Dead Island 2 for me is the definition of "just ok". Not terrible, may not be worth your time immediately depending on your preferences. But I still thought it was a fun conversational video to have with you guys. Thanks for dropping by!
Playing through this the last few days really scratches an itch. I can’t remember the last time I finished a 50+ hour AAA game filled with bloat. This is simple, fun, and runs really great. I can see why people don’t want to pay full price, but if you enjoy zombie games and don’t have time to finish huge games, this really does hit the spot
So you like paying full price for a game that was 10 years In development and this is all they came with. only getting a 15 hour experience. No open world, no exploration, no replay value, horrible combat. Only thing the game has is the flesh system 10 years for that. I expected alot more for this long in development and they missed out on making it a open world game with such a good environment. Could done alot more more. And for 70 bucks and a 2 day game. The story line was taken from last of us too lol. I have the cure had been done. I wanted a reason to keep playing it but couldn't find one. A zombie killing game without enough zombies to kill sucks. I just wanted more from it. I'm just saying wait for the sale.
There’s something you aren’t getting, it has not been a steady 10 years of development. the production of this game was clearly plagued with issues and bounced between studios, and (I believe) started from scratch more than once. it’s unique in today’s AAA game landscape and a lot of effort clearly went into the map designs. between the fun setpieces, zombie variety, and gore system, it justifies its retail price
@@Nil2none not that long ago games were $60 and 5-8 hours long. 15 hours is more than enough time for a game thats all about killing zombies. If you want some boring game with more cinematics than gameplay go play any of sonys exclusives.
My first thought was “this game has no right being this addictive.” I think a game being stuck in development for close a decade coming out in this state is nothing short of a miracle. Doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but a good ol’ zombie basher to turn off your brain and rock out to!
I just think that some people, be it at the publisher or the studio, just went "we need to keep it simple and get a solid product out". - Perhaps the preceding studios kept messing it up because they were too ambitious or whatever. But in the end, they just went back to basics and made it work. - That said, I find this game to be "the first game remade" anyway. The first was a mess, even for the time, feeling jank and looking terrible. - It's just a remake without calling it one.
@@Bugga-Ray-Dudley on top of that, tech land added a LOT to the game for free!! Over a year later and still free. Unless you want that event stuff that’s kinda useless.
@@michaelmonstar4276 The 2014 version was open world with vehicles and apparently even extended all the way till San Francisco at one point. Then Deep Silver wanted parkour in the game to compete with dying light and that's where it all went wrong. Yaeger couldn't do it, Sumo Digital messed it up and they finally gave it to Dambusters who made it a back to basics game as they restarted development.
Been in a slump lately and haven't touched anything new, but the first game is my all-time favorite, and this might be what gets me to finally pick something up.
You probably heard the news by now but the studio said that the game sold so well that they are already in talks of a dead island sequel. Along with sorry dlc for 2 so the series is revived
@@JayTrxpGaming if that’s all u want out of ur games then sure, everyone has to decide what they personally value in art & there’s no right or wrong answer
Which is all it was meant to be just like Dead Island it's a fun coop buddy game if anyone was going into this thinking they'd get something like Witcher then I'm sorry but they're not the brightest crayon in the box lol
love the dynamic environment, reminds me of DOS2 or bioshock, which adds to the sandbox aspect of ways to kill the undead and utilizing the environment. its environmental storytelling is as funny as the previous, like stumbling on a porno set in Deadisland 1. The gore is a welcome one.
This game is honestly one of the very few games that I genuinely wanted to succeed simply because of the efforts the devs put into it. They literally revived a game that we all thought had died years ago and still managed to deliver so much more than our expectations, and they deserve the appreciation for that. And I'm so glad to see this positive feedback from the community.
I’d really love to see these devs return for a sequel, they did an amazing job with what they were given and made what I think will be an incredible foundation to build from.
@@BruceWayne-xw6sg u literally ignoring why the game is so fun, and it's not cuz of "flashy graphics". Also u contradict urself, u say its mediocre, then say its atrocious..😅😂
This game is exactly what I wanted. The first game wasn't amazing either, but I had so much fun with my friends. 9 years later this feels like the good old fun we used to have. I'm loving it.
