, and it will remove some calcium, so taking a calcium supplement is necessary if trying this. Colloid silver is another powerful anti-fungal remedy, but should be used sparingly, especially at first. Edit: forgot to mention, the acids and byproducts produced by fungi will lower your body pH-level and be detrimental to your teeth, which was another clue to me.
@@silvergreylion : Thank you warmly from my pit, I am touched by your caring. I did have stool and other samples done in 2004, yes. Who are you, a professional or amateur, interested, healing yourself maybe? Would you possibly be in the position of caring to help me, coaching? The situation is more complex than you outlined, although it is interesting. What schools do you know and believe in? I can't go on being thrown here and there by many others' theories and views, that in itself has made me worse from stress, splitting. What I need is someone to actually consult, who doesn't hijack me and not need to know best, know it all and control me, decide for me, , but who is big enough to stand back , be of service and help me find my healing. I have been close for decades, but stress to death by lack of wisdom in many in helping positions . We human beings tend to project unto oyhers what we are absorbed in ourselves and finding out about, "seeing2 it everywhere. That can get incorrect, like the email chiropractor who from my stressed-emotional email decided that I had Mould sickness. I applied to him for helping me through a Nutritional Balancing Science program. Not denying that it may be possible, but he seemed on the fanatic, rigid side about it, which tired and frustrated me and made the contact stop sadly. I want(ed) help with that healing program, his hypothesis could have been a later option. I can't be any more pressured by someone else's wish to control in very limited knowledge of me.. If you want to help me, I can tell and reply to everything you need to know. But have to know that you know enough first, I have been much maltreated and up to today been severely harmed. So please think of my safety and protection. I hope you answer. State what extent of engagement you are able and wílling to, so that I keep my material within proper bounds. It would be a good change to receive support or help... Btw, I know one doesn't ave to know it all to be of help, the human etheric and heart interaction does it work in the invisible and psychological-spiritual. Still, some has to be in place. Symptoms are one thing but the CAUSE may differ and demand different measures, right? Are you well or working at your healing? Emotionally?
It took 4 years for Dr’s to diagnose me. Many specialists, many different diagnosis. I was super depressed. I, finally, went to an Internist who decided to do a Pneumo Vac test. She took my blood, then injected me with 12 strains of Pneumonia. I returned 4 weeks later. She compared my blood to the original blood sample. I was diagnosed with CVID. I felt relieved. I started the the IVIG treatment. I did it for 5 years. I still have problems with GI and arthritis but, at least , I know what I have. It is VERY frustrating to repeat your symptoms over and over. I pray for all of you that don’t know what you have. Don’t let Dr dictate to you. There are many times that they are wrong. Insist on tests that you think might shed light. Trust your gut. You know your body. ❤❤
So thankful for this interview. Truly empowered me & validated my suffering. How I feel and my rights matter, too. No longer allowing these Dr’s to tell me how my body should feel or what I should do. Started IF, healing my gut, I know once I get to the root of the problem all the other symptoms will go away. To those suffering - trust yourself! You will find the answers in time. And if any Dr’s don’t take you seriously or dismiss/undermine you - move on! Find someone who has compassion, asks you the right questions & seeks to understand rather than be understood. Much love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I had a dozen doctors look at me for 3 years, and eventually concluded that my symptoms (head-to-toe nerve issues) were psychosomatic. Therapy did and is continuing to help, but there's so much more to the story. I was basically abandoned after they decided everything was "in my head." Over the past couple years I've been strengthening my body, eating dofferently, sleeping properly, and prioritizing self care. I've been learning about trauma and how it affects the vagus nerve, about histamine intolerance, and about leaky gut -- and I'm slowly fixing myself. Didn't even have to go to med school. 😂 Looking into thyroid health now, thanks! 💕✌️
THIS!!!!!! Just in & out!!! No empathy or compassion!! My rheumatologist can’t even pronounce my name & wants to give me lots of drugs!!! No questions of my past, lifestyle, mental health. Nothing. Like someone else commented, be your own advocate & trust yourself! We live in our own bodies, we know our bodies better than anyone!
This is BRILLIANT. I love these conversations around breaking out of the “modern medicine paradigm”. It has a strong hold on the masses. The fact that you both had awakenings is NO accident. This is your calling.. to wake up people to the power of ourselves, the power of healing, and the power of how nature intended for us to live!!! Bravo
Very interesting and insightful podcast. I am a family doctor myself and have suffered from chronic conditions. I think util you become really sick yourself, you dont really challenge the traditional western medicine. I love to be able incorporate holistic medicine into my practice and help my patients beyond just numbers ! Thanks for this :)
