My audio teacher Dave Clark is one of the best engineers who’s ever lived. This video is a great example of that. He did FOH for neurosis for 25 years and is an amazing human being
It really is an incredible mix - the way it breathes while maintaining the heavyness. My only gripe since I first saw this clip a decade and a half ago is that I wish Steve's vocal weren't buried, but that may be Ozzfest's fault?
Right on. The first time I heard Neurosis was in 1999 when Times of Grace came out. It was like hearing 25 years into the future - there was nothing like it at the time.
Neurosis was the best show I have ever been too. Sometime in early 90's in San Antonio. TX @ Cameo Theatre. Cant remember if Noah was on keyboards then.
I come watch this 2 or 3 times a year and that ending....that ultra power bassface? those slides and looks he gives off??? Like or dislike the band aside this is near objectionably the heaviest live performance to ever exist to date I think. Stupid heavy.
This song was my introduction to a life-long love for Neurosis. My friend bought a copy of the OzzFest '96 VHS when we were in highschool and I watched it over and over. First time I heard Biohazard as well.
Rise - shining blank Scars burn way down It parts ways of the Serpent view - cast Stones where to stop Calling you - they all Lower me to the ground Stick him - they all Lower me to the soil Stick him Star - reign down On you You'll starve Bright star in the Dripping sun Writhe on - saints Steal from your actions Step in right on it's Function - stick him Star - reign down On you You all lower me Christ's shine blinds Your world Your belief is scars The will to power Ascension manifest That which is above Is as that which is below Thy will be done Thy kingdom come On earth as it is in heaven So mote it be.
Can’t get much heavier than that! What a Frankenstein of a band! Noah pounding a dark sound & Dave bellowing “ that which is above is as that which is below “ Playing possessed like a bunch of f’n monsters!!
I know Steve was doing backgrounds most of the song...but are we sure his mic was even plugged in? Because he was screaming just as hard as Scott and you can barely hear him
I think it's an intermittent issue. There's bits in the second verse where he's the only one screaming and it comes through, but then the next moment it just cuts.
This whole performance is insane but there is something about when the bassist gets on the mic.......dude literally sounds like hes possessed by a demon

That's an amazing metaphor.... it's just breathing.
Such a pulse.
One of the most powerful bands, sonically, that I can think of.
Sunn O)))
Isis were self-admittedly standing on the shoulders of giants like Neurosis, but I get similar feelings listening to them too
💯
Swans
Limp Bizkit dude
I got this VHS in junior high. Seeing Neurosis for the first time was a revelation.
Same here
Same here. This VHS in 96' Changed 5 teens lives in Reno, Ohio and finding Pagean Terrorism Tactics at Hoffas in Athens,..Acid Bath.
Wow 1996.. They were definitely way ahead of their time
Right on. The first time I heard Neurosis was in 1999 when Times of Grace came out. It was like hearing 25 years into the future - there was nothing like it at the time.
My thoughts exactly!
These guys are in a world of their own. Shame their name doesn't come up often when discussing the greats.
One of the best live performances ever. This is incredible. Thank you so much for uploading it.

Speechless. This is intense. Mindblowing.
25 years later, it's still the same 5 guys and what they craft is still just as pure and intense.
Not anymore... Sadly Scott and the band are done
Yeah they kicked out Scott because he abused his wife and I think the band split
Scott revealed himself to be a piece of shit so it's over
I come watch this 2 or 3 times a year and that ending....that ultra power bassface? those slides and looks he gives off??? Like or dislike the band aside this is near objectionably the heaviest live performance to ever exist to date I think. Stupid heavy.
Neurosus "Locust Start" live at Ozzfest 1996

I remember seeing this when I was 15 on headbangers ball and all these years later found it!
The tour with Panter and Biohazard still sticks with me. it changed the way I see MUSIC and visual presentation.
I was there masquerade Atlanta ‘97
it was Clutch & neurosis in Dallas
I saw that tour in San
Bernardino CA . Epic show!!
Such an incredibly brutal ending 🤘🤘🤘
Sounds like the studio version. Really tight performance.
Can’t get much heavier than that! What a Frankenstein of a band! Noah pounding a dark sound & Dave bellowing “ that which is above is as that which is below “ Playing possessed like a bunch of f’n monsters!!
They were possessed by ALOT of LSD too
Dave is an underrated voice in the band
Amazing performance...
Intense
Legendary.
Holy shit
wow i cant believe they performed this in 1946 this is awesome
Saw them live with Pantera and biohazard in 1997 insane performance
This is fucking beautiful and beastly
Classic 2000s teenager soundtrack
Lol for sure.
It's like that lone gem on a mixtape filled with Gravity Kills, Soulfly and Spanish nu-metal.
The apocalypse. In music form.
so intense
This song will be played at my funeral
Saw them with pantera and bio hazard unbelievable performance
I know Steve was doing backgrounds most of the song...but are we sure his mic was even plugged in? Because he was screaming just as hard as Scott and you can barely hear him

shitty mix, his mic is practically inaudible... sad for such a great performance
beyond
be in these guys back for #ozzfest2017
Yes
This exact breakdown puts a lot of their peers to shame.
Neurosis have no peers.
Screech on the guitar killing it. Son of a bitch this jam makes you wanna put a fist through a fucking head
Best
This whole performance is insane but there is something about when the bassist gets on the mic.......dude literally sounds like hes possessed by a demon
So fucking gud! So powerful!
Saw this tour when they played with Soulfly and Hatebreed -
Damn !!!! is all I can say 😜
There’s an alternate universe where they got the right music video/promo and became Slipknot huge.
For Scott Kelly’s sake maybe it’s better they weren’t
The mainstream wouldnt like them anyway, people only like simple and frankly stupid compositions, not theese masterpieces
Their music is too niche for it to be mainstream
@@therenegadej5764 or maybe he needed to be famous so he wouldn't fyck up like that
Canoeeeeeeeee
Soundtrack for the apocalypse. As in…currently
my couslour i have is friends with the singer
What exactly is the locust star?
A black hole.
I believe it's conceptually a star that comes down to destroy the earth
Good…..God! There is playing aggressive music, then there is channeling aggression.
.
what is the deal with the shitty filter