The fact that games are going back to a "sort of" linear approach makes me really happy, I missed just having mindless fun and not having to treat a video game like a full time job. Edit: This and Atomic Heart are two games for me personally were able to recapture the feeling of playing video games in my teens. Not all games need to be Dark Souls, CoD or Assassins Creed
The worst thing is Assasins creed used to be a game like this a much better version of that structure but it was much more linear and direct in the story telling and
I really enjoyed the original Dead Island and Riptide. Played through them several times. They're simple fun, but very entertaining simple fun. Never thought Dead Island 2 would ever come out but I'm finally going to get to play it tomorrow, God (and Amazon delivery driver) willing.
Saving it for when I can play it with some friends personally. Playing the original Dead Island with friends after highschool is still a very fond memory for me. It is exactly what I wanted from another game. I've seen people complain about the story, gameplay etc but that was never the point of it. Most important part is how fun it is to kill zombies with friends.
This was the first game I’ve preordered since Cyberpunk. I was really looking forward to it since it got announced and figured I’d take a chance on the preorder. I’ve only played a couple hours so far but I like the world they’ve built. I’m not very far in yet but from what I’ve seen so far, I’m enjoying it. I’m also one of those people that has to explore everywhere and find every last collectible and the environment has made it fun so far. Now let me finish this video so I can get back to exploring and killing zombies 😂
@@bopo900 I usually don’t unless I’m struggling financially. Want to make sure I’m not wasting my time paying full price. But even then I end up buying it out of boredom lol this game is awesome tho. I can’t stop playing it
I watched the trailer and all kinds of gameplay footage. Still didn’t think it looked that fun. I still got it for me and my son to play together. And for both of us, it is really addicting! Having a blast playing it.
You just gave me the words I needed to describe how I feel about dead island 2, The developers focused on quality first so now they’ve allotted themselves the time they need to focus on quantity. what I mean by that is, they can focus on fleshing out the story, they can focus on the minor bug fixes, and they can focus on future DLC.
As a fan of the first game and riptide, I like many others, was waiting for this game for so long. It’s nice to finally have it here, we have come so far. I’ve been seeing a lot of review bombs on this game and a lot of people talking shit about it. But in my experience it definitely feels like the dead island I knew and loved except a little more tighter of environments but aside from that it’s so far been very enjoyable. The gore is amazingly done, I love the dismemberment, I’ve had quite a few “wow”moments with this game and there hasn’t been a game to do that for me in a long time. From what I’ve heard it is short, but knowing there is an expansion coming is pleasing. If you have friends to play this with it’s great fun! I highly recommend playing this as a co-op rather than solo.
Do stick controls return? You can tell the people saying they don't like it were all just spamming the trigger to attack and not even aiming for dismemberment.
8:45 Really wanted to see Becki the Bride get decapitated Jake! You're killing me here, man. That said, this is def one of those games I'd buy at a discount, maybe $40, but can still see myself having a really good time in. Loved the first one back in the 360, (which I also bought at a steep discount, lol) and love seeing LA in games so... Right up my alley.
Having such great channels like yours Jake, (and Gameranx) to talk about games and inform, I grabbed the deluxe version because I knew what I was getting before heading in! I love a game I can just jump into and get lost in, and I can tell you that I'll be one of those gamers looking into all those nooks and cranny's. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into all the things you do for us!
Something i heard nobody talk about is the price point, at least in some regions. Where i live games are 80 $ + taxe. Newer games are sometimes 90 $. Dead island 2 on the other hand is 98 $ with taxes, it's almost 115 $ wish is completely ridiculous for such a game. Buying elden ring and resident evil 4 for 80 and then dead island 2 is 20 $ more. What were they thinking ?
Not being open world is a big selling point for me these days. Honestley, dying light 2 coming out and an announcing 500 hours of content stopped me buying it. Like I ever have time for that on one game 😂. Give me 20 hours of fun over 100 hours of filler any day!
