I remember hillwalking in the Ochil Hills, Scotland , back in the early nineties when the RAF would do their low level training and I will never forget the thrill of seeing an aircraft coming towards you in silence only to hear the boom followed by the noise of the engines as they disappeared into the distance. I'm not an aircraft enthusiast but that was one of the most impressive things I have ever seen! Wonderfully filmed, great job.
I used to work for a tree felling contractor in the Thirlmere Valley. You can see some of the woods we used to work in on the right of this shot. Several times a day aircraft would buzz past and quite often we would be working above the altitude they were flying. We used to use radios to communicate with the guys on the machines down at the bottom of the valley and it wasn't uncommon to have to wait a couple of minutes for a stream of F15s or Typhoons to scream past, just so you could hear each other on the radio again! Best job I ever had
Wow, would love to see the images you got?!!. Just so happens myself and fellow workers build the F35 Aft fuse and Empanage (all variants, Ctol, Stovl & CV) at Samlesbury BAE systems in Lancashire. I would be so proud to see them if I was stood there!! More than likely I'll of had a hand in building those very aircraft you saw, having worked on F35 for 14 years now.

HOLY S***!!! That has to be one of THE best opening pieces of footage I’ve seen on here in years!!! I hope you had your brown undies on mate! 😂👍🏻 Fantastic!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
It's some years ago now when I was out walking across the top of Win hill in the Peak District. I looked down into the valley and could hardly believe what I was seeing. It was a 4 engined aircraft that was actually flying at a much lower the level that I was at. It was of course the Lancaster bomber which was having a practice run for the Derwent Dam flyover the following week. It seemed to be flying very slowly and surprisingly quietly unlike todays jet's. Unforgettable though.
Holy sh!t! What a great video. May be the most beautiful spotting local I have ever seen. And to get that F-35 to fly DIRECTLY over your skull at such close range is stunning. Thanks for beginning and ending your video with the highlights!
Insanely beautiful. I remember walking in the Lakes with my parents 35 years ago. We were in a pass between peaks and two jets (Tornadoes I think) flew through the same gap. It was funny cos my mum and aunt fell over cos they were so close!
Amazing 😃. Must've been a lot of fun. I saw a few jets here and there when I lived in Carlisle and used to go walking in the Lake District but never anything quite like that!
They fly over Ludlow Shropshire, they use the huge church spire as a marker, impressive. Iv seen 2 Spitfires fly together up Lake Windermere and they banked right in front of me to go down a valley, that equally blew me away. Actually iv seen them quite often while travelling along the M6 in Cumbria.
My partner and I were in the lake District on 18th January and saw these 4 aircraft from our viewpoint on Castle Head overlooking Derwentwater. They made 3 passes and were spectacular. They were followed by a Hercules which made only one pass a few minutes later at pretty low altitude. Possibly on the same day as the weather was the same. Awesome photography, very clear. Would love to see some of your stills 👍.
Awesome photography work. I zoomed in on my screen 2.5x and the jets still remained in the centre of the shot until out of screen. Must be quite the sight seeing them first hand.
I had the pleasure of witnessing a flight session with RAF in this exact location. I worked for a PFE manufacturer which was holding a formal test session for flight clearance. Being there in person was awe inspiring. The agility of these aircraft is so much more impressive in person...and the noise was enough to give you a stiffy! 🤣
What days are best to witness this in your experience? Do they do low level training throughout the week or are there certain days where you’ve got a better chance of catching them doing it?
@1791Tom there is no timetable or set date, it's just a chance of turning up Monday-Friday and wait, last few weeks it's been quite busy, some days you'll get 20 passes then other days you might only get 1 you just never know
A friend had an isolated cottage in mid Wales, with outside loo where you could sit & admire the scenery. Training jets would approach from the valley behind: no laxatives needed 😊
@@stephaniekent8483 Seemingly not. I haven't heard of any instances of bird strikes in all the decades the RAF and others have been low flying training in the Lake District. In recent years though, both drone flying and paragliding has become more prevalent. I imagine paragliding is permitted with the relevant clearances and permissions, but drone and model aircraft flying has been banned by the National trust on land they own or manage for decades.

The SNOW makes it even better!

Is there anyway of keeping track of when they're coming through?
Would sort of defeat the purpose of a stealth fighter if they advertised it lol
No. The general public are not normally made aware of planned training flights.....
Another great video, and a further illustration of why it isn't a good idea to fly drones in the Lake District.
bird strike is far more of a concern lol