while this may sound strange, to be a great holistic doctor you should go examine their kitchen...that will tell you all you need to know, if it's junk? or if there's "nothing"? then that's even worse, they are fast food junkies...either way it's where any treatment should start
I liked the podcast so much that I watched it twice. I felt like you were talking about me even though I am still 27 years old and I have to deal with this disease... I have changed my lifestyle and I feel good without any medications since the beginning of the disease.. I want to add that the part about Intuition was the best part because in Islam, thanks to Allah, we learned to have a strong faith that Allah will heal us, and we have to rely on Him and believe in Him. Start by taking all means of healing and not relying only on modern medicine, and this is what I did with God’s help.
This is VERY enlightening. As a 70 year old retired physician this talk makes me want to totally relearn medicine FUNCTIONALLY!. Unfortunately cost is prohibitive.
@centerpromise5900 How I would love to have conversation with You. Anything science, thought process, the proof in the pudding, etc. So many theories I've postulated have been proven correct and OBSERVATION is such an incredible teacher! Not coversations anyone I've ever met really cares to have. I did pre-med at Rutgers. 3.96. No funds for medical school. Have a wonder-filled 2024 New Year!!!
Your candid conversation about putting the care back into healthcare post medical school was deep! Thank you both for your perseverance and personal sharing.
Dr. Li... you made me start crying my eyes out mid-interview... Dr. Hyman... what a gem you are. I finally started consulting with Functional Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and just one month in and it is saving my life... I am in disbelief of my own progress.
I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me, retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income-generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45
Nobody knows anything, you need to create your own process, manage risk and stick to the plan, through thick or thin while also continuously learning from mistakes and improving
@@BrunoLuke Having an investment adviser is the best way to go about the market right now, especially for near-retirees, I've been in touch with a coach for a while now mostly cause I lack the depth knowledge and mental fortitude to deal with these recurring market conditions, I netted over $220K during this dip, that made it clear there's more to the market that we avg joes don't know
This! This right here speaks to my soul! It is the type of healthcare practice I want to learn more about and absorb as much as I can. I’m a nurse, and I knew right away there is something wrong and something profoundly missing in our healthcare system. It discouraged me from the field, I almost wanted to change careers, especially during this pandemic. I’ve watched both my mom and my aunt’s health deteriorate drastically, they’re both ICU nurses, they both had to force retire and did not fully enjoy their retirement. I made a promise to learn from their mistakes and to put my health first. Thus video gives me hope. The body is so smart! And everything works together, not in isolation.
Thank you for your story. It’s my story too. My name is Linda Lam MD full time hospitalist. 3 months after the birth of my son, all my energy and spine went down hill. This started 7 years ago. There are days that I want to just give up but I don’t want to leave my children at such a young age. Thank you. Will get your book.
Other than Hyman's occasional interruptions, I found Li's retelling of her journey compelling and informative. Thank you for holding space for her experience.
This has been my life for the last 18 years. I’ve just finish Mark Hymans book and I’m starting my health journey in two days. Just waiting for my food shopping to arrive. I’m so excited to get better for me and my loving family. Xxx such great people
I went through the same experience as Dr. Li. after the birth of my child , i got thyroid disease and it couldnt be diagnosed for many months in traditional medicine. It wasnt until my neck had protruded and swollen , and i started getting these heat attacks, that i was taken seriously. As is the trend here in Kenya, after delivery, one is put on birth control because it is claimed that when a woman is breast feeding, that is when she is most fertile. That worked against me and literally messed up my whole hormonal system. I am lucky to have finally diagnosed Graves Disease, but a close friend of mine died after she gave birth to her baby, because her hyperthyroidism could not be detected. I then founded the Thyroid Disease Awareness Kenya Foundation just to help people learn exactly what is being discussed here. We hope to demistify this myth and empower people to take charge of their own health, by arming them with the right information. So happy right now to hear these two traditional doctors accept the fact that traditional medicine and what they are taught is not always the truth. The body is a very complex combination of systems that so delicately depend on one another, and when one system is off, then the rest of the systems cannot work properly. The endocrine system is the most under emphasized system in the medical world, and yet the most important systems in the body. Like people here will tell you of the digestive system, the reproductive system, but the endocrine system is so foreign. We are working to demistify that.
Oh wow I will check out your foundation. I did have some thyroid issues and I healed with apple cider vinegar, mediation, baking soda, exercise and being positive. No one understands thyroid issues in Kenya. Thanks dear for bringing this up.