Hey @Jake Baldino I hope you are taking enough time for yourself to relax. I’m seeing in your eyes that you need a vacation. Make sure you take care of of yourself. Not trying to be pushy just on the last Friday episode you looked really exhausted. Make sure you take care of yourself man. No pressure! 💯
I bought this game day 1 just for the memories, didn't expect much, ended up platinuming the game lol. People really complain about anything, the older dead island games weren't open world either, and the game wasn't in development for 10 years,,, sadly it was announced early and was on hold several times. The game is fun arcady and simple,,,
Open world games only are good if it's full of intrigue mystery and connection to other things. It doesn't matter how big it is if it feels empty. Red dead 2 did the best job at this.
It's not a thinkers game but hey, what's to think about when there's zombies to bash. It's nice to have a break from puzzle solving just to follow a track bashing everything that moves.
What stands out for me with this is & these are my first impressions. the sense of exploration, it's kept simple but detailed. Feels like there are things to find. The zombie killing incorporates an environmental & elemental strategy, I can throw a water canister at a group & electrify the zombies. It's as you said. Not bad.
Disagree, story was horrible though never was going to doubt that just hoped they actually try this time. Most side characters and slayers have pretty bad dialogue. Experienced quite a few glitches with certain bosses not spawning in side quests and zombies just spawning right in front of you and even teleporting. Alot of quest both main and side were the same, dead island 1 had atleast some variety. So its not really "on them" thats just unfair to say. The fact you are easily sold does not mean everyone should be.
I don’t understand people man, like 1 thing I don’t see praised enough, even at all about this game is it’s graphics, the npcs are so realistic as well as its map ESPECIALLY the interiors, they’re hyper realistic like it’s insane.
Just because "dead Island 2" was in development for 9 years, doesn't mean that the released version of the game took 9 years. The game has gone through 3 developers and was mostly restarted after the most recent dev took up the mantle. So did the actual released version take 9 years? No, it didn't
I don't like not being able to shut doors behind me right now and re not getting the open-world feel to it yet but I am still at the beginning of the game other than that it's been amazing
Lol that's funny, I do think it has it's own cool things tho put some soul and love to it that dosent make it "just another zombie game" I'd say even tho I didn't play it yet.
When you compare it to dying light combat and even the original dead island, this one's not cutting it for me. Dying light just did the update the day this came out, and the ways to kill zombies and tools is way better in them. Sad man I waited so long for this 😢.
I've always felt like these games aren't supposed to have deep stories or anything - You just wanna kill zombies in unique and creative ways. That's what I did with Dead Island 1 anyway. The story for the first was confusing and dumb tbh
@@JakeBaldino The only good zombie game with an actual fantastic story is Telltale's The Walking Dead. It's hard to make a good, realistic story when you have undead humans walking around i guess 😂
This totally validates my feelings for this game. I've only been playing for 5 hrs and it's been a good time. People have asked me about it and all I say is "It's nothing groundbreaking , but it's this simple, brainless, and fun zombie killing game."
It is ground breaking in the fact that it has raised the bar. Dying light 2 revamped its animations and gore because of DI2. Im hopeful that the expansions will add more meat to the bone. Pun intended 😄
This game wasn't on my radar at all but it looks like it's actually a good time. Simple and to the zombie killing point. I'm kinda over 25+ hour games at the moment.
Open world being removed is what killed it for me. Part of the of the old Dead Island was looking at the map and knowing the routes to take to avoid the difficult and scary enemies.
I'm a casual, I love games that are easy to play and quit after a half hour or an hour. These days, too many games are way too involved. I get it if your hardcore, but I'm trying to accomplish things in my real life. I can't be crafting potions and forging for berries in virtual forests. LOL. (Clearly not an RPG guy, hahaha).
im really enjoying it. It feels refreshing to play something fun that runs so well. Ive not had a single crash or bug. Ive never had that experience with a newly released game.
Work anywhere from 12-16 hours a day..come home fried...this is literally the perfect game to jump in and out of and escape to for a lil...needed it honestly
I liked the first game...just started playing this and it's...fine. I think the main issue is that 9 years later, it really does feel just like the first game with a new setting and a couple more bells and whistles. It's pretty much exactly as it's been advertised in the last couple months though, so I'm not disappointed.
