  • Myth busting Lexus IS200t intake on the Dyno. My buddy decided to install an intake in his IS200t just so that the car would make loud turbo noises and I took the opportunity to make a little experiment checking intake temps and getting baseline numbers to then do exactly the same with the intake installed to see if it takes away power like everyone says in the Lexus forums and groups. You'll be surprised with the results.
    Stock baseline numbers: 225whp/259wtq
    Intake numbers: 242whp/251wtq
    Stock IATs at idle: 122°F
    Intake IATs at idle: 120°F
    Stock IATs at 50mph: ~95°F
    Intake IATs at 50mph: ~86°F

    Lol I know Kevin IRL, had no idea we both followed this channel. I’m super impressed by 260 ft lbs of torque, I really did feel like the IS250 had no real place in the modern line up once the 200t was introduced. Knowing it has a bit more wheel torque than a IS 350 only furthers this belief. Very cool content keep it up, I’m just waiting for the day a 3.8 genesis coupe owner try’s to make claims in this comment section😂

    Here's what I know for sure. After 1 year of owning my car, with my driving style, at best I got 21.2 MPG. Once I installed an Injen CAI, my mileage immediately went up to 23.3 and hasn't changed in another year of driving. On top of that, I can tell the difference in power. Add to that a D3 performance tune, and the car is now how it should have been out of the factory.

    Let the debate begin! Lol while I totally appreciate your willingness to perform this experiment, one would definitely be able to discern parts of your graphs that may or may not conflict with your conclusions. What you really need to look at is how the car builds power and torque, vs the results of how the aftermarket intake has shifted the torque curve. In the first graph (stock intake) you can see how the torque has shifted to favor higher rpm as the torque spends more time above the 200 range with stock intake vs the aftermarket. This is where the stock intake has the edge over the aftermarket. Then at around 4500 the stock intakes torque starts to dip where the aftermarket does not. So you’ve got an area of about 1500 rpm where you’ve seen an improvement at top end which is pretty typical of an aftermarket intake. (Top end gain vs sacrificing low end torque) the same can be said for the power curve yet it is even less impressive. It takes almost until 4500 rpm until the power curve goes above 200 and then in later rpm it gains the power vs the stock. But for the stock intake, the power builds almost immediately above 200 (around 2700 rpm) and stays much more consistent throughout. By simply looking at the graphs you can deduce the difference in power band and torque shift, and not very many gains have been had. Also the fuel mixture is another big one. Moving forward, the stock ecu will constantly keep trying to correct for this making any gains in the areas previously discussed even more minimal in order to achieve factory drive ability and gas mileage. Bottom line is, not many gains will ever be had with just an intake without a tune, period.

    • @Danu01c
      @Danu01c  2 года назад +2

      yeah. I think this car with a tune should gain quite a lot of power. There's literally nothing below 3000rpm simply because of programming. It has a terrible delay on the throttle and timing. If you launch it, it just will not give full power until like 3000rpm. If you go WOT, it has almost like a second of delay between the pedal and the engine actually doing anything. Not to mention, I talked with the manager at the dyno and he says that all the ones he's had there have that same behavior that the stock programming shoves in a bunch of fuel at the higher part of the RPM making the power fall off. With a good custom tune this car should be making a lot more power. Not to mention, this car put down stock 225whp when it should've been in the 180-190 range. Just for reference, my IS350 before being tuned put down 260whp and 252wtq on this same dyno.

    • @Danu01c
      @Danu01c  Год назад

      @Sheperad306 it's the ecu. It's a combination of throttle and timing. There's a pretty bad throttle delay and then it won't give full timing until like 3000rpm. The car has been tuned now and it doesn't have that delay.