This was a very inspiring video! I am 69 years old and have been sick for 5 months so far and just found out today that I have an autoimmune disease. After hearing Dr. Cynthia Li’s story, I now have more faith that I can get well. Thank you both very much for not only telling us your own stories that some of us can relate to but also for being so honest to describe the differences between conventional medicine and functional medicine. It is very refreshing to hear two respected doctors admit that so many doctors not only don’t believe what we tell them but they leave so much unresolved. It is wonderful to hear you are both medical doctors that see and know that functional medicine has so much to offer to all of us. I only wish that all doctors would take the time to listen to you both!! Thank you again!!!
This is perhaps the best broadcast on chronic fatigue I have seen. The onset of my own disease is echoed in a lot of the scenarios (except pregnancy!). Certainly, the travel and getting sick in a foreign culture and country on a different diet. The removal of gluten made a radical difference too and taking strain of the thyroid , digestion and adrenals, as well as gradually addressing hormonal imbalance is totally correct.
I was in pain for 5 years, it affected my mental health, positivity, my work. Five doctors dismissed me and one told me I should get counselling as I was imagining the pain. I described the pain as shards of glass, scratching my insides. I now understand what it was thanks to Sally K Norton. It was High Oxalates in my body.
Me too! Go to Sally’s website and download the list of high and low oxalate foods. Not just spinach and almonds, but things like black pepper and chocolate. It is helping me a lot.
I had this same symptom when I had endometriosis during mid-cycle and when I had to have a b.m. I was in a horrible amount of pain. When I had a total hysterectomy at age 33 all of the pain went away. The doctor told me my uterus was folded backwards like an envelope from the scarring and it was a miracle I was able to have my son. Sometimes treatments like herbs and food won't heal things in the body that need to be cut out. I know many people will disagree with me but my own experience has made it clear to me.
I am a shaman and when you described the figure not wanted to leave, I can feel the goosebump. lol Thanks for sharing. During my awakening of becoming a shaman, I went through the same experiences. From doctors to doctors, specialists, acupuncture, herbalists, therapy, GI, EKG, Urgent care to ER, and nothing worked. I was only dx with anxiety and GI issue. I started doing my own research and starting listening to my intuition and practice yoga and meditation. I listen to my body, pay attention to what I eat and how I cook it. Only you can cure yourself when no one can't. I believe that your wellness has to be balance with being physically, mentally, and spiritually.
I was chronically ill and clairvoyant. Born with both. Never discount the unseen or misunderstood factors. Everything is energy. All is connected. Vibration matters. There is not just the physical …. All physicians should heal thyself first!!! On all levels before administering to others. Thank you for sharing the wealth of your growth and recovery!❤
I love the honesty here! Dr. Mark...To admit that you really didn't have full confidence in the beginning of your FM journey as a FM doctor and to be a little surprised, even for years when the therapies of changing people's diets actually WORKED, is an an amazingly honest statement!
The medical system is failing us all. We need a proactive preventative approach not just a reactive one. Instead of just putting a Band-Aid on the wound find out what is causing the wound. When people are needing to see up to six doctors for what should be a simple diagnosis and effective treatment you know something is wrong.
I agree, doctors should be paid to keep us well. We should pay them regularly if we are healthy. They shouldn't be paid if we are sick or unable to earn money- work.
Three ophthalmologists and two doctors and not one could figure out i had dermetitis. Even after i went to my primary care doctor and told him i think i have an allergic reaction he dismissed it. Walked myself into an allergist... well i am allergic to neomycin 2nd most common allergy in dermatitis. Seriously? I had to diagnosed myself? Had a cough for two months was told to take a cough drop. Again walk myself to a pulmonologist had bronchitis triggered by allergic reactions. The amount of contaminants and carcinogens are too much for living beings to take and our autoimmune systems are under too much stress. Most doctors are a huge disappointment. Fibromyalgia, Raynauds, Interstitial cystitis are all syndromes .. tell someone their pain isn't real. An women get treated differently too.. We are depressed or hysterical and once we reach 45 we are Perimenopause then Menapouse they have an answer to everything for us but the real one.
Loved loved loved this segment. As an intuitive its so refreshing to hear a DOCTOR come to the conclusion that we have intuition as a god given tool to navigate life not to give that right away to another person who is not in your body!
This is exactly what we need in our healing, Doctors that are in tune with reality. TYSM for having the courage and decency to present this valuable information to the world!!
yep. we truly do need doctors who think shamanic witch doctors are an important part to healing lmao. the alternative health community always makes me laugh.
I’d be thrilled to find an internist that thinks and practices like this ... This is an excellent conversation that should be incorporated into medical training along with good bedside manners.
It's amazing to me how similar my story is to hers with autoimmune issues. I'm not a doctor. Doctors wouldn't listen to me because my labs were "normal". I did research for 3 years on my own and slowly got my life back. I am on Levothyroxine. A low dose to get me in the optimal range rather than just normal range. Finally a doctor was willing to try it but he told me beforehand that he thought it wouldn't work. It worked. It helped with the last leg of getting my entire life back.
@@TheBushRanger. since I posted this I also learned I was extremely low in Ferritin. Once I got that in the normal range and I've been on my levothyroxine and have had the dose increased several times. My life health has gotten dramatically better. Aside from the occasional accidental glutening making me sick for weeks at a time.
This video is one of the best things I've come across on the internet in the last months. You're both the kind of physician I would have loved to become. Thank you so much for sharing your paths and open generous vision of medicine.