Summary: The original Dead Island games were somewhere between this game and Dying Light in terms of combat and exploration. This game has good visuals and a good story, and is mostly similar to the old DI games, but if you’re getting it for a continuation of what you enjoyed in the original games, the following are things you may want to consider: (this is my review after approx. 7-8 hours of playtime including main and side quests, and exploring and looting) It’s a good, fun, and addicting game, with a story that pulls you in much like in the original DI games-I overall rate it higher than most games Ive played. I have a couple of issues though: Much like in the original Dead Islands, you progress to get better weapons, skills, and more health. However, it feels like I’m chugging along behind the strength of the zombies as I progress. If you remember in the originals, it seemed a little more fast paced and you could take on a lot more zombies-you weren’t necessarily ‘over powered’-you just felt stronger, faster, and more capable of taking on many zombies. In Dead Island 2, I’ve found that in most encounters with zombies I’m taking way more hits and spending much more time fighting them and worrying about health because I’m slow and bogged down, and my weapons don’t seem good enough to hang in a fight with multiple at once. You can dodge and block, but the zombies have faster attack, and frustratingly often grab you and go into the “spam square” or “spam F” escape sequence. You also have to keep going back to hit the same zombies because they have a lot of health-you have to really prioritize your targets. These slower, more meticulous combat nuances would be fine if you were always fighting only 1-3 zombies at a time, but in a game where you encounter larger hordes and different zombie types with different speeds, every single fight becomes a chore and a big deal. Most fights you will not come out unscathed, and having a limit to medkits you can carry makes it more difficult, even if there are protein bars and energy drinks you can find to use for extra health. The puzzle elements and ways to use your surroundings to kill zombies with fire, electricity and chemicals is a good touch to help with hordes, but there needs balance to where you don’t need to rely on these things for every fight with more than a few zombies. In the original Dead Island games, the regular zombies weren’t a big deal (as long as you were making sure to use weapons good up to your current level). You would only need to step up to strategize like this when fighting stronger zombie types, or a very large horde. Another issue I have is the world. Of course, it looks really good, and it’s great going off to loot a random mansion that’s designed very well. Because of the way the map areas are broken down into much smaller sections, and the way you need to get fuses to even get into most side areas within these small subsections, it doesn’t feel open world like the original games, and all of your exploration feels forced. When playing the original games, I had my missions to do, but completing side quests or going off to explore new areas to find special weapons was more exciting. It doesn’t feel that way in DI2, and the exploration is even less forgiving considering the fights with zombies are a difficult chore like mentioned above. These factors all force you into the story pipeline, rather than feeling you have options to explore, fight zombies and progress your weapons. I remember in Dead Island 1 going off on my own mission to the gazebos on the beach to get champagne from the Russian lady to sell, and making multiple trips to grind money for new weapons and upgrades. I remember driving all over the large map searching lockboxes (that I could lockpick) for better weapons that did a lot of damage and could handle an entire horde in one swing. You just don’t have quite the same element of exploration, feeling of personal choice for missions and grinding, and ‘the world being your playground’.
This is a game that’s one of those fun to look at wow cool and move on games. You know, the ones you’ll watch a video on but never play. I just think what’s the point after beating it. For $30 I might be down for the corny ride but for $60 I want the game to have legs and really give me a lengthy experience.
I met my best friend of almost 9 years now on dead island in the arenas so when I finally heard that this would finally come out I had to get it and yeah it isn't a mind blowing experience but man it got that itch that dead island gave me and I've enjoyed all my time with dead island 2, and surprisingly not many bugs crashes or anything so thumbs up there too
To me its a great game. It doesn't overstay its welcome, it has enough options for characters to do a second playthrough. I did a good bit of sidecontent and not only did i not ever feel bored, i was looking forward to playing more of it. The characters, the combat, the places, none of it is genre defining but it all comes together and becomes a game that is just fun to play. Which is surprisingly rare these days. No BS filler, no mtx gimmicks, just fun gameplay.
I loved Dead Island 1 and riptide, but there were a lot of issues. Like the legendary guns (Defender of the Motherland, Crowd Pleaser & Mcall's 9MM) we're glitched from the game (0% spawn chance) in both the Xbox and Playstation. And then Riptide came out which was cool but was straight up a DLC passed off as a full game/price. And THEN when the Dead Island 1 remaster or GOTY edition came out (I can't remember which) the legendary guns we're once again glitched from the game.
