      @@harryeggink4023 yes very sad once you think about it. Other racing sports have multiple different teams winning each week but we can always bank on Mercedes, Red Bull, or Ferrari (before 2020) to win. On the bright side, it is so so so sweet when a surprise team/driver wins or gets a podium

      Or someone can buy the engine in its current form and maybe have a run off period with a few of the Honda engineers...
      People do this with whole teams, they don’t usually create a car from scratch. So why not do the same with an engine...? Better than binning the progress that has been made so far.
      Red Bull definitely have the money to take this engine and move it in-house should they wish.
      Also, Mercedes engine guy quit!! And said no to Ferrari... maybe this is already on the cards...?

      @@JakeM218 uh I'm not sure if RB do have the Financials. They need six engines at least and to make a engine it costs as a rough estimate 63 million pounds for one engine in top of the cost for cars and getting new people to build the engines

      Anthony Petro But they’ve also done this with new teams joining! Any new team must now pay all the existing teams about 30 million total. So basically this means it will stay a 20 car grid...

    The Honda guy on the podium crying after winning for the first time with Red Bull after a terrible stint with McLaren was hands down one of the most emotional moments of the entire decade for me. I never felt so happy for someone I don't even know before.

    Honda wins F1 Driver's Championship 30 years after their last F1 Championship with Senna in 1991. If only Soichiro was still alive to see it. Even in modern times, Honda is still a championship winning race brand.

      You know... sound is made at the exit of the gases expeled from the engine, so it doesn't have much to do with the number of the valves the engine has, they've explained it so many times now that I guess a 5 years old child should know about it.

      V6 has beaten every record by 10% of the V12, V10 era. V6 are many times more reliable and consume less fuel. If they bring back V12 or V10 and leave V6, it is possible V10 will not even qualify to star the race, big time gap with V6.

    Honda is probably the most legendary name in motorsports even more than Ford, Ferrari and Porsche. They have competed and compete in almost every racing competition around the globe and they ALWAYS WIN. From GT500, Moto GP to F1 and Lemans(etc etc etc) their history and success is truly mind-blowing. RACING to WIN is in their DNA.

    I was aiming to Become an engineer in any of the F1 teams but seeing this,I think there is no certainty and stablity in f1's future as many of the sponsors and teams will withdraw from this sport ,just like Honda announced today.

      You should still pursue your dream. I doubt f1 will fail in the near future, as long as people watch and buy into it

      As an engineer you'll have work in a different sector in no time if needed. But I doubt being an engineer in F1 is very different from being an engineer at any other place. Just a lot more stress and overtime I think, and only the guys at the top get paid that way above market average pay rate.
      Just go for that engineering degree and see what you actually like to do afterwards. I doubt that F1 is attractive as a job sector when you're not a mad enthusiast for it.

    The first 1-2 win since 1991 is made all the more meaningful when you realise it involved both a Red Bull and a Toro Rosso, both teams that believed in Honda when nobody else did.

    I’m Japanese and I feel really sorry for redbull and verstappen. I think this decision is so very rude. At least they should stay in f1 until 2023 if they haven’t forget drivers and teams presented win for Honda.

    This withdrawal makes me wonder why they came back to F1 in the first place. Honda stated that they needed restructuring, probably for the increasing interest in electric cars, but surely they could have predicted that 5 years ago?
    It annoys me even more because Honda CEO Hachigo said in 2015 that they decided they wouldn’t retire from F1.

    These hybrid engines taking up so much money to develop, makes me question why mercedes wanted to get the regs changed so quickly from the cheap v8s to v6s. Environment or not I think they could have waited 2 to 3 more years.

      Maybe because Mercedes knew/were confident they had a power advantage with the v6 they were developing? Of course then they would want that advantage as soon as possible.

      Merc knew years in advance what the engine formula would be, they demanded it, it's literally why they agreed to come back to F1. Merc has had an engine advantage for a long time because it's built-in to the agreement, their competitors cannot develop their engines to catch up, I don't see what could be more biased than that. I'm sick of F1, there's no replacement for Honda, why would any manufacturer enter F1? No new engines, no new teams...we're witnessing the end of the pinnacle of motorsports and FIA cannot blame the fans, they did it themselves with backroom deals that build dynasties that ruin racing. It's over.

      @@shiko1859 too expensive and too short notice to build their own. Renault will be obliged to give red bull their engine as per the rules, but that causes more problems since RB burned so many bridges with them pre Honda