This conversation gave me hope for the future of doctors. I lost faith and trust in doctors about 40 years ago, so I stayed healthy by not going near them. For broken bones, they're great, and I valued the fact of them being there. But they aren't the road to health. Naturopaths, herbalists, osteopaths, acupuncurists, nutrition, minerals, vitamins, sea and tissue salts, meditation, colon cleanses, electrical cleaning, trusting your instinct, which doesn't lie, and avoiding pharmaceuticals where possible is the journey I took. This has lead to better understanding my systems, trusting the intelligence of the body, having confidence in the human design and it's ability to heal itself. Incentivised medicine for profit is killing it. What has it got to do with real CARE.
Years ago on a cable TV show regarding what it was like for ER medical personnel, one of the doctors suddenly came down with appendicitis. He said he was shocked at how it felt to be a patient. Almost naked, loss of control over what was going on etc. It was a real eye-opener for him and he gained a real understanding of what it was like to be on the other side.
I’m a second year medical student and have a strong interest in functional medicine. I have felt for years diet and lifestyle can prevent or reverse many of the chronic diseases that sicken millions of people. I myself developed benign fasciculation syndrome last April and still deal with some of the symptoms this day. I was super stressed, very anxious, and had a terrible bout of insomnia during my first year and have jacked up the balance in my body. I know that I will reverse this in time and it won’t be because of a medication. It will be proper nutrition, proper sleep, proper mental health, and proper exercise.
- Meditate at least 10 minutes a day
- Take cold showers
- Weekly shock the system by alternating heat and cold. Example: 10 minutes of sauna, 10 minute of cold by jumping in a swimming pool, alternating between the sauna and pool for 1 hour.
- Find your purpose
- Love and accept others for who they are and the path they are on and the fact that it is different than your path.
- Journal
- Love yourself
- Forgive yourself and forgive all others
- Follow your intuition
These were not mentioned here but I felt the need to put this.