I couldn’t stop playing it yesterday! Played practically all day! The stunning visuals and ways to get creative with taking out zombies is top notch imo as a big zombie game fan!
Great review! Just bought the game today. The price really is irrelevant if you have a good paying job and have the means to play As the bread winner I really don't mind spending the money People who complain about the price don't got a job or crying for their momma's credit card
Thx for the feedback, I'm still on the fence about DI2.. really enjoying this side of the channel, just casual chattin about games, I'm here for it 👍 PS, hope you get your heat fixed brother 🥶
Lovin' it mate, got to play it back in a year I can't remember but it was at an EB Expo in Sydney Australia way before next gen consoles. So much better now. I do spent some time in these sort of games, platinum the others and I'm thinking I'll have to go for platinum in DI2. You are right though, it is absolutely not for every one.
I feel like in my opinion it’s like a call back or a “feeling” of being back in 2014 but has 2023 gameplay idk to me personally I’ve waited so long for this game and remember watching the trailer and watching my favorite youtuber play the first dead island so it got me into the series and like You said I’m fine with none open world games sometimes but I feel like with a game like this the “linear” path it has actually works because I’d in my opinion be burned out by an open world first person zombie game, like state of decay had it but it had its own survival building aspect
I never played the first one or riptide. But am a huge fan of the dying light series. This just looks like dying light without everything that makes dying light fun. Namely the parkour & the day / night cycle
I think they made the right move going more linear level based approach though if it’s just the combat. Dying light needs to be open world to allow players to really feel like they’re free running across the rooftops of a city, but if it was all just combat, the open world was pretty bland & repetitive and that would’ve got boring very quickly
@ApocalypseOfSpoons if they do another one, what I’d really like to see in a dying light 3 would be a progression system based on infection from say damage taken. Where instead of changing the game world and story by aligning with a particular faction, the protagonist gradually transforms over the game to a volatile and they have missions based around that at scripted times where if you’ve taken enough damage to that point you transform at night and have to hunt a faction or main character. Getting the “good” ending would involve taking so little damage throughout the game that you finish it still human with all allies alive. But if you want you can just go full volatile and play the game hunting survivors and clearing camps at night. It would make co-op crazy if one of your team mates just suddenly turned into a volatile and started hunting you. They could use a collectible like antizin to offset the progression so even if you slip up and take a lot of damage, you can still prevent transformation if you have the antizin, and it could tie the night hunter online PVP mode into the main story quite nicely too. The more volatile missions you are forced (or choose) to do, the more survivor camps become volatile nests and make day time exploration harder as a human. And the aim of the game is to either save the city and clear all the volatiles, or wipe out all survivors and cause total infestation
@ApocalypseOfSpoons yeah they could start out with transformations to a viral. The more infected missions you do, the more zombie types you unlock to play as. Goon, crusher, volatile & finally night hunter. I’m sure they could come up with some really cool mission types for each class, ramping up to final missions where you invade main encampments and take out main story NPCs as a night hunter, or stealthing their fortress deactivating UV lamps to allow more volatiles in. So the more you commit to playing as an infected, the more human missions get locked out over time, due to mission givers being eliminated. So to see everything you’d need to play both ways, and like you said, playing a bit of both unlocks certain skills you can use to your advantage in either play style, but to see the best or worst endings you’d have to either stay completely human or fully transform
@ApocalypseOfSpoons doubt I’ll bother with that. But yeah… I’ll prob pick up DI2 at some point but not for 60 quid. Went with a Jedi Survivor pre order instead this month
@ApocalypseOfSpoons DS remake is amazing. Played it on PC. Last game I bought for it before getting a PS5. I was looking at much more than the cost of a PS5 to upgrade my potato to stay futureproofed for any reasonable amount of time. GPU prices have forced me back to console. In hindsight I wish I waited. DS remake would look a lot better on PS5 than on my old 6GB 1060 build I played it on. Still need to wrap up Callisto protocol & Hogwarts legacy and then I’ll just probably remove steam from my pc It’s doubled as a studio PC and games are eating too much drive space anyway. Between the games I’ve bought (TLOU part 1 & 2, GOW Ragnarok, RE4 remake, & Jedi Survivor) plus all the older PS4 & 5 exclusives on premium, I have more than enough shit to play on my PS5 for now
Just wanted to say a quick thank you for the marvel snap recommendation. I'm on holiday away from my console and it's been great to pass a bit of time. Please keep up the great work. Thanks. Ps I still haven't tried out either plague tale game and I'm really excited too when I get the chance.
