Is this little pipe the answer to the running issues on my 2005 R53 Mini Cooper S??

- I've bought a 2005 R53 Mini Cooper S from Copart with the description stating it had a undiagnosed noise from the engine bay. After getting the car, I quickly discovered a very strange noise on lift off and a lack of power. After a bit of research, its pointing towards the timing being out, so I previously changed the timing chain, serviced the supercharger, replaced various gaskets that were leaking and in my last video, I looked to see if the catalytic converter was blocked. But none of these fixed the issue. So, after watching a video on RUclips where someone had a lack of power on a R53 JCW, they finally, after 6 months, fixed the issue. When looking at the comments to their video, a lot of people had fixed various running issues after seeing his video and it was down to this little pipe coming off the intake manifold. Fingers crossed!

I have a Mini Cooper S R56. Dealer sold it to me in Newcastle and I drove the car home to Belfast at no point giving it some wellie. When home I did exactly that and with foot down the Engine management light came on. Reset it and every time foot down the EML came on. Dealer didn't want to know. Apparently it was the Mass air flow sensor from diagnostics but looking at it the date was 2021 so the previous owner must have knwn about this fault before selling it as they had tried to fix it.
I did 2 things. Decarbonised my intake valves using walnut blasting. Plus just made sure all pipes were firmly in. There was one pipe/tube around the back (don't know name) that was loose.
Once reassembled took it for a drive and hey presto drove like the dream it should have been.
So as well as doing all the complicated stuff and spending days looking at videos just remove what you can around the engibe bay and check all fitments.
Fixed my 02 R53 too. Pretty cool.
They all smell hot it's a fast car, I've done a 3000-mile trips in three days, 10 hrs a day in Europe where you can freely drive distance easily, not one problem, 2003 R53 15% reduced pully, colder plugs , and Miltek Sports exhaust.
Thank goodness for your video, I had a vacuum leak on my r53 and couldn't for the life of me figure out where. This video helped me realize where the leak was at. Thank you so much for this video

Some things to check which are probably on your list but anyway: Ignition coil terminals, they are prone to rusting. Bypass valve not operating properly, weak or broken spring etc. Leaking or disconnected vacuum pipes. 2 of them go into the throttle body manifold which is not very obvious and easy to miss. Faulty MAP sensor. Dirty fuel tank filter which I personally haven't done yet but will soon because my MCS JCW is still running a bit rough now and again. By the way, you can buy an extended timing chain tensioner plug which reduces the cold start rattle. Or you can just put a washer between the tensioner and the plug. It does the same job.

Have you tried changing the intank fuel filter? Could be its dirty causing slight fuel starvation??
No I haven’t, I have recently seen a few people say on forums etc about issues regarding fuel filters and pumps, so will have a look in to it! 👍
check the evap system. I've been chasing a shitty idle, and slight rough running for ever. not much i haven't replaced on mine! new evap solenoid is due with me today so will update once its fitted!

@@olliesgarage it very much did not solve my issue if anything its now 10x worse haha! so I'm back to chasing my tail and now changing the TMAP sensor in the inlet mani. been changed once before for a cheap ebay jobbie and i think its pooped itself. all the signs lead to it!

Is it ideal to replace a brand new OEM VACUUM line??
Ideally yes, but just trying to save a bit of money I fitted performance vacuum pipe with the same diameter which will work just as well
had the same thing on my r53. reconnected the vaccum line and it was night and day, from slugish to speedy
I've noticed when you crank you engine it rattles for a second or two upon startup. Mine does the same thing but not everytime. Do you or anyone else on here know what that issue could be? I really appreciate the help in me trying to figure this issue out.
I’m assuming that is a slight timing chain rattle. The chain tensioner is fed with engine oil from the pump on the crank, so it takes a second for it to be at pressure

You can replace the tensioner without a lot of disassembly--I'd do that before you wear your timing components.

Could be oil pump, r needs a good oil service, till it builds pressure at the head.
I was just wondering, have you checked your "Supercharger Bypass Valve"? You can reach in and push the lever to see how it feels, should be smooth & quick. May just need a cleaning. I have 4 of these that I try to maintain, but I never did a video about that valve.