Medicine is like a band aid to help you relieve the pain temporary without fixing the root cause. If you take your time and do your research, you will find the cure from the nature. A terrific example of doctors that are allowing themselves to learn so they can truly become healers.

wow, very impressive :) Did you have only antibodies for Hashimoto or also low t3/t4, and had to take hormones? and now dont?
Did you have to take in special foods after the fasting?
that's amazing! congratulations!

Awesome
FDA is the biggest enemy of traditional medicine . Anything that works that has no answer in Western medicine is not in research

So true!!! I'm in Texas as well and almost cried to see she is no longer here:(.
@@robinhood4640 this is so true. Many doctors feel they should not be questioned because they are the "expert"....

More is less, so true. More organic and whole food, less calories.
@serendipidus1 I agree. There's a famous quote by Sir William Osler, thought to be the "father of medicine" (I talk about his writing in my last video). He said, "Listen to the patient. S/he is telling you the diagnosis."
Bless you, Luann.

What do u do to get better?
I love hearing TWO DOCTORS discussing how the basic medical system does not know it all. Acknowledging the body systems tied together with diet. HUGE! Thank you!
I once dared to tell my specialist that certain food trigger an auto immune response on me by experience. He immediately didn't want to listen to that. But I knew that he wasn't going to listen in the first place, I would never bother again because only if he had the disease himself he would know first hand. Yes, Food with Gluten specially cookies makes me feel terrible right the next day, I don't need a doctor to tell me otherwise.
I find that pretty terrifying but I know what you mean
I would change your comment into the medical system knows almost very little.
True. Conventional medicine has failed in some fields. Examples are the orthopedic and autoimmune diseases. Very expensive yet useless
Go Dr. Li!
Yes, we should learn the language of our body

I decided to take control of my health and saw major improvements and can now say that I absolutely put my autoimmune disease into remission. It propelled me to spread the message as far and wide as I could. I switched careers and made my life mission to help people get over their thyroid/hashimoto's disease!

It’s pretty frightening that medical schools don’t teach preventative medicine and nutrition. I have lost faith in traditional medicine.
Me too!
Conventional medicine is linked to money - Big Pharma. It's only legal in the US to "push" (advertise) drugs.
Big Pharma fund many med schools. They don't even learn basic nutrition at universiry😳
No money in learning that
That is because back in 1924, David rockerfeller, began a purge on all America's natural healing and holistic medicine schools. this birthed the big pharma control of the world. Thankfully, this too, among other things like the private federal reserve bank, the political system, the entire commerce system, the crooked msm, the big tech social media platforms, and many other crooked, big things are all being systematically, painstainstakingly dismantled. I don't know how long this will take, hopefully, not much longer.
Every physician should be required to listen to this before entering their official practice in the medical world.

I really think food deals with everything
Food is medicine, and so is rest, self care, setting boundaries, finding peace and silence within. Thank you for spreading this message and for helping bring awareness to this very real, very debilitating issue that affects so many.