Got my deluxe edition in the mail yesterday but first I'm planning on playing some backlog and as well both Dead island 1 and Riptide before I get to 2 . I played a little bit of 1 on the PS3 long time ago but as a kid I guess I gave up and moved on to another title and got distracted lol. Got nowhere near beating it. That was like over 10 or 12 years ago I believe. Can't wait to try this out in the next couple of months/weeks. Looks like definitely something I'll love
My first entrance into this series came many years after Dead Island 1 first came out, but I was extremely pleasantly surprised with the $4-5 game I bought on PS Store for PS4 and was expecting to be shovelware but ended up being so much fun and great looking. That said, seeing preview gameplay of this, I g ot perhaps far too excited and was hyped for the release, then played it yesterday, and... was kind of disappointed. I wish the tables were turned this time, and instead of paying $70 for a game I was so excited to play, I was years later, picking this up for $5 and expecting the worst to be pleasantly surprised. But oh well, maybe it'll get more fun.
Great review and I want to say thank you for always going the extra for a little more in depth analysis. I love the originals so I was a little biased, but I didn’t really care for dying light. Just didn’t vibe the same. I’ve been following this through all the travesty. Glad it’s finally here and turned out how it did. I feel like the first games were semi- open world. Especially compared to what open world is in todays games. It’s a breath of fresh air when a studio goes for quality over quantity. Being a father of two little ones, I really cherish a game that respects my time. I still love big open games too, just don’t have as much time as is the case for us older folk 😂 Anyway, popped this in last night, and I’m really loving it so far. The gore system is phenomenal and gives it that next-gen feel. I picked up the collectors edition for this one and it’s a great little set. Nice steelbook and cool goodies. Tons of dlc plus expansion passes for $100. Got it form Best Buy and have a second different steelbook coming from them! With Totk on the horizon and so many other great games coming…. It’s a great time to be a gamer. Sorry so long winded😅
Finished the main story tonight and had done around 7 or 8 side quests I think, think I was around 24 hours. Loved it, loved the first. Got it half price and knew what I was getting myself into. Will wrap up my first run and finish the rest of the side quests and lost and found quests. Then I’ll choose my next character then go again! I forgot man cus it had been so long haha, plus I have a backlog 😂 big up Jake! Late afternoon to the party here
In terms of just killing zombies, this game does kinda reinvent the wheel, the gore system is out of this world, being able to take chunks out of zombies and rip their clothes up ect, it’s crazy, I don’t think I can go back to any other zombie game that doesn’t go to this amount of detail. There’s no other game out there where I can hit a zombie in the stomach and see the organs hanging out, or hit a zombie in the arm and then that arm breaks and is hanging on by the tendons, or hit a zombie in the face and then their eyeball pops out and their jaw breaks in half and starts hanging, it’s great
I think there's nothing wrong with the linear approach to more games these days. I mean, I love open world games but a story like this one, kinda makes sense to keep it linear. I think it's great we have so many open world games and if I want zombies and open world, I'd probably just play dying light. I think there's nothing wrong with offering a tight, linear story. I look at it this way, if I wanna go to the store, I take a path. I don't change paths or hop buildings and yard differently each time I hit the store, I just take my route. Over simplification, sure, but I mean, variety is the spice of life and while I love full bodied, open world experiences, I also think devs shouldn't lose sight of tighter, more linear stories
So you like having less content is what your saying? There's not enough zombies in the game. It looks good cause there's nothing in the world lol. Not every game needs to be open world no but a linear game should have some content and should have a great story. This game doesn't have either. 70 bucks for less is what you want, well you got it
@@Nil2none Hey Nilly I think there's lot of people that are enjoying the game, and it's a shame that it wasn't what you expected But telling people around the comments that they shouldn't like the game is kinda wrong
@Nilly Nil my statement was more on the general statements Jake was making in regards to linear and liking that approach for this one. I haven't played Dead Island 2 yet and it's kinda on a back burner as far as desire to play, but I'm sure I will just cause. My point was simply that I think there should be devs that create experiences based on both styles, not everyone drown us in open worlds only, the same way most of us probably don't want "games as a service" games forever. If the content isn't in this one, then so be it, it'd get a lower rating in my head as well but my opinion still stands in regards to direction of games and their creation. Alien Isolation is a great, tight linear game that does what it set out to do, even with sometimes minimal content. If this one didn't, then so be it. Not all games are prefect, not all hit the nerve or scratch the itch for everyone either.
