Man that is an awesome thing to say, thank you so much. Thanks for watching.
Mike just as an FYI I place a wet rag over the gear case portion to keep the heat down in the case.
good idea, thanks for watching
Only real men rock a hacksaw like that Michael. Love your content!
Now, I am off to channel my inner Bob Ross 😎
Thank you so much for watching and commenting, much appreciated.
channel it well. thanks again.
Great job on that repair job,I aslo made some brackets for my kayak and used aluminum rods .came out perfect ,just like you said have to get it to the right temp tp flow out .I used map gas ,a little hotter than regular proane gas
Great job I watched Kodiak bass weld up two Skaggs he uses a small steel plate something like the pliers but with a piece of steel same thing basically 👍🤘
I watch Kodi too, thanks for watching
👍👍 That turned out really good . Brazing rods are awesome but ya right practice and heat control are key also learn heat blocking putty helps when patching holes or cracks in Jon boat .. Hey to ya grandkids . 👍👍 Drone 👍👍 As always Sir thanks for the ride along
Awesome comment and thanks for watching.
They make wax in a tube like grease but u use it for aluminum cutting and grinding. Also regular candle wax works too. Keeps from clogging up the cut off wheel
Thanks for the tip!
Michael the shark fin master! Great job Mike, keep up the great work! Take care super cold weather coming your way! Have a great Christmas and New Year!
It's terribly cold here. Keep working till the water gets soft again and I can test out some of these outboards
Hi Mike, I think I have said this before that I fixed my 4hp Yamaha prop that had a chunk missing on it. I was worried that it would affect it when I was done for vibration but works great in the water. maybe not for a large motor prop which I would suggest putting into a steel prop form tool. The alumiweld rods will not stick to steel. Fyi
Nope, not designed for steel, nice job on the old prop, thanks for watching
I was watching Cody Bass he took a old blastic trim tab and sandwitched the skeg between two pices of the plastic and ground it to shape ran a few nuts and bolts through the meaty bart that was left on the skkeg. It has more flex for the next rock and bends rather then cracks off again. Didn;t look bad eather
I saw the same one. Thanks for watching
Nice job Michael....if you can do it, I can do it!!!!!
Yes you can, thanks for watching
Project Farm did a great video on aluminum welding rods. I personally would rather spend more money on good rods to make the job as easy as possible. I check my Skegs after every boating trip and often think it's not a good day of boating until after I run my hand down the skeg. I know OCD!
Sounds good, thanks for watching and keep checking on the skeg.
Do you make house calls lol. I have a 67 that the guy took apart to replace water pump and then couldn't get it to restart. After I bought it I think I fixed the gear rod,but not sure. Can you do a video on how to reinstall that? Also how does the carburetor float go back in?
It’s called fabrication. Good stuff. Love channel lock idea. Are you using a regular propane torch? Aluminum brazing rod?
map gas, and aluminum brazing rod.
I have a Yamaha 9.9 that the skeg is broken off much closer to the gearbox. Will the heat affect the seals in the gearbox if I attempt this repair? There's about 3\4" left of the original skeg... Great video!
Yes the heat will burn out your seals. Disassemble before attempting that repair. Thanks for watching
Here I thought you were going to MIG weld. I've burned myself so many times, I've given up and wear welding gloves even for grinding. You'd think we'd learn.🤣🤣
I have a mig repair coming up. Not everyone has a mig so I try to show some other economical solutions when I can. Thanks for watching. Feeling is returning to my fingertips days later.
Shouldnt the skeg have a flat area and not into a point? Never seen one into a point and im working on a 1960s 65hp mercury and its flat. Just asking?
Personal preference really, If you are taking it on and off and setting on the ground then a flat bottom is probably best. Mine is going to be bolted to back of the boat and it's only enemy is shallow water. Thanks for watching
I haven't had much kuck using those sodering sticks Mite be better usinf thicker meteral like the skeg but I have tryed to fill holes in a aluminum boat . Hasn't gone to good for me and on a crack it seams to only make the crack run away from were it was even useing map gas Yellow gas container. Getting the temp just write is harder then it looks. it sure isn't like brazing for me.
Holes on boats doe require a special technic I have found. Thanks for watching
What brazing sticks do you use? I tried on my old Mercruiser and just could not get things to temperature.
It looks like that low temp aluminum welding rod
@@onazram1 honestly can't remember if I was using propane instead of mapp gas. Probably what my issue was.
just low temp aluminum solder. Thanks for watching.
Nice work on the sag. When you the sag on the evinrude are you going trace the one from the other 50 hp to get the shape you are going need?
Thanks
Tim
that video coming up very soon. The approach and it may make you cringe but it worked. Thanks for watching.
What gas are you using
MAP, in the yellow bottle typically. Thanks for watching
Natural
I say paint it a red , white and blue scheme. You have Old Glory flying in the intro . Put her on your motor
not a bad idea at all. thanks for watching