Let food be your medicine! Read up on medicinal mushrooms and first milking colostrum. They help immensely to heal and regenerate the entire body and all it's organs if taken on a daily basis in sufficient, therapeutic amounts. Colostrum is especially important for anyone with a weakened or compromised immune system. Do your best to avoid all forms of corn and corn starch, soy, wheat, vegetable oil (corn, safflower, canola, soybean, sunflower, etc.), red meat/dairy (except for grass fed) and of course refined sugar and junk/fast food. It's all about prevention of disease rather than treating or masking symptoms with modern drugs. Best of luck and health to you.
@@tehnewsguy is sunflower oil bad?
My daughter gave me some frozen colostrum. And frozen colostrum milk.. I'm hoping to whip them up into a Balm, (nipple cream/nappy rash)
Perhaps different to what you are speaking about?
@@ralsharp6013 Yes, it's best to avoid the consumption of this oil or any food with sunflower oil due to the fact it is too high in polyunsaturated omega-6 fat and is highly refined and oxidized which greatly contributes to chronic inflammation plus the formation of damaging free radicals in the body. You are much better off eating a small amount of sunflower seed. Avocado, extra virgin olive & coconut oil are much safer and healthier. Grass-fed ghee/butter is also a healthy choice. As for colostrum, it can be taken either directly into the mouth with some water or mixed in food or beverage. It can also be used externally as a paste applied to the skin to heal a rash or minor cuts or wounds more quickly without scarring.
@@tehnewsguy is chaga mushroom part of what you're talking about?

Goodluck!!!

I only took the bare minimum and ate well, got lots of rest and have remained as stress free as possible and I'm still alive 30 yrs later and I'm not a big toxic, bloated mess.
Wow 😳 I had no idea!

Totally agree: The arrogance/ignorance of so many doctors is just tragic.
If you have an arrogant Dr....find another one. Their industry keeps many bound to protocol and “traditional” thinking. Have to shop around sometimes.
Looking for good doctors, change them and one worst then first one, BayCare push them to have as much patience they can during the day. We live in strange world. Good doctor gone.
After all we are all rushing towards death- so what’s the hurry? Why waste your hard earned money on a ignorant doctors and a shockingly crappy health care system?
@@bhatakthirooh If you do enough research you can often know as much or more than a doctor. In some cases it's not their fault; all doctors have little time. Helps if you can bring some printouts of pertinent articles. Problem is to get them to read them.

Because modern health care doesn’t want you to be cured, so they can make money off all the pills they put us on. It’s fucking horrible
Thankfully I know enough and have seen what all this can do to a person, so I refuse and do everything in my power to find alternative ways to help my chronic pain. It’s really disgusting and disturbing how medicine is practiced in the United States by almost all, not all but most, Doctors.

Zero sugar.

Lose wait???
So true.... we are body, soul, and spirit. Physical, emotional, and spiritual. What affects one, affects the others!
And unforgiveness (of self and others) causes all kinds of diseases, especially cancer.
When you say fasting, what did u fast from?
@@elenadecosta l mean abstaining from all foods for a min of 18 hrs to a whole day done once a week. Always with your doctors approval because fasting is not for everyone.

She can definitely help patients better than doctors who don’t face their problems own medical experiences. That’s tough but beneficial at the end.

And that made them angry, my doctor's office sent me a letter telling me I couldn't see my doctor any more because I had asked them to stop sending me to specialists. The ones I had seen had given me drugs without telling me they planned to, and were treating me with disrespect. There was a kidney doctor who yelled at me for not wanting radioactive iodine. There is one thing which reduces inflammation more than anything else;
Omega-3 oil.

Btw, I know one doesn't ave to know it all to be of help, the human etheric and heart interaction does it work in the invisible and psychological-spiritual. Still, some has to be in place.

Your candid conversation about putting the care back into healthcare post medical school was deep! Thank you both for your perseverance and personal sharing.
I have something similar but constipation
I feel u pain inflammation in my body host IBS C
This was healing just listening. Knowing that sometimes you're not alone

Dr. Li... you made me start crying my eyes out mid-interview... Dr. Hyman... what a gem you are.