@Dude 27th bright side, I didn't take any offense here as I haven't played dead island 2 yet anyways but I think my point got missed in shooting down the game from his perspective. I can agree with the point he made about 70 maybe not being worth it for a game that falls short but that's why I didn't rush out for it after waiting all these years and I'll be waiting for a sale likely anyways. I've seen too many games fall short these days to really get too hyped for too many too early.
Awesome 1 once again Jake, and you know, I might actually get this when I can, cos I'm a Zombie fan, and I always regretted not playing the original Dead Island and Riptide, as some of my buddies had nothing but good things to say. I think I literally played the 1st 10 minutes of the original Dead Island at a buddy's place, had to leave, and never played Dead Island again. The game trailers hyped the hell out of the Dead Island games. Anyway, tie you shoes and go to bed with the pizza that's on you... 😂👍👟🛏️🍕
It’s exactly what I expected a dead island game for this generation and that’s what it is. Sometimes reviews go too into detail when clearly it’s a fun game.
Sounds like a good game for a sale.I get what these games are,but I always hope to hear they have a good story, but that is never the case lol.I have to say I am a little burnt out on games like this, but I will say this looks fun if your not.I just played through Dying Light 2 and that kinda left a meh taste in my mouth. It wasn’t bad,but just the same old same old with Zombie killing games.I hope this one brings more to the table then that one did.
Dead Island 2 for me is the definition of "just ok". Not terrible, may not be worth your time immediately depending on your preferences. But I still thought it was a fun conversational video to have with you guys. Thanks for dropping by!
Already got my digital copy it is so worth 70$ game is so hype

The original was the same. You love it, or it's just alright. But for those who hold Dead Island close in their hearts, I'm sure it'll be a banger

@@Nil2none You would of never made it in the ps2 era clearly
@@Nil2none the game was in development hell for 10 years 💀
@@Nil2none not that long ago games were $60 and 5-8 hours long.
Coop is a blast. My buddy and I have set up some hilarious stuff. I have laughed harder playing this game than anything else in awhile.

@@michaelmonstar4276 The 2014 version was open world with vehicles and apparently even extended all the way till San Francisco at one point. Then Deep Silver wanted parkour in the game to compete with dying light and that's where it all went wrong. I'm enjoying Dead Island 2 quite a lot. The game looks good, runs smooth and gives me what I expected a zombie killing fun adventure.

What were they thinking ?
Not being open world is a big selling point for me these days. Honestley, dying light 2 coming out and an announcing 500 hours of content stopped me buying it. Like I ever have time for that on one game 😂. Give me 20 hours of fun over 100 hours of filler any day!

Not bad.
This game is exactly what everyone should have expected. Any expectations above that is on them.
Exactly! It’s been 10 years, times have changed and people are stuck in the past. I love the game. Lol
While I agree it definitively should not be a full 70$. Feel like 40$ would be more reasonable.
Yup. And it works for me! It surpassed mine, though i agree the price was a tad too high.
Fully agreed
Disagree, story was horrible though never was going to doubt that just hoped they actually try this time. Most side characters and slayers have pretty bad dialogue. Experienced quite a few glitches with certain bosses not spawning in side quests and zombies just spawning right in front of you and even teleporting. Alot of quest both main and side were the same, dead island 1 had atleast some variety. So its not really "on them" thats just unfair to say. The fact you are easily sold does not mean everyone should be.
If you play Dead Island and then Dead Island 2,you will see a ton of difference, its day and night, not just from fps aspect its huge

The fact that the game went through 9 years of dev hell and popped out like this is a huge W in of itself.
Just because "dead Island 2" was in development for 9 years, doesn't mean that the released version of the game took 9 years. The game has gone through 3 developers and was mostly restarted after the most recent dev took up the mantle. So did the actual released version take 9 years? No, it didn't
@@EvilSlayer398he didn't say it was developed for 9 years, he said it went through dev hell for 9 years so they obviously know what happened

I've always felt like these games aren't supposed to have deep stories or anything - You just wanna kill zombies in unique and creative ways. That's what I did with Dead Island 1 anyway. The story for the first was confusing and dumb tbh

You sound like you weren't alive for the golden age of gaming. Ps2/xbox/game cube was the golden age
7-8 hours of playtime including main and side quests, and exploring and looting)
It’s a good, fun, and addicting game, with a story that pulls you in much like in the original DI games-I overall rate it higher than most games Ive played. I have a couple of issues though:
Much like in the original Dead Islands, you progress to get better weapons, skills, and more health.
Definitely won't be paying full price for it but I'm excited to just have some dumb fun with it when it goes on sale
I was happy I could remove the healthbar and damage stats since I felt like they were distracting in the trailers.
This is a game that’s one of those fun to look at wow cool and move on games. You know, the ones you’ll watch a video on but never play. I just think what’s the point after beating it. For $30 I might be down for the corny ride but for $60 I want the game to have legs and really give me a lengthy experience.
My hot water heater wasn't working but now it is. Thanks to me and not my landlord!

Still need to wrap up Callisto protocol & Hogwarts legacy and then I’ll just probably remove steam from my pc
It’s doubled as a studio PC and games are eating too much drive space anyway.
The lighting in this game looks really nice
The swings with 2 handed weapons feels like they're brushing very slowly.
I don’t understand this game. It’s basically dying light lite. Zombie action with no parkour. What would make me want to play this?
Finished the main story tonight and had done around 7 or 8 side quests I think, think I was around 24 hours. Loved it, loved the first. Got it half price and knew what I was getting myself into. Will wrap up my first run and finish the rest of the side quests and lost and found quests. Then I’ll choose my next character then go again! I forgot man cus it had been so long haha, plus I have a backlog 😂 big up Jake! Late afternoon to the party here
We need more cozy hangout games That type of feeling when playing Borderlands when it came out. Dead Island 2 scratches that
Waiting on download. Thanks Jake!
In terms of just killing zombies, this game does kinda reinvent the wheel, the gore system is out of this world, being able to take chunks out of zombies and rip their clothes up ect, it’s crazy, I don’t think I can go back to any other zombie game that doesn’t go to this amount of detail. There’s no other game out there where I can hit a zombie in the stomach and see the organs hanging out, or hit a zombie in the arm and then that arm breaks and is hanging on by the tendons, or hit a zombie in the face and then their eyeball pops out and their jaw breaks in half and starts hanging, it’s great
Dead Island 2 manages to be less disappointing than Dying Light 2, which is the real achievement.
I disagree
70 bucks for less is what you want, well you got it
@@Nil2none Hey Nilly I think there's lot of people that are enjoying the game, and it's a shame that it wasn't what you expected
But telling people around the comments that they shouldn't like the game is kinda wrong
I've seen too many games fall short these days to really get too hyped for too many too early.
man, that barbour jacket kicks ass.
I agree 100%, I really miss linear games now that trend is that everything has to be open world 50h game
I guess my only question is, is it only just a melee game or do you by any chance acquire weapons like a gun or rifle?
There are guns in the game as well
I love the dead island series but I cannot justify paying $70 for it when RE4 remake is $60
Awesome 1 once again Jake, and you know, I might actually get this when I can, cos I'm a Zombie fan, and I always regretted not playing the original Dead Island and Riptide, as some of my buddies had nothing but good things to say.
So in other words, a holiday buy lol good if you got some time to kill in between family dinners, events, etc.