Dr. Cynthia Li is so very inspirational! Thank you for interviewing her.
I always live in hope there is an answer just around the corner.
Keep fighting Linda. Your baby boy needs you. 🙏🏼
Xxx such great people
Do you have a health journey update you could share?
It's been a year. Jope you are better, and can share how is your journy doing.
Good job . Not an easy task you have accomplished. I worked in Kenya in thé late 90s and now I’m the USA in health care .
Oh wow I will check out your foundation. I did have some thyroid issues and I healed with apple cider vinegar, mediation, baking soda, exercise and being positive. No one understands thyroid issues in Kenya. Thanks dear for bringing this up.

Breast feeding makes you completely infertile, because prolactin suppresses ovulation. ts used as contraception in many parts of the world ,including Africa.
I have a program that might help you , kindly reply if you interested
How are you feeling 6 months after this post?
This is perhaps the best broadcast on chronic fatigue I have seen. The onset of my own disease is echoed in a lot of the scenarios (except pregnancy!). Certainly, the travel and getting sick in a foreign culture and country on a different diet. The removal of gluten made a radical difference too and taking strain of the thyroid , digestion and adrenals, as well as gradually addressing hormonal imbalance is totally correct.
I’m only 17 minutes into this. But this sounds exactly like my story. So grateful just to hear I’m not the only one.
I was in pain for 5 years, it affected my mental health, positivity, my work. Five doctors dismissed me and one told me I should get counselling as I was imagining the pain. I described the pain as shards of glass, scratching my insides. I now understand what it was thanks to Sally K Norton. It was High Oxalates in my body.
what do you eat now?
High via me ,+254701427633
So how do you fix that.
Clairvoyant but can't figure out what's causing your illness?
I love the honesty here! Dr. Mark...To admit that you really didn't have full confidence in the beginning of your FM journey as a FM doctor and to be a little surprised, even for years when the therapies of changing people's diets actually WORKED, is an an amazingly honest statement!
The medical system is failing us all. We need a proactive preventative approach not just a reactive one. Instead of just putting a Band-Aid on the wound find out what is causing the wound. When people are needing to see up to six doctors for what should be a simple diagnosis and effective treatment you know something is wrong.
They wouldn't make money off well patients. Lol
@@grose2272 Exactly. That is why they have no real interest in healing people.
Its true, we need grandmas wisdom and herbal meds.
She is my definition of a saint when u heal all including the less fortunate

Unfortunately the pharmaceutical industry controls the medical profession, including protocols to treat the diagnosis
It worked. It helped with the last leg of getting my entire life back.
so your solution was to be on levothyroxine? i have low tsh and normal t3t4. with muscles tiring easily. is my problems like yours?
Are you fully recovered?
@@TheBushRanger. since I posted this I also learned I was extremely low in Ferritin. Once I got that in the normal range and I've been on my levothyroxine and have had the dose increased several times. My life health has gotten dramatically better. Aside from the occasional accidental glutening making me sick for weeks at a time.
I’m suffering & have NO hope! Thank you! I’m listening
This video is one of the best things I've come across on the internet in the last months. You're both the kind of physician I would have loved to become. Thank you so much for sharing your paths and open generous vision of medicine.

@helen Paul i was looking for this comment he was driving me insane
My daughter was diagnosed with ITP,she was on tab_Azathioprine since 6 months.Sir this ITP is curable or not
I’m a second year medical student and have a strong interest in functional medicine. I feel those are the cornerstones of remaining or returning to wellness.
How are you doing these days?
You are on the right track ! But food companies sell horrible stuff they call edible and people eat it !
I doing all that but exercise still not better got ebv over active thyroid and my Ra arthritis is flare up I still don't have energy this shit sucks
HiMDZac2024: keep up your wellness protocol as best you can during the rest of med school. You will be sleep deprived during your residency ( not fair) . You will be tempted to grab junk food for quick energy but try to resist. Listen to Dr. Rob Lustig about how fast food is laced with sugar and is addictive. Using junk food to keep going could trigger the start of metabolic syndrome.
This discussion gives me hope for the future of healthcare! It would be great for all doctors to be trained in functional medicine!
